Northfork is a 2003 film directed by Michael Polish and written by Michael and Mark Polish. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2003 and later received a limited release in the United States on July 11, 2003. The film stars James Woods, Nick Nolte, Daryl Hannah, Anthony Edwards and Peter Coyote. This is the brothers' third film collaboration, after Twin Falls Idaho (1999) and Jackpot (2001).
The film's narrative consists of several interwoven subplots taking place in the town of Northfork, Montana circa 1955. A new dam is being built which will flood the valley of Northfork, and the town is in the midst of an evacuation. The narratives focus on several individuals who, for one reason or another, have yet to evacuate. Walter O'Brian (Woods) and his son (Mark Polish) are on the evacuation team, helping to evacuate the last few inhabitants of Northfork. Father Harlan (Nick Nolte) is one such individual, who has stayed behind to care for Irwin (Duel Farnes), a dying orphan too weak to leave town. While the O'Brians and their co-workers encounter an array of unusual characters, Irwin discovers that he is the "unknown angel" and finds himself a family in his dreams.

Mark Polish and Michael Polish (born October 30, 1970), known informally as the Polish brothers, are American twin screenwriters and film producers. Michael usually directs their films, and Mark often has an acting role.
The Polish brothers were born in El Centro, California. Their father is from Montana, and is of part Austrian ancestry. Their paternal grandfather worked on the dams of Montana. Their mother's family is Mexican. The brothers were raised Catholic.
The Polish brothers began their film career with the 1999 Sundance debut of their first feature, Twin Falls Idaho. The identical twin siblings wrote and starred in the tale of conjoined twins. Michael directed. Sony Pictures Classics bought the rights for theatrical distribution of the film, which Janet Maslin of The New York Times said had "style, gravity and originality to spare."
Michael Polish, in an interview with Robert K. Elder for the book The Film That Changed My Life said much of his own inspiration came from watching Once Upon a Time in America in his youth.
James Howard Woods (born April 18, 1947) is an American actor and producer. He is often known for villainous roles, and appeared in a variety of films, including The Onion Field (1979), Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Salvador (1986), Casino (1995), Nixon (1995), Ghosts of Mississippi (1996), Hercules (1997) and White House Down (2013). On television, he is known for acting in Shark (2006–2008).
He has been nominated twice for an Academy Award and has won one Golden Globe Award. Additionally, he has won three Emmy Awards – for television movies Promise and My Name Is Bill W., and for the animated series Hercules.
His voice work has been heard in The Simpsons, Family Guy, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and in films such as Stuart Little 2 (as Falcon) and Disney's Hercules (as Hades).
Woods was born in Vernal, Utah, and had a brother ten years younger than him. His father, Gail Peyton Woods, was an army intelligence officer who died in 1960 after routine surgery. His mother, Martha A. (née Smith), operated a pre-school after her husband's death and later married Thomas E. Dixon. Woods grew up in Warwick, Rhode Island, where he attended Pilgrim High School, from which he graduated in 1965. He is of part Irish descent and was raised Catholic, briefly serving as an altar boy.

However, in the small town of Northfork, the townspeople are being evacuated because of the construction of a dam that will wash away their homes. A group of trench-coat-wearing government employees, hired to get rid of the proud few who remain, go about the business of destroying lives with efficiency. Meanwhile, a young orphan boy lies sick in bed, being cared for by a devoted priest. The boy's fever dreams include fantastic beings that might be angels... but are they simply in his head?

Here's my initial review of the Benchmade 15031-1 North Fork folding hunter. Part of Benchmade's new "Hunt" series of knifes, the North Fork fills the void left by the Mini Bone Collector, which has been discontinued. While better than the MBC in several ways, there are features of the discontinued blade I'm sorry to see go. All in all, the North Fork is a credible replacement, and a pretty excellent small hunting blade.

In a near-empty Northfork orphanage, Father Harlan gently tends to Irwin, an eight-year-old who lies between a dream state and death. As orphanage caretaker Harlan reads aloud about Northfork's years-ago forced evacuation to make way for a hydro-electric dam, Irwin's imagination takes flight. While a team of six men evacuate the last remaining citizens of the town, Irwin, too, invents a cast of characters to prepare himself for his own evacuation. (the above states the caretaker - who is actually the priest - is reading about a years-ago evacuation. In the movie, the evacuation is taking place as the boy lays dying!)

Have you seen the lights glow, they'll pave the way, the
way back
We know that we can change or slip south from the
weight of vices
Equal lost, equal loved, try to find equal light
We lost our lives today
We'll wake when this bell rings
They prayed on, hearts to the ocean
They prayed on, hands to the airwaves
They prayed on, eyes to horizon
They prayed on
We will wait for the rain
We will tame all the wait
We'll burn that door, trace the footsteps to the north
I relinquish all, all for you, it's all for you
Have you seen the lights glow,
they'll pave the way back, the way back home
We know that we can change or slip south from the
weight of vices
Equal lost, equal loved, try to find equal light
We lost our lives today
We'll wake when this bell rings
They prayed on, hearts to the ocean
They prayed on, hands to the airwaves
They prayed on, eyes to horizon
They prayed on
We will wait for the rain
We will tame all the wait
Burn the rest, we don't need air
It's so delayed and low
We were laughing, but this will change
