The Saturn V Rocket: How did it work? The amazing machines that took man to the moon. The rockets mass was about 3000 tons, of which the dry mass of the rocket was about 200 tons. Of what left the launch pad, the only part of the rocket to return to Earth was the 6 tons of command module.

~3000 tons, about 90 % of which was fuel. Thats enough energy to lay waste to a city! Not only is assembling a device with that much stored energy a pretty ballsy act, but then to get on top of that rocket and to get fired into space......thats impressive! Using the Real Solar System and other Realism Overhaul mods, I test my new as-accurate-as-possible Saturn V rocket and attempt to complete an Apollo mission. This video focuses on docking the command module to the lunar module, entering lunar orbit, and landing on the Moon. The mods installed are those in the Realism Overhaul mod-list here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/59207. A better list with links to all the mods can be found in this thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/67668-Mod-bundler-for-Real-Solar-System. I use TAC rather than ECLSS, but otherwise all the core mods and as many of the extra, part, and utility mods that I could fit into my RAM were installed. No FASA, though. The in-game music is provided royalty-free by Kevin Macleod at incompetech.com. I composed the title music myself with ACID Pro 7 and Miroslav Philharmonik. Here is a massive 4 way comparison of several ports of Resident Evil 1. As always, you must watch this video with annotations to get the platform labels. PS1 version is the Director's Cut Dual Shock Edition, running on my PS3 through S-video cables at 480i to stay authentic. Sega Saturn is running on actual hardware, with S-video, at 480i. PC version is running 640x480 and was direct captured with OBS. Only the Nintendo DS version is running on emulator to make direct capture possible, however I have it running at the DS native res of 256x192, and captured it at 480p via OBS. Generally, top left is PS1, top right is Saturn, bottom left is PC, and bottom right is DS. The soundtrack switches between the versions to show various differences, such as the new Director's Cut Dual Shock edition OST. As I said, watch this with annotations ON in order to see which version is which, and which soundtrack is playing. Hope you guys enjoy!

The Saturn V Story in on Eden Thursday 19th March, 8pm. In 1961 when President Kennedy pledged to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. No rocket existed with the power or capability to rise to the challenge. In order to win the race to space, the United States would need to establish a multi-billion dollar space program.

These images were taken on the Apollo 4 and Apollo 6 Saturn V test flights. They are often mistakenly attributed to Apollo 11. They're iconic, but when seen, they are usually played back at about 1/4 the speed of the actual event. The cameras were running at 4x normal speed (About 96 fps). Here's what it would look like if you were really there and saw it happen in real time.

The Examiner 2015-03-24The Saturn V (pronounced "Saturn Five") was an American human-rated expendable rocket used by NASA's Apollo and Skylab programs from 1967 until 1973. A multistage liquid-fueled launch vehicle, NASA launched 13 Saturn Vs from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida with no loss of crew or payload. It remains the tallest, heaviest, and most powerful rocket ever brought to operational status and still holds the record for the heaviest launch vehicle payload.
The largest production model of the Saturn family of rockets, the Saturn V was designed under the direction of Wernher von Braun and Arthur Rudolph at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, with Boeing, North American Aviation, Douglas Aircraft Company, and IBM as the lead contractors. Von Braun's design was based in part on his work on the Aggregate series of rockets, especially the A-10, A-11, and A-12, in Germany during World War II.
To date, the Saturn V is the only launch vehicle to transport human beings beyond low Earth orbit. A total of 24 astronauts were launched to the Moon, three of them more than once, in the four years spanning December 1968 through December 1972.
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in the Solar System, after Jupiter. Named after the Roman god Saturn, its astronomical symbol (♄) represents the god's sickle. Saturn is a gas giant with an average radius about nine times that of Earth. While only one-eighth the average density of Earth, with its larger volume Saturn is just over 95 times as massive as Earth.
Saturn's interior is probably composed of a core of iron, nickel and rock (silicon and oxygen compounds), surrounded by a deep layer of metallic hydrogen, an intermediate layer of liquid hydrogen and liquid helium and an outer gaseous layer.Electrical current within the metallic hydrogen layer is thought to give rise to Saturn's planetary magnetic field, which is slightly weaker than Earth's and around one-twentieth the strength of Jupiter's. The outer atmosphere is generally bland and lacking in contrast, although long-lived features can appear. Wind speeds on Saturn can reach 1,800 km/h (1,100 mph).
