February Fashion Blog with Erin

erinnamm4

This past weekend I attended NAMM & rocked some of my new clothing from Angry Young and Poor & some of my tried & true favorites.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with NAMM, it stands for National Association of Music Merchants and it’s
basically a 4 day giant convention where every type of device and musical instrument from companies from all over the world are displayed for wholesalers to purchase & sell in their stores.

Everything related to music is at NAMM & tons of musicians are there too.  I was lucky enough to meet  Tim Armstrong of Op Ivy /Rancid & Elvis Cortez of Left Alone.

NAMM takes place at the end of every January in Anaheim, CA and it only happens once a year.  It’s not open to the public and it’s quite an ordeal to get a badge unless you know someone that can get you registered. Luckily we had a hookup ;-).

In addition to checking out all the instruments and other musical goodies, there’s usually some pretty big musicians that come by their sponsor’s booths (unannounced).  But if you’re in the know and have a bit of luck, you’ll catch your favorite musicians and get to say hey.

NAMM is a ton of fun with music everywhere and numerous after party shows every night when the convention ends. Needless to say, we were EXHAUSTED but very happy and fulfilled after the weekend was over. Can’t wait til next year!

Until next month, keep rockin’!

Hey everybody I’ve been asked close to 100 times to write something about music for the shop blog and I put it off forever but here ya go.

First off take it easy and don’t get bent out of shape. My opinions are just that OPINIONS. I highly recommend you get out see some shows.. buy some records and form your own.

I got to play/check out some amazing shows all over the county this year and meet some great people. I’m usually making pins and complaining about bands I don’t like behind the counter at AYP but here is a short list of bands that are worth checking out (for now) I mean any good or great band has the potential to shit the bed and lay some weirdness on us.

Bands that kill it live and never disappoint.

Night Birds

Midnight

Watain

LPs worth checking out

Institute- S/T

Erin’s November 2014 AYP Blog

Waiting for the show to begin!

Erin is back with her second blog for AYP!  She is updating us this month on West Coast Shows and her personal DIY style………….

On Sunday night I went to the Red Bull Sound Select Presents: 30 Days in LA feat.
Bad Religion & The Scandals at The Mayan in downtown Los Angeles.

The Mayan theater is decadent and beautiful; built in the 1920s it was originally a movie palace but
now they have live shows there from time to time.

I was really excited for the show because my friends, The Scandals (New Jersey), had
been put on the bill and been flown out to LA to open for Bad Religion. I met these guys
back in April of 2014 when they were on tour in Germany with another friend of mine’s
band. Funny enough, The Scandals and I had some mutual friends because they toured
with some of my other friends in LA. It’s a small world I guess and it’s really crazy that
we connected in Germany (half way around the world) of all places.

Both The Scandals and Bad Religion played killer sets and it was a fantastic night! Lots
of friends were there and there was a great energy to the evening. For me, that’s what
punk rock is all about: listening to the music that inspires you and hanging out with good
friends in an environment that feels like a community; bonding together over common
interests.

Until next time, keep rockin’!

Welcome to the New AYP!

AYP has a brand new look.  Out with the old and in with our updated customer inspired website!  The new site now also features our first blog.  We will have posts on music, fashion, and anything else that grabs our interest.  We are kicking off our first blog with our friend Erin Micklow from LA to talk about her AYP style and what was going on at Riot Fest in Chicago.  If you want to contribute to our blog shoot us an email.  We would love to have other customers and friends of the shop spread some punk love too!  Without further ado here is Erin –

Erin is wearing studs and spikes, leather cuff, bullet belt, and AYP DIY customized tee. She is also wearing Lip Service Bondage Leggings, and her own vest & gloves.

Riot Fest Fashion

Riot Fest Chicago was 10 days ago now & I’m still buzzing from the festival a little bit. It was my first time attending because I live in Los Angeles, but I seriously had the best time! I was also extremely impressed by how organized the festival was considering they had 7 stages and a ton of bands performing. All the bands started when they were supposed to, the wait to get in was practically non-existent, & there was a bunch of stuff to do so I was never bored between sets!

For the festival, I wanted to be comfortable but still look good so I wore my trusty Dr. Martens leather boots all 3 days to keep my feet dry & protected from the ridiculous amounts of mud. Thankfully it only rained on Friday (and was sunny on Saturday/Sunday), but the mud stayed for the entire weekend. Some other staples in my festival wardrobe are my bullet belt, studded wristbands, my favorite vintage heart lock necklace & one of my punk vests. Then I throw on a cut up shirt, leggings/pants or a mini skirt with ripped stockings to complete my look. Since it was pretty chilly in Chicago while I was there, I also rocked my newest punk jacket (which I couldn’t finish studding in time for the festival because my supplies had arrived only 3 days prior to my departure), a scarf & my favorite fingerless motorcycle gloves. Comfortable, cute & ready for whatever a great punk festival might throw at me!

Until next time, keep on rockin’!
