HBO has added another female comedian to bring the laughs to its pilot slate.

Whitney Cummings has landed an untitled pilot inspired by Maureen Dowd’s book “Are Men Necessary?” at the pay cable network, following Sarah Silverman’s comedy project, in contention for series.

Cummings will also shoot a standup comedy special this fall, set to air on HBO in 2016.

The pilot, first reported by Deadline, is described as a comedic portrait of modern relationships that focuses on human nature and social construction using documentary elements and appearances from experts to help the characters understand the biological basis of their behavior.

Cummings, who created CBS’ “2 Broke Girls” and also NBC’s two-season sitcom “Whitney, will serve as the writer, star and exec producer on her HBO pilot with Tom Werner, Jimmy Miller and Dowd also exec producing.

The comedy special will also be exec produced by Cummings, plus Marty Callner who will direct. »
