Schon damals wurde in der Region von Aberdeen im Nordosten von Schottland, ein hornloser Rinderschlag gezüchtet, der wegen seiner guten Eigenschaften gelobt wurde. Aus diesem alten Rinderschlag entwickelten sich in den folgenden Jahrzehnten viele lokale Schläge von denen im späten 18. Jahrhundert schließlich die beiden besten zusammengeführt wurden um das heutige Aberdeen Angus Rind entstehen zu lassen. Bist heute sind die charakteristischen Eigenschaften unverändert geblieben. Als rassetypisch gelten ein glänzendes schwarzes Fell, kurze Beine, bei einem zugleich langgestreckten Körper und die genetische Hornlosigkeit. Gourmets schätzen außerdem die ungewöhnliche gute Marmorierung des Fleisches, weshalb das Angus-Steak heute weltweit ein Begriff ist. Die Rasse wird längst nicht mehr nur auf den britischen Inseln gezüchtet, sondern zählt in vielen Ländern der Welt zu den wichtigsten Rassen in der Rindfleischproduktion. Eine beliebte Angus-Kreuzung mir dem Whitebred Shorthorn ist als "Blue Grey Cattle" bekannt und wegen ihres blaugrauen Felles leicht zu erkennen.
