Port Alfred

Port Alfred is situated along the eastern seaboard of South Africa and more specifically, the Kowie River. This is home for just under 20 000 people.

This populous has access to Southern Africa's largest air school, 43 Air School the country's first man-made harbour. Port Alfred is also home to the University Standen South Africa, a subsidiary of Standen University of the Netherlands.

The man-made harbour was established in 1839 by William Cock. Port Alfred was previously separated in two, the west bank having been named Port Kowie and the east bank, Port Francis. Port Kowie and Port Francis further advocated separation in that they intended to serve as a buffer area between the Cape Colony and the Xhosa people of the Eastern Cape. It was only in 1960 that these two towns were united and named Port Alfred to honour Queen Victoria's son, Prince Alfred after his visit there.
