Recently, Judge Olu Stevens unabashedly and overtly made part of a case proceeding’s records that he “took offense” to the prosecution’s statements– those statements being that the defendant, Gregory Wallace, who was convicted of armed robbery of a household, had instilled a debilitating fear of black people in the victim’s 3 year old daughter. The 3 year-old now feared for her life whenever near black people– even when near black friends at school– and because of this, the defendant ought serve no less than the maximum of 20 years in prison. Judge Olu made it known that he took offense to those statements, and sentenced Wallace to 5 years probation which is the long running precedent for first time offenders of similar crimes.
