Missolonghi (Greek: Μεσολόγγι, Mesolóngi, older forms Mesolongi, Misolonghi, Mesolongion) is a town of about 13,000 people (2001) in western Greece. The town is the capital of Aetolia-Acarnania and is also its third largest town. It is the seat of the municipality of Iera Poli Mesolongiou (Sacred City of Missolonghi). Missolonghi is linked to, although bypassed since the 1960s by, GR-5/E55. The road to Astakos is to the northwest and there is also access to GR-48 to the east. The town had a railway station on the line to Agrinio but this has been abandoned since the 1970s.
The town is located between the Acheloos and the Evinos rivers and has a port on the Gulf of Patras. It trades in fish, wine, and tobacco. The Arakynthos mountains lie to the northeast. The town is almost canalized but houses are within the gulf and the swamplands. The Messolonghi-Etoliko Lagoons complex lies to the west and is also a swampy area. In the ancient times, the land was part of the gulf.
The municipality Missolonghi was formed at the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the following 3 former municipalities, that became municipal units:

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, later George Gordon Noel, 6th Baron Byron, FRS (22 January 1788 – 19 April 1824), commonly known simply as Lord Byron, was a British poet and a leading figure in the Romantic movement. Among Byron's best-known works are the brief poems She Walks in Beauty, When We Two Parted, and So, we'll go no more a roving, in addition to the narrative poems Childe Harold's Pilgrimage and Don Juan. He is regarded as one of the greatest British poets and remains widely read and influential.
He travelled to fight against the Ottoman Empire in the Greek War of Independence, for which Greeks revere him as a national hero. He died at 36 years old from a fever contracted while in Missolonghi in Greece.
Byron was celebrated in life for aristocratic excesses including huge debts, numerous love affairs, rumours of a scandalous incestuous liaison with his half-sister, and self-imposed exile. It has been speculated that he suffered from bipolar I disorder, or manic depression.

The mockery of a trial for last year’s notorious “countertops” incident has finally concluded, that involved our comrades from Missolonghi, whom among them was MP of the Aetolia-Acarnania region, Konstantinos Barmparousis. We remind you that for the so-called incident, that the first court session that was held a few months ago adjourned by way of a coup, in order to find new witnesses to replace the previous ones.
Ultimately, on November 14th, the second session was held and the “new witnesses” that had been summoned, were completely inadequate to the point where they were useless to the prosecutors. These persons submitted testimony based on video they saw of the case, apparently unaware that their opinions had no legal value.
The result, after several hours of deliberation, the prosecutor’s recommendation and the court’s decision was for the defendants to be acquitted, as the witnesses could not identify the defendants and because no unlawful acts had been witnessed.
This specific case, which is part of the notorious “criminal organization” file, demonstrated the weakness of the argument against the Leader, the MPs, and the staff of Golden Dawn, whom are imprisoned “under orders from Samaras” and because of the actions of those in “Bobby’s Circle”.
The news of Konstantinos Barmparousis and the rest of comrades’ acquittal WERE NOT reported by any of the controlled and heavily indebted porn-channels; as opposed to the lies and the slanderous reporting that was first aired back then!

Η έκθεση «Missolonghi: Lagune de sel et de mémoire», του Βασίλη Αρτίκου, ταξίδεψε και στο Brussels Press Club, στο κέντρο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης όπου και θα παραμείνει ανοιχτή στο κοινό μέχρι τις 6 Απριλίου.
Μετά από την επιτυχία της έκθεσης στο Παρίσι, το φωτογραφικό έργο του Βασίλη Αρτίκου, και η συνεργασία του με τον Νίκο Αλιάγα, παρουσιάζεται στις Βρυξέλλες.
Πρωταγωνιστής της έκθεσης, το Μεσολόγγι, μια πόλη μοναδική για την ιστορία της, πλυμμηρισμένη από μνήμες του αγώνα, του πόνου και του ηρωισμού, αποτέλεσε έμπνευση για τον Βασίλη Αρτίκο, για μία συλλογή μοναδικών φωτογραφιών, αντανακλώντας την δική του ελπίδα για το μέλλον, στις στιγμές που συλλαμβάνει με τον φακό του, κι απαθανατίζονας αληθινά συναισθήματα, γαλήνη και μια αιώνια ομορφιά παγωμένη στον χρόνο.

The mockery of a trial for last year’s notorious “countertops” incident has finally concluded, that involved our comrades from Missolonghi, whom among them was MP of the Aetolia-Acarnania region, Konstantinos Barmparousis. We remind you that for the so-called incident, that the first court session that was held a few months ago adjourned by way of a coup, in order to find new witnesses to replace the previous ones. Ultimately, on November 14th, the second session was held and the “new witnesses” that had been summoned, were completely inadequate to the point where they were useless to the prosecutors. These persons submitted testimony based on video they saw of the case, apparently unaware that their opinions had no legal value. The result, after several hours of deliberation, the prosecutor’s recommendation and the court’s decision was for the defendants to be acquitted, as the witnesses could not identify the defendants and because no unlawful acts had been witnessed. This specific case, which is part of the notorious “criminal organization” file, demonstrated the weakness of the argument against the Leader, the MPs, and the staff of Golden Dawn, whom are imprisoned “under orders from Samaras” and because of the actions of those in “Bobby’s Circle”. The news of Konstantinos Barmparousis and the rest of comrades’ acquittal WERE NOT reported by any of the controlled and heavily indebted porn-channels; as opposed to the lies and the slanderous reporting that was first aired back then! Η έκθεση «Missolonghi: Lagune de sel et de mémoire», του Βασίλη Αρτίκου, ταξίδεψε και στο Brussels Press Club, στο κέντρο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης όπου και θα παραμείνει ανοιχτή στο κοινό μέχρι τις 6 Απριλίου. Μετά από την επιτυχία της έκθεσης στο Παρίσι, το φωτογραφικό έργο του Βασίλη Αρτίκου, και η συνεργασία του με τον Νίκο Αλιάγα, παρουσιάζεται στις Βρυξέλλες. Dodging heavy showers, I nipped into the Musée des Beaux-Arts (it's free but you must have a ticket), where I found Romantic painter Eugène Delacroix's "Greece on the Ruins of Missolonghi" underwhelming and smaller than I expected for such a monumental subject ... ....

His worst decision may have been to sail, in December 1823, from Cefalonia to Missolonghi, a damp and fever-ridden town on the mainland of western Greece that would be the scene of his death four months on. Nemesis stalked his every move in Missolonghi, which greeted him as a messiah and today carries a monument to its most honored guest....

In 1824 Lord Byron wrote a poem on the occasion of his 36th birthday. He composed it in Missolonghi, Greece, where he had gone to support the Greek War of Independence. Titled "January 22nd, Missolonghi," the poem concludes.. •. If thou regret'st thy Youth, why live?. The land of honourable Death. Is here. -- up to the Field, and give. Away thy breath!. Seek out -- less often sought than found -- ... And take thy rest. • ... Mr ... Mr ... ....
