The year is 1895. Steam-powered ships fly through the air. Clockwork robots have replaced servants. And a grisly murder has taken place in the dark night of New York City. Called to the scene of the ritualistic murder of a young woman, newly appointed police commissioner Teddy Roosevelt discovers Detective Wayne and his police officers power usurped by two special investigators appointed by the White House: Occultist Edgar Allan Poe, a clockwork automaton housing the soul of the literary legend, and Mrs. Emma Entwistle, a dangerous assassin with a unique connection to the otherworld. When they illicit information from the demon Neshrew, a much darker and more dangerous plot of world domination is uncovered.

This movie is set in the mid 1800s and involves poet Edgar Allan Poe. A serial killer is on the loose and murdering people using Poe's descriptions from his published stories and poems. Poe teams up with Detective Fields, a Baltimore policeman to try and catch the killer by using his knowledge of the descriptions. Even though the stories are fictional, they start to become reality and the killer is a step ahead of them. Then it takes on a personal note as Poe's lover becomes a target. Will they stop the killer in time?

Edgar Allan Poe nació en Boston, Estados Unidos, el 19 de enero de 1809. Sus padres murieron cuando era niño y fue recogido por un matrimonio adinerado de Richmond, Virginia, aunque nunca fue adoptado oficialmente. Pasó un curso académico en la Universidad de Virginia y posteriormente se enroló en el ejército, aunque por un periodo muy breve. Se conviritó en un escritor, poeta, crítico y periodista romántico, y es reconocido como uno de los maestros universales del relato corto, del cual fue uno de los primeros representantes en Estados Unidos. Fue renovador de la novela gótica, recordado especialmente por sus cuentos de terror. A Edgar Allan Poe también se le considera como el inventor del relato detectivesco y contribuyó con varias obras al género emergente de la ciencia-ficción. Entre las mejores obras del escritor estadounidense destacan El Cuervo, Annabel Lee, El pozo y el péndulo, El barril de amontillado, entre otras. Edgar Allan Poe murió el 7 de octubre de 1849, a los 40 años de edad. Aunque se especuló con que la causa de la muerte tuvo que ver con el alcohol y un fallo cardíaco, nunca se esclarecieron los verdaderos motivos.

Ein Bauer aus Rappersdorf war sehr in Not, weil er nicht wußte, wie er das überhandnehmende Regenwasser von seinen Feldern ableiten solle. Da erschien der Teufel vor ihm und sprach: »Gib mir sieben Arbeiter zur Hilfe, so will ich dir noch in dieser Nacht einen Graben machen, der alles Wasser von deinen Äckern abzieht und fertig sein soll, eh der Morgen graut.« Der Bauer willigte ein und überlieferte dem Teufel die Arbeiter mit ihren Werkzeugen. Als er am folgenden Tag hinausging, die Arbeit zu besichtigen, war zwar der große breite Graben vollendet, aber die Arbeitsleute waren verschwunden, bis man die zerrissenen Glieder dieser Unglücklichen auf den Feldern ringsumher zerstreut fand.

Nigeria: More women and children freed from Boko Haram

Nigeria's military says it has rescued at least 160 more women and children who had been abducted by Boko Haram and were being held in the Sambisa Forest, considered to be the armed group's last stronghold. Colonel Sani Usman, an army spokesperson, said in a statement on Thursday that those rescued include around "60 women of various ages and around 100 children" ...
