Here is a rarely seen comedy sketch from the early 1960s.It features Jack Benny and Rod Serling in a parody of the Twilight Zone series.
Playhouse 90: Season 2, Episode 36 Bomber's Moon (22 May 1958) Directed by John Frankenheimer Written by Rod Serling Cast Robert Cummings ... Colonel Culver Martin Balsam ... Captain Mantell Hazel Court ... Mary Jarvis Rip Torn ... Lieutenant Harrison Larry Gates ... Major Thomas J. Pat O'Malley ... Pub Keeper Cliff Robertson ... Himself (host) The title comes from one of Edward R. Murrow’s wartime broadcasts – “It’s a bomber’s moon tonight.” This is the story of that brief, but jagged fragment of time known as War. It tells only of a moment in the history of violent moments. It tells of no victories and no defeats – but rather of the minute tragedies of a few who stand in the back-wash of battle. For this reason. This story could be any time, any place, any war. It happens to take place in . . . ENGLAND April, 1943
The Twilight Zone is an American television anthology series created by Rod Serling. Each episode (156 in the original series) is a mixture of self-contained drama, psychological thriller, fantasy, science fiction, suspense, or horror, often concluding with a macabre or unexpected twist. A popular and critical success, it introduced many Americans to serious science fiction and abstract ideas through television and also through a wide variety of Twilight Zone literature. The program followed in the tradition of earlier shows like Tales of Tomorrow (1951--1953)—which also dramatized the short story "What You Need"—and Science Fiction Theatre (1955--1957), as well as radio programs such as The Weird Circle and X Minus One, and the radio work of Serling's hero, dramatist Norman Corwin.
Marc Zicree, the world's expert on the Twilight Zone, reveals for the first time publicly the story Ray Bradbury told him of how Ray helped Twilight Zone in its infancy... and how -- despite his and Serling's best intentions -- events conspired that prevented Ray from becoming one of the great writers for the show (while three of his proteges did). An amazing episode of Mr. Sci-Fi -- don't miss it!
Originally broadcast in 1963, "He's Alive" was Serling's take on hate-mongering. Fifty years later, unfortunately it seems that the episode really is timeless.
A small group of U.S. soldiers, cold, out of supplies and isolated, are taking cover in a ruined farmhouse during the Korean war. The officer in charge is tormented that a patrol he sent out to scout the enemy is overdue and contact lost. In a weak, one way radio signal, the patrol states their position. When further orders come in, the officer realizes he must order an air strike on the enemy that would surely kill the patrol, or risk the enemy mounting an attack on the rest of his forces. Original air date: 06/07/1954

Rod Serling talks to Mike Wallace about sponsors and censorship on TV. Its amazing this interview was done in 1959. Same stuff is happening now. Nothing new.
Narrated by Rod Serling.
A famous teleplay starring Ed Begley, Everett Sloane and Richard Kiley. Elizabeth Montgomery has a bit part. It aired live on January 12, 1955. The New York Times critic Jack Gould, hailed it as a breakthrough and suggested a second showing. On February 9, NBC again broadcast the play live with the same cast. This was the first time and perhaps the only time in history that a performance was repeated live on American television. This kine-scope is from the first broadcast because the second broadcast did not have commercials. The Examiner 2015-02-27Rodman Edward "Rod" Serling (December 25, 1924 – June 28, 1975) was an American screenwriter, novelist, television producer, and narrator best known for his live television dramas of the 1950s and his science fiction anthology TV series, The Twilight Zone. Serling was active in politics, both on and off the screen and helped form television industry standards. He was known as the "angry young man" of Hollywood, clashing with television executives and sponsors over a wide range of issues including censorship, racism, and anti-war politics.
Serling was born December 25, 1924, into a Jewish family in Syracuse, New York, the second of two sons born to Esther (née Cooper) and Samuel Lawrence Serling. Serling's father had worked as a secretary and amateur inventor before having children, but took on his father-in-law's profession as a grocer in order to earn a steady income. Sam Serling later took up the trade of butcher after the Great Depression forced the store to close. Serling's mother was a homemaker.
Ray Douglas Bradbury (born August 22, 1920) is an American fantasy, horror, science fiction, and mystery writer. Best known for his dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451 (1953) and for the science fiction stories gathered together as The Martian Chronicles (1950) and The Illustrated Man (1951), Bradbury is one of the most celebrated among 20th and 21st century American writers of speculative fiction. Many of Bradbury's works have been adapted into television shows or films.
Bradbury was born in 1920 in Waukegan, Illinois to Esther Moberg Bradbury, a Swedish immigrant, and Leonard Spaulding Bradbury, a power and telephone lineman.
Ray Bradbury is related to the American Shakespeare scholar Douglas Spaulding. He is also directly descended from Mary Bradbury, who was tried, convicted and sentenced to hang as a witch in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. She was married to Captain Thomas Bradbury of Salisbury, Massachusetts.
Bradbury was a reader and writer throughout his youth who was greatly influenced by the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. Bradbury was especially impressed with Poe's ability to draw readers into his works. In his youth, he spent much time in the Carnegie library in Waukegan, Illinois, reading such authors as H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, and his favorite author, Edgar Rice Burroughs who wrote novels such as Tarzan of the Apes and The Warlord of Mars. He loved Burroughs' The Warlord of Mars so much that at the age of twelve he wrote his own sequel. An aunt read him short stories when he was a child. He used this library as a setting for much of his novel Something Wicked This Way Comes, and depicted Waukegan as "Green Town" in some of his other semi-autobiographical novels—Dandelion Wine, Farewell Summer—as well as in many of his short stories.
