(10 Jan 2017) The brother of one of the victims of a church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, said the gunman was in "God's hands".
Dylann Roof was sentenced to death on Tuesday for the shooting of nine black church members last year.
Mervin Graham, whose sister Cynthia Hurd died in the racially-motivated attack, said he couldn't see why one life should be saved when nine lives were taken.

Got Talent
Got Talent is a talent show television format conceived and owned by Simon Cowell's SYCOtv company. A pilot was made in the United Kingdom in 2005, hosted by Paul O'Grady, but after O'Grady's split with ITV, the series was postponed, resulting in America's Got Talent – the first full series of the format.
It has spawned spin-offs in over 58 countries (as of April 2014), in what is now referred to as the Got Talent format, similar to that described by FremantleMedia of the Idol and The X Factor formats. In April 2014, the format was named the world's most successful reality TV format ever by the Guinness World Records.
History
Got Talent was an invention by The X Factor creator Simon Cowell, with comedian and talk show host Paul O'Grady producing a pilot for ITV in 2005 under the provisional title Paul O'Grady's Got Talent. O'Grady left the network after disputes with ITV, resulting in Cowell moving the concept to the United States while he and ITV searched for a new show host.
Due to these issues, the Got Talent franchise ended up debuting first as America's Got Talent on NBC on 21 June 2006, with judges David Hasselhoff, Brandy Norwood, and Piers Morgan. The show's original series was hosted by Regis Philbin. In 2016, the judging panel consisted of Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Melanie Brown, and Simon Cowell, and hosted by Nick Cannon, who has been the presenter since 2009. The grand prize on America's Got Talent is $1 million, and, since season 3, a chance to headline a show on the Las Vegas Strip. America's Got Talent proved extremely successful for NBC, pulling in high ratings in both total viewers and the younger 18-49 demographic. The show's initial success in America is credited with the eventual launch of the British series, and the overall global launch of the Got Talent franchise.

America's Got Talent
America's Got Talent (sometimes abbreviated as AGT) is an American reality television series on the NBC television network, and part of the global British Got Talent franchise. It is a talent show that features singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other performers of all ages competing for the advertised top prize of one million dollars. The show debuted in June 2006 for the summer television season. From season three (2008) onwards, the prize includes the one million dollars, payable in a financial annuity over 40 years, and a chance to headline a show on the Las Vegas Strip. Among its significant features is that it gives an opportunity to talented amateurs or unknown performers, with the results decided by an audience vote. The format is a popular one and has often been reworked for television in the United States and the United Kingdom.
This incarnation was created by Simon Cowell, and was originally due to be a 2005 British series called Paul O'Grady's Got Talent but was postponed due to O'Grady's acrimonious split with broadcaster ITV (later launching as Britain's Got Talent in 2007). As such, the American version became the first full series of the franchise.

Joel Osteen
Joel Scott Osteen (born March 5, 1963) is an American preacher, televangelist, author, and the Senior Pastor of Lakewood Church, the largest Protestant church in the United States, in Houston, Texas. His televised sermons are seen by over 7 million viewers weekly and over 20 million monthly in over 100 countries. Osteen has written five New York Times Bestselling books. He has been widely nicknamed "The Smiling Preacher".
In 2004, his first book, Your Best Life Now, was released by Time Warner and debuted at the top of the The New York Times Best Seller list. The book remained a The New York Times Best Seller for more than 200 weeks.
Early life and family
Osteen was born in Houston, Texas, and is one of six children of John Osteen and Dolores ("Dodie") Pilgrim. His father, a former Southern Baptist pastor, founded Lakewood Church, of which Osteen is the current senior pastor, in the back of an old feed store. Osteen attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he studied radio and television communications, but did not graduate and did not receive a degree from a divinity school. In 1982, he returned to Houston and founded Lakewood's television program, where he produced his father's televised sermons for 17 years until January 1999, when his father died unexpectedly from a heart attack.

(10 Jan 2017) The brother of one of the victims of a church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, said the gunman was in "God's hands".
Dylann Roof was sentenced to death on Tuesday for the shooting of nine black church members last year.
Mervin Graham, whose sister Cynthia Hurd died in the racially-motivated attack, said he couldn't see why one life should be saved when nine lives were taken.

This is the moment an American student on holiday to North Korea made 'the worst mistake of his life' by stealing a propaganda poster bearing the name of Kim Jong-il from the wall of his hotel.
Otto Warmbier, 21, was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in a prison camp Wednesday for subversion after stealing the poster, which he said was requested by a member of his church group.
Partially-censored images purporting to show the banner have now been released by North Korea's state news agency, along with CCTV of the moment Warmbier removed it from the wall.
Warmbier was charged with trying to steal a banner invoking the name of Kim Jong-il, the state's former leader. The banner reads: 'Let's arm ourselves strongly with Kim Jong-il patriotism!'
The phrase 'Kim Jong-il Patriotism' was used to glorify the late leader after his 2011 death. The slogan was described by his successor, Kim Jong Un, as the 'crystallization of socialist patriotism'.
Images and references to North Korea's leaders, who are treated with almost god-like status in propaganda, are sacrosanct.
North Koreans are required to keep and carefully maintain portraits of former leaders Kim Jong Il and his father, Kim Il Sung. A special large, bold typeface is used when their names are printed.
The video shows Warmbier in a restricted area of his hotel in Pyongyang walking up to the wall before removing the long rectangular poster which bears white lettering on a red background.
Warmbier, who went to the Communist state with a tour agency that promises travel to 'destinations your mother would rather you stayed away from', stayed at the Yanggakdo International Hotel.
CCTV shows the University of Virginia student entering a staff-only part of the hotel, which towers up from an island in the middle of the Taedong River.
Warmbier was at the end of a five-day group tour when he was stopped at the airport and taken away, according to the tour operator that arranged the trip.
In a statement last month, Warmbier confessed to 'severe crimes' against the state.
Warmbier entered the restricted area of the hotel in the early hours of Jan. 1, according to a time stamp on a CCTV image used as part of witness testimony to identify him.
That witness was Warmbier's North Korean tour guide, identified as Mr Byon, sources who recognized him confirmed after studying the footage.
The shirt and boots worn by Warmbier at the time along with his passport, mobile phone and an ID card were also given as evidence in the trial, the footage showed.
'When I got off work, there was nothing amiss,' a second witness, apparently a hotel staff member, told the court.
'But when I returned, I thought someone had deliberately taken the slogan down, so I mobilised security to prevent damage to it and reported it to the authorities.'
The court showed images on a flat screen showing efforts to match fingerprints from the banner with Warmbier's fingerprints.
Photos of the trial showed Warmbier marking copies of indictment and sentencing documents with red ink on his thumb.
As he was led from the court in handcuffs, Warmbier appeared to turn to Swedish ambassador to North Korea Torkel Stiernlöf, who was present at the trial, and ask him to 'keep working' on his case, according to the footage.
The United States does not have diplomatic relations with North Korea and is represented in consular matters there by the Swedish embassy.
North Korea has a long history of detaining foreigners and has used jailed Americans in the past to extract high-profile visits from the United States to secure their release.
He pleaded with judges in court Wednesday to 'please think of my family' and prayed for God to 'please save this poor scapegoat' before the sentence was handed down.
The White House condemned the sentence as 'unduly harsh' and demanded Warmbier's 'immediate release' from jail on humanitarian grounds.

This is the moment an American student on holiday to North Korea made 'the worst mistake of his life' by stealing a propaganda poster bearing the name of Kim Jong-il from the wall of his hotel.
Otto Warmbier, 21, was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in a prison camp Wednesday for subversion after stealing the poster, which he said was requested by a member of his church group.
Partially-censored images purporting to show the banner have now been released by North Korea's state news agency, along with CCTV which North Korea says shows the moment Warmbier removed it from the wall.
Warmbier was charged with trying to steal a banner featuring the name of Kim Jong-il, the state's former leader. The banner reads: 'Let's arm ourselves strongly with Kim Jong-il patriotism!' The phrase 'Kim Jong-il patriotism' was used to glorify the late leader after his 2011 death. The slogan was described by successor Kim Jong-un, as the 'crystallization of socialist patriotism'.
Images and references to North Korea's leaders, who are treated with almost god-like status in propaganda, are sacrosanct. North Koreans are required to keep and carefully maintain portraits of former leaders Kim Jong-il and his father, Kim Il-sung. A special large, bold typeface is used when their names are printed.
The video purportedly shows Warmbier in a restricted area of his hotel in Pyongyang walking up to the wall before removing the rectangular poster which bears white lettering on a red background.
Warmbier, who went to the Communist state with a tour agency that promises travel to 'destinations your mother would rather you stayed away from', stayed at the Yanggakdo International Hotel.
CCTV shows the University of Virginia student entering a staff-only part of the hotel, which towers up from an island in the middle of the Taedong River. Warmbier was at the end of a five-day group tour when he was stopped at the airport and taken away, according to the tour operator that arranged the trip.
In a statement last month, Warmbier confessed to 'severe crimes' against the state.
Warmbier entered the restricted area of the hotel in the early hours of Jan. 1, according to a time stamp on a CCTV image used as part of witness testimony to identify him.
That witness was Warmbier's North Korean tour guide, identified as Mr Byon, sources who recognized him confirmed after studying the footage. The shirt and boots worn by Warmbier at the time along with his passport, mobile phone and an ID card were also given as evidence in the trial, the footage showed.
'When I got off work, there was nothing amiss,' a second witness, apparently a hotel staff member, told the court.
'But when I returned, I thought someone had deliberately taken the slogan down, so I mobilised security to prevent damage to it and reported it to the authorities.'
The court showed images on a flat screen showing efforts to match fingerprints from the banner with Warmbier's fingerprints.
Photos of the trial showed Warmbier marking copies of indictment and sentencing documents with red ink on his thumb.
As he was led from the court in handcuffs, Warmbier appeared to turn to Swedish ambassador to North Korea Torkel Stiernlöf, who was present at the trial, and ask him to 'keep working' on his case, according to the footage.
The United States does not have diplomatic relations with North Korea and is represented in consular matters there by the Swedish embassy.
North Korea has a long history of detaining foreigners and has used jailed Americans in the past to extract high-profile visits from the United States to secure their release.
He pleaded with judges in court Wednesday to 'please think of my family' and prayed for God to 'please save this poor scapegoat' before the sentence was handed down.
The White House condemned the sentence as 'unduly harsh' and demanded Warmbier's 'immediate release' from jail on humanitarian grounds. US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said: 'Despite official claims that U.S. citizens arrested in the DPRK are not used for political purposes, it's increasingly clear from its very public treatment of these cases that the DPRK does exactly that.'
However, such a release appears unlikely as President Obama signed an executive order late Wednesday ordering tough new sanctions on North Korea relating to alleged nuclear tests carried out in January, and a ballistic missile test the following day.
'The U.S. and the global community will not tolerate North Korea's illicit nuclear and ballistic missile activities, and we will continue to impose costs on North Korea until it comes into compliance with its international obligations,' the statement concluded.
The president's order allows for U.S. implementation of sanctions approved by the United Nations two weeks ago.
