1962 June 1,Pat Newcomb arrived at the studio in the afternoon with some Dom Perignon, Marilyn's favourite champagne. Dean Martin had brought some champagne too. Evelyn Moriarty, Marilyn's stand-in (,), had collected 50$ for the cake, bought at Humphrey's Bakery at the Hollywood Farmer's Market ; finally, one of the executive of the studio suggested to pay it and Evelyn Moriarty paid off the money she had collected. The whole crew was there to celebrate her birthday (),including Henry Weinstein and Eunice Murray ,Photographer George Barris was also there . George Cukor gave to her some Mexican figurines (a swan and a bull) (,). Marilyn was delighted of this impromptu party, which ended at around 6.30 PM. Paula (Strasberg) was among the most loyal and helpful. She took the rap for Marilyn's lateness, but she gave Marilyn a great deal. And she never tried to own Marilyn, or to cut others out of Marilyn's life. -Pat Newcomb Norma Jeane would be 87years today. Fate is the Hunter 1964 Mystery Thriller Stars: Glenn Ford, Nancy Kwan, Rod Taylor Director: Ralph Nelson The New York TImes Review Published: December 10, 1964 "FATE Is the Hunter," which opened at the Palace and other theaters yesterday, is a film you may be sure will never be shown as an in-flight diversion in commercial planes. And it might be better for airline travelers if they never see it anyplace. For not only is it about the crash of a commercial plane, in which 53 are killed, but it also makes airplane travel look more chancey than taking a rocket into space. What is the cause of the accident that is shown at the start of the film? That is what airline vice president Glenn Ford is determined to find. Had the pilot, Rod Taylor, been drinking, as reporters have heard and suspect? Mr. Ford is convinced his wartime buddy is blameless in this respect. So, for the rest of the picture, he diligently snoops and pries, interviews various people, such as the pilot's fiancé, Nancy Kwan (who can come up with nothing more revealing of the pilot than the interests she shared with him in metaphysics and tropical fish), and two other wartime buddies, Mark Stevens and Wally Cox. Finally, in a test flight simulating the take-off of the ill-fated plane. Mr. Ford makes the dismal discovery (which is heavily hinted at early) that the accident was caused by a cup of coffee spilling over an instrument box and short-circuiting some critical wiring. FATE IS THE HUNTER, screenplay by Harold Medford, based on the book by Ernest K. Gann; directed by Ralph Nelson and produced by Aaron Rosenberg; presented by 20th Century-Fox. At the Palace Theater, Broadway & 47th Street, and other local theaters. Running time: 106 minutes. McBane . . . . . Glenn Ford Sally Fraser . . . . . Nancy Kwan Capt. Jack Savage . . . . . Austin American Statesman 2013-06-01Wallace Maynard Cox (December 6, 1924 – February 15, 1973) was an American comedian and actor, particularly associated with the early years of television in the United States. He appeared in the U.S. television series Mr. Peepers (1952–1955), plus several other popular shows, and as a character actor in over 20 films. Wally Cox was the voice of the popular animated cartoon character Underdog. Although often cast as a meek milquetoast, he was actually strong and athletic. He married three times and was a close friend of Marlon Brando.
Cox was born in Detroit, Michigan. When he was 10, he moved with his divorced mother, mystery author Eleanor Atkinson, and a younger sister to Evanston, Illinois, where he became close friends with a neighborhood child, Marlon Brando. Cox's family moved frequently, eventually to Chicago, Illinois, then New York City, then back to Detroit, where he graduated from Denby High School.
During World War II Cox and his family returned to New York City, where he attended City College of New York. He next spent four months in the Army, and on his discharge attended New York University. He supported his invalid mother and sister by making and selling jewelry in a small shop and at parties, where he started doing comedy monologues. These would lead to regular performances at nightclubs, such as the Village Vanguard, beginning in December 1948. He became the roommate of Marlon Brando, who encouraged him to study acting with Stella Adler. Cox and Brando remained close friends for the rest of Cox's life, and Brando appeared unannounced at Cox's wake. Brando is also reported to have kept Cox's ashes in his bedroom and conversed with them nightly.
Karen Valentine (born May 25, 1947, Sebastopol, California) is an American actress best known for her role as the idealistic schoolteacher "Alice Johnson" in the television series Room 222.
Valentine grew up in Northern California and won a spot representing California at the Miss Teenage America pageant where she was awarded the Talent Award. Valentine was Miss Sonoma County and Top 10 at Miss California, state finals to Miss America. When Ed Sullivan saw her act (where she would comically dance in a flamboyant costume while lip-syncing to Eydie Gormé's "Blame it on the Bossa Nova"), he was quoted as saying, "I want that girl on my show."[citation needed]
In 1969, Valentine won her breakthrough role as a new teacher on the ABC television series Room 222, with Lloyd Haynes and Michael Constantine. She was discovered by Gene Reynolds, the director of Room 222, who saw her lip syncing in rehearsal and saw that she was funny. She was nominated twice for an Emmy and once for a Golden Globe, winning an Emmy in 1970 for Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role.
Norma Jeane Mortensen Baker (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962), professionally recognized as Marilyn Monroe, was an American actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol, starring in a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the 1950s and early 1960s.
After spending much of her childhood in foster homes, Monroe began a career as a model, which led to a film contract in 1946 with Twentieth Century-Fox. Her early film appearances were minor, but her performances in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve (both 1950) drew attention to her. By 1953, Monroe had progressed to a leading role in Niagara (1953), a melodramatic film noir that dwelt on her seductiveness. Her "dumb blonde" persona was used to comic effect in subsequent films such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and The Seven Year Itch (1955). Limited by typecasting, Monroe studied at the Actors Studio to broaden her range. Her dramatic performance in Bus Stop (1956) was hailed by critics and garnered a Golden Globe nomination. Her production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, released The Prince and the Showgirl (1957), for which she received a BAFTA Award nomination and won a David di Donatello award. She received a Golden Globe Award for her performance in Some Like It Hot (1959). Monroe's last completed film was The Misfits, co-starring Clark Gable with screenplay by her then-husband, Arthur Miller.
