During a Department of Fish & Game Commission hearing on February 5th, an NSSF representative asked Commissioner Mike Sutton for a response to the complaint filed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation with Attorney General Kamala Harris.
Below is a timeline of events regarding the conflict of interest complaint filed by NSSF against Fish & Game Commissioner Sutton.
December 16th: The National Shooting Sports Foundation files formal complaint against Fish and Game Commissioner Michael Sutton, alleging that his position as Executive Director of the Audubon Society conflicts with his appointment on the Commission. The complaint specifically outlines the situation surrounding AB 711, which banned the use of traditional ammunition with lead components. The Audubon Society sponsored the legislation and now the Fish and Game Commission is tasked with implementing regulations. NSSF requests the Attorney General to investigate this possible conflict of interest.
February 4th: Having received no response from the Attorney General, NSSF sends a follow-up letter, urging action as the Commission is meeting soon to discuss regulations for lead ammunition.
February 5th: Fish and Game Commission meets. NSSF representative asks for a response from Commissioner Sutton and is told, "You're not going to get one, sorry." When pressed, Commissioner Sutton said, "No comment."
