Rand Paul Tears into CNBC Anchor for ‘Misleading’ Questions on Vaccines, Taxes: ‘Try a Little Objectivity’ (Mediaite) Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) showed his impassioned side Monday afternoon during a heated interview with CNBC anchor Kelly Evans on forced vaccinations, a bipartisan corporate tax holiday bill, and accusations of “conflict of interest.” From the beginning of the interview, it became clear Evans was ready to pounce on the senator for a variety of issues. She began with his Monday morning remarks to Laura Ingraham that most vaccines should be voluntary. “Did you really just say [that]?” an incredulous Evans asked. “I guess being for freedom would be really unusual,” the senator replied. “I guess I don’t understand the point of why that would be controversial?” When Evans insisted it was a problematic view to hold, given the recent instances of measles at Disney theme parks, Paul explained that he is not opposed to vaccines themselves, but to the idea that government must force everyone to take them. (An important distinction that gets lost in the conversation about actual anti-vaccine “truthers.”) “I’m a big fan,” Paul said of vaccinations, “but for most of our history they have been voluntary.” Pushed further, he added this money line that ought to get a rise out of many civil libertarians: I think they’re a good thing but I think the parent should have some input. The state doesn’t own your children; parents own the children and it is an issue of freedom. Evans then pivoted to Paul’s proposed corporate tax holiday (co-sponsored by liberal Sen. Barbara Boxer), and that discussion was somehow tense as well. The anchor pushed back on his proposal by suggesting “most of the research indicates that these [holidays] actually cost more money over the long term than they save.” Sen. Paul was not pleased. “Your premise and your question is mistaken,” he said. “Most of the research doesn’t indicate that.” He pointed to a study from a former Clinton official that suggests the 2005 tax holiday was a net gain. But then the pair got into some tough crosstalk with the senator shushing his host and asking her to “calm down a bit here” as she continued to prod him on his proposal. And the tension didn’t end there. Evans confronted the senator about a possible “conflict of interest” in a fight he had with the American Board of Ophthalmology over re-certification. “Once again you’re mischaracterizing and confusing the whole situation,” the senator tore into Evans. “You have taken an interview and made an interview into something where we got no useful information because you were argumentative and you started out with so many presuppositions that were incorrect.” He explained that his fight with the board had nothing to do with helping family and friends avoid re-testing, but rather a struggle over competition and fairness in the certification process. And when Evans closed the interview by asking Paul the requisite “Are you running in 2016?” question, he handed her another scolding: We’re thinking about it and we’re looking around the United States and seeing if the message resonates. Part of the problem is that you end up having interviews like this where the interview is so slanted and full of distortions that you don’t get useful information. I think this is what’s bad about TV sometimes so, frankly, I think, if we do this again, you need to try to start out with a little more objectivity going into the interview. (Politico) Sen. Rand Paul reproached CNBC anchor Kelly Evans on Monday afternoon for what he said was a “slanted” interview that got no “useful information." Evans asked Paul about his comments on how vaccines should be a choice and about a Washington Post article that reported Paul appointed his own family members to a medical board he started. “You have taken an interview and you’ve made an interview into something where we got no useful information because you were argumentative and you started out with so many preoppositions [sic] that were incorrect,” Paul said after Evans asked whether Paul had a response to the Washington Post piece. video footage caught on tape cellphone camera surveillance raw dash cam air live on tv share comment like

Highlights from Rand Paul's Testy Interview on CNBC (February 2, 2015)
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) went after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and touted messages of liberty to an enthusiastic crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday. As lovers of liberty, Paul said, conservatives must unite against “imprisonment without trial” and “torture of innocents.” On healthcare, Paul blasted Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts for his vote to uphold the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, and went after President Barack Obama for his “if you like it, you can keep it” healthcare promise. Paul said he wants to “reverse the course of Obamacare and repeal every last bit of it.” On the NSA, Paul fervently defended civil liberties. “I say that your phone records are yours,” Paul said, adding it’s “none of their [the NSA's] damn business.” He then extensively criticized his potential 2016 presidential rival, Hillary Clinton — but took a slightly different route than that of former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in her Thursday CPAC speech. As a result of “Hillary’s war in Libya,” Paul said, Libya is less stable and radical jihadists are running rampant there. Her “dereliction of duty” in Benghazi, he added, should disqualify her from any higher office: “It’s time for Hillary Clinton to permanently retire,” he said. Paul then went after President Obama for his decision to arm the Syrian rebels, which he says created ISIS. “I warned that these arms might end up in the hands of jihadists,” he said, adding that prediction ultimately came true. Aside from criticizing potential political opponents, Paul advocated a strong national defense that is “unencumbered by nation building.” He also railed against the billions of dollars in foreign aid that the U.S. gives out each year: “It angers me to see mobs burning our flag and chanting death to America in countries that receive our foreign aid. I say it must end. I say not one penny more to these haters of America.” As a result of his trips to places like Ferguson, Detroit, Atlanta, and Chicago, Paul declared that “liberal policies have failed our inner cities.” In anticipation of a potential 2016 presidential run, he said he will soon “propose the largest tax cut in American history” that will also aim to cut spending and balance the budget in five years. He also lamented the current dysfunction of Congress: “Even when we agree on things, we can’t get anything done.” Midway through the speech, repeated cheers of “President Paul” er

Senator Rand Paul announced his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. He made the announcement from the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, KY. Watch the complete Senator Rand Paul Presidential Campaign Announcement event here: http://cs.pn/1CQBsg7
FULL VIDEO: Rand Paul Announces 2016 Presidential Run. 'I am running for president'. Senator Rand Paul Presidential Campaign Announcement Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) made an announcement about bid for the presidency in 2016. Rand Paul jabs D.C. 'machine' in campaign launch (USA Today) WASHINGTON — Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul kicked off his presidential campaign today, vowing to buck the "Washington machine" and expand the Republican Party to include young people and minorities. Paul put both the GOP and the Democratic Party on notice that he'll stick to his conservative principles with a message rooted in liberty, the Constitution and limited government. "Too often when Republicans have won, we've squandered our victory by becoming part of the Washington machine. That's not who I am," Paul said. "If we nominate a candidate who is simply Democrat-lite, what's the point? Why bother? We need to boldly proclaim our vision for America." The first-term senator officially declared his candidacy hours before a rally in Louisville, Ky., with a brief message on his new campaign website. "I am running for president to return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government," he said. A diverse group of people — including black pastors, a college student and Hispanic legislator — took part in Paul's rally and testified to his outreach and approach as a senator. The speakers helped highlight Paul's vow to be a "different kind of Republican." Afterwards, the candidate who mixes with Silicon Valley titans and recently opened a tech office in Texas planned to take questions via Facebook. Paul, 52, joined Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in a race that has attracted the interest of more than a dozen potential GOP candidates. He is also simultaneously running for re-election in Kentucky to his Senate seat. "His entry into the race will no doubt raise the bar of competition, help make us all stronger, and ultimately ensure that the GOP nominee is equipped to beat Hillary Clinton and to take back the White House for Republicans in 2016," Cruz said in a statement welcoming Paul into the race. Still to come in the presidential sweepstakes are former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who are leading early public opinion polls. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is expected to announce his bid on April 13. The GOP primary could pit Paul, Cruz and Rubio against each other as they vie for the votes of Tea Party supporters who backed them for the Senate. But the competition is viewed as healthy for Republicans eager to take back the White House. "It's a positive thing that so many potential candidates do support our values," said Jenny Beth Martin, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots. "It shows our values are once again front and center in the political discussion in America." Since his Senate election in 2010, Paul has positioned himself to be a more relatable — and electable — politician than his father, Ron. The elder Paul, a former Texas congressman, had legions of mostly young followers in the 2008 and 2012 elections but he was unable to translate their passion into enough presidential votes. Ron and Carol Paul attended their son's kickoff, but the father is not expected to take a large role in the campaign. Like his father, Rand Paul is an iconoclast in a Republican Party. He hews the conservative line with attacks on excessive spending and big government while crusading against government spying. Paul often says the GOP brand "sucks" and has spoken at historically black colleges to broaden the GOP's base. "I'm a big believer that you should stand on principle and be true to your principles, but I also think we should take those principles and try to bring in new people with them," Paul said recently on Fox News. That kind of message, however, may work better in a general election than in the Iowa caucuses or early primary states. Religious conservatives play an outsize role in Iowa, more so than establishment Republicans and fiscal conservatives. Steve Deace, a syndicated radio host in Iowa who is influential with conservatives, said Paul needs to demonstrate appeal with evangelicals and gain ground on Walker, who is leading early Iowa polls. "It's not just about who says Jesus the most and it's not about a cult of personality," Deace said about winning the Iowa caucuses. "We need people who are willing to fight. I don't think that environment is going to change. Candidates will have to change to that environment." video footage caught on tape cellphone camera surveillance raw dash cam air live on tv share comment like most popular

Rand Paul presidential announcement
Rand Paul (R-KY) took to the floor of the Senate Thursday to emphatically make his case in opposition to the U.S. war against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. In the process, he accused Democrats of “hypocrisy” for taking a loud anti-war stance under President George W. Bush but supporting war under President Barack Obama. Paul stressed that he does see ISIS as a “problem” and a “threat,” but said he believes Congress should be taking a more “serious” approach to the debate over going to war. “When we go to war, it’s the most important vote that any senator will ever take,” he said. “When there were Republicans in office, there were loud voices on the other side,” he continued. “I see an empty chamber. There will be no voices against war because this is a Democrat president’s war.” “The hypocrisy of that should resound in this nearly empty chamber,” Paul declared, asking, “Where are the voices on the other side?” He accused Democrats of accepting the fight against ISIS for the next few months, seeing “how the election goes” in November, and only then coming back to maybe talk about the authorization of force. Senator Paul is expected to vote no on this afternoon’s bill that would allow the American military to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels in the fight against ISIS. Watch video below, via C-SPAN2:

This week on Uncommon Knowledge, Senator Rand Paul discusses his political ideas, ideals, and philosophies, noting that "we're all born with an instinct towards individualism." He gives his insights into dealing with immigration, unemployment, foreign policy, national security, taxes, personal responsibility, and many other issues. Senator Paul's unique perspective and solutions could be a starting point for getting the United States back on track.
What is the truth behind Ayn Rand, writer of such blockbuster novels as 'The Fountainhead,' 'Atlas Shrugged,' 'Anthem' and 'We The Living'? Rand - and her philosophy Objectivism - have been enormously influential to public figures as diverse as Paul Ryan, Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Rush drummer Neil Peart, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, Hunter S. Thompson, Murray Rothbard, John Stossel, Penn Jillette and many others. Some of her adherents - such as former Federal Reserve Chairman Allan Greenspan - have been criticized for enacting Rand's 'Virtue of Selfishness.' Was she an advocate of egoism and 'me-first' selfishness? Why did Rand hate altruism - not to mention Immanual Kant? What was her ideal society? Is her vision achievable? Should we even try? BBC News 2015-03-24Paul Rand (born Peretz Rosenbaum, (August 15, 1914 — November 26, 1996) was an American graphic designer, best known for his corporate logo designs, including the logos for IBM, UPS, Enron, Westinghouse, ABC, and Steve Jobs’ NeXT. He was one of the originators of the Swiss Style of graphic design.
Rand was educated at the Pratt Institute (1929–1932), Parsons The New School for Design (1932–33), and the Art Students League (1933–1934). From 1956 to 1969, and beginning again in 1974, Rand taught design at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Rand was inducted into the New York Art Directors Club Hall of Fame in 1972. Rand died of cancer in 1996 in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is buried in Beth El Cemetery.
Paul Rand was born on August 15, 1914 in Brooklyn, New York. He embraced design at a very young age, painting signs for his father’s grocery store as well as for school events at P.S. 109. Rand’s father did not believe art could provide his son with a sufficient livelihood, and so he required Paul to attend Manhattan’s Harren High School while taking night classes at the Pratt Institute, Rand was largely “self-taught as a designer, learning about the works of Cassandre and Moholy-Nagy from European magazines such as [Gebrauchsgraphik].”
Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs (/ˈdʒɒbz/; February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an American businessman, designer and inventor. He is best known as the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Through Apple, he was widely recognized as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution and for his influential career in the computer and consumer electronics fields. Jobs also co-founded and served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, when Disney acquired Pixar.
In the late 1970s, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak engineered one of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers, the Apple II series. Jobs was among the first to see the commercial potential of Xerox PARC's mouse-driven graphical user interface, which led to the creation of the Apple Lisa and, one year later, the Macintosh. During this period he also led efforts that would begin the desktop publishing revolution, notably through the introduction of the LaserWriter and the associated PageMaker software.
Randal Howard "Rand" Paul (born January 7, 1963) is the junior United States Senator for Kentucky. He is a member of the Republican Party. A member of the Tea Party movement, he describes himself as a "constitutional conservative" and a libertarian. He is the son of Republican Congressman and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas and had never previously held political office. Paul first received national attention in 2008 when making political speeches on behalf of his father. Rand Paul is the first United States Senator in history to serve alongside a parent in the United States House of Representatives.
A graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine, Paul has been a practicing ophthalmologist in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1993, and established his own clinic in December 2007. In 1994, he founded Kentucky Taxpayers United, of which he is still the chairman.
In 2010, Paul ran as the Republican candidate for the United States Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky and defeated Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway. As a supporter of the Tea Party movement, Paul has been vocal in advocating for term limits, a balanced budget amendment, and the Read the Bills Act, in addition to the widespread reduction of federal spending and taxation. He has gained prominence for his independent positions on many political issues, often clashing with both Republicans and Democrats.
