BMC Racing Team Rider Rohan Dennis to attempt Hour Record in Grenchen, 8th February Watch it live on tv.uci.ch February, 8th from 12:50 - 14:15 GMT Shining on both the track and the road, Dennis believes he can beat the current Hour Record established by Austrian rider Mathias Brändle last October (51.852km): "When I look at my ex-perience on the track and the numbers I have been doing on the track and road, it’s within reach”. Ambitious, he will aim for a total distance of 53km in the attempt. "There’s a number in my head. 52.5km I’d be happy with that but I’m trying to push towards 53km."
Voigt smashes world hour record, covers 51.115 kilometres on 18 september 2014 in Switzerland. Voigt turned 43 years of age on Wednesday, one day prior to his effort, and his beating of the record was the final point in a long pro career.

Watch next #UCIHourRecord LIVE Feb 28th 2015 from 14:50 - 15:15 GMT Britain's most decorated Paralympian, Dame Sarah Storey, attempt to break the women's UCI Hour Record at the Lee Valley VeloPark. The attempt will aim to beat the existing record of 46.065km by Dutch rider Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel, which dates back to 2003.
Trek Factory Racing German rider Jens Voigt decided to attempt the Hour record on September 18, 2014 at the Vélodrome Suisse in Grenchen, Switzerland. The Hour record is one of the most prestigious records in the sport of cycling. The very first of all was set in 1893 by the founder of the Tour de France, Henri Desgrange (35 km 325). The current record - 49 km 700 - was established in 2005 by Czech Republic Ondrej Sosenka.

Rohan Dennis sets the new UCI world hour record after covering 52.491 kilometres on February 9, 2015.
Jack Bobridge fell two laps short of his second cycling world record after an hour of hell. The Australian star rode 51.3km on Saturday night at Melbourne's DISC Velodrome in his unsuccessful hour attempt. It is the second-best distance under the new rules for one of cycling's most-prestigious records. Bobridge also set an Australian record, but he could not beat the 51.852km that Austrian Matthias Brandle rode last October. He started well, but went out slightly too hard on the 250m track and eventually paid a brutal price. His father Kahl and wife, Olympic cyclist Josie Tomic, were in the capacity crowd to watch the ride on the last night of the track nationals. Bobridge was throwing up several minutes after he had to be helped off his bike at the end of the ride. He said it was the hardest thing he had done. "This is the closest to death I will ever be, I think, before actually, without dying," he said. "It's just torn me apart. "I take my hat off to Brandle - it's amazing what he's done. "That's just one hell of a record." Fellow Australian Rohan Dennis will attempt the world hour record on February 8 in Switzerland. Asked what message he would have for his fellow SA rider, Bobridge laughed and said: "don't do it to yourself". Told that coach Tim Decker thought the new Australian record holder would make another attempt, Bobridge replied: "he's going to have to do some serious convincing to make me line up to do it again". After cycling's world governing body, the UCI, standardised the world hour record last year, German Jens Voigt set a new mark of 51.115 in September. A month later, Brandle took it from him. Bobridge eclipsed Voigt's ride and also the old Australian record of 50.052km that Brad McGee set in 1997. Four years ago, Bobridge set the 4000m individual pursuit world record. Decker confessed he and Bobridge slightly misjudged the ride. "There's no doubt that we were maybe a little bit overconfident or we underestimated the hour record a touch," Decker said. "I'm feeling gutted for Jack in the fact that he didn't quite get the record. "Obviously, I have another level of respect for him after seeing him (at) the finish. "He gave it all he could and that's all you can ask." Bobridge was one of the stars of last week's Tour Down Under, but he and Decker refused to blame that race for not breaking the record. Jack Bobridge (born 13 July 1989 in Adelaide) is an Australian professional racing cyclist. In May 2009, Bobridge signed with Garmin-Slipstream, with his contract starting on 1 January 2010 and had been contracted to race with the team until 2012. He left the team at the end of 2011, and joined GreenEDGE for the 2012 season. Bobridge left Orica-GreenEDGE at the end of the 2012 season, and joined Blanco Pro Cycling on a two-year contract from the 2013 season onwards. In September 2009 he won the under-23 time trial at the UCI Road World Championships. In January 2011 he became the Australian National Road Race Champion with a daring solo breakaway. On 2 February 2011, he set a new world record for the track 4k individual pursuit. Bobridge was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. In November 2014 Bobridge was announced as part of the Team Budget Forklifts line-up for 2015 alongside fellow members of the Australian endurance track squad Luke Davison, Glenn O'Shea, Scott Sunderland and Mitchel Mulhearn, riding a domestic programme with a focus on achieving success on the track at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Bobridge won the opening stage of the 2015 Tour Down Under. He lost the overall lead on stage three but finished the race with the King of the Mountains jersey. On 31 January 2015 Bobridge attempted to break the world hour record in Melbourne. He rode 51.3 kilometres falling short of the record of 51.852 kilometers.

UCI hour record The hour record is usually attempted by road cyclists towards the end of their career. This is true of Miguel Indurain (Spain), Francesco Moser (Italy) and Chris Boardman (Great Britain). Eddy Merckx said his hour record attempt was "the hardest ride I have ever done". It was set in 1972 in Mexico City at an altitude of 2,300m (7,550 ft). In January 1984, Moser set two records, the second being 51.151 km (31.784 mi). This was the first noted use of disc wheels, which provided aerodynamic benefit. In 1993 and 1994, Graeme Obree, a Scot who built his own bikes, posted two records with his hands tucked under his chest. In 1996, Boardman set a record using another position pioneered by Obree, his arms out in front in a Superman position. Both were considered controversial by the UCI, and while the records were allowed to stand, the positions were banned. Obree and Boardman made several attempts to top the previous record. With the increasing gap between modern bicycles and what was available at the time of Merckx's record, the UCI established two records: the UCI Hour Record (which restricts competitors to roughly the same equipment as Merckx, disallowing time trial helmets, disc or tri-spoke wheels, aerodynamic bars and monocoque frames) and the Best Human Effort - sometimes termed the UCI "Absolute" Record. Unified rule change In 2014 the UCI unified the two classifications into a single classification in line with regulations for current track pursuit bikes. Records previously removed for Chris Boardman and Graeme Obree would be returned, however the current record would remain at 49.700 km set in 2005 by Ondrej Sosenka, even though that is not the furthest distance.[3][4] Under the new regulations riders may use any bike allowed by the UCI standards for endurance track events in place at the time of the attempt[5][citation needed]; Riders are required to be part of the Athlete Biological Passport Program.[6] Following the change in the rules, German Jens Voigt became the first rider of the current generation to attempt the hour on 18 September 2014 at the Velodrome Suisse, Grenchen,Switzerland. [7][8]. He set a new record of 51.115, beating the previous record set by Sosenka by just over 1km. The Times of India 2015-03-29The hour record for bicycles is the record for the longest distance cycled in one hour on a bicycle. There are several records. The most famous is for upright bicycles meeting the requirements of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). It is one of the most prestigious in cycling. Hour-record attempts are made in a velodrome, frequently at high altitude for the aerodynamic benefit of thinner air.
The first recorded record was in 1876 when the American Frank Dodds rode 26.508 km (16.471 mi) on a penny-farthing. In 1972, Eddy Merckx set a record of 49.431 km (30.715 mi) that stood for 12 years. The current UCI record is by Ondřej Sosenka, 49.700 km (30.882 mi), the current WHPVA/IHPVA record by Francesco Russo stands at 91.56 km (56.89 mi).
Because of aerodynamics, the hour record has seen innovative equipment, but this has led to debate in cycling over the extent to which records should reflect only the skill, strength and stamina of the cyclist on an upright bike with drop handlebars, or whether changes in bicycle design should be accepted.
