Rob Peters: Fantaisie Symphonique sur le Thème de l'Alleluia de Pâques
- Duration: 24:20
- Updated: 20 Oct 2014
Rob Peters (born 1969) wrote the main part of this organ piece between 2000 and 2003 and completed it in 2009.
The first performance was by the composer on the 1878 Pereboom & Leyser organ at St. Martin's church, Maastricht (The Netherlands), on july 19, 2009. The present recording is of this live performance.
The Fantasy is based on the Gregorian chant of the Alleluia of Easter Sunday. It has a three-art structure, with a slow middle movement, that reflects on the suffering of Christ on the cross. The first movement is written in the form of a Theme with Variations, while the finale combines a virtuoso Toccata and Fugue.
Presently, the composer is working on a series of 24 large-scale organ sonatas, in all major and minor keys, a large project that will take years to finish.
The sheet music of the Fantasia, the Sonatas and many more organ pieces by Rob Peters, including shorter and simpler pieces for liturgical use, can be downloaded for free at IMSLP.org:
