Codementor Office Hours: Revolutionizing IPC with Nitesh Kant of Netflix

Netflix is the leading provider of subscription streaming video, reaching over 53 million subscribers in nearly 50 countries around the world. Our subscribers consume over five billion hours of video a quarter and account for approximately 33% of the downstream internet traffic in North America. This usage of Netflix, creates billions of requests per day to our microservices control plane, hence requiring a resilient and high performing Inter Process Communication(IPC) stack to power hundreds of these services.
Traditionally, Netflix’s IPC stack was built on top of blocking I/O and is not favorable for building completely reactive applications. The advent of reactive technologies, however, altered our thought process and opened avenues in which we completely revolutionized the way in which we do IPC. Nitesh Kant, in this talk will unfold these new avenues, how they change our approach towards IPC, providing a resilient and performant stack.
Nitesh is on the Netflix's cloud platform team responsible for Netflix's Inter Process Communication stack. Nitesh is primarily involved in the open sourced projects: Eureka (https://github.com/Netflix/eureka), RxNetty (https://github.com/ReactiveX/RxN...) and Karyon (https://github.com/Netflix/karyon). These libraries form the core of all applications inside Netflix, serving billions of requests per day. Prior to Netflix, Nitesh was one of the early members of apigee (http://apigee.com/) team and created their API platform.
