The world community does not regard the Republic of China (ROC) on Taiwan as a sovereign state. A March 18, 2008 District Court Decision in Washington DC found that the native Taiwanese people are essentially stateless, and indeed the three letter codes established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), to represent countries, territories, etc. do not contain an "ROC" entry. Native Taiwanese people, who trace their ancestry in Taiwan back 400 years or more, are increasingly disturbed by their stateless condition, and claim that such a status is in direct violation of Article 15 (1) of the Universal Human Rights Declaration. That Article says that everyone has the right to a nationality. The ROC passport issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs identifies the bearer as "Chinese," but such an identification is clearly wrong. Under the One China Policy recognized by the United Nations, all international bodies, and over 90% of the world's sovereign states, "China" and "Chinese" are designations for the People's Republic of China, and the citizens thereof. The ROC on Taiwan is not "China," it is merely a Chinese government in exile. Because of the above factors, native Taiwanese people feel that they are most properly identified as "Taiwanese," and not "Chinese." The question then arises: Should native Taiwanese people who want to travel internationally be able to apply for travel documents issued by a sovereign state? Indeed, this seems a reasonable request. But, which country should bear the responsibility for issuing travel documents to native Taiwanese people, and clarifying that they are Taiwanese and not Chinese? This video presents a collection of excerpts from U.S. State Dept. publications which offer many important insights. In summary, this is a video which every person interested in the USA - PRC - Taiwan triangular relationship should watch, as well as recommend to their friends, associates, teachers, professors, debating club members, and representatives in Congress.

Court decisions in the USA have found that the native Taiwanese people are essentially stateless, and indeed the three letter codes established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) do not contain an "ROC" entry. Native Taiwanese people, who have been in Taiwan hundreds of years, are increasingly disturbed by their stateless condition, and claim that such a status is in direct violation of the Universal Human Rights Declaration. Because of the above factors, native Taiwanese people feel that they should be identified as "Taiwanese," and not "Chinese." The question then arises: Should native Taiwanese people who want to travel internationally be able to apply for travel documents issued by a sovereign state? Indeed, this seems a reasonable request. But, which country should bear the responsibility for issuing travel documents to native Taiwanese people, and clarifying that they are Taiwanese and not Chinese? This video clarifies the answer. This relates, among other things, to (i) capital requirements, (ii) requirements for risk diversification, and (iii) the liquidity status of such claims. The preferential regulatory treatment of government debt has helped create close interdependence between governments and their particular domestic banks, expanding public entities’ debt facilities and weakening market discipline for both financial institutions and governments. During the debt crisis, the close link between the two sectors was further intensified by public rescue programmes – with far-reaching implications for the financial situation of both. This second panel will provide insights into the interdependence of these two sectors, its macroeconomic and macroprudential consequences and ways to cut this Gordian knot. Martin Armstrong; Sovereign Debt Big Bang Scheduled for 2015.75 I've read most of his work... what he is saying is that we will have another economic downturn on or about 10-1-2015... like 2007, however worse... there will be recovery again... and the cycle repeats itself... similar to 2011 where the stock market has risen to where it is today. Then at the end of 2032 there will be the mother of all economic downturns...likely at that time the DOW will be many times where it is today.... however I don't exactly know what the world or the U.S. will be like... I don't know if it is a Mad Max World or like in the movie "Looper" or a repeat of the Great Depression...Fall of the Roman Empire or a combination of all this... certainly a lot less jobs for certain... likely higher interest rates and a collapse of stock values. One thing that has been clear in his writing is that all Governments will begin heavy taxation as this all collapses... likely there will be further destruction of pensions as cities or states can no longer pay these pensions... so you all may want to plan ahead... like I said you may want to sell your properties and take capital gains tax now as it may be brutal in the future... if your counting on a pension these may also dry up so if you have an option of taking cash value... may want to give this a hard look. --- Martin Armstrong is one of the most famous economic forecasters alive, but you wouldn’t know it after the whitewashing job he’s suffered at the hands of the federal government and the mainstream financial press. The man who in the 1980s and 90s had central bankers and politicians calling him for advice is now scrubbed from the memory banks of sites like Bloomberg.com. He’s famous, or infamous, for having predicted the October 1987 Black Monday crash to the very day. He also called the Nikkei stock market collapse in 1989 and the Russian financial collapse in 1998. And he hasn’t lost his touch, outfoxing hedge fund managers by predicting last week’s Swiss National Bank decision to abandon its peg to the Euro. Martin is not an Austrian by any stretch, relying on complex mathematical and historical models rather than economic theory. But he is strongly anti-state, anti-central bank, and quick to criticize Keynesian orthodoxy. Martin spent more than a decade in a government cage after being prosecuted by the SEC, including 7 years for the non-crime of contempt of court. His story, both as a forecaster and a stubborn thorn in the side of federal prosecutors, will be told in an upcoming documentary. It’s a story you won’t want to miss. According to Wikipedia, this is one of the possible definitions of the word "Republic": A republic is a form of government in which power resides in elected individuals, and the government is ruled by elected leaders run according to law (from Latin: res publica), rather than inherited or appointed (such as through inheritance or divine mandate). In modern times, the definition of a republic is also commonly limited to a government which excludes a monarch. Currently, 135 of the world's 206 sovereign states use the word "republic" as part of their official names. Both modern and ancient republics vary widely in their ideology and composition. In the classical and medieval period of Europe, many states were fashioned on the Roman Republic, which referred to the governance of the city of Rome, between it having kings and emperors. The Italian medieval and Renaissance political tradition today referred to as "civic humanism", is sometimes considered to derive directly from Roman republicans such as Sallust and Tacitus. Norway said Friday it would bar its state pension fund, the world's biggest sovereign wealth fund, from investing in the worst climate-polluting companies. In its annual white book on managing the fund, the right-wing government proposed to "introduce a new criterion to exclude companies whose conduct to an unacceptable degree entail greenhouse gas emissions." The proposal did not mention any companies by name. The new rule is in line with experts' recommendations in a December report, though its conclusions had left environmentalists and the political opposition disappointed. They had wanted to see the fund -- which is valued at 835 billion euros ($885 billion), fuelled by Norway's state oil revenues -- divest all of its holdings in companies linked to fossil fuels. The experts' report had instead recommended the fund act on a case-by-case basis and that it use its role as a company shareholder to improve corporate practices. The sovereign wealth fund, which at the end of December controlled 1.3 percent of world market capitalisation, is already bound by strict ethical regulations that bar it from investing in "particularly inhumane" weapons makers, the tobacco industry and companies that are found guilty of violating human rights, causing serious environmental damage, or corruption. Even before the adoption of this new criterion, and for strictly financial reasons, the fund has in recent years divested its holdings in several dozen companies, including coal and cement producers, whose business models were deemed no longer tenable because of climate change or environmental costs. The white book also proposed an increase in the share of earmarked "green" investments, calling for between 30 and 60 billion kroner (between $3.7 billion/3.5 billion euros and 7.0 billion euros/$7.4 billion). The current ceiling is 50 billion kroner.

Most live in the Central Valleys region, which is also an important area for tourism, attracting people for its archeological sites such as Monte Albán, native culture and crafts. Another important tourist area is the coast, which has the major resort of Huatulco, and Puerto Escondido, both with their own international airports, and the increasingly popular small beach villages of Zipolite and Mazunte. A sovereign state (or simply state) is classically defined as a state with a defined territory on which it exercises internal and external sovereignty, a permanent population, a government, and the capacity to enter into relations with other sovereign states. It is also normally understood to be a state which is neither dependent on nor subject to any other power or state. The existence or disappearance of a state is a question of fact. While according to the declaratory theory of state recognition a sovereign state can exist without being recognised by other sovereign states, unrecognised states will often find it hard to exercise full treaty-making powers and engage in diplomatic relations with other sovereign states.
The word "country" is often colloquially used to refer to sovereign states, although it means, originally, only a geographic region, and subsequently its meaning became extended to the sovereign polity which controls the geographic region.
Sovereignty is a term that is frequently misused. Up until the 19th century, the radicalised concept of a "standard of civilisation" was routinely deployed to determine that certain peoples in the world were "uncivilised", and lacking organised societies. That position was reflected and constituted in the notion that their "sovereignty" was either completely lacking, or at least of an inferior character when compared to that of "civilised" people." Lassa Oppenheim said "There exists perhaps no conception the meaning of which is more controversial than that of sovereignty.
