Michael Rogge recounts on History Channel how his vintage 16mm movies taken in Hong Kong, Japan, and Malaysia came to live again by the nostalgic interest in the fifties by YouTube viewers. I was stationed in Japan by my bank for six years and kept the family up_to_date with films. One day I decided to pull their leg by making a skit of my supposed daily life in the Far East.. I uploaded the complete comedy in four parts on YouTube under the title 'An expats daily life in Japan' last year. It was broadcast by History Channel in the series 'Postcards from the fifties' in 2009.

The toddler, the schoolboy, some of them refugee children seeing their parents toil for their daily meal. They all saw Hong Kong change unrecognizably in the next fifty years of their lives. In het buitenland bekend als Michael Rogge is een enorme belangstelling ontstaan voor zijn films en foto's uit de jaren vijftig. Scott Minick writes: 'What makes the photographs of Michael Rogge so compelling is their compositional sophistication and the multiple layers of activity represented in them.
