Sunset is a 1988 film released by TriStar Pictures. Written and directed by Blake Edwards, the movie stars Bruce Willis as legendary western actor Tom Mix and James Garner as legendary lawman Wyatt Earp.
The story is based on Rod Amateau's novel Sunset, which was loosely based on fact as Earp actually did serve as technical adviser for some early silent westerns.
Although Willis received top billing in the film, Garner actually has much more screen time during the movie. This was the second film in which Garner played Wyatt Earp, the first being in John Sturges's Hour of the Gun, released in 1967.
Set in Hollywood of the late 1920s during the waning days of the industry's transition to sound film, producer and studio head Alfie Alperin wants to produce a great Western movie about Wyatt Earp. Tom Mix is cast as the great United States Marshal and the real Earp is on set as a technical adviser. But before Earp and Mix can start their movie adventure they are caught in a real case of murder, prostitution and corruption. Together they try to straighten out the problems of the missing son of Earp's former girlfriend Christina. But now she is the wife of studio boss Alfie Alperin and he isn't amused by Earp's investigations. The fact that the young man's older sister is dating a notorious mobster and that all three were at the scene of a murder. Soon Earp unveils the true sadistic character of Alfie Alperin and after the death of Christina matters become personal.

Plot
A group of gangsters steal the valuable brood-mare "Larkspur" from the Conway Ranch in Arizona. The mare's three-month-old colt tries to follow its dam, but is outdistanced. The lost colt finds its way to the Carey farm, where David Carey, a 16-year-old orphan, lives with his miserly uncle Thad Carey and his aunt Hildy Carey. David adopts the colt and names it "Sunset." When the colt isn't filling out as David thinks it should be, he goes to the Conway Ranch to consult the head groom, Jack Lenihan. When Bill Conway and his young daughter, Wendy, return to the ranch, David learns that his colt is "Larkspur's" foal, and belongs to the Conways. David goes home and tries to return to colt, but "Sunset" won't leave, and David decides it's a matter of finders-keepers. But the colt breaks a leg and may have to be put down, unless a newly-invented trick of putting a dental-cement cast on a horse's broken leg works for veterinarian 'Doc" Purdy.

We can ride off into the sun

Or you can go on jacking me off

I see her when the sun is high
The clouds write her name across the sky
But, the boss man is giving me the eye
I'd better go to work, but I'll see her by and by
At sunset I'm gonna see my sweetheart
Gonna hold her so tight
At sunset I'm gonna see my baby
My baby tonight
I see the shadows on the run
I see the setting of the sun
At last my working day is done
The setting of the sun has finally come
It's sunset I'm gonna see my sweetheart
Gonna hold her so tight
It's sunset I'm gonna see my baby
My baby tonight
I see her in the twighlight standing there
The wind softly stirring in her hair
The sweetest fruit the earth can bear
So young so warm and so rare
It's sunset, at last I'm with my sweetheart
I'm holding her tight
It's sunset and now I'm with my baby
It's 13 hours from Phoenix
Trying to get some place dry
the suns sweet ray ran too long in my mind
It's 3 A.M on these back streets
A thousand words gone awry
I almost lost the vision of your eyes
But you were the one who
Cast me into blue
I'm moving fast to catch that old feeling
My chest gets so tight
Can't ever breath at night
Keep thinking about those cold sheets on my skin
It's getting dark in this small town
Never felt so alive
I figured how the sunsets in my mind
This winters gone on for too long
Cold air is cracking my lungs
Something inside keeps pushing on and on
Now I get so shook
I'm losing my left looks
These regrets keep turning into prophecies
Blame it on bad luck,
Or simply the product
Of too much time of having everything
You make things alright
tuck me in at night
Keep reaching for the cool parts of your skin
was it the one who
Built me up to do
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Flying high, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
In the summer sky, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Flying high, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Gently pass on by, flying high
Flying high, flying high
Flying high, flying high
Flying high, flying high
Take me on your flight
Flying high
Flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Flying high, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
In the summer sky, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Flying high, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Gently pass on by, flying high
Flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Flying high, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
In the summer sky, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Flying high, flying high
Bird of prey, bird of prey
Gently pass on by, flying high
Flying high, flying high
Flying high, flying high
Flying high, flying high
Take me on your flight
Flying high
Flying high, flying high
Flying high, flying high
Flying high, flying high
Sunday morning, church bells ring
Warming sunlight touches my skin
I've been waiting here way too long
Road is calling, my time has come
Goodbye, girl, farewell, so long
We enjoyed it but the time has come
Don't try to enchain a storm
Lone rider has to roam
Crumbling engine, I feel the chrome
One last smile then I'm gone
Into the sundown leads my way
Going home, where I should stay
Goodbye, girl, farewell, so long
We enjoyed it but the time has come
Don't try to enchain a storm
Lone rider has to roam
Goodbye, girl, farewell, so long
We enjoyed it but the time has come
Don't try to enchain a storm
Lone rider
Lone rider
Lone rider has to roam
Sunset, sunset
It's sunset, it's sunset
You went and left happy
You're all alone
You turned and walked away
About this time of day
It was always sunset
Sunset
I didn't want you to see me cry
So I turned my head
To hide the tears in my eyes
I turned when evening shadows fall
That's when I miss you most of all
And oh, it's sunset
[Intro]
Now, just picture me – high up with my top down
On Highland and Sunset, doin' 85 on the top deck
See, step by step we're walking on stars
If you're looking for some action, you ain't gotta go that far
[Hook]
Now, just picture me Hollywood living
Riding through the sun, riding through the sunset
Now, stop tripping, just give me a minute
And wait until the sun, wait until the sun goes down
Man, you know how it go down
Man, you know how it go down
Highland entertainer, waiting 'til the sun goes down
You know how it go down
You know how it go down
Might get a little crazy, just wait until the sun goes down
[Verse 1]
Underground, any city I come in town
Touchdown, Hail Mary, gettin' to the dough like Pillsbury
All night, don't feel worried
High up is where we will be
Nah, you ain't gotta feel guilty
Won't judge you, go on, be free
So pour what you want
Go head, roll what you want
Fuck what they say
Somebody walkin' 'round here like they're somebody
Don't know what kind of day I had
With all this weight, couldn't hold my bag
Don't hold me back from my habits
Live a fast life for the magic
I'm just lookin' 'round for the baddest
Hollywood face with an ass from Dallas
Big-ass crib, nigga livin' in a palace
We rollin' out
And my hands on the wheel so tight, got a callus
Get so fabulous
With everybody here, only thing that matters
[Hook]
[Verse 2]
And it's go time
I swear this feeling's like we're inches from the goal line
Now or never, better make your mind
Might hit her with a line like “what's your sign?”
Hit her with a glass of sparkling wine
Hit her on the ass, she might not mind
Actin' like a 10, look more like a 9, but
Don't be stuck up
Really, how could you not see us
Doing it big, it's obvious
You ain't gotta say much, 'cause
I know you're sick and tired, sick and tired of all that bullshit
Then don't be afraid, take a shot and bite the bullet
That's one in the hole
Can't get enough, need one or two more
Tell 'em catch up, they're running to slow
Out the gutter, I learned to bowl
And finally it's movie time to show them I play the role
Of a champion, you see the goal
Light shines bright, can't see the road...
I wake up, its 5 past 9
I see your face next to mine
Its like you came from heaven
Guess the angels are on my side
Outside the sky is bright
I smile and close my eyes
I must be dreaming
I hope we never say goodbye
When the sun sets in your eyes
And as we watch the day go by
Ill think of you through the night
Through the darkness of the sky
Waiting for the morning light
I hope that time will never fly
As the sun sets in your eyes
As the dawn comes over me
I sit here asking why'd you leave
You promised me we'd see each other
My heart had flown so high
Then a call came through tonight
Seems I've lost you without a fight
Wish I was dreaming...
We might have to say goodbye
Last time the sun sets in your eyes
I'm left here lying with a sigh
Ill think of you through the night
Through the darkness of the sky
Don't want to see the morning light
I hope that time will never fly
As the sun sets in your eyes
Let the sun set in your eyes...
Let the sun set in your eyes...
In your eyes...
So I guess Ill say goodbye
Once the lights died in your eyes
As the rest of time goes by
Youre in my mind forever
Through the darkness of the sky
Waiting for the morning light
Time never seems to fly
(Clarence Paul/Stevie Wonder)
Sunset, sunset
It's sunset, it's sunset
You went and left happy
You're all alone
You turned and walked away
About this time of day
It was always sunsetSunset
I didn't want you to see me cry
So I turned my head
To hide the tears in my eyes
I turned when evening shadows fall
That's when I miss you most of all
And oh, it's sunset
Oh, sunset
Could be honeycomb
In a sea of honey, a sky of honey
Whose shadow, long and low
Is slipping out of wet clothes?
And changes into the most beautiful iridescent blue
Who knows who wrote that song of Summer
That blackbirds sing at dusk
This is a song of color
Where sands sing in crimson, red and rust
Then climb into bed and turn to dust
Every sleepy light must say goodbye
To the day before it dies
In a sea of honey, a sky of honey
Keep us close to your heart
So if the skies turn dark
We may live on in comets and stars
Who knows who wrote that song of Summer
That blackbirds sing at dusk
This is a song of color
Where sands sing in crimson, red and rust
Then climb into bed and turn to dust
Who knows who wrote that song of Summer
That blackbirds sing at dusk
This is a song of color
Where sands sing in crimson, red and rust
Then climb into bed and turn to dust
Oh, sing of summer and a sunset and sing for us
So that we may remember
The day writes the words right across the sky
There is only one way
Before you stand up
The only one unknown
Don't be blinded by it
Things can be better than now
Now look up at me
No one ever cared about you
Act like you mean it
The enemies lay behind the door
When you are doing great
I turned on the TV when I could,
But no one never thinks of me
A man is nothing unless he does what he really wants
Don't worry they won't pay attention to you as yourself
Let them see the lies build
There is only one way
Before you stand up
The only one unknown
Don't be blinded by it
Things can be better than now
To link all the pieces of memories
The same mistakes are committed
Escape from the space between the lies
To reach where we stand now
There is only one way
Before you stand up
The only one unknown
Don't be blinded by it
Watching the sun set so low
Tells us that it's time, the day is too end
Nobody cries as it leaves
Or reaches for the light
But soon back again
But then I hear you sigh
And wish that you could stay
I'd like another day with you
Don't want to know where it ends
I'll live with either way
Just tell me what I have to do.
Where is the joy time forgets
You ask me if I know
It's still as before
Up on a breeze soaring high
It comes alive each day
Whenever you call
But now to lose your love
The charm throughout my day
To walk along our paths all alone
I have memories enough
To help me find my way
So weak to live, so small to be atonished
You`re not able to see the world
So week to live, so small to be atonished
You`re not able to create the world
You try to scape from pain
So frail, so frail, so frail to suffer
You refuse, you refuse life
You live denying your self
Embrace your life and you lonelynness
Slave, slave we always be
All we feel, but just in the end
When the last day come
And touch our window...
In the last day...The sunset its only ours
The significant of life
Is know how we die
Born again
Start again
Embrace you life and you lonelyness
Slave, slave we always be
Im like the seed
Who grows in the stone
Im like the seed
Who grows in the grumble
Im like the seed
Who grows in the edge of the road
Im like the seed
Who never stop to grow
Separate, separate of the good land
deny your life
Oh, look at the sun, it's all a-glow
Slow burning star, sinking low
Heaven knows where you go
Out of sight, out of minds eye, no
Aaw, such a shame, you must leave
All day long you were a friend to me
Still, the moon's company
Until morning when larks will sing
Horizon's appointment you'll keep
For sun swept flamingos must sleep
Scenes like these from my dreams
Cover cutting-room floors all over
Warm heart, we spin slowly from view
Why are you sad, do you disapprove?
How we've wasted our time
Sunset, end of my day, my decline
Postscript, you trace colors the sky
Red-letter light fades is filed away
Sunburst fingers you raise
Heimdall:
"Brother gods, Asgardr in flames
Now the ice is burning
And my voice invokes my sky
My blood feeds the earth...
Rain wets my bloody armour
My arm holds my sword
And my eyes are closing
I glimpse the SUNSET
Rain wets my bloody armour
My arm hold my sword
And my eyes are closing
I'll reach the SUNSET"
These were his last words
Leaves fell on his still remains - Now the wind too brushed the god
And all, all was still - Silver tears shone in the heavens
We were supposed to feel the same
We were supposed to act like nothing changed
Follow the strict instructions counting up their noise
Follow the way they move and watch with their eyes
Won't let them fool us again
This day is ours
Wait, wait until the sun, it sets over our heads
And we, we won't sleep again
Wait, wait until the sun, it sets over our heads
The stars will lead us from this place
We are the young and we are king
We never let our truth be seen
Selling our ideas off for much needed change
You're better off with us now than you would be against
Wont let them fool us again
This day is ours
Wait, wait until the sun, it sets over our heads
And we, we won't sleep again
Wait, wait until the sun, it sets over our heads
The stars will lead us from this place
I don't care for much in this world
Except to the stars and the good I deserve
Won't let them fool us again
This day is ours
Wait, wait until the sun it sets over our heads
And we, we won't sleep again
Wait, wait until they realise we cut the line
Words and music by Roddy Frame
Sand seperates the sea
From me on my desert island
Sun obliterates the sky
And I, I'm just like anyone
No matter how I try
I wanna see the sun.
And it shines
To luminate the distance
Illustrate the difference
Between you and me
And it collides with clouds
That set the sky free
Indicating right, indicating wrong
I'm just like anyone
I wanna see the sun.
Moon through many stages move
And light love
Like a silent L.D.
Swoon and every single kiss
You ever lit like this
Is gonna feel like bliss
So just reflect the sun
And guide everyone.
And it shines
To luminate the distance
Illustrate the difference
Between you and me
And it collides with clouds
That set the sky free
Indicating right, indicating wrong
So just reflect the sun
And guide everyone.
A cable car above the bay
Below the stars saying "are you okay?"
To the one you love.
It sings like a song
As it strings you along
You suspend your belief
There's no need, baby I've gone there
Stars shone there.
And they shine
To luminate the distance
Illustrate the difference
Between you and me
See them collide with clouds
That set the sky free
Indicating right, indicating wrong
And just like anyone
I wanna see the sun
I wanna see the moon
I wanna see the stars
I remember the day you first told me that
I was the man that had your heart
From that day forth I knew that nothing would
Ever come and tear us apart
So then people try to warn me about you
Said that I should never trust you
But so stupid so me, I didn't listen then
I let myself go fall in love with you
(What happened to us?)
You were supposed to be my future
Brought the ring and had to take it right back
(Were you really in love?)
Or was I just a game to prove to yourself?
You could get a me
(Yeah)
You're more beautiful than anything in this world
More precious than the rarest diamond or pearl
And even though we didn't work out together
You're still my sunset, set, set, set
And I know that you and I are two worlds apart
But you'll always be the one to have my heart
I'm gonna love you for now and forever
'Cause you're my sunset, set, set, set, set
Your innocent smile used to drive me wild
Even though you ain't innocent at all
And now I feel so stupid cause I'm the only man
That ever loved you even with all your flaws
Even your best friend questioned why
I still would be with you after knowing your past
But what she didn't understand is knowing
Your past is why I thought we could last
(What happened to us)?
We had something special but
What? Was I not good enough for you
(Are you really in love?)
Can't show mine was fine
'Cause without trying
I still ended up hurting you
(And I'm sorry)
You're more beautiful than anything in this world
More precious than the rarest diamond or pearl
And even though we didn't work out together
You're still my sunset, set, set, set
And I know that you and I are two worlds apart
But you'll always be the one to have my heart
I'm gonna love you baby now and forever
'Cause you're my sunset, set, set, set, set
Maybe one day we'll end up talking again
Maybe one day we'll go back to being just friends
Promise to love you, baby till my life ends
'Cause you're my sunset, set-set, set, set
No matter what happened between me and you
I'll always be the man that you could run to
I loved you then I love you now and forever
I saw you again, it felt like we had never met
It's like the sun set in your eyes and never wanted to rise
And what have you done with the one I love?
When I look into your eyes, I see no surprise
I always thought it was sad
The way we act like strangers
After all that we had
We act like we had never met
We make believe, I've never seen your face, you neither mine
And catch my eye, don't register a smile
You were more than just a friend, oh but the feeling
It never came to an end, I can't bear to see you
I always thought it was a shame
That we have to play these games
It felt like you really knew me
Now it feels like you see through me
When I see you again
I'll know not to expect
Stay one step away
We will have to wait
When I see you again
And I'm greeted as a friend
It is understood
That we did all we could
I always thought it was sad
The way we act like strangers
After all that we had
We act like we had never met
I always thought it was a shame
That we have to play these games
It felt like you really knew me
Coming in at night all the desert highways
Crackle with the static of a thousand little radios
Everyone talking, no-one listening
Well by now I should expect that
Down into the city I smell artificial green
A glasshouse full of growing things
That are not what they seem to be
Look away, look away, the procession's leaving town
The emperor rides naked and no-one gives a damn
That was the last time
I get a morbid satisfaction watching Sunset in all its degradation
We were in a restaurant for wannabes clinking glasses in celebration
We had to leave before something bad occurred and Niko grabbed the keys
We drove out in the early morning with the radio jammed on R'n'B
Drive away, drive away, and he turned to me and smiled
Said, how does it feel to be living through the Fall of Rome
And I said it's beginning to feel OK
The last time
Well I gave you all my money
I'm ashamed to remember now just why I did that
I got bitter, I got jealous, but not as much as you
Do you understand that?
Ten hours drifting half awake and finally touching down
I went out in the rainy morning and kissed the blessed ground
Coming home, coming home and the most of it is done
And the worst of us is left behind in the place where it belongs
I stand beside you
And I close my eyes
And for a moment I
See the light
You'll regret that I
Know you love me
You take for granted
What we should be
It's getting harder it's getting dark
There's lots of smoke but there's no spark anymore
And I can feel you fade away
I can see you fading away
And I can feel you fade away
Into the sunset
I don't deserve this, this this- aggrivation
Could you tell me what's so hard about a- a conversation
So walk all over me, it's as flat as a board
Take what you need
Don't come around no more
Feel you fade away
I can feel you fade away
And I can see you fade away
You only want
What you can't have
And when I'm gone
You'll want me back
I find it hard
Just to see you, I'm
Lost for words, if I could
Only greet you
We were caught in a bad haze with no chance to be one
We're getting from the eye of the storm
It's getting harder it's getting dark
There's lots of smoke but there's no spark anymore
And I can feel you fade away
And I can see you fading away
And I can feel you fade away
Into the sunset
Well here we are at the
base of the sunset
Here we are, here we are
this I won't forget
As the night slowly
creeps up our backside
I'm so blessed that you're
here with me tonight
cause it feels so right (Cause it feels so right)
How did I fall so in love with you ?
How did I fall so in love with you ?
Baby I'm crazy for you
and I always will be
Here in this moment for two
so let's pack our bags and
runaway, well runaway.. runaway
Well here we are at the
start of the sunrise
Here we are, here we are
after a perfect night
Take my hand as we walk
towards the sunlight
Holding back all the words
that we should say
but it's too perfect
How did I fall so in love with you ? (How did I get so
lucky ?)
How did I fall so in love with you ? (How did I get so
lucky ?)
How did I fall so in love with you ?
You gotta tell me how I got this lucky
How did I fall so in love...
Baby I'm crazy for you
and I always will be
Here in this moment for two
so let's pack our bags and
runaway, we'll runaway.. we'll runaway
How did I fall so in love with you ? (How did I get so
lucky ?)
How did I fall so in love...
Baby I'm crazy for you
and I always will be
Here in this moment for two
cause it feels so right with you
With you, with you (You gotta tell me how I got this
lucky)
Sunset, sunset
It's sunset, it's sunset
You went and left happy
You're all alone
You turned and walked away
About this time of day
It was always sunset
Sunset
I didn't want you to see me cry
So I turned my head
To hide the tears in my eyes
I turned when evening shadows fall
That's when I miss you most of all
And oh, it's sunset
If I were never to leave you
If I were always alone
If I would never to see you
If I could set the sun
If I could set the sun
Keep moving
Keep changing
Keep flowing in the sun
Lovers rise
Oceans rise
People rise in the sun
If I were never to leave you
If I were always alone
If I would never to see you
If I could set the sun
If I could set the sun
Tears falling
Right falling
Leaves a falling in the sun
Lives drifting
Seas drifting
Worlds drifting with the sun
If I were never to leave you
If I were always alone
If I were never to receive you
If I could set with the sun
If i
Never to leave here
If i
Always alone
If i
(if I)
Oceans rise
Vapors rise
(if I)
People rise
With the sun
Oceans rise
(if I)
Vapors rise
People rise
I remember way back when
We'd walk barefoot in the sand
Nothing could ever stop us
But, we never stopped to think and who cared about tomorrow
Days that summer stained
Eyes that filled with rain
The past is all too swallow
Now that you're gone
I wil never forget
Sunrise, Sunset
I said the words
You made no promises
I'd paint the picture
You'd draw the line
Bonds of love don't hold you down
They hold you together
I see the rise; You see the signs
I see the fall
Things will happen that I just can't explain
The more I give to you the more you keep taking away
I've paced a thousand floors
I gave it all and you still wanted more
A passion for fire
Sun is dropping, I touch it with my fingertips
Like the heaven is pouring blood upon my lips
I have closed my eyes, but still I see the skies
Verifying it's promises to set me free
Wind is crying and quietly mourning over me
I forgot my home the place where I was born
Remember your glance from far away
So desperate gaze now I pray
So tired and amazed I'll walk this way

I forgot my home the place where I was born
Remember your glance from far away
So desperate gaze now I pray
So tired and amazed I'll walk this way
In silence your voice whispers to me
So long I was blind and now I see
A cold desert dawn is calling me
Verifying it's promises to set me free
Counting clouds in the sky
I see castles and mountains up there in disguise
Colors change with the light
It's too early to tell if I'll be alright
It's gotta be the best
And if it is, God I hope she's heading West
I pray for a sunset
One that she won't ever forget
To put her in that magical moment
When the world was right and she was mine
I hope that the sky can open her eyes
And remind her of all that she left
I pray for a sunset
I hope when she's driving away
She gets stuck on our memory of Montigo Bay
It might just change how she feels
If a rose red sunset burns through her windshield
She'll remember the kiss
'Cause the twilight skyline looked just like this
I pray for a sunset
One that she won't ever forget
To put her in that magical moment
When the world was right and she was mine
I hope that the sky can open her eyes
And remind her of all that she left
I pray for a sunset
Oh, there it is like a miracle
Blue and red and green and gold
Last chance to bring her home
I pray for a sunset
One that she won't ever forget
To put her in that magical moment
When the world was right and she was mine
I hope that the sky can open her eyes
And remind her of all that she left
All the love that nobody forgets
So baby please be looking West
At the sunset
Beyond the heaven's warm and velvet mist
wouneded by the thorns of existence
I'm waiting my last sunset
in my winterforst palace
I'll dream of you
while the shadows touch the ground
I'll dream of you
while the candles are burning out
I'll dream of you
in my crystal casket
I'll dream of you
on your last sunset
Screams of agony echoe in my head
as darkness spins the net of silence
and i'm waiting my last sunset
in my winterforst palace
Sunset, sunset
It's sunset, it's sunset
You went and left happy
You're all alone
You turned and walked away
About this time of day
It was always sunset
Sunset
I didn't want you to see me cry
So I turned my head
To hide the tears in my eyes
I turned when evening shadows fall
That's when I miss you most of all
And oh, it's sunset
(Ja Rule)
