A satellite-based measurement in 1999 found it to be six feet taller but this was disputed. The summit is just under the cruising altitude of a passenger jet (around 31,000ft) At Everest's highest point, you are breathing in a third of the amount of oxygen you would normally breathe. This isn't because of different air composition but rather because of less air pressure. Since 1969 at least one person has died on Everest every year except for 1977 Winds on the mountain have been recorded at more than 200mph. One out of every 10 successful climbs to the summit ends in death. There are estimated to be 200 dead bodies on the mountain and they are used as waypoints for climbers Reinhold Messner was the first to climb the mountain alone and without oxygen in 1980 Frenchman Marco Siffredi and Austrian Stefan Gatt snowboarded down the mountain in 2001. The oldest person to climb Everest is 80 year-old Yuichiro Miura of Japan The youngest person to reach the summit is 13 year old Jordan Romero. In May 2010, the young American broke the record previously held by 15 year old Ming Kipa of Nepal. The world's tallest man-made structure of any kind with the Burj Khalifa in Dubai at 829m. Everest is more than ten times its height. The world's second highest building, Taipei 101 in Taiwan would need to be stacked up more than 17 times to match Everest The first tweet from the summit was sent by Kenton Cool in 2011. He tweeted: "Everest summit no 9! 1st tweet from the top of the world thanks to a weak 3G signal" The mountain gets taller by 4mm every years due to upward thrust created by two opposing tectonic plates. Google has now mapped Everest, although it did not get to the summit. In 2011 a team spent 2 weeks hiking over 70 miles to reach base camp, capturing images along the way. Without extra oxygen, Australian Tim Macartney-Snape became the first to climb from sea level to the summit, in May 1990. The first phone call was place from the summit in summer of 2013. Nepalese officials, however, were less than impressed and deemed it illegal. Bear Grylls, the youngest British climber to summit the mountain, also flew higher than the peak in a powered paraglider in 2007. The record for the longest time spent on the summit is 21 hours, achieved by Babu Chiri Sherpa in 1999. In 2004 there was a wedding on the summit. Moni Mule Pati and Pem Dorjee Sherpa, both from Nepal kept their plans a secret from other climbers until they reached the peak. Two Polish climbers, Leszka Cichy and Krzysztof Wielicki, were the first two summit Everst during winter in February of 1980 Everest is well known for its "traffic jams". Sometimes several hundred climbers can be on the summit at the same time. The mountain was named after George Everest in 1856. He was a retired Surveyor General who never saw the peak. 1974 was the last year that no one climbed Mount Everest

Hello everyone! It's been quite a while since I've uploaded anything to my channel. But recently, I've made a video that I've been wanting to make for quite some time, and I have the connection to do it, so I figured, "why not?" How this video came about: About 2 years ago, I became aware of the problems of Mount Everest; more specifically, the pollution and garbage that has piled up over the years on this beautiful and majestic peak. In doing so, I became fascinated of the story about so many bodies being left behind. When climbing the World's Tallest Mountain, it's a given that you're facing death. Especially since nothing can survive without oxygen above 24,000 feet in elevation. However, in my research, it seems many people are either unaware of just how difficult it is to simply survive on such a challenging obstacle as Everest, or they just play ignorance. In any case, many are saddened, shocked; even horrified at the prospect of having to climb over bodies while ascending to the Summit. Indeed, many bodies become landmarks; names on maps, who's real identities are forgotten to time. While looking over images of bodies on Mount Everest those 2 years ago, I noticed that I was humming the song, "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas. I knew right then that I had to make a music video using these haunting images, as well as this beautiful song. I would like to dedicate this video to all those whom have perished in their quest to summit the World's Tallest Mountain. Let us never forget that they had names, identities, and most importantly, families and friends who loved and cared about them. They paid the ultimate price for the best chance any mortal on this Earth has to touch Heaven. I have included a disclaimer for the music in this video, at the end of the video. The ascent began on the Chinese side on the famous north route. It took him four days to climb from the base camp to the jumping location. At precisely 2:30 p.m. local time he leaped despite adverse weather conditions with temperatures -18 Celsius. Because the cliff at the top was not very high, the initial moments of the leap in the rarified high altitude air were the most critical phase. Rozov needed more time than usual in the thin air to transition from freefall to flying. After that he flew for nearly a full minute at speeds of about 200 km/h (125 mph) along the north face before he landed safely on the Rongbuk glacier - at an altitude of 5,950 meters. "Only when I got back home did I see how hard it was for me both physically and psychologically," said Rozov after getting home to Moscow. Zapis wyprawy niemieckiego geologa Jochema Hemmleba, który ruszył w Himalaje, aby odkryć ciało jednego ze zdobywców Mount Everestu. Zdaniem Hemmleba pierwszym człowiekiem, który stanął na szczycie najwyższej góry świata, nie był Edmund Hillary (1953 rok). Geolog przypomina, że w 1924 roku na Czomolungmę ruszyła para Brytyjczyków George Mallory i Andrew Irvine. Obaj ponieśli śmierć w tej ekspedycji. Niemniej obu widziano zaledwie kilkaset metrów od wierzchołka ośmiotysięcznika. Hemmleb znalazł już szczątki Mallory'ego, teraz liczy na znalezienie ciała Irvine'a. Wiadomo, że zaginiony Anglik miał przy sobie kamerę. Odnalezienie jego zwłok i nagrania, zmieniłoby historię himalaizmu.

Sie arbeiten oberhalb des Basislagers auf 5350 Meter Höhe, als eine Lawine den Berg herunter donnert. 16 Sherpas sterben. In den Tagen danach legen die überlebenden Träger die Arbeit nieder. Sie streiken für bessere Arbeitsbedingungen. September 2014: Fünf Extrembergsteiger aus Deutschland und Italien sind auf dem Weg zum 8013 Meter hohen Gipfel des Shishapangma. Von dort wollen sie mit Skiern abfahren, per Mountainbike zum 170 Kilometer entfernten Cho Oyu radeln und auch diesen Achttausender innerhalb eines Tages erklimmen. Das Projekt Double 8 ist ebenso spektakulär wie riskant. Nur 100 Höhenmeter unterhalb des Gipfels des Shishapangma wird die Gruppe von einer Lawine erfasst. Der Deutsche Sebastian Haag und der Italiener Andrea Zambaldi werden 600 Meter in die Tiefe gerissen - und sterben. Oktober 2014: Hunderte Wanderer sind auf der beliebten Annapurna-Route unterwegs, viele von ihnen am 5416 Meter hohen Thorong-Pass. Überraschend bricht ein gewaltiger Schneesturm über sie herein. Fast 400 Menschen können sich gerade noch in Sicherheit bringen, doch über 40 Bergsteiger erfrieren oder werden von Lawinen getötet. Zahlreiche Bergsteiger werden vermisst. Warum brechen von Jahr zu Jahr mehr Bergsteiger in den Himalaya und vor allem zum Mount Everest auf? Warum sterben dort so viele Menschen, obwohl die Gefahren bekannt sind? Ist es genau diese Gefahr, die Bergsteiger aus aller Welt anlockt - und sie unvorsichtig werden lässt?
