stand by your man --- tammy wynette.
Virginia Wynette Pugh, known professionally by her stage name Tammy Wynette, (May 5, 1942 – April 6, 1998) was an American country music singer-songwriter and one of country music's best-known artists and biggest-selling female singers. She was a country music icon. Wynette was called the "First Lady of Country Music", and her best-known song, "Stand by Your Man", was one of the best-selling hit singles by a woman in the history of country music. Many of her hits dealt with classic themes of loneliness, divorce, and the difficulties of man-woman relationships. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Wynette charted 23 No. 1 songs. Along with Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, she is credited with having defined the role of women in country music during the 1970s. Wynette's marriage to country music singer George Jones in 1969, which ended in divorce in 1975, created a country music "couple", following the earlier success of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Jones and Wynette recorded a sequence of albums and singles that hit the charts throughout the 1970s and early eighties. The Examiner 2015-03-01Virginia Wynette Pugh, known professionally as Tammy Wynette, (May 5, 1942 – April 6, 1998) was an American country music singer-songwriter and one of the genre's best-known artists and biggest-selling woman singers.
Wynette was sometimes called the "First Lady of Country Music", and her best-known song, Stand by Your Man, was one of the best-selling hit singles by a woman in the history of the country music genre. Many of Wynette's hits dealt with classic themes of loneliness, divorce, and the difficulties of man-woman relationships. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Wynette ranked high in the country sales charts with 17 number-one songs. Along with Loretta Lynn, Lynn Anderson, and Dolly Parton, Wynette defined the role of women in country music during the 1970s.
Wynette's marriage to the country singer George Jones in 1969, which end in divorce in 1975, created a country music "couple", following the earlier success of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Jones and Wynette recorded a sequence of duet albums and single records that hit the charts throughout the 1970s.
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer, and businessman. Often referred to as the King of Pop, or by his initials MJ, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971.
In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made him a staple on MTV in the 1990s. Through stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced numerous hip hop, post-disco, contemporary R&B, pop and rock artists.
God's gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that
There's no place to run and hide
For he knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get 'cha for that
This doggone world we're living in
It's giving me a fit
It seems like everywhere I turn
I see a hypocrite
Well, if ya wanna go to heaven
Well, you can't live like that
So let me tell you, brother
God's a-gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah
God's gonna get 'cha for that
There's no place to run and hide
For he knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get you for that
Now, the preacher in our church
He's a mighty devoted man
Everybody thinks, that he's a-goin' to the promised land
But the other night on a country road
While I was a-drivin' through
I caught the preacher makin' love
To sister, mary lou
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah
God's gonna get 'cha for that
There's no place to run an' hide
For he knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Now oh sister bessie, she like to testify
She says, 'i'll always love the lord, someday I'm a-gonna fly
But the other night while goin' by the local liquor store
I caught oh sister bessie, flyin' out the door
God's gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that
There's no place to run and hid
For he knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get you for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah (get 'cha for that)
God's gonna get 'cha for that (get 'cha for that)
There's no place to run and hide
For he knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah (get 'cha for that)
God's gonna get 'cha for that (get 'cha for that)
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get you for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah (get 'cha for that)
God's gonna get 'cha for that (get 'cha for that)
Fades-
There's no place to run and hide
For he knows where you're at
Well you thought I'd be waitin' up when you come home last night
You'd been out with all the boys and you ended up half tight
But liquor and love that just don't mix leave a bottle or me behind
And don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
No don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
Just stay out there on the town and see what you can find
Cause if you want that kind of love well you don't need none of mine
So don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
[ guitar - steel ]
You never take me anywhere because you're always gone
And many a night I've laid awake and cried dear all alone
And you come in a kissin' on me it happens every time
No don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
No don't come home a drinkin'...
I believe in fairy tales
Where knights in shinin' Armour come along
You were my knight in shining Armour
And you stole my heart with a song
You gave me a castle and a princess
And I was the world's proudest queen
And then came the dragon in the bottle
And I watched as it slowly slayed the king
And we all live happy never after
For we just put the castle up for sale
But I guess that I will always be a dreamer
'Cause I still believe in fairy tales
I've never seen the inside of a bar room
or listened to a jukebox all night long
but I see these are the things
that bring you pleasure
so I'm gonna make some changes in our home
I've heard it said if you can't beat 'em, join 'em
so if thats the way you've wanted me to be
I'll change if it takes that to make you happy
from now on your gonna see a different me
Because your good girls gonna go bad
I'm gonna be the swingenest swinger you've ever had
if you like 'em
painted up, powdered up
then you oughta be glad
'cos your good girls gonna go bad
I'll even learn to like the taste of whiskey
infact you'll hardly recognise your wife
I'll buy some brand new clothes and dress up fancy
for my journey to the wilder side of life
Because your good girls gonna go bad
I'm gonna be the swingenest swinger you've ever had
if you like 'em
painted up, powdered up
then you oughta be glad
'cos your good girls gonna go bad
There never was a little girl more wanted than me
I had all the love a child could ever want or need
Daddy gave me everything he could afford to buy
An' on the ceilin' in my room he painted me a sky
He told me not to be afraid when it stormed outside
He said, "In your room, sweetheart the sun will always shine"
An' through the years of growin' up if somethin' made me cry
It didn't seem to hurt so bad beneath the painted sky
Beneath the painted sky, that's where I want to be
A place to go when this old world gets the best of me
A place where dreams come true and no one ever says, "Goodbye"
Oh, I wish that I could live again beneath the painted sky
Girls grow up and fall in love and that's how it is
Sometimes the men don't love 'em like their Daddy's did
Sometimes the hurt's so bad, the way it is tonight
It makes me wanna be back home beneath the painted sky
Beneath the painted sky, that's where I want to be
A place to go when this old world gets the best of me
A place where dreams come true and no one ever says, "Goodbye"
Oh, I wish that I could live again beneath the painted sky
Away in a manger, no crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head
The stars in the Heavens looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus, asleep in the hay
Beneath me Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to Heaven to live with Thee there
Away in a manger, no crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head
The stars in the Heavens looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus, asleep in the hay
Dear daughters
Gwen, you're my oldest and you're quite a lady
You're my only blue eyed girl and you turn sixteen in April
And you sure made a change in my world
I'm sorry I missed the big evening, your first date and I wasn't around
Save all the secret things you did and tell me when I get to town
And on your graduation I wanted pictures to look back on
But then I wasn't there to take them, as usual I was gone
You've had to grow up much too quick and you've done it on your own
You did it without mama 'cause mama wasn't home
And Jackie, you're quite a lady too
You're just one year younger than Gwen
And there's so much that I'm missing like being mommy now and then
I remember the day you cooked your first meal, you were nine
You cooked biscuits and ham
And you called it to me how good it was 'cause I was out of town
And at the party for fathers and daughters, well, I know you felt out of place
And even the pretty dress I bought couldn't fill that empty space
And the time when you got sick and the doctors turned you down
They said they couldn't treat you with your mama out of town
And Tina, you're such a pretty girl with big almond eyes, brown
And they voted you a home coming queen when I was out of town
I know you were a beauty 'cause your sisters dressed you right
And you said it didn't matter that I was out of town that night
And the day that you joined the cheer leading team
Boy, nothing could hold you down, you yelled, "Hip hip hurray"
Over the phone 'cause as usual I was out of town
And Tamala Georgette Jones, you simply take my breath away
Born just six short years ago and named for your daddy and me
Going to sleep on [Incomprehensible] arm and listening to her hymn
Drifting off to fairy land while sucking on your thumb
While, just yesterday you pulled a tooth, you sure are brave and strong
Come and look out through the window
that big old moon is shining down
tell me now dont it remind you
of a blanket on the ground
Remember back when love first found us
we'd go slippin out a town
and we'd love beneath the moonlight
on a blanket on the ground
I'll get the blanket from the bedroom
we'll go walking once again
to that spot down by the river
where our sweet love first began
just because we are married
dont mean that we cant slip around
so lets walk out by the moonlight
and lay the blanket on the ground
Oh remember how excited
we used to get when love was young
that old moon was our best buddy
we couldnt wait for night to come
Now you know you still excite me
i know you love me like i am
just once more i wish you'd love me
on a blanket on the ground
i'll get the blanket from the bedroom
and we'll go walking once again
to that spot down by the river
where our sweet love forst began
just because we are married
dont mean that we cant slip around
so lets walk out by the moonlight
lay the blanket on the ground
do do do do do do do do,
do do do do do do do do,
so lets walk out throught the moonlight
lay the blanket on the ground,
Just follow the stairway,
To this lonely world of mine.
You'll find me waiting here,
In apartment number nine.
Not so very long ago,
You walked away from me.
And after all the plans we made,
You decided to be free.
Loneliness surrounds me,
Without your arms around me,
And the sun will never shine,
In apartment number nine.
I keep waiting in this lonely room,
Just incase you change your mind.
You'll find me waiting here.
In apartment number nine.
Loneliness surrounds me,
Without your arms around me,
And the sun will never shine,
In apartment number nine.
No, the sun will never shine,
When you left you said you's doin' me a favor
I cried and I begged you not to go
Now it's just been two short weeks
And you want to come back
But I think there's somethin' that you oughtta know
I've rearranged the livin' room to suit me
I gave your favorite chair to charity
That closet you insisted on, it's mine now
So don't bring your old hangups back to me
I'm wearin' my jeans a little bit tighter
Changed my hair style and I'm learnin' how to dance
So maybe you best wait a little bit longer
'Fore you come back and give me another chance
I thank you for your call but someone's knockin' at the door
And he's drivin' a big old Cadillac
I prob'ly won't be home when you come to get your clothes
There on the back porch in a paper sack
I'm wearin' my jeans a little bit tighter
Changed my hair style and I'm learnin' how to dance
So maybe you best wait a little bit longer
'Fore you come back and give me another chance
I'm wearin' my jeans a little bit tighter
Changed my hair style and I'm learnin' how to dance
So maybe you best wait a little bit longer
My shoulder still burns where you touched me last night
You hugged me and walked out the door
We've been pretending that we're only friends
But tonight we can feel something more
Just being around you is making me warm
One touch and I know that I'll melt in your arms
There's no way to stop this burning desire
'Cause there's nothing as hot as a slow burning fire
You look in my eyes just a little too long
Before I can look away but lately
I've caught you staring at me
With a new kind of look on your face
Just being around you is making me warm
One touch and I know that I'll melt in your arms
There's no way to stop this burning desire
'Cause there's nothing as hot as a slow burning fire
Just being around you is making me warm
One touch and I know that I'll melt in your arms
There's no way to stop this burning desire
Last night, all alone in a barroom
Met a man with a drink in his hand
He had baby blue eyes, coal black hair
And a smile that a girl understands
Then he came and sat down at my table
And as he placed his hand over mine
I found myself wanting to kiss him
For temptation was flowing like wine
And I was almost persuaded
To strip myself of my pride
Almost persuaded
To push my conscience aside
Then we danced and he whispered, "I need you"
Let me take you away and be your man
Then I looked into his eyes and I saw it
The reflection of my wedding band
And I was almost persuaded
To let strange lips lead me on
Almost persuaded
Time
Won't ease my memory
It's killing me now
And Lord, how I need him here
Just to feel him near
And hear him breathin'
Still
The night goes on and on
Another lonely song, I'm singin'
Lord, don't think bad of me
Don't get mad at me
You know I'm weak
And it couldn't 'cause a whole lot of harm
To be in somebody's arms
'Cause she's in his
I know she is
I know she is
But God, I love him
And though
I shouldn't give a damn
That's the way I am now
And Lord, yes I stay this way
I can't play this way
Just because I'm lonely
Still
The night goes on and on
Another lonely song, I'm singin'
Lord, don't look down on me
Don't frown on me
Let's just keep talking
Oh, baby come home
Baby come home
Oh, baby come home
Please come on home
I see your picture on every wall
Then I realize, that you're not here at all
Come on home now baby, come home
Well, I miss you so much
Come on home, come on home
I love you so much, come on home
All of these years were not all bad
'Cause, I'm so lonely I feel so sad
Oh, won't you come back baby?
Come back to me
And I hope that you still love me
Come on home now
Please come on home
Well, I miss you so much
Come on home, come on home
I love you so much, come on home
Well, all of those years were not all bad
'Cause, I'm so lonely I feel so sad
Oh, won't you come back baby?
I love you so much
Come on home
I love you so much
I'm back in baby's arms how I've missed those loving arms
I'm back where I belong back in baby's arms
Don't know why we quarrel we never did before
Since we found out how it hurts I'll bet we never quarrel anymore
I'm back in baby's arms...
I'm back in baby's arms...
Thought I didn't need his love till he took it away
Now I'm back where I belong and in my baby's arms and I'm gonna stay
I'm back in baby's arms...
I'm back in baby's arms...
Just follow the stairway
To this lonely world of mine
You'll find me waitin' here
In Apartment # 9
Not so very long ago
You walked away from me
And after the all the plans we made
You decided to be free
Loneliness surrounds me
Without your arms around me
And the sun will never shine
In Apartment # 9
Just follow the stairway to this lonely world of mine
You'll find me waitin' here in Apartment No 9
Not so very long ago you walked away from me
And after all the plans we made you decided to be free
Loneliness surrounds me without your arms around me
And the sun will never shine in Apartment No 9
[ piano - steel ]
I'll keep waiting in this lonely room just in case you'd change your mind
You'll find me waitin' here in Apartment No 9
Loneliness surrounds me...
No the sun will never shine in Apartment No 9
Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
When the bridge of love starts falling down falling down falling down
The bridge is strong but when things go wrong it's down down down
Watch the happy children go round and round some are black some are brown
The bridge is strong but when things go wrong it's down down down
Hear the little children singing their song everything's right and they belong
All the little children are gonna be sad when the bridge falls down no mom no dad
When the bridge of love starts falling down...
One hand a reachin' out to another makes a bridge of love will you be my brother
The bridge is strong but when things go wrong it's down down down
Look at our country what do you see the bridge of all colors standing free
The bridge is strong but when hearts go wrong it's down down down
When the bridge of love starts falling down...
There goes the alarm well it's time to get up
Time to get the kids all dressed up time to get them safely on their way
Then up the stairs I will gently wake him his morning kiss I'll take him
And whsiper a greatest time this day
Help him guide him take his hand and walk beside him
And bring him safely home to me
Good morning Lord well I know you're busy but this prayer will be so easy
Thanks for the night you made him mine
And Lord though each day I kiss him right now I sure do miss him
So let me ask you one more time
Help him guide him...
And bring him safely home to me
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.
I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
"As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal";
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
[originally ...let us die to make men free]
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
I've told you almost every bedtime story
And you've heard almost every nursery rhyme
So tonight before you'll go to sleep
And pray the Lord your soul to keep
Here's Mommy's favorite story one more time
Once upon a time there was a castle
And in this castle lived a king and queen
And it came to pass they both were blessed
By one little blue eyed princess
With the softest golden curls you've ever seen
But then one day he met this pretty lady
And she had lots of pretty words to say
And this part makes your Mommy sad
'Cause, oh, what big eyes she had
And she took his hand and led him far away
Still it's just another bedtime story
But telling it brings teardrops to my eyes
Just another pretty bedtime story
So please forgive Mommy if she cries
Then it came to pass the king grew lonely
And the pretty lady wasn't all she seemed
He realized that he was wrong
And started his long journey home
For he missed his little princess and his queen
Then he was back and safe inside his castle
And tears of joy came pouring down like rain
Then the castle rang with laughter
They lived happy ever after
Knowing he would never leave again
Still it's just another bedtime story
But telling it brings teardrops to my eyes
Just another pretty bedtime story
So please forgive Mommy if she cries
Well me and Jesus we got our own things going me and Jesus we got it all worked out
Me and Jesus we got our own things going
We don't need anybody to tell us what it's all about
Well I know a man that once was a sinner I know a man that once was a drunk
I know a man that once was a loser
He went out one day and made an altar right out of a stump
Me and Jesus...
Jesus brought me thruough all of my troubles
Jesus brought me through all of my trials
Yes Jesus brought me through all of my heartaches
And I know why my Jesus is gonna forsake me now
Cause me and Jesus...
We can't afford any fancy preaching we can't afford any fancy church
We can't afford any fancy singing
But you know Jesus got a lotta poor people out doing his work
Me and Jesus...
Me and Jesus...
The baby cries I could almost die from lonesome
The late show's gone and the coffee's on think I'll read some
Somewhere out there my love you share and your thoughts are far from home
But when the lights on Broadway go off and every honky tonk is closed up
My arms stay open late so you'll come home
What you do is wrong but my love stays strong for you
I don't think I'll change a thing at all I might lose you
Though it's almost dawn and you're still not home I'll wait here patiently
The lights to my love never go off and the door to my heart don't close up
My arms stay open late so you'll come home
My arms stay open late so you'll come home
You still smile at me when I come home and you always
ask me how my day has been
You dry your face to make me feel there's nothing wrong
As we start another evening of return
You sit and wait for me to tell my usual lie at all
excuse to get away from home
And I help you with your coat and straighten up your tie
But as you leave I'm reaching for the phone
This is not a home it's a place where we change close
And walk the floor and wait and watch the clock
No it's not a home this is one of those situations
known as marriage on the rocks
You wait from nine to five pretending I'm at home
And yet you know I meet him secretly
How much longer must this game of decieve go on
We'd both be better off if we were free
No it's not a home this is one of those situations
May the good Lord bless and keep you whether near or far away
May you find that long awaited golden day today
May your troubles all be small ones and your fortune ten times ten
May the good Lord bless and keep you till we meet again
May you walk with sunlight shining and a bluebird in every tree
May there be a silver lining back of every cloud you see
Fill your dreams with sweet tomorrows never mind what might have been
May the good Lord bless and keep you till we meet again
May you walk with sunlight...
My man understands, he holds me in the palm of his hand and
I like it ,I like it.
He's a dream, the real thing ,he always makes me feel like a queen
and I love it, I love it.
His arms, are warm, they keep me away from harm and I'm proud of it ,so proud of it.
He's mine, he's fine, he makes a funny feeling go up my spine
And I wanna keep it like this all the time.
He's got what I want,when I want it ,he's got what I need,when I need it,
I'd fight a million, just to keep it,Just to keep on holding to the precious love he gives me
How I hate, to sit and wait ,when I know he's got to work late
I can't stand it, can't stand it.
But when, he walks in ,and I'm in his lovin' arms again
I forget it ,I.... forget it.
His touch, is too much, he knows how to love me just enough
and I love him, I love him.
My man, understands ,he holds me in the palm of his hand
And I wanna keep it like this, all the time.
He's got what I want ,when I want it,He got what I need, when I need it, I'd fight a million, just to keep it. Just to keep on holding to the precious love he gives me.
My man understands, he holds me in the palm of his hand
And I wanna keep it like this all the time,
Yeah I wanna keep it like this all the time.

There's just one place for me
Near you
It's like heaven to be
Near you
Times when we're apart
And I can't face my heart
Say you'll never stay
More than just two lips away
If my hours could be spent
Near you
I'd be more than content
Near you
Make my life worth while
By telling me that I'll
Spend the rest of my days
Near you
near you - near you
Make my life worth while
By telling me that I'll spend the rest of my days
Near you
Spend the rest of my days
My little girl was playing with her friend from down the street
She took her by the hand and said there's someone you should meet
And then they went into her room to play another game
She picked up all her dollys and told them all by name
I listened as she said their names here's Betty Sue and Kay
Jack and June and Mary Jo and then I've heard her say
This one is my Daddy Doll and she sat him on the floor
I make believe he's daddy since he don't live here no more
My daddy doll is always near to help put me to bed
He kisses me and says goodnight like my real daddy did
He talks with me and never failes to answer when I called
My Daddy Doll is special and I love him most of all
My Daddy Doll is special and I love him most of all
I'd followed me to Texas I'd followed me to Utah
We didn't find it there so we moved on
I'd followed you to Alabam things look good in Birmingham
We didn't find it there so we moved on
I know you're tired of following my elusive dreams and schemes
For they're only fleeting things my elusive dreams
I had your child in Memphis you heard of work in Nashville
We didn't find it there so we moved on
To a small farm in Nebraska to a gold mine in Alaska
We didn't find it there so we moved on
And now we've left Alaska because there was no gold mine
But this time only two of us moves on
Now all we have is each other and a little memory to cling to
And still you won't let me go on alone
I know you're tired of following my elusive dreams and schemes
For they're only fleeting things my elusive dreams
Each time you touch me that little tingle goes up and down my spine
I feel a trembling on my lips when you press yours to mine
And these butterflies won't let me eat at suppertime have I lost my mind or is it love
[ organ ]
You make my heart beat until it's sounding like it's on over time
The chill of winter goes up and down me but it's still summertime
And why am I walking way up on this cloud so high
Have I've grown wings to fly or is it love
And why am I walking...
By a fountain back in Rome
I fell in love with you
In a small cafe in Athens
You said you loved me too
And it was April in Paris
When I first held you close to me
Rome, Georgia, Athens, Texas
And Paris, Tennessee
No, we're not the jet set
We're the old Chevrolet set
There's no Riviera in Festus, Missouri
And you won't find Onasis in Mullinville, Kansas
No, we're not the jet set
We're the old Chevrolet set
But ain't we got love?
No, we're not the jet set
We're the old Chevrolet set
Our steak and Martinis
Is draft beer with weiners
Our Bach and Tschaikowsky
Is haggard and husky
No, we're not the jet set
We're the old Chevrolet set
But ain't we got love?
No, we're not the jet set
We're the old Chevrolet set
The Jones and Wynette set
Ain't the flamin' Suzette set
Our Bach and Tschaikowsky
Well, you can find me servin' drinks inside a honky tonk
And I'll even play the jukebox on your dime
And sometimes I will dance with you to your favorite song
Yeah, but she'll be mine after closing time
She will smile at all the men and shake her pretty hips
And you can yell and say she look so fine
But I'm not looking for a man I'm looking for their tips
And then she'll be mine after closing time
When they turn the lights out that's when I'll turn him on
Oh, she can serve me love much better than wine
So when they close the doors I guess who takes me home
And she'll be mine after closing time
Tomorrow night I'll still be there inside the honky tonk
And I'll still play the jukebox on your dime
Yeah as long as you keep buyin' drinks she'll smile and lead you on
But she'll be mine after closing time
When they turn the lights out that's when I'll turn him on
Oh, she can serve me love much better than wine
So when they close the doors I guess who takes me home
And she'll be mine after closing time
I'm not the first to tell you that I need you but I waited and I tried to understand
Love's one thing they don't have that I can give you
And I love you every day the best I can
You run around looking for something different
But now you're home and I'm gonna treat you right
I'll learn all the ways if you'll just show me you're gonna see a change in me tonight
Take me and make me your kind of woman teach me lovin' words I need to say
Take my hand and guide me stay here close beside me
And I'll be the kind of woman who can keep your kind of man satisfied
And I'll be the kind of woman who can keep your kind of man satisfied
You ask how much I need you must I explain
I need you oh my darling like roses need rain
You ask how long I'll love you I'll tell you true
Until the 12th of Never I'll still be loving you
Hold me close never let me go hold me close melt my heart like April snow
I'll love you till the bluebells forget to bloom
I'll love you till the clover has lost it's perfume
I'll love you till the poets run out of rhyme
Until the 12th of Never and that's a long long time
We're just a pair of old sneakers
Stringin' each other along
Sometimes I feel just like a heel
'Cause I know in my soul that it's wrong
We're just a pair of old sneakers
Kickin' each other around
Eight times a week, we play, 'Hide an' cheat'
'Til we've run that game in the ground
We're just a pair of old sneakers
We know that cheatin' is wrong
We're just a pair of old sneakers
And we've been in the closet too long
We're just a pair of old sneakers
Worn out an' comin' unglued
Both wearin' rings, feelin' ashamed
Tryin' to run from the truth
We're just a pair of old sneakers
And nothin' can tear us apart
Living the lie and Lord knows we've tried
To stop walking on each other's heart
We're just a pair of old sneakers
We know that cheatin' is wrong
We're just a pair of old sneakers
And we've been in the closet too long
We're just a pair of old sneakers

Before you take another step
There's something you should know
About the years ahead and how they'll be.
You'll be living in a world
Where roses hardly ever grow
'Cause, all I have to offer you is me.
(Both)
There'll be no mansion waiting on the hill
With crystal chandeliers
And there'll be no fancy clothes for you to wear
Everything I have is standing here
In front of you to see
All I have to offer you is me.
--- Instrumnental ---
(George)
Sweetheart I'll give you all my love
In every way I can
Make sure that's what you want
While you're still free
The only gold I have for you
Is in this wedding band
'Cause, all I have to offer you is me.
(Both)
There'll be no mansion waiting on the hill
With crystal chandeliers
And there'll be no fancy clothes for you to wear
Everything I have is standing here
In front of you to see
All I have to offer you is me.
Darling let me spend a moment with you I want both of us to share what's on my mind
There's been a change in you and I'm so happy
For I haven't been this happy all the time
There's been something in your past and now it's dying
It kept you from loving me all this time
I can tell that she don't worry you any longer
And after all these years you're really mine
Cause your love's been a long time coming all the hurt just turned to loving
And I'll take it before it's not too late
It took a long time to work it out now it's here and there's no doubt
Your love's been a long time coming but it's here to stay
It took a long time to work it out...
I've never seen the inside of a Bar Room
Or listened to a Juke box all night long
But I see these are the things
that bring you pleasure
So I'm gonna make some changes in our home
Well I've heard it said if you can't beat 'em join 'em
so if that's the way you wanted me to be
Well if it takes that to keep you happy
From now on you're gonna see a different me
Chorus
Because your good girl's gonna go bad
I'm gonna be the swinginest swinger
you've ever had
If you like 'em painted up, powdered up,
then you oughta be glad
'cos your good girl's gonna go bad
I'll even learn to like the taste of whisky
In fact you'll hardly recognise your wife
I'll buy some brand new clothes and dress up fancy
For my journey to the wilder side of life
Chorus
Because your good girl's gonna go bad
I'm gonna be the swinginest swinger you ever had
If you like 'em painted up, powdered up
Then you oughta be glad 'cos your good girl's gonna go bad
Oh yea your good girl's gonna go bad
You're everything my heart has cried for
Everything I've heard and tried for
You're the only thing I glide for you belong to me
You're the only one I dream for, only one I cheat
And scheme for
No one else I'd fight and scream for you belong to me
You're the one thing I can't do without
And you're the only one I'd never doubt
You're exactly what I knew you'd be
You're the reason I'm completely me
You're the only one who wants me
Only one some day will haunt me
You're everything I wanted it to be
Yes you're everything that means everything to me
When you walk through a storm hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on walk on with hope in your heart and you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on walk on...
I buy toys for my little girl almost every day
To try and keep her happy since her daddy went away
But today she looked so lonely as she climbed upon my knees
And in her sweet tiny voice she said this to me
"Mommy, I love you and all of my toys
But I want a daddy like the other girls and boys"
Then she gave me her pennies, her nickels and dimes
And the next thing she told me broke this heart of mine
"Buy me a daddy, he don't have to be new
Just as long as he loves me, any daddy will do
And we'll make him promise, daddy won't go away
Please buy me a daddy, let's go get one today
Broadminded I just don't understand
A broadminded narrowminded man a broadminded narrowminded man
Every night I catch you sleepin' with a smile on your face
And calling names that I don't even know
Dear the call of Pat or Gracy and drink down at Stacey's
It's making plans to see your girlies show
Broadminded...
[ guitar ]
Every time you take me dancin' where we haven't done before
Just to celebrate my night away from home
You start watchin' painted faces and flirt with the waitress
When we dance it just looks like dancin' alone
Broadminded...
[ guitar ]
Go on with your new love have a good good time
Take her out show her off fill her tall glass with wine
Live all you can I'll forgive you when the last thrill is gone
Just remember old faithful is waiting at home
Bright lights have you blinded for a long long time
Your rose colored world is a long way from mine
I'm just a teardrop from a break town and so all alone
Take your time when you wake up won't you please come on home
Come on home come on home never more will roam
I open wide my arms oh Lord it's all right so come on home
Come on home come on home come on home it's all right so come on home
(Dearly beloved we are gathered together in the presence of God and these witnesses
To join this man and this woman in the bonds of holy matrimony
Do you Tammy take this man George to be your lawfully wedded husband
To love and to cherish until death do you part)
I'll take this man and by him I'll stand I promise that we'll never part
To him I'll be true there'll be no one new from now till death do us part
(And do you George take this woman Tammy to be your lawfully wedded wife
To love and to cherish until death do you part)
Yes I'll take this woman she'll be mine forever and I'll love her with all of my heart
To have and to hold my love won't grow cold I promise till death do us part
We'll take each other from this day forward together in sickness or health
United with love we'll face life together if we're poor or if we have wealth
For better or worse you'll always come first and no one can keep us apart
Yes we take each other forsaking all others together till death do us part
(I now pronounce you man and wife)
If your sweetheart sends a letter of goodbye
It's no secret you'll feel better if you cry
When waking from a bad dream oh don't you sometimes think it's real
But it's only false emotions that you feel
If your heartaches seem to hang around too long
And your blues keep gettin' bluer with each song
Remember sunshine can be found behind a cloudy sky
So let your head down and go on and cry
When I'm worried and I can't sleep I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bank roll is gettin' small I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
I think about a nursery and I picture curly kids
And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds
If you worry and you can't sleep count your blessings instead of sheep
And you'll fall asleep counting my blessings
If you worry...
I'm not surprised to find you here in this old dim lit world
I'll bet you've held a thousand poor broken-hearted girls
You sound so sad you must have had your share of misery
But you're just a crying steel guitar so cry again for me
Cause while you're crying his mem'ry's dying
There's a special kind of sigh in the lonely way you cry
You express my feelings and my tears no one will see
So let you call blue lonely strings cry once again for me
I'll be here at this table again tomorrow night
Each time that I'm close to you I know I'll be all right
I loved him more than anything but it's over I can see
If you don't mind please steel guitar cry much again for me
Well we found a life together and it's a gonna last forever
Nothing can hurt me now cause you are mine
We put away all of our sadness we're walking every day with gladness
You and me together all the time
Well she wants to love me a little bit better it's okay I'm gonna let her
When he holds me I can feel he's hard giving love's true and real
Oh now we got a little bitty baby we're happy and we don't mean maybe
You and me together all the time
[ steel ]
Well we'll build a little house in the country and we'll go to church every Sunday
We got each other and we don't need a thing
We start every day with a sweet kiss and that's one thing we wouldn't miss
You and me together making life sweet
Well she wants to love me...
You and me together all the time
Well you thought I'd be waitin' up when you come home last night
No don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
Our little boy is four years old
and quite a little man
so we spell out the words we don't
want him to understand
like T-O-Y or maybe S-U-R-P-R-I-S-E
but the words we're hiding from him now
tear the heart right out of me,
our D-I-V-O-R-C-E becomes final today
me and little J-O-E
will be going away
I love you both
and this will be pure H-E- double L for me
oh I wish that we could stop this D-I-V-O-R-C-E
Watch him smile
he thinks its christmas
or his 5th birthday
and he thinks C-U-S-T-O-D-Y
spells fun or play
I spell out all the hurtin' words
and turn my head when I speak
'cos i can't spell away this hurt
thats dripping down my cheek
our D-I-V-O-R-C-E becomes final today
me and little J-O-E
will be going away
I love you both
and this will be pure H-E- double L for me
(Norro Wilson - Carmol Taylor - George Richey)
The love the I used to see
Whenever you looked at me,
Just ain't showing
I can tell something's wrong
Ind I know before long
You'll be going.
And baby your tender touch
The one I loved so much
Is not there anymore
Oh, I wish we could find
What we had one time
And love like before.
If it's a matter of pride
Then let's push it aside
And get together
And if I'd give to you love
like you want me to
Will it matter?
There's so much love in my heart
Like it's been from the start
And it's always begged for you
Now make one final try
If it don't work for you and I
Then I'll say goodbye.
Yes, I'll make one final stand
To hold more than I can
To the one I've loved so long
I'll make one final stand
With my heart and my hand
'Cause I love you right or wrong.
But if you choose to go
Then I'll want you to know
I've done everything I can
Though my life may be hell
Still I wish you well
I just love that good old gospel singing I'll Fly Away's my favorite song
I just love that good old time religion this old world has gone without it much too long
Oh how I love to sing and tell when they ring those golden bells
And I just can't stand in one place when they sing Amazing Grace
I just love that good old country preaching
This old world has gone without it much too long
Yes I love them good old fashioned gathering where all of God's children came to pray
And oh how I really miss those old brush arbors
How I wish we had more of these days today
Oh how I love to sing and tell...
Well, I look across my morning cup of coffee
And see an angel smiling back at me
And I think of how your loving seems to fit just like a glove
And your disposition suits me to a T
And nothing gives me greater satisfaction
Than knowing that you feel the way you do
'Cause it makes my life worth living and I get a thrill from giving
All my love to you and only you
You and me together we're a perfect match
In each other we have found a perfect catch
Like two ol' birds on the eggs of happiness knowin' they're gonna hatch
You and me together we're a perfect match
You know just what I need and when I need it
With you contentment it wasn't hard to find
And though we have our problems we let love and kindness solve 'em
You think that we could read each other's minds
Sometimes I think that we should start all over
I'll bet we wouldn't want to change a thing
Through the good times and the bad ones just a few real sad ones
We found happiness that only true love brings
You and me together
I've made many mistakes in my lifetime
The foolish things I've done have might been few
But the only thing I've ever done worth doing is all in love with you
I've wasted many a tear in my lifetime on foolish dreams that never could come true
But the only thing I've ever done worth doing is all in love with you
Because of you I changed my way of living because of you my lifetime changed a lot
The only thing worth having is worth giving the best of everything you've got
I've wasted many a day being lonely but now I know my lonely days are through
Cause the only thing I've ever done worth doing is all in love with you
Yes the only thing I've ever done worth doing is all in love with you
Reach - out - your - hand
And touch somebody
Together build a dream
To call your own
Reach out your-our arms
And hold somebody
You've got too much love to give
To be alone
The world has never-er been so cold and lo-onely
The sky has never-er been a dee-eeper blue
Just like you, there's someo-one just as lo-onely
And you know God made 'em special just for you
Reach out your-our hand
And touch somebody
Together build a dream
To call your own
Reach out your-our arms
And hold somebody
You've got too much love to give
To be alone
Hello, who's speaking? Mama, I didn't think it was you
I've had a hard time reaching you
Now mama, don't start crying, don't worry, I'm all right you see
You know, how he's mistreated me
If I'd stayed at home, what would people say?
After all that's happened it doesn't matter anyway
Mama, your little girl gets lonely in a big old town like this
I wish, I had my teddy bear to sleep with
But mama, how are you? Yes, I'll call you in a week or so
My time is up, I'll have to go
I follow angel but angels follow the sun I follow angel run angel run angel run
Go your way have your day right or wrong sing your song
But angel take me along but angel take me along
I need you angel and I'll follow you to the sun
I love you angel but run angel run angel run
Go your way have your day...

It was the third of June another sleepy dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton and my brother was bailin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And mama hollered at the back door y'all remember to wipe your feet
And then she said I got the news this mornin' from Choctaw Wridge
Today Billie Joe McAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
Papa said to Mama as he passed around the black eyed peas
"Well Billie Joe never had a lick of sense, pass the biscuits please"
There's five more acres in the lower forty I got to plow
And mama said it was a shame about Billie Joe anyhow
Seems like nothing ever comes to no good upon Choctaw Wridge
And now Billie Joe McAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
Brother said he recollected when he and Tom and Billie Joe
Put a frog down my back at the Carroll County picture show
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church last Sunday night
I'll have another piece of apple pie, you know it don't seem right
I saw him at the sawmill yesterday upon Choctaw Wridge
And now you tell me Billie Joe has jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
Mama said to me child what's happened to your appetite
Well I've been cookin' all mornin' and you haven't touched a single bite
That nice young preacher brother Tailor dropped by today
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday oh by the way
He said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you upon Choctaw Wridge
She and Billie Joe was throwin' somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge
One year has come and gone since we heard the news about Billie Joe
Brother married Becky Thompson and they bought a store in Tupelo
There was virus goin' round papa caught it and he died last spring
And now mama doesn't seem to want to do much of anything
And me I spent a lot of time pickin' flowers upon Choctaw Wridge
Some folks live like a king think they have everything
With great riches and treasures untold
Well we don't tell what they do but when our day is through
We've got love that would never grow cold
Never grow cold never grow cold our love will never grow cold
Never grow cold it will never grow cold our love will never grow cold
When my life here is through when they take me from you
When our earthly possessions are sold
They can have what we own still for me things are gone
We've got love that would never grow cold
Never grow cold...
Well here I sit there you go again I've taken as much of this as I can stand
All I ever hear is what you're gonna do but what I want most I never get from you
I need a man to stay at home with me a man that'll give me love and the kind I need
You ain't gonna keep on treatin' me like you do
So listen close it's the last time I tell you
Well you can't hang on to me just a lookin' on
You gotta give a woman love that's strong
You gotta kiss me in the mornin' a squeeze me at night
Do a good job make everything all right
You gotta love me strong and love me long you'll find out that your baby's goin' wrong
If you got any feelin' for this woman at home you can't hang on lookin' on
[ guitar ]
Well you can't hang on to me...
Yes if you got any feelin' for this woman at home you can't hang on lookin' on
I put my little girl to bed with teardrops in her eyes
All day I've tried to comfort her and louder were her cries
I left her there to say her prayers and stepped outside the door
The prayer I heard was one I knew I'd never heard before
Please have my mommy ask my daddy to come home
Sometimes I try and get my way and mommy's so alone
She told me once that when I'm right I never should give in
So if at first I don't succeed I'll cry cry again
I know our little girl is right and we're both in the wrong
And so I've called you up tonight to ask you please come home
I can't go on or stand for long the way she cries today
And I can't go to sleep tonight because I heard her pray
Please have my mommy...
Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You'll have bad times, and he'll have good times
Doin' things that you don't understand
But if you love him, you'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him, oh be proud of him
'Cause after all he's just a man.
Stand by your man, give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely.
Stand by your man, and show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can.
Stand by your man.
Stand by your man, and show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can.
THE LOVIN' KIND
Writers Billy Sherrill, Norro Wilson, Emily Mitchell
Copyright 1970
Seems every time you come home that you never see
These lovin' arms that always wait so true
Your wonderin's like a fave you're always on the run
To sip the wine with women that don't love you
I guess it's been the romance that keeps your heart from longing
And keeps it on your mind that I'm the lovin' kind
I'm the lovin' kind
They can't feel like I feel when they're holdin' you
And way down deep I think you know I've tried
And they can't love like I love so I'll keep hanging on
And forget my part to keep you satisfied
ONE HAPPY CHRISTMAS
Writer Carmol Taylor
Copyright 1970
I heard the doorbell ringing as the clock was striking three
I though it could be Santa Claus and this is Christmas Eve
I hurried to the door to find out what was going on
There you stood smiling telling me that you come home
It's gonna be one happy Christmas one happy Christmas
You and me and all the children together round the tree
It's gonna be one happy Christmas one happy Christmas
Old Santa did remember and he brought you on to me
It's gonna be one happy Christmas...
Tomorrow you'll reach out and take my hand
And on my finger place a golden band
And somewhere on the other side of town
She'll stand beside you in her brand new wedding gown
You love her, I love him but here we are
The music's soft, the lights are dim
Let's get together one last time
Tonight's the night, it'll be alright
You can hold me tight till the morning light
She loves you and he loves me
Tomorrow night just won't be right, we won't be free
Let's get together one last time
'Cause we can't break the vows we'll make
So for old time's sake I'm yours to take
Look at me 'cos I might be,
The very last one that you'll ever see.
Someday you may wake up and find,
I'm one of a kind.
Now, don't look back once you're free,
There'll be nothing left to see.
And I'll be just a memory,
But keep this in mind.
I'm one of a kind
I wish you love as true as mine,
May you find happiness this time.
If old memories ever cloud your mind,
I wish you sunshine.
So, I'll drink this toast to you,
Go and find who means the most to you.
But some night when she's lying close to you,
I'll ease through your mind.
I'm one of a kind.
I'll ease through your mind.
George Jones & Tammie Wynette
It never crossed my miind that we'd end up like this tonight
We were sitting there exchangin' glances
It started with a smile, lights were low and we talked awhile
And a drink or two and a few slow dances
Now here we are caught up in this midnight romance
It might be wrong by mormin' light but tonight we'll take our chances
We're headed right in the wrong direction
But the wrong direction's sure feelin' right
We're headed right in the wrong direction
We're not holding back, we're holding on to love tonight.
--- Instrumental ---
There stacking up the chairs, anticipation in the air
Where love leads tonight you and I will follow
With no future and no past who knows if love will last
For it's tonight that's on our mind and not tomorrow
Now here we are caught up in this midnight romance
It might be wrong by mormin' light but tonight we'll take our chances
We're headed right in the wrong direction
But the wrong direction's sure feelin' right
We're headed right in the wrong direction
We're not holding back, we're holding on to love tonight.
I know how you love me you tell me all the time that you'll love me as long as you live
You tell me you want me and ask well I'll be yours
Although you know that I'm not mine to give
I'm not mine to give to you so please let's not pretend
All the things you want you know are here
You want me just for yourself but you know this must end
No matter how I feel that how it is
[ piano ]
If I'd met you sooner things might not be the same
But life is one thing you just can't relive
Please go on without me and find someone to love
It can't be me cause I'm not mine to give
No it can't be me cause I'm not mine to give
I've tried with all my mind
But still don't understand why we ever let it get so out of hand
My arms are reaching out and holding on tight
To what it always felt so right
It's hard to figure out the answers to the questions
Wind blow the light as you go on a separate direction
The world is breaking into two
And my heart is turning blue
And you still don't get it, do you, do you
I thought we had all the love to go with for the long run
So before the damage is done
Let's start back over as one
Lights out when every evening used to get so hot
Now we got? that we forgot
How to lock the world away and just get lost in where you're in where I begin
Love is strong but it's so easy to divide
Support I think about
When everything right seems to go wrong
Your heart waits to sing but it can't find a song
When it seems that the world has left yoy behind keep me in mind
When you think that life is just passing you by
You look but you can't find a reason to try
When it seems that a friend is so hard to find keep me in mind
Keep me in mind cause I'll never stop loving you
And as long as I live I'll have love to give and I'll give it all to you just you
When the dreams that you've chased have all gotten away
And you stand at the end of a long lonely day
You'll never be far from these arms of mine keep me in
When the dreams that you've chased...
Keep me in mind
It was so good when he loved you
I could tell by the sunshine on your face
I know he bought you pretty things
I know he made your world a happy place
And I remember when she loved you
And in those days you had someone to care
And through your long and lonely nights
When you needed someone, she was there
Ah, but lately you're not smiling
And I don't see that sunshine like before
I know you've tried to make it work
But I don't think he loves you anymore
And I know she must have hurt you
'Cause I've seen the tears, you try so hard to hide
But if we had each other
It might just stop this hurt we have inside
Change to me and keep the change
And I won't do you like he did
And I won't hurt you like she did
Change to me and keep the change
And we'll never need another
Once we have each other
Kids say the darndest things
Have you ever listened close to the games they play
Or the little songs they sing
Last night dressed up in a high heel shoes
And wearing my old hat
My four year old said
"I wanna divorce", Now where did she hear that
Kids say the darndest things
Have you ever listened close to the games they play
Or the little songs they sing
Last night as I watched TV
One rushed through the door
Mommy daddy's telling someone on the phone
"Don't you call me here no more"
Kids say the darndest things
Have you ever listened close to the games they play
Or the little songs they sing
Bet my daddy can whip your daddy
But daddy's never home
And I think mommy's worried 'bout him
'Cause she cried all night long
Kids say the darndest things
Have you ever listened close to the games they play
Or the little songs they sing
You never know what they learn at school
Or what they're thinking of
My first grader just said a four letter word
And it sure wasn't love
Kids say the darndest things
Have you ever listened close to the games they play
Or the little songs they sing
Tonight at nine we get married
Friends all say it's a shame and disgrace
That he's loved every woman in Jackson
But Jackson ain't a very big place
Tomorrow we'll go walking
I'll count each one with a tear on her face
Then I'll know just how many think I'm lucky
'Cause Jackson ain't a very big place
Yes, Jackson is a mighty small town
Where gossips and rumors go round
But the gossips are the ones he turned down
And Jackson ain't a very big town
Yes, Jackson is a mighty small town
Where gossips and rumors go round
But the gossips are the ones he turned down
See our baby on the swing hear her there hear her sing
Knowing that she came from me fills my heart with joy to be a woman
See her daddy with our child hear his laughter see him smile
Sharin' all his love with me fills my heart with joy to be a woman
I thank God each and every night for he's given me the right
To know love to give love and to be loved
And with every passing day my love grows strong in every way
And I found the joy of being a woman
See our baby on the swing...
To be a woman to be a woman to be a woman
I am weak but Thou art strong Jesus keep me from all wrong
I'll be satisfied as long as I walk let me walk close to Thee
Just a closer walk with Thee grant it Jesus is my plea
Daily walking close to Thee oh let it be dear Lord let it be
When my feeble life is o'er time for me will be no more
Guide me gently safely o'er to Thy kingdom shores to Thy shores
Just a closer walk with Thee...
Just a closer walk with Thee...
I am weak but Thou art strong Jesus keep me from all wrong
I'll go out at night to old familiar places
Look around and maybe see a friend or two
And your image won't be there in all their faces
I won't fall apart if they should mention you
I won't spend my time forgetting or forgiving
Or lie awake and long for you the whole night through
I may even find a reason to be living
Just as soon as I get over loving you
I'll be in somebody's arms when I awaken to hold me
Just the way you used to do
I won't think about the one whose place he's taken
Just as soon as I get over loving you
I'll live every day for you and I'll breathe every breath for you
So if I'm mean and make you blue, it's my way of loving you
If I say that you're untrue and it breaks your heart in two
I can't help the things I do, it's my way of loving you
Try to understand my love, look into my heart
Don't you know I'd want to die if we ever part
All my life I'm gonna love you so, there may be times it may not show
That my love for you is true, it's my way of loving you
If I say that you're untrue and it breaks your heart in two
I can't help the things I do, it's my way of loving you
It's so sweet to love you darling love we thought we'd never find
All the happiness you give me just to know your love is mine
Love is such a happy feeling one can feel love through and through
When together there is nothing that can bother me and you
It's so sweet...
Nothing tempts our love to woman for we love too much to stray
Hold my hand if you should weaken love grows stronger day by day
I know I'd stand in line until you think you have the time to spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance I know
That there's a chance you won't be leaving with me
And afterwards we'd drop into a quiet little place to have a drink or two
And then I'd go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like I love you
I can see it in your eyes that you despise the same old lies you heard the night before
And though it's just a line to you for me it's true and never seemed so right before
I practice everyday to find some clever lines to say to make the meaning come true
But then I think I'll wait until the evening's gettin' late and I'm alone with you
The time is right your perfume fills my head
The stars get red and all the night's so blue
And then I'd go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like I love you
[ guitar ]
The time is right...
A-hamazi-i-ing Grace, ho-ow swee-eet the-e sound
That saved a-a wretch li-ike me-ee
I-I once wa-as lost, oh but now I'm fou-ound
Was blind, but now I-I see
Well some glad mornin' when this life is o'er, I-I'll fly away-hay
To a home on God's celestial shore, I'll fly away-hay I'll fly away, Oh Glory, I'll fly away-ay
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by, I-I'll fly away-ay
Just a few more weary days and the-en, I-I'll fly away-hay
To a home where joy shall never end, I-I'll fly away-hay
I'll fly away, Oh Glory, I'll fly away-ay
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by, I'll fly away-ay
Will the circle be unbroken (be unbroken)Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye (bye and bye)There's a better home a-wai-aiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
I was standin' by my window On a cold and cloudy day-ay
When I saw that hearse come ro-o-o-olling For to carry my mother away-ay
Oh, Will the circle be unbroken (be unbroken)Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye (bye and bye)There's a better home a-wai-ai-aiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky (hit it girl)I saw the li-ight, I saw the li-ight, No more the darkness, no more the night
Now I'm so happy, no sorrow in sight, Praise the Lor-ord, I saw the light
I saw the li-ight, I saw the li-ight, No more the darkness, no more the night
Now I'm so happy, no sorrow in sight, Praise the Lor-ord, I saw the light
I'll need time to get You off my mind
And I may sometimes bother You
Try to be in touch with You
Even ask too much of You, from time to time
Now and then
Lord, You know I'll need a friend
And 'till I get used to losing You
Let me keep on using You
'Til I can make it on my own
I'll get by, but no matter how I try
There'll be times that You'll know I'll call
Chances are my tears will fall
And I'll have no pride at all, from time to time
But they say, oh, there'll be a brighter day
That's all I mean to do
'Til I can make it on my own
Surely someday I'll look up and see the morning sun
Without another lonely night behind me
Then I'll know I'm over You and all my cryin's done
No more hurtin' memories can find me
But 'til then
Lord, You know I'm gonna need a friend
'Til I get used to losing You
Let me keep on using You
'Til I can make it on my own
I'll never let you see
The way my broken heart is hurtin' me
I've got my pride and I know how to hide
All the sorrow and pain
I'll do my cryin' in the rain.
If I wait for cloudy skies
You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
You'll never know that I still love you so
Though the heartaches remain
I'll do my cryin' in the rain.
Rain drops fallin' from heaven
Will never wash away my misery
But since were not together
I'll wait for stormy weather
To hide these tears I hope you'll never see.
Some day when my cryin's done
I'm gonna wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool but till then darling
You'll never see me complain
I'll do my cryin' in the rain.
I'll do my cryin' in the rain.
(George Jones - Tammy Wynette)
I'll keep them here beside me, I won't let them follow you
It's not the first, I'm deaf and left behind
And if they both stay busy they've got a job to do
They must forget you then they will in time.
They don't ask any questions but they sometimes reach for you
And they're both so tired each night at sleepy time
They lay soft still beside me, they're really missing you
They must forget you these two arms of mine.
These two arms of mine are always empty
and they don't know the meaning of time
They keep holding on to old mem'ries
They must forget you these two arms of mine.
I can tell that somewhere there's someone
You love more than me
Someone you love more than me
And it hurts to say it, but you have the right
To be free
I know, that's the way it should be
But I'm too far gnoe
Too far gone
I guess I've loved you too much
For too long
And I'm too far gone
If ever your new love should hurt you
Or make you feel blue
Hurt you, or make you feel blue
Remember, your old love will still be around
Lovin' you
I'll be around, lovin' you
'Cause I'm too far gone
Too far gone
I guess I've loved you too much
For too long
This time I almost made it came so close to saying no
I almost found the words to make you go
This time I almost made it almost pushed you away
But my heart cried out begging you to stay
Now I'm laying here beside you cryin' softly
Cause I know you're going home to her
Cause you belong to her and you go home to her
I know you steal away I know there'll be another day
That you'll come back again
I might as well just hang it up
There's no use hanging on
If I felt that we could work things out
I'd stay and talk it over
But I can say that love and feeling's gone
Love and feeling's gone
Your memory brings me right back here
Your silence makes me leave in tears
So I might as well just hang it up
There's no use hanging on
Hanging on would only bring me sorrow
So I'll just say goodbye, then I'll be gone
I've grown [Incomprehensible] to have you near
I don't know what on earth I'll do
But I might as well just hang it up
There's no use hanging on
Hanging on would only bring me sorrow
So I'll just say goodbye, then I'll be gone
I've loved you for a long, long time
I guess you'll never leave my mind
But I might as well just hang it up
There's no use hanging on
I might as well just hang it up
PLAYIN' AROUND WITH LOVE
Writer Billy Sherrill
Copyright 1970
Not too long ago you said to me
I believe it's time you set me free
Cause I found a woman who knows how to love me right
And she don't mind if I lay out all night
And you said hallelujah this woman sure gets to ya
I fin'lly found peace of mind
Singin' hallelujah you don't know what good it'll do ya
Playin' around with love'll do it everytime
But then one day she felt like movin' on
One goodbye and you were all alone
And it's funny I could almost hear the sound
When your whole world came tumbling to the ground
And I said hallelujah that woman socked it to ya
Just walked away and blew your mind
Singin' hallelujah you got what's comin' to ya
Playin' around with love'll do it everytime
But it seems that I'm not too satisfied
With the brand new love that's walking by my side
Cause already there's an old love on my mind
It came upon the midnight clear
That glorious song of old
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold
Peace on the earth goodwill to men
From heaven's all gracious King
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing
For low the days are hastening on
By prophets [Incomprehensible] foretold
When with the ever circling years
Come 'round the age of gold
When peace shall over all the earth
It's ancient splendors fling
And the whole world give back the song
Love has come our way before
But this time I am sure we just can't go wrong
'Cause love has never felt so real
The way you've made me feel right here in your arms
When I look into your eyes I still can see that far
We both thought it was gone
So give me one more chance to take
What's left over I'll make it right here in your arms
'Cause in your arms is right where I belong
Loving you forever from now on
One more chance is all we need
Arms wouldn't you like to hold her
Don't you know she'd feel so warm right next to you
Lips wouldn't you like to kiss her or would you tell her lies the way you used to do
But it's all over over all except the loneliness that gets to you somehow
Over over might as well admit that it's all over now
Eyes wouldn't you like just to see him walk through that door and end this lonely night
Heart wouldn't you like to start living
And know for sure that things would turn out right
But it's all over over...
Bonnie was a waitress in a small cafe Clyde Barrow was a rounder that took her away
They both robbed and killed until both loved and died
So goes the legend of Bonnie and Clyde
The poem that she wrote of the life that they led
Told of the lawmen left dying or dead
Some say that Clyde made her life a shame
But the legend made Bonnie the head of the game
The rampage grew wilder with each passing day
The odds growing smaller with each get-a-way
With the end growing closer the harder they fought
With blood on their hands they were bound to get caught
[ guitar ]
They drove back from town on one bright summer day
When a man they be-friended stopped out in the way
With no thought of dying they pulled to the side
But death lay there waiting for Bonnie and Clyde
Two years of running was ended that day for robbing and killing they both had to pay
But we'll always remember how they lived and died
So goes the legend of Bonnie and Clyde (Bonnie and Clyde) Bonnie and Clyde
Kiss away kiss away guess that's all that's left to say
Please come back and kiss these tears away
Smile again let me smile again make this life worth live again
Please come back and kiss these tears away
Only you can change these sad and blue days
Only you can make them 'I love you' days
Kiss away kiss away still there's nothing left to say
Please come back and kiss these tears away
Only you can change these sad and blue days
Only you can make them 'I love you' days
Kiss away kiss away still there's nothing left to say
I'm looking for that Lonely Street I've got a sad sad tale to tell
I need a place to go and weep where's this place called Lonely Street
A place where there's just loneliness where dim lights bring forgetfulness
Where broken dreams and mem'ries meet where's this place called Lonely Street
Perhaps upon that Lonely Street there's someone such as I
Who came to bury broken dreams and watch an old love die
Where I could find that Lonely Street where dim lights bring forgetfulness
Where broken dreams and mem'ries meet where's this place called Lonely Street
Where's this place called Lonely Street
A conversation caught my ear I wish I hadn't heard
My little boy said listen spot but don't you bark a word
Daddy's got a girl friend but he can't let mommy know
And night spot is when he's not here I bet that's where he goes
But listen spot I saw him wash the lipstick from his shirt
Then he told mom the car broke down and it was grease and dirt
But only lips can make red prints shake like an engine's blow
But listen spot that can't tell mom he don't want her to know
[ steel ]
So listen spot don't even bark it's time we got to sleep
We said our prayers and we prayed hard for daddy not to cheat
Let's play like it's a bond we found and there it is tonight
You say that you want me
Yes, I really want you
Well, how much do you want me?
Well, I want you as much as her child wants its mother
Oh, that's how much I want you
And you say that you need me
Yes, I really need you
Well, how much do you need me?
Oh, tell me how much can her man need a woman?
Well, that's how much I need you
Then what will you give me?
What will I give you?
Yes, what will give you me?
A garden of love that will live on forever
Oh, that's what I will give you
Then let's build a world together
One world, safe, together
And no matter what happens
I'll love you forever
And I'll give you love
And I'll give you love
(Earl Montgomery - Sue Richards)
Let's all go down to the river
There's a man who's walking on the water
Come along with me I want to see
This man walking on the water.
Well, he can raise the dead from the grave
Change the water and turn it into wine
And he can make the lame walk
He can make the donkey talk.
And open up the eyes of the blind
Oh, Let's all go down to the river
There's a man who's walking on the water
Come along with me I want to see
This man walking on the water.
--- Instrumental ---
Jesus is the man at the river
And he's washing people's sins away
He can save the soul if you give him control
Be ready for that judgement day.
Oh, Let's all go down to the river
There's a man who's walking on the water
Come along with me I want to see
This man walking on the water.
Oh, Let's all go down to the river
There's a man who's walking on the water
Come along with me I want to see
This man walking on the water.
Let's all go down to the river
There's a man who's walking on the water
Come along with me I want to see
(Carmol Taylor - Quinton Claunch)
George Jones & Tammy Wynette
I work hard and I work over time
And I'm still deep in debt
I tell myself I'll get ahead
But I haven't done it yet.
Sometimes I think of giving up
Leave you, pack up and go
But I love you for your sweet lips
And in your arms I know.
Lovin' you is worth it
Worth the heartbreak each day
We've come this far together
So it's together all the way.
I'll admit I'd like to have a house
New car and fancy clothes
Dress up, go out with you
To places where we used to go.
And I get lonely even though
You do your best for me
And when you tell me I love you
And kiss me I can see.
Lovin' you is worth it
Worth the heartbreak each day
We've come this far together
So it's together all the way.
We've come this far together
I know this house is the finest one around and we are both respected in our town
But our friends don't know the truth when they drop by
That our house is such a lovely place to cry
I keep my yard cut as close as it can be there's no litter laying round for one to see
And I know someday I'll tell this place goodbye
But till then it's sure a lovely place to cry
You don't need lonely things around you when you have no love left in you
And when you're already dead before you die
But someday someone will buy this place and be happy if they'll try
But for us it's been a lovely place to cry yes for us it's been a lovely place to cry
If you think it's hard in this day and time
To hold your man like I've been holding mine
There's no secret just some little things to do
It worked for me and it's bound to work for you
A lovin' smile will start his day out right
A goodbye kiss will bring him home at night
Reach out to him when he needs a helping hand
Touch him gently so he'll know you understand
Be proud of him when you know he's done his best
Let him know you think he's better than the rest
If you wanna hold your man this is the way
Love him more today than you did yesterday
Love's the answer, love's the answer
Be proud of him when you know he's done his best
Let him know you think he's better than the rest
If you wanna hold your man this is the way
All alone here am I so lonely I could cry cause I'm longing to hold you again
Missing you is all I do I dream the whole day through
And I'm longing to hold you again
The world is cold the world is grey you took the sunshine away
You'll never know how empty my arms have been
Till once more you're close to me as close as we can be
I'll be longing to hold you again
[ piano ]
Till once more you're close to me...
Love just walked on down the road
I guess it had to be
Wish he wouldn't walk so slow
Too much time to see
All that love leaving me
It's easy come and easy go
That's all he knows
So much sunshine in his smile
For a while he made my love the song
Lord he'd sing to me
Oh, he'd cling to me
And I loved him so
Easy come and easy go
Love just walked on with my soul
Oh, he set me free
Now the best has come and gone
At least it was to me
And all that love is leaving me
Easy come and easy go
That's all he knows
So much sunshine in his smile
For a while he made my love the song
Lord he'd dream with me
Whispered things to me
Showed me all there was to show
Easy come and easy go
Love just walked on down the road
I guess it had to be
Wish he wouldn't walk so slow
Too much time to see
You can steal me from hell if you want to
I'd go with you if you only ask me
These chains that he has tied to me could be broken easily
If you only knew that you could steal me
I can tell just by watching you, you want me
And you don't know that I've been watching you
That's a shame for if we live forever
We may never love together
All because you don't know you can steal me
Am I wrong for feeling this way?
My love for you is greater each day
So in other words, I'm saying to you, take me from him if you want to
I can't reveal that I want you to steal me
You can steal me from him, so why don't you?
I know you don't know how much I love you
I would meet you more than halfway
You must take the first step my way
I'll be waiting when you try to steal me
Am I wrong for feeling this way?
My love for you is greater each day
So in other words, I'm saying to you, take me from him if you want to
I can't reveal that I want you to steal me

I'm safe 'cause your love lifts me to a higher ground
(Higher ground)
To a higher ground.
Well, I have sat alone at night
And cried myself to sleep
And I have prayed my soul to take
When sorrow seems so deep.
But darkness turns so quickly
To the light of day
When someone special came along
And carried me away.
Chorus:
You lift me up when I get down
When I'm lost you turn me around
Wind and rain can't wash away
The peace you give to me.
And in a sea of trouble
I know that I won't drown
I'm safe 'cause your love
Lifts me to a higher ground (higher ground)
To a higher ground.
Troubled times may bring me down
And drive me to my knees
And I am blinded by despair
And cannot see.
But you take a hold
And carry me again
Then I know I'll never break
Though I sometimes bend.
You lift me up when I get down
When I'm lost you turn me around
Wind and rain can't wash away
The peace you give to me.
And in a sea of trouble
I know that I won't drown
I'm safe 'cause your love
Lifts me to a higher ground (higher ground)
To a higher ground.
--- Instrumental ---
You lift me up when I get down
When I'm lost you turn me around
Wind and rain can't wash away
The peace you give to me.
And in a sea of trouble
I know that I won't drown
I'm safe 'cause your love
Lifts me to a higher ground.
You lift me up when I get down
When I'm lost you turn me around
Wind and rain can't wash away
The peace you give to me.
An' in a sea of trouble
I know that I won't drown
I'm safe 'cause your love lifts me to a higher ground
When you left
I thought that I-I would soo-oon get o-over you
Even told myself
That I-I would find somebody too
Time and tears
Have come and go-one but not your me-emory
But I'll be-ee o-over you
When the grass grows o-over-er me
Yes I'll be over you
When you're standing o-over me
And as you look down
At the cold cold ground I'm slee-eepin' i-in
Don't expect to hear me say-ay
That I'll still love you then
For I'll be o-over you
When the grass grows o-over-er me
Yes I'll be o-over you
There's gonna be a homecoming there's gonna be a lotta good times from now on
It's been a long time coming too long coming
And I just can't wait to get him all alone then I'll tell my baby welcome home
Kids get up and wash your faces comb your hair put on your Sunday smile
Cause late last night I talked to your daddy
And he's gonna be drivin' up in a little while
Let's all be sure make him welcome don't forget to make him feel at home
Love him all you can till after dinner cause mama's gonna love him all night long
There's gonna be a homecoming there's gonna be a lotta good times from now on
It's been a long time coming too long coming
It should be hard to break up but it's gonna feel good to make up
And I just can't wait to get him all alone then I'll tell my baby welcome home
See the tree how big it's grown but that it hasn't been too long it wasn't big
You laughed at me and I got mad the first day that I planted it was just a twig
Then the first snow came and I ran out to brush the snow away so it wouldn't die
Came runnin' in all excited slipped and almost hurt myself and you laughed till you cried
Yes you were always young at heart kinda dumb and kinda smart and I loved you so
You surprised me with a puppy kept me up all Christmas Eve two years ago
And you could sure embarrass me when you came home from working late
Cause you would know
That I'd been all alone and cryin' over some sad and lonely late late show
And honey I miss you too and I know you're being good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could
I wrecked the car and I was sad and so afraid that you'd be mad but what the heck
All afternoon you stormed around but I knew how to cool you down I hugged your neck
You came home unexpectedly and caught me crying needlessly in the middle of the day
And it was in the early spring when flowers bloom and robins sing I went away
And honey I miss you too and I know you're being good
And I'd love to be with you if only I could
One day you were not at home while I was there and all alone the angels came
Guess you thought it strange of me to live the way I did that day it was a shame
But now your laughter just began and even though you miss me hon you must go on
And when the snow fly passes overhead and cries down on my flower bed
You know you're not alone
See the tree how big it's grown but that it hasn't been too long it wasn't big
If you can find it in your heart to just forgive
I'll come back and live the way you wanted me to live
All I want is just to be your girl
Please come and get me and take me to your world
Take me to your world away from barrooms filled with smoke
Where I won't have to serve a drink or hear another dirty joke
All I want is just to be your girl
Please come and get me and take me to your world
[ organ - piano ]
Take me to your world make me forget the things I've heard
Where people say I love you and love is not a dirty word
All I want is just to be your girl
Please come and get me and take me to your world
Fanny's washing the clothes, I know, think I'll give Mary Sue a call
I've cleaned the house there's nothing left to do
Gonna be another lonely night 'cause he's not here to hold me tight
The kids are on bed, my day is through
Sometimes I wonder if he still loves me, when it's come
He never fails to change my mind the minute, he gets home
That's when I feel it, his love the most
That's when he holds me, holds me so close
That's when I know it because he shows it, how much he loves me
Sometimes I wonder [unverified]
(Billy Sherrill, Jenny Strickland, Carmol Taylor)
(man speaks):
Dearly beloved, we are gathered together,
In the presence of God, and these witnesses,
To join this man and this woman in the bonds,
Of holy matrimony
Do you Tammy, take this man, George
To be your lawfully wedded husband,
To love and to cherish until death do you part?
(T.W.) sings:
I'll take this man and by him I'll stand
I promise that we'll never part
To him, I'll be true
There'll be no one new
>From now, till death do us part
(man speaks)
And do you, George, take this woman, Tammy
To be your lawfully wedded wife,
To love and to cherish, until death do you part?
(G.J.)
Yes I'll take this woman
She'll be mine forever
And I'll love her, with all of my heart
To have and to hold
My love won't grow cold
I promise, till death do us part
(both sing)
We'll take each other
>From this day forward
Together, in sickness or health
United with love
We'll face life together
If we're poor or if we have wealth
For better or worst
You'll always come first
And no one can keep us apart
Yes, we take each other
Forsaking all others
Together, till death do us part
(man speaks)
I hear footsteps slowly walking as they gently walk across a lonely floor
And a voice that's softly saying darling this will be goodbye forever more
There goes my reason for living there goes the one of my dreams
There goes my only possesion there goes my everything
[ steel ]
As my mem'ry turns back the pages I can see the happy years we had before
And the love that kept this cold heart beating
Has been shattered by the closing of a door
There goes my reason for living...
I can't thank you enough
For the happiness we've shared
I've never known a day
That sunshine wasn't there
I can't begin to tell you
The joy you bring to me
And as long as we're together
What more could there ever be?
'Cause there's power, power, power in our love
It's so strong that it controls us everyday
Yes, there's power, power, power in our love
And together we love living life this way
There is no challenge in this world
That we can't meet, today
For I've got you beside me
Hand in hand all the way
And when I go to sleep tonight
So satisfied, within
I know that when the morning comes
I'll be in love again
'Cause there's power, power, power in our love
It's so strong that it controls us everyday
Yes, there's power, power, power in our love
And together we love living life this way
I'm up every morning by six knowing I could have slept until ten
But I like to bring him his coffee and wake him with a warm kiss or two
Start his day off right and when I see him tonight
There'll be more things for him that I love to do
I can tell when his day has been troubled so I love all his worries away
I lay down by his side and console him and remind him our troubles are few
Then at down start his day in my own special way
There's so many things for him that I love to do
It's not things I have to do just little things I wanna do
It's not things he asks of me just little things he least expects of me
Because of laughing that I get from him when his day is through
There'll always be things for him that I love to do
I'll just keep on falling in love till I get it right
Right now I'm like a wounded bird hungry for the sky
But if I try my wings and try long enough I'm bound to learn to fly
So I'll just keep on falling in love till I get it right
My door to love has opened up more times than in
I'm either fool or wise enough to open it again
Cause I'll never know what's beyond that mountain till I reach the other side
So I'll just keep on falling in love till I get it right
If practice makes perfect then I'm near bout as perfect as I'll ever be in my life
So I'll just keep on falling in love till I get it right
Don't the sun feel warm today don't our lives feel warm today
We have true love to be proud of
And we both understand it all and neither one demands it all
Cause we know how it feels to live on love
Don't the birds sing a lovely song don't our hearts sing a lovely song
There's only the good things to be thinking of
There's no trouble to be found strong enough to turn our world around
Cause we know how it feels to live on love
Yes we know how it feels just to wake up in the morning and be together every day
And to know we've been as close as two hearts could ever be
And there's more love on its way till it come to stay
Don't the wind feel good today and don't our smile look good on our face
Cause we know how it feels to live on love
Yes we know how it feels to live on love
I'll share my world with you everything that I own
My earthly possessions there's no good if I'm alone
Let me bring you the sunshine when it's fresh with morning dew
Can't you see that I'm waiting to share my world with you
I'll share my world with you if you'll be mine alone
I'll give you a new heart you're the only love it's known
Let me give you my two arms they'll be happy if you do
Can't you see they are waiting to share my world with you
[ steel ]
I'll share my world with you everything that you'll see
Divide all the memories one for you and one for me
Let me give you my two lips they'll be smiling if you do
I'll take my chances with you now and forever with you
There may be times you hurt me as only you can do
But I'll take my chances with you
I'll do my dreaming with you dreaming together with you
There may be times it seems our dreams won't come true
But I'll take my chances with you
[ guitar ]
There may be times it seems our dreams won't come true
But I'll take my chances with you I'll take my chances with you
Accidentally in your arms
And that's all it took
Knowing how you want
And need me with just one look
To leave you now is something
You should know that I can't do
I stayed long enough
To fall in love with you
Long enough to know that
What I feel won't go away
Just lookin' won't be near
Enough after today
Everything I need is everything
I see in you
I stayed long enough
To fall in love with you
Everything I need is everything
I see in you
I stayed long enough
To fall in love with you
I stayed just long enough
There lives a little boy in the house next door to me
And as usual his mommy was gone
So he came over this morning and sat down next to me
And asked why does mommy leave me alone
But he'll find out someday why his mommy stays away
And why a woman needs arms to hold her tight
And that she would stay at home and not leave him all alone
If his daddy didn't stay away at night
He said I wish I had a mommy like you just like you
To hold me in her arms the way you do
When I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep
And I ask for a mommy like you
Though a tear fell from his eye he was trying not to cry
I said don't worry everything will be all right
So you just wait and see and I held him close to me
Just like I held his daddy last night
He said I wish...
I Don't Wanna Play House
(Billy Sherrill/Glenn Sutton)
Today I sat alone at the window
And I watched our little girl outside at play
With the little boy next door like so many times before
But something didn't seem quite right today
So I went outside to see what they were doing
And then the teardrops made my eyes grow dim
'Cause I heard him name a game and I hung my head in shame
When I heard our little girl say to him.
I don't wanna play house; I know it can't be fun
I've watched mommy and daddy
And if that's the way it's done
I don't wanna play house; It makes my mommy cry
'Cause when she played house
My daddy said good-bye.
I don't wanna play house; I know it can't be fun
I've watched mommy and daddy
And if that's the way it's done
I don't wanna play house; It makes my mommy cry
'Cause when she played house
My daddy said good-bye.
Every day when you come home I meet you at the door
And every night your kisses leave me wanting so much more
I reach for you and hold you like nobody else can do
You know I'm yours I hope you love me too
Cause I know you need me I know you want me
And I hope you love me and always told me so
I look up into your eyes and suddenly get weak
And I can always read your mind before you even speak
I touch you and without a doubt you'll know my love is real
I wish I'd knew exactly how you feel
Cause I know you need me...

Take me, take me to your darkest room
Close every window and bolt every door
The very first moment I heard your voice
I'd be in darkness no more
Take me to your most barren desert
A thousand miles from the nearest sea
The very moment I saw your smile
It would be like heaven to me
There's not any mountain to rugged to climb
No desert too barren to cross
Darlin', if you would just show a sign
Of love, I could bear with all lossTake me to Siberia
And the coldest weather of the winter time
And it would be just like spring in California
As long as I knew you were mine
Yes, it would be just like spring in California
As long as I knew you were mine
Take me, take me
I believe for every drop of rain that falls
A flower grows
I believe that somewhere in the darkest night
A candle glows
I believe for every one
Who goes astray
Someone will come
To show the way
I believe, I believe
I believe above the storm the smallest prayer
Will still be heard
I believe that someone in the great somewhere
Hears every word
Every time I hear
A new born baby cry
I touch a leaf, I see the sky
Then I know why
I believe
Every time I hear
A new born baby cry
I touch a leaf, I see the sky
Then I know why
He ain't no saint I know he'll never be
He don't stay home each night with the kids and me
But just like a man he likes to have his fun
And sometimes he comes in with the mornin' sun
He never likes to tell me where he's been
He never don't want no talk when he comes in
And sometimes at night I lay in bed and cry cry cry
But for better or worse I took him till the day I die
But I'm a gonna love him just as long as I have breath in my body
He don't wear no angel wings but after all he's still my baby
I quit lookin' for a perfect man cause there ain't any more of them
So as long as I have breath in me I'm gonna keep on loving him
[ guitar ]
He never don't want no talk...
So as long as I have breath in me I'm gonna keep on loving him
I long to be his possession he is my everything
I remember my days of darekness without sunshine or sight to lead my way
Then a whisper of his voice softly called me to the arms of my Maker to stay
He is my reason for living he is the king of all kings
I long to be his possession he is my everything
After the lightning and the thunder after the last bell has rung
I want to bow down before Jesus and hear him say well done
He is my reason for living...
I long to be his possession he is my everything
Well here we are again tonight alone just us two
Where the lights are dim and true love is coming through
There's no one else in this whole world as far as we're concerned
We built ourselves a fire so let it burn
When you look at me like you do right now I go to pieces
Because I know what's on your mind it's just me
You've got that love-me-look in your eyes like you've had so many time and how
Loving you could never be better than it is right now
Tomorrow night we'll meet again to once more fan the flame
Cause loving you the way I do stays the same
This love of ours is just as strong as any vow could be
And love could never be better for you and me
When you look at me...
Loving you could never be better than it is right now
He can turn the tides and calm the angry sea;
He alone decides who writes a symphony;
He lights every star that makes the darkness bright;
He keeps watch all through each long and lonely night;
He still finds the time to hear a child's first prayer;
Saint or sinner calls and always finds him there.
Though it makes him sad to see the way we live,
He'll always say, "I forgive."
He can grant a wish or make a dream come true;
He can paint the clouds and turn to gray the blue;
He alone is there to find a rainbow's end;
He alone can see what lies beyond the bend;
He can touch a tree and turn the leaves to gold;
He knows every lie that you and I have told.
Though it makes him sad to see the way we liv,
He'll always say, "I forgive."
Move closer to me don't slip out of my arms my emotions tonight are so strong
You say I'm your woman all through the day then leave me alone all night long
When I'm in your arms I'm too weak to be strong whatever we do can't be wrong
Don't tell me you love me all through the day then leave me alone all night long
[ piano ]
Move closer let me feel the touch of your lips you've made me so weak for so long
Don't tell me you love me all through the day then leave me alone all night long
When I'm in your arms...
Sweet dreams of you, every night I, I go through
Why can't I forget you and start my life anew
Instead of having sweet dreams about you
You, you don't love me, it's plain
I should know I'll never wear your name
I, I should hate you the whole night through
Instead of having sweet dreams about you
Sweet dreams of you every night I, I go through
Why can't I stop loving you and find somebody new
Instead of having sweet dreams about you
To make you stay I'll never try and when you go I will not cry
But for a time I might be found somewhere live still around
But may you find a love that's true someone to love and cherish you
And if you love your whole life through and may you love as I love you
But if you'll ever feel alone with no true love to call your own
And if you'll need a place to hide these arms of mine are open wide
And if a troubled love brings you pain my love is all like summer rain
Always remember I'll be found still around
[ organ ]
To make you stay I'll never try and when you go I will not cry
Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You have bad times, and you have good times
Doing things that you don't understand
But if you love him, you'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him, oh be proud of him
'Cause after all, he's just a man
Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely
Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man
Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
You always said someday you'd go to live
In Southern California
And me I'd stay right here in Tennessee
You always talked about the better days
In Southern California
But if you'll stay in Tennessee
I promise there'll be better days with me
It's not that I don't love you but I hear the call
From Southern California
There's something I can't find in Tennessee
Silver screens and limousines
They wait for me in Southern California
Though you've been so good to me
The time has come you'll have to set me free
Tomorrow when you leave you'll take my heart
To Southern California
But just remember I'll be here
To keep your heart with me until you see
Well, it's been five years an' I guess I've cried a million tears
Lookin' out the window of this little room
Right over that flashin' neon sign that says, "Bar"
It's almost midnight an' time to go downstairs and go to work
I wonder how he's doin' in, Tennessee?
Well, here I sit by the window of this big old lonely mansion
Lookin' out over the Smokies and on in everything I can see
Oh, I guess by now she's found what she was lookin' for
And as I look at this old faded photograph of the girl that I still love
I wonder if she ever, thinks of me?
But the weather's good
I've got a real important job
In a large office buildin'
Ridin' people in an elevator
I drive a '57 Chevrolet
With busted tail lights
Burned out valves
And a leaky radiator
I wear a twenty dollar suit
I bought from J.C. Penney's
Back in 1962
But I've got somethin' to brag about
Somethin' to brag about
Somethin' to brag about in you
I'm a short-order cook
At an all night cafe
Down on 18th Avenue and 12th Street
I wear a swingin' mini-dress
That I made for myself
From Mama's kitchen curtains
And old bed sheets
I've got 17 pages
Of Top Value stamps
And one old pair of shoes
But I've got somethin' to brag about
Somethin' to brag about
Somethin' to brag about in you
When you're with the fellas, I know
You start braggin' 'bout
My hourglass figure
And my big brown eyes
Tell 'em, you tell your girlfriends
'Bout my sweet, sweet lovin'
And that's one better that
Money can?t buy
So, let's get married
In the not-to-distant future
We'll rent a little flat
On 29th Street
You know, we'll hang our washin'
On the clothes line from the window
We'll feast on cornbread
Butter beans and lunch meat
We won't have a thermostat
A big long Cadillac
But we'll have a love that's true
Love has somethin' to brag about
Yeah and I'll have, somethin' to brag about
Oh Lord my God when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars I hear the rolling thunder Thy art throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my song my Saviour God to Thee how great Thou art how great Thou art
Then sings my song...
When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation
And take me home what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim my God how great Thou art
Then sings my song...
How great Thou art how great Thou art
(Billy Sherrill/Glenn Sutton/Tammy Wynette)
Here's a song I love to sing,
It's about the man that wears my ring.
And even though he's tempted, he knows,
I'll make sure that he gets everything.
'Cos when he's cold, he knows I'm warm,
And I warm him in my arms.
And when he's sad, oh, I make him glad.
And I'm his shelter from the storm.
I'm his song when he feels like singing.
And I swing when he feels like swinging.
I don't know what I do that's right,
But it makes him come home at night.
And when he's home, I make sure he's never alone.
And that's why I keep singing my song.
And when he's home, I make sure he's never alone.
If you think you've had enough if you think our life's been rough
Why not take your love line off of me and set me free
If you think our love's all wrong and you feel the fire is gone
If I'm not what you'd like for me to be set me free
Set me free and let me fly like a bluebird fly in high
Release the chains that bind me to be set me free
But you can't likes to hold on onto love till it grows cold
And you held on much too long to me so set me free
Set me free and let me fly like a bluebird fly in high
Release the chains that bind me to be set me free set me free
I keep intending to tell you I been lonely much too long
And some morning you will wake up and find the note that says I'm gone
I've tried so long to say I'm moving to greener pastures down the line
I keep intending to tell you but it keeps slipping my mind
I've got it on my lips to warn you I've been lonely my last time
And when you wake up in the morning you'll find me gone and lose your mind
I'd like to say that I'll be moving...
I would have --- thinking of the words I'll say
If I could keep old memories from always headin' in my way
I've come so very close to saying my lovin' is a waste of time
The chimes of time ring out the news another day is through
Someone slipped and fell was that someone you
You may have long for added strenght your courage to renew
Do not be dishearteded for I bring hope to you
It is no secret what God can do what he's done for others he'll do for you
With arms wide open he'll pardon you it is no secret what God can do
(Billy Sherrill - Carmol Taylor)
George Jones & Tammy Wynette
Darling, I've loved you all of these years
And you've never once caused the heartbreak or tear
Without you to love me oh what would I do
It's been a beautiful life loving you.
And darling, I love you more every day
And I'll stand beside you each step of the way
You've made it heaven, my dreams have come true
It's been a beautiful life loving you.
If ever I need you, you're always there
Life is much sweeter knowing you care
Always together till life is through
Take me home again tonight and love me
Cause there's no other place on earth I'd rather be
All my life I've never been this much in love with any man
And God knows I've been needin' here so long
The places where we always go they're fine with me but don't you know
That I'd rather be with you at home
So darling take me home again tonight and love me
Cause there's no other place on earth I'd rather be
You're everything I ever want to live for can't you see
Let's go home again tonight so you can love me
Take me home again tonight...
If I could again be a little girl still clinging to mom's apron strings
I'd fall in love only with my toys that my daddy every weekend would bring
I'd live in a world of just make believe and I'd never come close to reality
If I could again be a little girl then I wouldn't be lonesome and I wouldn't be hurtin' And I wouldn't be cryin' over a big boy like you
But I never more can be a little girl for little girls fall in love and move up away
Your love turned out to be just like my toys that my mommy got up and gave away
Now I live in a world of old memories for each day I have to face reality
I'm a girl all alone but not a little girl
So that's why I'm lonesome and that's why I'm hurtin'
And that's why I'm cryin' over a big boy like you
Darlin', I've learned
How much your heart can cry and yearn
Two lips can pray for your return
At last, I've learned
Yes, yes, I've learned
The haunting melancholy blues
The heartache when I long for you
At last, I've learned
Since you've been gone
I've been a stay at home
And in this lonely solitude
I've lived over each moment with you
Yes, I've learned
I love, I love, I love you so
I feel so wrong to let you go
Yes, I've learned
Since you've been gone
I've been a stay at home
And in this lonely solitude
I've lived over each moment with you
Yes, I've learned
I love, I love, I love you so
I feel so wrong to let you go
It's nothing new for a woman to love her man
Yes I know familiar story I know you'll understand
And I've been loving you a long long time
So I'll make you a promise I won't change my mind
And you'll never be alone never broken hearted
If you think I love you now I've just started
Too many times people break each other's heart
By making vows that so quickly fall apart
So as long as you want me by your side
I'll be your woman your lover and I'll keep you satisfied
And you'll never be alone...
Even though the night is early there's a fire that whispers hurry
Darling please turn off the lights and lock the door
Come lay down here beside me tell me that I'm soft and pretty
And love me like you never have before
If this is our last time make it last me for a lifetime
Don't hold back the love you feel inside why should passion be ashamed
If this is our last time make it last me for a lifetime
Leave me with enough of sunshine to carry me through the rain
In the morning you'll be leaving but tonight there'll be no grieving
I'll have lots of time to cry when you're gone
Let's not waste one precious moment take all of me I'm still your woman
And love me up until the break of dawn
If this is our last time make it last me for a lifetime
Don't hold back the love you feel inside why should passion be ashamed
If this is our last time make it last me for a lifetime
Satin sheets to lie on satin pillows to cry on still
I'm not happy don't you see
Big long Cadillac tailor made's upon my back still
I want you to set me free
I found another man who can give the more you can
Though you've given me everything money can buy
But your money can't hold me tight like he does on a long long night
You know you didn't keep me satisfied
Satin sheets to lie on, satin sheets to lie on
We've been through thick and thin together
Braved the fair and stormy weather we've had all the hard times you and I
And now that I'm a big success you called today and you confused
And told me things that make me want to die
You told me there's another man who can give more than I can
And I've given everything that cash will buy
You can buy me a peaceful night with loving arms around me tight
Send me no roses please no more roses
Your roses can't hold me what I need most is you
Without fail everyday since you went away
The doorbell rings you're sending roses again
In my room all petals fall but darling that's not all
I read your card then a million tears began
Though the love we once knew still lives inside of you
The one who holds you now won't set you free
To see me you don't dare but roses say you care
Tell her goodbye then please return to me
But send me no roses please no more roses
Roses are red I know but to my tears they look blue
Send me no roses please no more roses
Your roses can't hold me what I need most is you
Your hand is like a torch each time you touch me that look in your eyes pulls me apart
Don't open the door to heaven if I can't come in
Oh don't touch me if you don't love me sweetheart
Your kiss is like a drink when I'm thirsty
Oh and I'm thirsty for you with all my heart
But don't love me then act as though we never kissed
Oh don't touch me if you don't love me sweetheart
Now don't give me something that you might take way
To have you then lose you wouldn't be smart on my part
Don't open the door to heaven if I can't come in
Oh don't touch me if you don't love me sweetheart
When he needs arms to hold him mine are always there
When he needs lips to kiss him mine are always near
And when he needs consolation my voice is loud and clear
I wanna be enough of a woman to please my man
Young enough to tease him
Old enough to please him
I wanna be enough of a woman to hold my man
His moods are many he changes with the wind
Like a little boy one minute the next a big strong man
I understand him like a mother and love him like a lover
I wanna be enough of a woman to please my man
Young enough to tease him
Old enough to please him
I wanna be enough of a woman to hold my man
Forever yours I'll always be please say that you'll give your sweet love to me
Forever yours my love will be I will take care of you say that you love me
I started living the day I found you I love you with all my heart say you love me too
I will stay beside you and I will guide you forever yours please say you are mine
Forever yours I'll always be...
It's knowing you don't try to bind my freedom with some promise made of gold
That for you my door stays open and our love becomes a simple to A street
And it's knowing we're not shacked by forgotten words and bons
And the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you on the back roads by the rivers of my mem'ry
That keeps you ever gentle on my mind
It's not clinging to the rocks and I'd be planted on some column now that binds us
Or something that somebody said because they thought we fit together walking
It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing or forgiving
When I'm driftin' through the market place and find
That you're moving on the back roads by the rivers of my mem'ry
And for hours you're just gentle on my mind
[ steel ]
Though the wheet fields and the clothes lines
And the junk yards and the highways come between us
And some other woman crying to her mother cause she turned and you were gone
I still might walk for hours tears of joy might stain my face
And a summer sun might burn me till I'm blind
But not to where I cannot see you moving on the back roads
By the rivers flowing gentle on my mind
[ ac.guitar ]
The shadows freek in the autumn winds that make me draw inside myself in silence
Cross legged night I sit and watch the endless chase of leaves across my yard
And layin' down my hair brush I lean back within my window seat and find
That you're moving on the back roads by the rivers of my mem'ry

God's gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that
There's no place to run and hide
For He knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get 'cha for that
This doggone world we're living in
It's giving me a fit
It seems like everywhere I turn
I see a hypocrite
Well, if ya wanna go to heaven
Well, you can't live like that
So let me tell you, brother
God's a-gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah
God's gonna get 'cha for that
There's no place to run and hide
For He knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get you for that
Now, the preacher in our church
He's a mighty devoted man
Everybody thinks, that he's a-goin' to the Promised Land
But the other night on a country road
While I was a-drivin' through
I caught the preacher makin' love
To Sister, Mary Lou
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah
God's gonna get 'cha for that
There's no place to run an' hide
For He knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Now oh Sister Bessie, she like to testify
She says, 'I'll always love the Lord, someday I'm a-gonna fly
But the other night while goin' by the local liquor store
I caught oh Sister Bessie, flyin' out the door
God's gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that
There's no place to run and hid
For He knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that
Every wrong thing that you do
God's gonna get you for that
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah (get 'cha for that)
God's gonna get 'cha for that (get 'cha for that)
There's no place to run and hide
For He knows where you're at
God's gonna get 'cha for that, yeah (get 'cha for that)
God's gonna get 'cha for that (get 'cha for that)

In a pawn shop in Chicago
On a sunny summer day
A couple gazes at the wedding rings
There on display
She smiles 'n' nods her head
As he says, "Honey that's for you
It's not much, but it's the best
That I can do"
Golden rings, with one tiny little stone
Waiting there, for someone to take you home
By itself, it's just a cold metallic thing
Only love can make a golden wedding ring
In a little wedding chapel, later on that afternoon
An old upright piano plays that old familiar tune
Tears roll down her cheeks and happy thoughts run through her head
As he whispers low, with this ring, I thee wed
Golden ring, with one tiny little stone
Shining ring, now at last it's found a home
By itself, it's just a cold metallic thing
Only love can make a golden wedding ring
In a small two room apartment
As they fought their final round
He says, "You won't admit it
But I know you're leavin' town"
She says, "One thing's for certain
I don't love you any more"
And throws down the ring
As she walks out the door
Golden ring, with one tiny little stone
Cast aside, like the love that's dead and gone
By itself, it's just a cold metallic thing
Only love can make a golden wedding ring
In a pawn shop in Chicago
On a sunny summer day
A couple gazes at the wedding rings
There on display
I don't mind you goin' down to the bar
And talkin' bout the lady's man that you think you are
If you stay out late come home a little too tight
I don't say a word everythin's still all right
I don't mind you sayin' you're the boss at home
And actin' like you're a king on a golden throne
And braggin' how you got me in the palm of your hand
But if I ever catch you with another girl gonna throw a lock on your sweet world
For you know what happened to me I'll be gone with another man
Just thought I'd give you a little advice fore you cross that line think twice
Cause if you do it's gonna be sad and I'll pull hurt like you've never had
So don't go a lookin' for love like a man that's free
Cause you got more love than you need right here with me
Cheatin' and lyin' are things I just can't stand
So if I ever catch you a doin' me wrong you ain't a gonna have no woman at home
Fore you know what happened to me I'll be gone with another man
So if I ever catch you a doin' me wrong...
I was a waitress in a barroom no future in sight
And he was just lonely when he came there that night
Then someone played the jukebox and he asked me to dance
And when he softly held me I thought it's my chance
To be good like I want to be that's what he's saw in me
Not just a girl on the wrong side of town
Good like I used to be he brought it out in me
And that's when I promised that I'd never let him down
Now I'm back here in a barroom a waitress again
The good world I've lived in just came to an end
For temptation comes easy to a woman like me
And regardless of my chances I know that I'll never be
Good like I used to be I guess it's just not in me
With all my heart how I wish I prove
I've been good like he wanted me but good is what I'll never be
And now I know that he's gone for good
Today a group of women came to see me to convince me women don't have equal right
And they left when I told them I feel equal to an angel
While my man holds me at night
My man he treats me like a lady and he's gentle as a gentleman can be
So I do everything I can to please him
Cause my man works hard and takes good care of me
Don't liberate me just love me cause I'm as free as I ever thought to be
Don't liberate me just love me some women can't understand
There's more than one difference in a woman and a man
I'm convinced that's the way God meant it to be
My little girl said mommy the school room breaks my heart
Arithmetic reminds me that you and dad's apart
Subtraction starts me breaking up cause him from us leaves too
And with our home devided now I cry a lot in school
Don't make me go to school no more and cry through every test
I'm so ashamed when children see the teardrops on my desk
Imagine how you feel to hear your child say this to you
Don't make me go to school no more and make the fifth grade blue
[ steel ]
It's hard to see my lessons the blackboard's one big tear
And when I turn wet papers in Miss Dickens only stares
So please may I be absent mom like daddy is from home
I'd rather fail than face the class they know my daddy's gone
Don't make me go to school...

All my friends told me, we'd never make it
That love to you was just a game you played
And I'll admit at times we had rough goin'
But in each other's arms we loved it away
And I've been told, my love could never hold you
To tie it down's a price you'd never pay
And I'll admit there's times when you got restless
But in each other's arms we loved it awayStep by step we walked the road together
Hand in hand love grew more everyday
When trouble came we held on to each other
And in each other's arms we loved it away
And in each other's arms we loved it away
We sure can love each other when we try just like in all the love songs when we try
And some nights I love you so much content to be beside you
And when I finally close my eyes the sun is high
But we sure can hurt each other when we try
We know all the ways to make each other cry
But when we forget compassion and to forgive is too old fashioned
We've let everything worth having pass us by
But we sure can love each other when we try
And I know we'll need each other till we die
And we'll grow old together you and I cause we sure can love each other when we try
Yes we sure can love each other when we try
This world that we are livin' in has seen its better days
Jesus said he would return and I believe he's on his way
You better change your way of livin' I hope your soul is saved
If you want to go with Jesus on that judgement day
When Gabriel makes his trumpet sound what beautiful sight
I hope your name is written down in the book of life
If you don't have salvation and you've never learned to pray
You can't go with Jesus on that judgement day
When Jesus comes to take his children home sweet home
To beautiful mansion in the sweet by and by
We'll cross the Jordan river singin' a song
When Jesus comes to take his children home
When Jesus comes...
When Jesus comes to take his children home
When I met him he was lonely from a love that went wrong
And I helped him to forgive about the life he have known
And I gave him the courage to start over again
Yes it's funny how people change when true love steps in
And when I met her she was looking for a true and good time
And when she found out someone cared it changed her ways in her mind
And then I asked her to go with me I didn't care where she'd been
Ain't it funny how people change when true love steps in
True love stepped in and I know it will last
If we live for tomorrow and forget about the past
For the first time in a long time we're happy again
Yes it's funny how people change when true love steps in
Yes it's funny how people change when true love steps in

There's that look upon your face
Every time I look your way
Let's slip away and meet some place
Wanting you the way I do
If my conscience don't show through
I'll soon be doing what my thoughts do all the time.
I guess I've always known tonight just had to come
You've always had some kind of hold on me
There's one thing I know that's true
If you want me I gotta want you
I'll soon be doing what my thoughts do all the time.
I'll soon be nestled so close to you
Thrilling, knowing baby,
How much you want me to
If desire takes full control of my body and my soul.
I'll soon be doing what my thoughts do all the time.
Yearning to be with the one I can't agree with yearning to hear you call my name
Like a fool I left you and now I can't forget you please forgive me take me back again
I'll never be the same without you darling you'll always be my everything
Now I'm yearning to kiss you oh darling how I miss you
I wish that we could make commance sweetheart
[ steel ]
Yearning to hold you and let my arms unfold you yearning to hear you call my name
Yearning to kiss you oh darling how I'll miss you oh how I wish you felt the same
I never knew how much you cared about me I thought you were foolin' me
Oh how I wish you felt the same
Yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here yo stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Suddenly I'm not half the girl I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly
Why did he have to go I don't know he wouldn't say
I said something wrong now I long for yesterday
Yesterday love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Why will a man go out and cheat what makes temptation so sweet
And it's a shame that neon lights will make a man lay out all night
With a girl in a bar down the street
You never meant to be that man but last night you held another's hand
Though her kisses tasted sweet that's not what made you cheat
So I'll try and explain it if I can
Where where where could you go oh when you needed love I wasn't there
And her two open arms offered love sweet and warm where could you go but to her
I'll forgive your one mistake if you swear it's the last you'll ever make
I let those arms you need the most take you back and hold you close
For loving you is a habit I can't break
Where where where could you go oh when you feel the urge to go wrong
The next time you're tempted when your glass is emptied
(Earl Montgomery - J. Tidwell)
I'll try to write this letter dear, the best I can
Although I haven't heard from you in quite a while
I'm doing just fine, no complications at this time
For you'd like to know that I'm with child.
I'll send this letter to the last address you gave
Hoping that the news you heard will make you smile
There's a list of names enclosed, hope you'll like the one I chose
Don't be afraid to know that I'm with child.
Our friends came by last night and gave me shower
The tiny clothes were all the latest style
These beauties you should see and they'll fit to T
Our friends were proud to know that I'm with child.
My prayer is that you'll soon be home
And that this child in me is strong
This is the moment I've waited for
I can hear my heart singing
Soon bells will be ringing
This is the moment of sweet aloha
I will love you longer than forever
Promise me that you will leave me never
Here and now, dear
All my love I vow, dear
Promise me that you will leave me never
I will love you longer than forever Now that we are one
Clouds won't hide the sun
Blue skies of Hawaii smile
On this, our wedding day(I do) I do(Love you) Love you
I'm with my little girl, the only friend left in the world
So I gave her a book to color on
Just to pass the time away
This had been her longest day
Everything so lonely with him gone
I laugh when I first look at the pictures in her book
The way she colored everything so wrong
But then a tear came over me as I realized that she
Had other things as she felt they belong
She colored mummy blue with brown eyes, crying
She made our home as great as the dawn
She made the sun as black as night
As if to say it have no life
But she didn't color daddy 'cause he's gone
Oh yes, I'm so blue and I've been crying
And our home is as great as the dawn
And the sun, it gives no light
Everyday is like the night
Well I'm livin' when I'm lovin' and I'm lovin' every time I'm with you
Just like walkin' in the sunshine Lord you make me feel so fine
And as long as we're livin' and lovin' the way we want to
I know I'm gonna be the most loved woman alive
I'm gonna hold on to the love I got I couldn't careless it they like it or not
As long as you're satisfied with the things I do
I'm gonna hold on to the love I got in a hundred million years I'll never stop
Cause there's nothin' in this world that could keep me from lovin' you
[ trumpet ]
The thrills I feel I know are real when you hold me
And I wake up every mornin' with your arms wrapped around me tight
And the feelin' I feel is exactly the way it should be
Cause the love we've got keeps goin' every day and night
I'm gonna hold on to the love...
Hey hey good lookin' whatcha got cookin' how's about cookin' something up with me
Hey hey sweet baby don't you think maybe we could find us a brand new recepie
You got a hot rod Ford and a two dollar bill and I know a spot right over the hill
There's soda pop and the dancin's free so if you wanna have fun come along with me
Hey hey good lookin' whatcha got cookin' how's about cookin' something up with me
[ steel ]
I'm free and ready so we can go steady how's about savin' all your time for me
No more lookin' I know I've been tooken how's about keepin' steady company
I'm gonna throw my datebook over the fence gonna get another for five or ten cents
I'll keep it till it's covered with age cause I'm writin' your name on every page
Hey hey good lookin' whatcha got cookin' how's about cookin' somethin' up with me
Hey good lookin' whatcha got cookin' how's about cookin' somethin' up with me
Take the ribbon from my hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Lyin' soft against your skin
Like the shadow on the wall
Come and lie down by my side
In the early mornin' light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night
I don't care if it's right or wrong
I won't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord, tonight I need a friend
Chorus:
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
I don't want to be alone
Help me make it through the night
(Hum first two lines of Chorus)
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
I don't want to be alone
He's got the whole world in his hands he's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the whole world in his hands he's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the little bitty baby in his hands he's got the little bitty baby in his hands
He's got the little bitty baby in his hands he's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the whole world...
He's got you and me brother in his hands he's got you and me sister in his hands
He's got you and me brother in his hands he's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the whole world...
He's got everybody in his hands he's got everybody in his hands
He's got everybody in his hands he's got the whole world in his hands
He's got the whole world...
Sure he gives me everything I ask for a kind of love that I never knew
And every night he comes home at the same time
But he'll never ever take the place of you
He kisses me goodbye every morning does the little things you've always used to do
But no matter how he tries it ain't the same thing
Cause he'll never ever take the place of you
Don't try to see me when you come back to town
I finally found myself up straight so please don't drag me down
I'll be good to him I'll make him happy I owe him so much what else can I do
And our little boy already calls him daddy still he'll never ever take the place of you
No he'll never know oh that I still love you so
He gives me love I thought I'd never find treats me like a baby all the time
He shows affections in so many ways and it fills my heart with love each day
He's not like a lot of men I known take me with him everywhere he goes
I feel like a woman by his side he loves me and he knows I'm satisfied
He knows all the ways to love me he knows how to kiss and hold me
And he knows exactly how much love it takes to please me
Happiness is growing all the time everyday he tells me that he's mine
No other men could take place of him
He knows all the ways to love and keep me loving him
He knows all the ways to love me...
He knows all the ways to love and keep me loving him
Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and Heaven and nature sing
Joy to the world, the Saviour reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods, rock, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders of His love
Today's the day you're tellin' him that he's got to set you free
And that bein' one man's woman brings you down
But before you throw away what you think you don't want today
Don't give it up for the new life that you've found
Run woman, run
Go back to him and fix things up the very best you can
Tell him you missed him while you were gone
Run woman, run back to your man
You're a young girl, so understand, it's so hard to find a man
Who comes home every night to only you
You may not find true love again, so go home while you still can
And find a way to work it out with your man
Run woman, run
Go back to him and fix things up the very best you can
Tell him you missed him while you were gone
Run woman, run back to your man
I guess we've walked a million miles together hand in hand
We'd climb steep Rocky Mountains a happy woman a happy man
We'd thought our love would go on forever side by side
But here we stand like strangers at the great divide
We've loved our way to the top of life the rest was all down hill
The rough times seem behind us and our dreams were all fulfilled
But we found out sometimes love grows old and I think our love just died
But here we stand like strangers at the great divide
Now you'll take a high road I will take the low
But who'll take the baby cause we both love her so
Divorce is not the answer now but we've got too much pride
So here we stand like strangers at the great divide
So here we stand like strangers at the great divide
Good lovin' keeps a home together good lovin' sure can make it right
If you ever wanna be without him it means lovin' everything about him
That keeps your man around you tight
It takes a whole lotta women to hold it together today
Cause a lot of other women have a whiole lotta time to play
You gotta be saint on Sunday morning a devil on Saturday night
And when you love him do it right
Cause she's around at corner a wrapped in fur
And you've got to be just a little bit better than her
A little bit sweeter with morning kisses a whole lot warmer in the night
With a whole lotta good lovin' to make everything alright
Good lovin' keeps a home together...
If you don't believe what I'm tellin' you is so
Put your man right down the street and watch him go
Right to the arms of a woman who couldn't even hold you a light
When a lotta good lovin' would've made everything alright
If you don't believe...
Yeah a lotta good lovin' would've made everything alright
Wondering where the hours go
Catching up on TV shows
It's not easy, heaven knows
When you're starting over
Knowing that the phone won't ring
Back to being lonely me
Funny how I seem to be
Always starting over
Foolish me, I never meant
Almost heal then break again
Look at how I've always been starting over
So just win, the hurt is through
I'll see a face across a room
And wonder if it's still too soon
To be starting over
But like a fool I'll give my heart
Then the same old thing will start
I'll watch it slowly fall apart
Then I'll be starting over
Foolish me, I never meant
Almost heal then break again
Well, he said hold on, Patricia, I only tried to kiss ya
She said okay and then said, don't you dare
She seems so badly shakin', he thought he was mistaken
But it sure looked like she bowed her head in prayer
I am a Christian, Lord but I'm a woman too
If you are listenin', Lord, please show me what to do
I've tried hard to be what mama says is good
As I step into my womanhood
Shortly after midnight, she turned off the porch light
Walked into her bedroom all alone
She sat down and said well, Lord, God, I've been through hell
Lord, wonderin' if I did right or wrong
I am a Christian, Lord but I'm a woman too
If you are listenin', Lord, please show me what to do
I've tried hard to be what mama says is good
As I step into my womanhood
One more time
You heard, yes I am a Christian, Lord but I'm a woman too
If you are listenin', Lord, please show me what to do
I've tried hard to be what mama says is good
As I step into my womanhood
Slowly slip into my womanhood
Last night he called from Dallas he was havin' a beer at the Crystal Palace
He said honey you won't be alone for long
I got to make just one more stop to pick up a ring in Little Rock
And I'm a gonna head this semi straight for home
Fourteen wheels a whinin' four big headlights shinin'
Him and that semi been away too long
Hope he don't get stop from speedin' cause I've got everything he's needin'
Waitin' for him right here at home
He's got that big ole engine singin' singin' my favorite song
And I know he's headin' my way rollin' down the highway
Tonight my baby's comin' home
[ guitar ]
For ten thousand miles I've missed him it's been a week since I kissed him
And forty truckstops since I held him tight
A million chick and he can get 'em they wanna make love and he won't let 'em
The only thing he wants he'll get tonight
He's got that big ole engine singin'...
I know he's headin' my way rollin' down the highway
Tonight my baby's comin' home
I know he's headin' my way...
You tell me you're thinking of leaving no I'm saying that our thing's gone wrong
But darling let's both talk it over I've been talking too much way too long
Oh we both gettin' nowhere at all but together we stand devided we fall
Together we stand devided we fall together there's love or there's no love at all
Oh where did you think we were going anyplace I could go would be wrong
But darling you know I'll be lonely I've been lonely too much way too long
Oh let's both try again and do all for together we stand devided we fall
For together we stand devided we fall

We always wanted a big two story house
Back when we lived in that little two room shack
We wanted fame and fortune
And wed live life the way the rich folks do
We knew some how wed make it, together me and you
With dreams and hopes of things to come
We worked and never stopped
Not much time for you and me
We had to reach the top
We bought that big two story house
And soon became the envy of the town
With all our work behind us
Wed finally settled down
Now we live (yes we live) in a two story house
Whoa, what splendor
But there's no love about
Ive got my story
And Ive got mine, too
How sad it is, we now live, in a two story house
The house is filled with rare antiques
There's marble on the floor
Beauty all around us
Like weve never seen before
There's chandeliers in every room
Imported silks and satin all about
We filled the house with everything
But somehow left love out
Now we live (yes we live) in a two story house
Oh what splendor
But there's no love about
Ive got my story
And Ive got mine, too
How sad it is, we now live, in a two story house
How sad it is, we now live, in a two story house
Two story house

This morning my little girl came up to my bed she was troubled and lonely I could see
I could tell she'd been cryin' her eyes were all red
And with her head on my pillow she said to me
I've got too many daddies a new one each night and mommy don't be mad when I say
Though I try to love them with all of my might still they just send me away
They give me dirty looks and dollys and dollars and dimes
But with all of my daddies none have a time
To stay with me and play with me like all daddies do
I've got too many daddies and they all just love you
Walk through this world with me go where I go
Share all my dreams with me I need you so
In life we search and some of us find I've looked for you a long long time
And now that I found you new horizons I see
Come take my hand and walk through this world with me
[ guitar ]
Walk through this world with me go where I go
Share all my dreams with me I've searched for you so
And now that I found you new horizons I see
Come take my hand and walk through this world with me
Don't be careless with you darling if you love him don't let him down
If you're faithful he won't leave you lost and wasted the way I am
Walk softly on the bridges that you're crossing
Don't break his heart then cry cause it won't mend
Be careful not to slam the door behind you
You may need to knock upon his door again
When temptation flirts and whispers come and taste my lips they're sweet as wine
If you weaken you'll be chatin' on your own heart like I did mine
Walk softly on the bridges...
We watch the friends we know break and drift apart
And we heard them say too much that hurts and breaks a heart
But that just seems to draw us both closer together for we believe in each other
You're happy just having pennies when we know a primise gold
But the rougher rolling ways are tighter we both hold
We laugh at rainy bad times and wait for sunny weather cause we believe in each other
We believe in each other and where you go darling I will go
Yes we believe in each other and it's all because we love each other so
We believe in each other
There are so many ways to love a man and so many things to understand
And if there ever comes a time you decide to change your mind
I'll need a way to hold you and I can cause I'll know all the ways to love a man
But there's so many ways to lose a man so quickly he can slip through your hands
One little thing goes wrong then all at once he's gone
I'd have no way to hold him like I planned
It takes more than just one way to love a man
With my hands my heart anything I can find my child my home my soul and my mind
I'll know that I can hold him yes I can if I know all the ways to love a man
Well we love to teach about and we love to preach about
We love to sing about our Jesus
All done on our knees and pray and thinking in our special way
We love to sing about our Jesus
We love to talk about we love to read about we love to shout about our Jesus
Praise him for his precious name and and for what tomorrow brings
We love to sing about our Jesus
[ guitar ]
With our songbook in our hands all together let a stand
Let's all keep singing bout our Jesus
Day we need him even more that we ever had before
Let's all keep singing bout our Jesus
We love to talk about...
We love to talk about we love to shout about we love to sing about our Jesus
The places where we used to meet we go togehter
Step by step like shoes on the feet we go together
Just like the sand out in the sea what good is sugar if you have no tea
What good're you if you don't have me we go together
That old feeling we used to get even feels better
There was a girl you made me forget the day I met her
Just like the tears in a baby's eyes just like the stars up in the sky
Like icecream and an apple pie we go together
We go together like the storm and rain just like the fire that needs the flame
Just like the picture needs the frame we go together
We go together like the moon and June just like the fork needs the spoon
Just like the song that needs the tune we go together
[ guitar ]
We go together
[ guitar ]
We go together
Yeah the places where we used to meet...
We go together like the storm and rain...
