Publications
We’ve produced six publications so far.
The first was a 32 page newspaper, distributed at the protests against the 2007 G8 Summit in Heiligendamm. It contained 14 articles each addressing the question, ‘What would it mean to win?’ This was a reference to a famous piece of graffiti, reading ‘We are winning’, sprayed on a wall in Seattle during the protests against the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in 1999. We posed the question, several years later – at a time when the globalisation movements were somewhat less sure about their ability to create change – as to what this, exactly, would mean. Our second publication was a single, collectively written text entitled ‘Move into the Light? Postscript to a turbulent 2007’. We published this as a pamphlet, and it was also republished as a journal article in ‘ephemera: theory and politics in organization’ along with a new ‘Introduction’. (And for those of you who always wanted to know why this was numbered Turb_03, it’s ‘cos _02 was a workshop held at the Camp for Climate Action in the UK in August 2007.)
Our third publication came out in the summer of 2008. It was a 64 page colour newsprint magazine, broadly themed around the issue of ‘futures’. As ever, all articles have also been published online here.
In December 2009, we published a fourth issue, returning to the original tabloid size, but this time with 40 pages. You can find this latest issue online here. A Spanish language version of Turbulence, containing many of the articles published in Issue 5, was published in April 2010. It can be found here.
In early-2010, and in collaboration with PM Press, we published a book, ‘What Would it Mean to Win?’. It contains the whole of Turb_01 and _3, as well as an extended interview with two collective members, a new Preface, and a Foreword by John Holloway. You can find out more here.
Our sixth publication was a special, Spanish-language edition of Turbulence launched at the World People’s Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Nature, held in Cochabamba, Bolivia in April 2010. It contained a selection of texts translated from Issue 5. All the articles contained in the special issue, ‘¿…Y ahora algo completamente diferente?’, can be found online here, and a PDF of the publication downloaded here.

Who we are
Turbulence is a journal/newspaper that we hope will become an ongoing space in which to think through, debate and articulate the political, social, economic and cultural theories of our movements, as well as the networks of diverse practices and alternatives that surround them. Read more here
