Ruby Nell Bridges Hall (born September 8, 1954) is an American activist known for being the first black child to attend an all-white elementary school in the South. She attended William Frantz Elementary School. In spring of 1960, Bridges was one of six black children in New Orleans to pass the test that determined whether they could go to the all-white school. Two of the six decided to stay at their old school, three were transferred to McDonogh, and Bridges went to a school by herself. Ruby was the only one assigned to William Frantz. Her father was initially reluctant, but her mother felt strongly that the move was needed not only to give her own daughter a better education, but to "take this step forward ... for all African-American children." Her mother finally convinced her father to let her go to the school. The court-ordered first day of integrated schools in New Orleans, November 14, 1960, was commemorated by Norman Rockwell in the painting The Problem We All Live With (published in Look magazine on January 14, 1964). As Bridges describes it, "Driving up I could see the crowd, but living in New Orleans, I actually thought it was Mardi Gras. There was a large crowd of people outside of the school. They were throwing things and shouting, and that sort of goes on in New Orleans at Mardi Gras." Former United States Deputy Marshal Charles Burks later recalled, "She showed a lot of courage. She never cried. She didn't whimper. She just marched along like a little soldier, and we're all very very proud of her." As soon as Bridges entered the school, white parents pulled their own children out; all the teachers refused to teach while a black child was enrolled. Only one person agreed to teach Ruby and that was Barbara Henry, from Boston, Massachusetts, and for over a year Henry taught her alone, "as if she were teaching a whole class." That first day, Bridges and her adult companions spent the entire day in the principal's office; the chaos of the school prevented their moving to the classroom until the second day. On the second day, however, a white student broke the boycott and entered the school when a 34 year old Methodist minister, Lloyd Anderson Foreman, walked his 5 year old daughter Pam through the angry mob, saying, "I simply want the privilege of taking my child to school...." A few days later, other white parents began bringing their children, and the protests began to subside. Every morning, as Bridges walked to school, one woman would threaten to poison her; because of this, the U.S. Marshals dispatched by President Eisenhower, who were overseeing her safety, allowed Ruby to eat only the food that she brought from home. Another woman at the school put a black baby doll in a wooden coffin and protested with it outside the school, a sight that Bridges Hall has said "scared me more than the nasty things people screamed at us." At her mother's suggestion, Bridges began to pray on the way to school, which she found provided protection from the comments yelled at her on the daily walks. Bridges Hall is the subject of the Lori McKenna song "Ruby's Shoes." Her childhood struggle at William Frantz Elementary School was portrayed in the 1998 made-for-TV movie Ruby Bridges. The young Ruby Bridges was portrayed by actress Chaz Monet, and the movie also featured Lela Rochon as Ruby's mother, Lucille 'Lucy' Bridges; Michael Beach as Ruby's father, Abon Bridges; Penelope Ann Miller as Ruby's teacher, Mrs. Henry; and Kevin Pollak as Dr. Robert Coles. On January 8, 2001, Bridges Hall was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Bill Clinton. Like hundreds of thousands of others in the greater New Orleans area, Bridges Hall lost her home (in Eastern New Orleans) to the catastrophic flooding in the failure of the levee system during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In October, 2006, the Alameda Unified School District dedicated a new elementary school to Ruby Bridges, and issued a proclamation in her honor. In November 2006 she was honored in the Anti-Defamation League's Concert Against Hate. In 2007 the Children's Museum of Indianapolis unveiled a new exhibit documenting her life, along with the lives of Anne Frank and Ryan White. In 2010, she had a 50th year reunion at Frantz Elementary with Pam Foreman Testroet, who, at age five, was the first white child to break the boycott that ensued from Bridges' attendance at that school.[2] Bridges continues to tour as an inspirational speaker against racism. In 2011, she visited St. Paul's Episcopal School, a K-8 school in Oakland, CA. Her visit coincided with the unveiling of the Remember Them humanitarian monument by Mario Chiodo, which includes a sculpture of the young Ruby Bridges. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_Bridges

Lori Toye is a New Age author most notable for her I Am America Map. Lori Toye had her first vision in 1983. In the vision, "Ascended Masters," named Saint Germain, Sananda, El Morya, and Kuthumi prophesied changes to the Earth’s land masses by unrolling a large map of North America that showed details of these changes. The map represents the earth's future geography after climatic earth changes due to earthquakes, drought, and other natural disasters. Toye's new earth is called Freedom Star, and major portions of it are under water. In the map, much of the Western United States sinks underwater after a giant asteroid hits Nevada. A new continent called New Lemuria forms west of South America. The tip of Florida, most of Maine, Delaware, and New Jersey are covered by the Atlantic, and the Mississippi River opens up and makes east Texas a huge bay. Additionally, most of the West Coast is covered, and opens into a large bay called the Bay of Harmony. The coast will go from San Diego to Salt Lake City through Sedona, AZ and Denver. Denver will be a beach front city on the Bay of Harmony and nicknamed the Golden Port. Toye claims that in 1988, she received more information from visions and drew a map, which she called the I Am America Map. She sold her home to raise money to publish her map, and in 1989 she began distributing free copies to magazines, organizations, and friends. She noted that "crime-infested" cities such as New York and Los Angeles were underwater in the maps, but that she believed that the prophecy could be avoided if people changed their thoughts and actions. Toye drew another map called the Golden City Map, which identifies certain areas of the United States that may become centers of "spiritual rebirth" after others are covered in water. The I Am America Map sold more than 40,000 copies. In his book on world religions, Bob Larson says that Toye and the I Am America Map are at the "forefront of the Earth Changes movement.

Heartfelt thanks to the warm crowd at The Haute in quaint seaside Moss Landing Harbor ~ it was a lovely way to share an evening and sing a few songs for you all. Thanks for sharing my first live run through a song I'm working on ~ a slowed-down arrangement of "Shake" so beautifully written by Lori McKenna.
"Girl Crush" was written by Liz Rose, Lori McKenna and Hillary Lindsey and recorded by "Little Big Town" on their 2014 album "Pain Killer." The version presented here was sung by Chris Steffen of Sleepy Eye, MN on February 23, 2015. The music is from "Karaoke2go Country Hits Volume 6" and video clips are from VideoBlocks.com and Chris Ames. The video was produced and edited by Chris Ames also from Sleepy Eye. We hope you enjoy it! P.S The lyrics say, "I love her long blonde hair" but I wasn't able to find any blonde women kissing in VideoBlocks.com.

Lori McKenna Reveals Her 'Girl Crush'
I heard a great interview a couple of weeks ago on WATD with a wonderful local singer songwriter named Lori McKenna. Lori's not only the real deal as a songwriter, but she has a wonderfully mature and low key way of talking about the creative process. One of things she said was that sometimes people are actually moved by songs that you don't expect much from - song ideas that just happen to be stuck in your head even though you can't imagine them garnering much popularity. Well, I don't want to hazard a guess how long this tune has been stuck in my head, but this recording of it is its first publication of any kind. Not at all sure what folks will think of it, but with Lori's advice in mind, it feels right to put it out. If you get something out of this tune, please like, favorite, share, link, and subscribe. Thanks for listening. -Avram Recorded on my iPhone 5 with a Zoom iq5 microphone attachment. BBC News 2015-04-08The word asshole, a variant of arsehole, which is still prevalent in British and Australian English, is a vulgar to describe the anus, often pejoratively used to refer to people.
The word arse in English derives from the Germanic root *arsaz, which originated from the Proto-Indo-European root *ors — meaning buttocks or backside. The combined form arsehole is first attested from 1500 in its literal use to refer to the anus. The metaphorical use of the word to refer to the worst place in a region, e.g., "the arsehole of the world") is first attested in print in 1865; the use to refer to a contemptible person is first attested in 1933. In the ninth chapter of his 1945 autobiography, Black Boy, Richard Wright quotes a snippet of verse that uses the term: "All these white folks dressed so fine / Their ass-holes smell just like mine ...". Its first appearance as an insult term in a newspaper indexed by Google News is in 1965. As with other vulgarities, these uses of the word may have been common in oral speech for some time before their first print appearances. By the 1970s, Hustler magazine featured people they did not like as "Asshole of the Month." In 1972, Jonathan Richman's Modern Lovers recorded his song "Pablo Picasso," which includes the line "Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole."
She's crying again
You lay quiet on her chest
She knows you're a dangerous comfort
But you haven't broken her heart yet
She wants to feel safe again
She thinks that you understand
Maybe it's crazy maybe it's brave
Either way it's a losing game
She's hoping she'll know what to do
With a 6 shot 22
When the only one who's innocent is cold blue steel
For the first time someone's listening to how she feels
Lord knows you can't save her
You can't stop or change her plans
Just an American revolver
You're proof she means what she says
It's a fairer fight with you around
To rescue her if things get so bad
There's no other possible way out
She keeps going back and forth
Between herself and the door
When the only one who's innocent is cold blue steel
For the first time someone's listening to how she feels
Lord knows you can't save her
You can't stop or change her plans
Just an American revolver
Too late now for I'm sorry - American revolver
He's coming up the front steps - American revolver
He's been drinking again
She keeps going back and forth
Between herself and the door
When the only one who's innocent is cold blue steel
But this time someone's gonna listen to how she feels
Lord knows you can't save her
You can't stop or change her plans
It's cold for early June but the sun is rising fast.
There's a dew up on the quiet hill
where he lays in the grass.
Staring up at Heaven's gates
to see if he can see in Jesus' eyes.
The woman that he thinks of is still lying fast asleep.
As he asks for resolution and prays his soul to keep.
A man of God in love can't touch,
a man of God, temptation, sunrise.
But it doesn't mean I don't love you.
It doesn't mean I don't care.
It doesn't mean I wouldn't love to
run my fingers through your hair.
It doesn't mean I wouldn't
make sweet love to you so right.
It just means not in this life.
This has always been the path for him,
since the age of nine or ten.
And if only he remembered now
the things he knew back then.
It seemed God had a plan for him
a clear and decisive role.
But he never would have seen her
if she hadn't come to pray.
If she didn't need forgiveness
he'd still be a holy man today.
If she wasn't so damn beautiful,
if her eyes didn't bleed into his soul.
But it doesn't mean I don't love you.
It doesn't mean I don't care.
It doesn't mean I wouldn't love to
run my fingers through your hair.
It doesn't mean I wouldn't
make sweet love to you so right.
It just means not in this life.
Dear God, I am sorry for my sins.
Dear God, I'm for the situation I'm in.
He'll analyze the burning,
measure the tremble in his chest.
Falls behind on duties,
and he's sleeping less and less.
He doesn't pay attention in church,
He doesn't answer to his name when people call.
He's got himself this apple
and it's looking so damn good.
Oh, but just because he can bite it -
it doesn't mean he should.
He lets her know his feelings,
Eden is burning and he doesn't care at all.
But it doesn't mean I don't love you.
It doesn't mean I don't care.
It doesn't mean I wouldn't love to
run my fingers through your hair.
It doesn't mean I wouldn't
make sweet love to you so right.
Oh, It just means not in this life.
I'm sorry for my sins,
I'm sorry for my sins,
I'm sorry for my sins,
I'm sorry for my sins,
I'm sorry for my sins,
I'm sorry for my sins,
I am sorry for my sins.
Yeah, I am sorry for my sins...
But it doesn't mean I don't love you.
It doesn't mean I don't care.
It doesn't mean I wouldn't love to
run my fingers through your hair.
It doesn't mean I wouldn't
make sweet love to you so right.
It just means not in this...
Just means not in this life,
just means not in this life....
I am sorry for my,
I am sorry for my,
Would you sell your soul for someone just to talk to?
Would you close your eyes if I told you not to look?
I don't deserve a single thing I want so
Take it for granted
What's gone has been took
Well, someone hurt you and I'm sorry that you're lonely.
If you were everything you promised you would be
You wouldn't be in this place like this,
With a girl like me.
If you were everything you promised you would stand by
If you were half the qualities you boast
If you're in love then tell me why do I cry?
You're the one in love, but I miss you the most.
And if the world turned just to make you happy
If you were half the man you promised to be
You wouldn't be in this place with a girl like me.
And the moon only turns in circles
And my heart only beats so fast,
My heart,
Your soul.
So I guess I'm your "I told you you'd be sorry"
If only I could be your sacrificial lamb
Well if you're looking for blood from a stone, baby
I'll tell you one thing, that's exactly what I am
You just stand there and tell me I'm not worthy
For every little idiosyncrasy
The world turns just to make you happy
If you were everything you promised you would be
You wouldn't be in a place like this,
With a girl like me....
I was born a sickly little child,
I nearly died just after my birth.
Five years I fought the illness,
My mother prayed and prayed for what it's worth.
At that time we traveled along, back home to Ireland.
I took sick and the doctors admit
I should have died right there and then by their hands.
Mother called it an overdose,
They called it an oversight.
But since then, I've never been sick a day in my life.
Call it divine purpose,
Call it fate.
Watch Mass on channel 56 and that way you'll never be late.
And God will thank you.
Well, I've seen the heavens open up.
I've seen the angels fly.
I've seen children kill and I've seen grown men cry.
I know all about Noah's ark,
The rain's been falling all the while.
And I heard about Adam and Eve,
But I still believe she never got a fair trial.
Call it divine purpose,
Say it's untrue
Well, they never brought anything back from Roswell
So who are you going to pray to?
God will thank you.
Maybe I only read the Bible
When I'm staying at the Holiday Inn.
I see church on Easter and Christmas
But every other Sunday I just can't fit it in.
But I'm coming from a true place,
I'm shining like a new light.
I'm thanking God for everything I have in my life.
Call it divine purpose,
Call it fate.
Or maybe you believe in God
Because the Big Bang theory don't hold much weight.
I went to high school with that kid
He was even strange back then
The type whose eyes don't leave the floor
Blend in with the cement
Well, I felt so bad for that kid
One day I saw his face turn green
And as he tumbled to the floor
The thought of reaching out never occurred to me
Why don't we open up
Knowing that we all falter
And when will we learn
To reach out for each other
He lived out on the edge of town
And I'm pretty sure he had a brother
It seemed that boy could walk for days
I suspect to avoid his mother
And I always knew he had it bad
Tougher than any of us others did
Still I never asked him how he was doing
What could I do? I was just a kid
And why don't we open up
Knowing that we all falter
And when will we learn
To reach out for each other
So, now he's the new town bum
He talks to himself and picks up cans all day
And when my kids ask me about him
What'll I say? What'll I say?
And why don't we open up
Knowing that we, we all falter
And when will we learn
When will we learn to open up
Knowing that we all falter
When will we learn
I said, when will we learn
When will we learn
Ain't going to sell my soul, well I'm not that dumb
Things are never what they seem.
Down at the cross roads I got better things to sell,
I'm going to sell some of my dreams...
Going to package them up,
Two for a buck,
And with any luck
I'll buy me some Holy Water, gonna to wash me clean,
And that Holy Water is gonna to wash me clean...
Well, I've seen the devil, says he's going to buy me time,
make my dreams come true
I say baby, baby, baby you don't know my kind.
this is what I'm going to do.
Going to package them up,
Two for a buck,
I'm going to sell them cheap and keep the water running.
Gimme some Holy Water, going to wash me clean
And that Holy Water is going to wash me clean...
If you see me with the devil by my side
Well I am guilty by association, I can't lie.
But I can hear their cries and I can hear their screams
I'm going down to the crossroads to sell myself some dreams...
Oh hear me now, hear me now....
I line up with the sinners and wait my time,
saying I'm the one with dreams for sale
Dreams aplenty, two for ten dimes,
buy a lot and they won't fail...
Going to package them up,
Two for a buck,
I'm going to sell them cheap and keep the water running.
Gimme some Holy Water,
You gotta get me some, you gotta get me some
Holy Water, it's going to wash me clean...
And that Holy Water is going to wash me clean...
Yeah....Yeah...
Well don't waste your time
Don't allow him distractions
If you have to close your eyes
But don't wait for a reaction
Don't stop to breathe
And don't wipe your mouth
You won't be misperceived
I'll figure it out
But whatever you do
For whatever it's worth
If you're gonna tear my world apart
Then I'd prefer
Don't leave me confused
Don't let the lines blur
If you're gonna tell me
You don't love me anymore
Make every word hurt....
Don't walk away now
And don't second guess
You felt this way a moment ago
Why should my tears change any of this?
So whatever you do
For whatever it's worth
If you're gonna tear my world apart
Then I'd prefer
Don't leave me confused
Don't let the lines blur
If you're gonna tell me
You don't love me anymore
Make every word hurt....
Make every word sting
Make every word bleed
Until I'm not gonna wanna love you anymore
Until you're nothing I need
So when I wake up in the morning
For the next 20 years
I won't be wishing
For someone who just disappears
So whatever you do
For whatever it's worth
If you're gonna tear my world apart
Then I'd prefer
Don't leave me confused
Don't let the lines blur
If you're gonna tell me
You don't love me anymore
Make every word hurt....
Make every word hurt (x4)

Well I don't sugarcoat the truth,
my mouth is full of bittersweet.
The poison inside him
fuels all the fire inside of me.
He's a few drinks after work,
The light over the basement door.
Late for dinner every night,
Work clothes on the kitchen floor.
[Chorus]
With his arms around me
I forget everything.
Sometimes I wish my memory served me better.
I know redemption is a powerful thing,
But I don't give a damn,
How I love that man....
He's a hell of a lot of work,
sometimes just to hold in my gut.
An empty box in the attic
I'm sorry I ever opened up.
He's 50 minutes of indifference,
10 minutes of 'look-me-in-the-eye'.
And it underminds all common sense
that I wouldn't just say goodbye.
[Chorus]
With his arms around me
I forget everything.
Sometimes I wish my memory served me better.
I know redemption is a powerful thing,
But I don't give a damn,
How I love that man....
[Bridge]
And every night that I cry
He promises me that he'll try.
And how he tries.
And how he lies......
[Chorus-modified]
With his arms around me
I forget everything.
Sometimes I wish my memory served me better.
I know surrender is a powerful thing,
But I don't give a damn,
I don't give a damn.
I must not give a damn....
cause how I love that man....
Everybody loves my sweetheart
Everybody loves my man
All the other girls wish they had his heart
All the other girls do everything they can
Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my boy
All the women drive me crazy
Telling me how they want to take away my joy
If you knew, if you only knew
If you spent one day in my shoes
Blue, blue, blue...
Well, everybody loves my honey
Everybody loves my love
They all wonder why he loves me
They all want to take, take away his love
If you knew, if you only knew
If you spent one day in my shoes
Blue, blue, blue...
When the stars are singing
and he is up there in the sky
All that I feel is suffering
worried when he might fly
Everybody loves my sweetheart
Everybody loves my boy
All the other girls wish they had his heart
All the other girls want to take away my joy
I'm on my way to the new storefront
Just on the east side
Ten bucks to renew whatever hope you lose first
And then I'm alright
And everyone there defends on their faith
And I can't breathe
I'm as afraid of the things that I'd say
As I am the things inside me
You scare me more than the hard times
I know they're coming around again
You scare me more than the gray skies
Good morning, Mr. Sunshine
Well, I don't turn my back
And I don't turn away
I just sulk in you
If I believed in myself
What would all my friends say?
They'd see through
They could see through
You scare me more than the hard times
I know they're coming around again
You scare me more than the gray skies
Good morning, Mr. Sunshine
Mr. Sunshine, you're so good to me
I could kill you before I'd let you go
Mr. Sunshine, you're so good to me
Well, I cry like a baby
You sing like a bird
And it feels like
You know everything that I say
But not a word that I heard
But it's alright, it's alright
You scare me more than the hard times
I know they're coming around again
You scare me more than the gray skies
Good morning, Mr. Sunshine
You scare me more than the hard times
I know they're coming around again
You scare me more than the gray skies
Good morning, Mr. Sunshine
Scare me more than
Mr. sunshine
Good morning, Mr. Sunshine
(Verse)
Happy for my room
And try to forget it
You kill me, I know,
The memory, I let it.
Hearts don't fly,
But they can run like hell when they have to.
Didn't leave you a note,
I didn't leave you a photo,
I didn't leave you a chance,
But I left you, I guess you know
You're wondering now how long it takes
For I start missing you.
(Chorus)
Cause you ain't worth the time,
You ain't worth the pain,
You ain't worth the spit in my mouth
When I scream out your name.
You ain't worth the life,
They hand out in the town this small
You ain't worth the sound of the TV
From the room down the hall.
On my waiting salt.
(Verse)
Six years of crying,
That's all that you gave me,
Not one more thing,
Not even a baby.
We will close one time,
But I guess God is smarter than him.
You broke every promise,
You broke every whisper
You broke any other moment,
You kissed her and you never thought twice,
You never gave a damn.
(Chorus)
Cause you ain't worth the time,
You ain't worth the pain,
You ain't worth the spit in my mouth
When I scream out your name.
You ain't worth the life,
They hand out in the town this small
You ain't worth the sound of the TV
Coming from the room down the hall.
On my waiting salt.
(Bridge)
All of the salt gathered from the seas
Can be collected from journals and prayers
It take you a month but someday's still lived with a spoon.
To pour on you.
(Chorus)
Cause you ain't worth the time,
You ain't worth the pain,
You ain't worth the spit in my mouth
When I scream out your name.
You ain't worth the cost to repair
The hole in the kitchen dried warm.
You ain't worth the good advice
Written on a dirty bathroom stall.
Boy, am I waiting salt, salt
My waiting salt.
(Verse)
I paid for my room
I try to forget it.
It kill me, I know,
The memory, if I let it.
Hearts don't fly,
Well I can hear you whisper as you're holding your breath
I can crawl deep inside of you and bring out what is left
Now I need to be grounded, how you need to see the sky
You have the wings to master and have the soul to fly
What does love mean to you
While I'm miles away
My lips seem to be moving
But you can't hear a word I say
How can our lives be so different
When we sleep in the same bed
Well I know your life's a burden
Won't you dream with me instead
Well things are never perfect
But oh how hard you try
You need to have a purpose
You need to ask why
Your senses see so differently than mine
Or so it seems
Your heart asks the questions
My heart just dreams
What does love mean to you
While I'm miles away
My lips seem to be moving
But I don't know what to say
How can our lives be so different
When we sleep in the same bed
Well I know your life's a burden
Won't you dream with me instead
Well go ahead and lay your head on my pillow dear
Say goodbye to all your fears
And rest assured there'll be no tears
Right here
Here
Here
What does love mean to you
While I'm miles away
My lips seem to be moving
But you can't hear a word I say
How can our lives be so different
When we sleep in the same bed
Well I know your life's a burden
Won't you dream with me instead?
She lives a few doors down
Says she wants you to take her out
Have some coffee somewhere
Just some coffee
You saw her around in the parking lot
And any plans you had you can break
So wash your face
And let yourself go
Everybody is a sinner
Everybody makes mistakes
And there ain?t nobody
Who needs nobody
Don?t forget to look her in the eye
Laugh and show your smile
There?s not much more to lonely
Than being this lonely
I stood and watched the stars fade
Right there from your eyes
So, baby, I think I know just
What your next lover will be like
You hate cigarettes so she won?t smoke
But she don?t mind this bar you?re in
She sits right up there on that stool
Puts her [Incomprehensible] book down and smiles at you
You think she?s about 5 foot 3
That makes her taller than me
But you?re not thinking about that now, no
It ain?t right to think about that now
I stood and watched all the stars fade
Right there from your eyes
So, baby, I think I know just
What your next lover will be like
And I hope she can fix you
And I hope she?s someone
Who would never let you down
I hope she reminds you nothing of me
And as crazy, as crazy as it sounds
I hope she?s beautiful
?Cause I stood and watched all the stars fade
Right there from your eyes
So, baby, I think I know just
What your next lover
What your next lover will be like
?Cause there ain?t nobody
Who needs nobody
And there ain?t nobody
If I could buy this town
I'd keep it small and rough
Full of third shift dreamers
And high school love
I'd keep the Church of Christ
And the bowling alley open
Where the bud light signs
Crackle while they're glowing
If I could buy this town
If I could buy one night
I wouldn't buy the one you'd think
I'd buy the one when my eyes teared up
By the light above the kitchen sink
And you held me tight
And you begged me not to cry
If I could buy the sweetness of one kiss
Well that's the one I'd buy
If I could buy one night
All the money in the world
Couldn't buy a drop of real love could it?
And it really shouldn't, should it?
If I could buy the stars
I'd polish them so bright
If I could buy your pain
First I'd buy the great big sea
And I'd put that pain inside a box
And bury it so deep
If I could I'd buy you back
The years you worked yourself to death
I would buy and waste your suffering
Until there wasn't any left
If I could buy your pain
All the money in the world
Couldn't buy a drop of real love could it?
And it really shouldn't, now should it
'Cause I'd gladly give you every piece of my whole heart
If I could buy this town
I'd keep the Friday night bleachers
Full of kids falling in love
And unlikely believers
And the firefighters are there
'Cause their kid's in the game
And we don't win too often
But that ain't why we came
Once you're up on the ledge
there's only one way down
So I'll keep you up there
where you're safe and sound
My knuckles are white
Your ankles are red
As you dance from your height
and I lie on the ledge
The killer in me likes to see you cry
The killer in me won't let you,
won't let you die...
I can't say what I feel
in fear you might fall
I'm afraid for you
I'm afraid for us all
The killer in me likes to see you cry
The killer in me won't let you,
won't let you die...
What makes you think you're the only one
to love and lose, and lose...
You put the poison in the soup
Drench the bed with gasoline
and all for the love of you
I'm scrubbing sheets clean
The killer in me who likes to see you cry
The killer in me will not let you die,
won't let you die...
I will not let you die,
I won't let you die...
So my knuckles are white
Your ankles are red
and I'll spend my whole life
keeping you up on the ledge
Keeping you up on that ledge,
When you take the train to midtown to have coffee by yourself
Pull the pictures from the drawer and put them back up on the shelf
When you hear the sound of church bells
And they don't make you wanna cry
And you're not getting drunk just so you can hide
That's how you know
That's how you know
When you open up the curtains - start answering the phone
Stop driving around for hours - cuz you hate going home
When you can talk about it - even say their name
When you start thinking you'll survive even though
You'll never be the same
That's how you know
That's how you know
That's how you know
That's how you know
There's no such thing as a long goodbye
When you wish it would've lasted your whole life
When you don't need a cigarette or a pill to help you sleep
When you don't end every night on the hard wood on your knees
When you wake up one morning surprised to see the world exists
And your eyes ain't full of tears
Your heart ain't full of bitterness
That's how you know, that's how you know
That's how you know, that's how you know
When you're thankful that you ever knew a love this strong
When you finally find the courage to write this song
That's how you know
That's how you know
That's how you know
My life is a grocery store line
A "We'll be just fine"
Don't know how we survive, but we do
My life is an early spring snow
The last thread of hope
That I just keep hanging on to
My life is pieces of paper that I'll get back to later
I'll write you a story, how I ended up here
Why the little things make us and how long it takes us
To figure out what matters the most...
My life is a two dollar beer
Friday nights here
With friends that I've known since high school
My life is an order to go
A rainy car ride back home
And someone you love to lay next to
My Life is pieces of paper that I'll get back to later
I'll write you a story, how I ended up here
Why the little things make us and how long it takes us
To figure out what matters the most...
Someday well I'll look back and wonder
Someday comes around quicker than they told you
Asking "Did I do, what I was suppose to"
In my Life
Don't know Why the little things make us and sometimes it takes us
To damn long to figure what matters the most...
My life is green grass through the snow
A sweet reckless hope
I should have told you I sold my soul to an angel.
I should have told you this world is not my own.
I should have wrapped you, wrapped you like a present.
I should have gotten to you before you were grown.
I should have whispered in your ear when you were lonely.
I should have taken you, taken you by the hand.
I should have told you you were, you are worthy.
I, I should have shown you you are,
You are a beautiful man.
'Cause I want to save you from yourself.
I want to save you from everybody else.
I want to be inside you whenever I can.
I am doing the best I can,
For my beautiful man.
I, I should have told you I would be difficult.
I should have shown you the scars on my soul.
I should have told you I wanted you,
I wanted you to take care of me
without allowing you to gain any of my control.
I want to save you from myself.
I want to save you from everybody else.
I want to be inside you when I can.
I am doing the best I can,
You beautiful man.
I am doing the best that I can
oh, you beautiful man...
I should have told you I was not good enough for you.
I should have whispered
"I am unkind".
I want to save you from yourself.
I want to save you from everybody else.
I want to save you from myself.
I am doing the best I can,
For my beautiful....
Save you from yourself.
I want to save you from everybody else.
I want to save you from yourself.
And I am doing the best I can,
My beautiful man...
I thought he'd love me forever
How forever is easily said
Oh, how love is like liquid
Liquid over my head.
All I wanted was to love him
So I gave him my heart.
The first thing I learned about love is
Things break when you tear them apart.
Will you love me when I'm angry
Will you bring me my spirit when my soul is dry
Will you give me your forever
Will you lay down in this fire?
So my dear are you lonely?
Or are you just the lonely type?
The ones who cry with their lovers
The kind who love out of spite.
Will you love me when I'm angry
Will you bring me my spirit when my soul is dry
Will you give me your forever
Will you lay down in this fire?
I'm not going to ever take away
From the person you're trying to be
So you can stay right there inside yourself
I know everyone wants to be free
On the night my lover left me
I did not beg his stay
Watched a paper bag trying to jump a chainlink fence
And I knew he was just blowing away
Will you love me when I'm angry
Will you bring me my spirit when my soul is dry
Will you give me your forever
I had no warning
I had my heart, my body, my head
Life turned in that circle
My heart had the say
You were so pretty
You were the boy with the smile all his own
Whose hands made me dizzy
When they touched me that way
And if you tell me
You love me, I'll let you in
Use me
Love is a simple thing
Shame me
Stories find everything
When all you were trying to do was beat
All the other boys...
So there went forever
I did not believe in the word after you
Love just leaves stains in the carpet
That never go away
And if you tell me
You love me, I'll let you in
Use me
Love is a simple thing
Shame me
Stories find everything
When all you were trying to do was beat
All the other boys...
Beat all the other boys...
Beat all the other boys...
And I was the stupid girl who let you
Play your game
I felt like plastic or cardboard
And I will never feel the same, never the same
You are the champion
You picked a great player for your game
It must have been so easy
My heart had no say
But if you tell me
You love me, I'll let you in
Use me
Love is a stupid thing
Shame me
Stories find everything
"Like No One Ever Hurt You At All"
Lyrics & Music by Lori McKenna
You tore down that old house
but you left the barn right where it stood.
You said the bones of that building were strong
and the space would do some good.
Well, I was staring one day at the lines
collecting in the dust on the floor.
I'd almost swear you must've been dancin' out there
but I could never be sure.
[Chorus]
Don't you believe in love?
Don't you believe in love?
It's like you're always waiting for the fall.
Can't you just kiss me once,
like no one's ever hurt you at all?
Your father is buried
in that graveyard you pass every day.
And you're not much of a praying man
but when you talk to him, I wonder what you say.
He must've figured you'd be married by now
with a couple of kids.
Oh, but you must've figured you'll do nothing
the way that he did.
[Chorus]
Don't you believe in love?
Don't you believe in love?
It's like you're always waiting for the fall.
Can't you just kiss me once,
like no one's ever hurt you at all?
[Bridge]
I never raised a hand to your face
without caressing it.
I never said a hurtful word to you
without regretting it.
***{And I didn't do you in,
I didn't put you through anything
that should not have been,
oh what wrong has been done to you?}***
***(difficult to transcribe/somewhat inaudible)***
Baby, what's been done to you?
Well, some people keep a closed heart
but I've seen yours open up wide.
And I have loved you like an angel
willing to do anything to get to the other side.
[Chorus-modified]
Don't you believe in love?
Don't you believe in love?
It's like you're always waiting for the fall.
Can't you just kiss me once,
like no one's ever hurt you.....
Can't you just kiss me once,
like no one's ever hurt you.......
Well now I can see the stars
There's no difference between
Jupiter and Mars.
There's a light between the garden
and the sea
Don't let it fall away from me.
You were only there 'cause I can't forget
the things you wear
Or maybe it's the color of your hair
Or your hands that wake in the night.
Well I don't think I could forget you
Even if I could.
The reason that I met you
Is cause God thought I should....should.
Together in the sand
Doesn't matter if we form another way
If we tell the tales that we can play
If it matters to the lost ones
Everywhere it's fine
Oh and maybe it's a matter of time
Maybe something that we both have left behind
Maybe something that we both forgot.
Well I don't wanna forget you
Even if I could.
The reason that I met you
Is cause God thought I should.
And I say roll back a dollar
and don't ask me to lie.
Every season another...(***inaudible***)
It's only a matter, it's only a matter of time.....time.
Let's take it slow,
Hey Josephine,
I loved you since the day you rolled inside of me.
Hey Josephine,
I hope you have the heart.
Well I do not have a picture,
I have never heard your voice.
In 1963 I did not have a choice.
Well, I was only 16 but I loved the boy.
He had a future
which a baby could not destroy.
Hey Josephine,
I loved you since the day you rolled inside of me.
Hey Josephine,
I hope you have the heart to forgive me.
Well, ask me all your questions,
I will tell no lies.
I don't expect you'll understand
or sympathize.
But where I was that moment
was not a good place to be.
I could not protect myself,
nevermind a baby.
Well, hey Josephine,
I loved you since the day you rolled inside of me.
Hey Josephine,
I hope you have the heart...
To forgive me....
I hope you have the heart to forgive me...
Hey Josephine,
I loved you since the day you rolled inside of me.
Hey Josephine,
I hope you have the heart....
Well I do not have a picture,
I've never heard your voice.
The kitchen smells like orange peels
Her stomach turns like a spinning wheel
Put the baby down in her little seat
You should rest now ma'am you should eat
It ain't right you been working all day
All us kids getting in your way
So she goes to bed as soon as the kitchen's clean
That don't mean a thing to you,
But it does to me...
Well I don't know if this part is true
How memories lie they way they do
But I can see her in our living room
With a smile on her face she's dancing to
Judy Garland, Carnegie Hall, Sunday April 23rd
She said her cousin had a balcony seat
That don't mean a thing to you,
But it does to me...
Oh Lord, am I good enough?
When this world spin as hard as it does
We both know how it shakes some people up
So how did you decide to give me so much love
She never said a word to me
About dying, about how she'd leave
In all her pain she would never cry
Me and my best friend Tina would ride our bikes
From Lelland Road up Daily Drive
We took a paper route one summer time
Tina's mom said I was part of the family
That don't mean a thing to you
But it does to me...
No one's had a bigger say
In who I am today.
I swear I've tried to be worthy of
The name they gave me when I was young,
But I ain't that pretty and I ain't that brave,
And my kids have seen me cry
They should have given her name to my sister Marie,
That don't mean a thing to you
You said you were leaving
And it's time for you to go
You tell me to just move on
I don't understand
You're saying it's over but I'm saying no
I never claimed to be brave or strong
But there was a time
When you loved me
Easy for you
You can hold your head up high
She's waiting somewhere across town
But what about me
Without you, who am I
Who am I without here to be your clown
I draw a breath and I cry
Because I was born
For you - my arms to hold you tight
To love you every night
Every night
For you - I could sail across the sky
Swim an ocean baby
I was born for you
You are so coy
Acting like you don't know the cost
The payment I made for your kiss
I was your penny
And baby I feel tossed
All the things that I gave up
All the things that I missed
I draw a breath and I cry
Because I was born
For you - my arms to hold you tight
To love you every night
Every night
For you - I could sail across the sky
Swim an ocean baby
I was born for you...
I was born for you...
Go play your games
Go off with someone else
Tell her the things that you told me
Just hope and pray that I find myself
And when you come running back
You won't find me waiting for you...
Will not, will not find me waiting....
For you - my arms won't hold you tight
I won't love you every night
Every night
For you - I won't sail across the sky
Swim an ocean
I will not cry for you...
I will not cry,
Before you met me I was a fairy princess
I caught frogs and called them prince
and made myself a queen.
Before you knew me I traveled around the world
I slept in castles and fell in love
because I was taught to dream.
I found mayonnaise bottles
and poked holes on top to capture Tinkerbell
And they were just fireflies to the untrained eye
but I could always tell.
I believe in fairytales and dreamers' dreams
like bed-sheet-sails
And I believe in Peter Pan
And miracles and anything I can to get by.....
and fireflies.
Before I grew up I saw you on a cloud.
I could bless myself in your name
and pat you on your wings.
Before I grew up I heard you whisper so loud
"Life is hard, and so is love, child,
Believe in all these things."
I found mayonnaise bottles
and poked holes on top to capture Tinkerbell.
And they were just fireflies to the untrained eye
but I could always tell.
I believe in fairytales and dreamers' dreams
like bed-sheet-sails
And I believe in Peter Pan
And miracles and anything I can to get by.....
and fireflies.
Before you met me I was a fairy princess
I caught frogs and called them prince
and made myself a queen.
Before you knew me I traveled around the world
I slept in castles and fell in love
The ladies line up once they hear you are singing,
each batting an eye like they did long ago.
Now times moves so slow.
Veronica is still the one of your favor.
Your first wife you say as if there were many more.
There is only her...
Will you dance with the ladies who ask you to join them,
sing in their ear as you move them along.
Smile with your eyes when they tell you
they love you as long as you're singing their song.
When wishes are wrapped inside of paper napkins
and prayers are only answered by surprise,
you're a sight for sore eyes.
Will you dance with the ladies who ask you to join them,
sing in their ear as you move them along.
Smile with your eyes when they tell you
they love you as long as you're singing their song.
When waltzing Matilda is all you remember
from 89 years of a life lived so well,
all that you need is a partner to dance with
and share with you heaven and take you from hell,
They don't know your name
of who taught you to dance well.
They're seeing a man
that they loved when they were young.
Love's never undone.
So come dance with the ladies who ask you to join them.
Sing in their ear as you move them along.
Smile with your eyes when they tell you they love you,
Praise the neon lights
The store's not closed up yet
Now everything's alright
so get your cigarettes
Leave me with the house
Leave me with the kids
Leave me to myself
that's what you always did
I'm sleeping with the cowardly lion
Poison in your blood, freight train in your head
Someone's gonna fly
Someone will end up dead...
You threaten every day
So pack your bags and run
Train lines run all day
No matter moon or sun
I'm sleeping with the cowardly lion
Freight train in your head, poison in your blood
Someone's looking for a fight
Someone's looking for some love...
Blame it on the ones who hold you down
Blame it on the ones who let you drown
Smoke up your cigarettes from the corner store,
The cowardly lion's got one hell of a roar...
I'm sleeping with the cowardly lion
I am sleeping with the cowardly lion
Freight train in your head, poison in your blood
Someone's looking for a fight,
Somone's looking for some love...
Well, I?ve been thinkin?, like you?ve been drinkin?
But I know thinkin? is the last thing on your mind
But I?ve been hopin? to get this out in the open
And hopin? we ain?t runnin? out of time
The book I?ve been reading says we need to work this out
We need to talk about our problems if we got ?em
I think I?ve got a drinkin? problem
I can?t hardly get out of bed, I can?t hardly clear my head
Of last night?s spinning, smoky memories
I call in sick to work, I tell ?em my whole body hurts
Yeah, I think this drinkin? might be the death of me
The man down at the meeting says we need to work this out
We need to talk about our problems if we got ?em
We need to talk about our problems if we got ?em
I think I?ve got a drinkin? problem
Oh, baby, you can?t claim this for your own
I swear that every bottle you bring home
Leaves me feeling that much more alone
Like a stranger, yeah, you see it?s my problem too
No, I never touch the stuff, but, honey, I?ll tell you what
You can?t count all the ways it touches me
Baby, you and me, we need to work this out
We need to talk about our problems if we got ?em
I confess I?ve got a drinkin? problem
Baby, I think I?ve got a drinkin? problem
St. Peter says "You picked a real good day"
Your lungs fill back up with air - your worries float away
Jesus smiles - he's a handsome man
He's taller than you thought - eyes so warm - reaching out his hand
In the Holy Kingdom angels sing a hymn
For all your good behavior they handed you your crown & wings
You don't feel the sorrow, there's no pain no fear
Don't forget about me - don't forget about me
I'm still down here
Everyone knew - you were on your way
Earlier than expected, said the papers that day
You saw your family - some for the very first time
There were smiling faces, strawberry cake and a welcome home sign
In the Holy Kingdom angels sing a hymn
For all your good behavior they handed you your crown & wings
You don't feel the sorrow, there's no pain or fear
Don't forget about me - don't forget about me
I'm still down here
Here in the shadow-land - Here where there's doubt
Here where we must learn to live - With what we live with out
Clouds of silver and streets of gold
Where no shadow is cast - and nobodies growing old
You find an old friends and take a walk around
But believe them when they say - "tell you one thing - just don't look down"
In the holy kingdom - angels sing a hymn
Stay there above the clouds now - don't ever she'd one tear
Don't forget about me - don't forget about me,
Next time he tries to leave I'm gonna help him to the door
Won't be no sorrow from me cause there's no sorrow anymore
I tried like hell to make him happy but lord I'm no magician
Just don't know what happened to my sweet disposition...
My daddy and my sister call me and say little girl you sound so tired
I wanna tell them all the truth but instead I just hide it
If ever I feel alone it is alone by my own volition
I just don't know what happened to my sweet disposition...
Sweet disposition, keeps me warm when the world gets cold
Sweet, sweet sweet disposition, when are you gonna save my soul
I believe everyone is good but I've been wrong a time or two
When a friend kicks you in the gut there's not much that you can do
Oh but that friend she was never my friend
The only thing she feels is ambition
Still I'm left searching for my sweet disposition
Repeat chorus
My soul
My mother left me a wedding band and impossible shoes to fill
Something I've always tried to do but I know I never will
If you ask my children about me I wish in their brief description
They say I love them with a true heart and a sweet disposition
Understated, overrated side
Carnival ride
Curtains fadin', threadbare rugs
Real life, the baby stayed up all night
How wonderful, Rhinestone, torn black, saddle shoes
How beautiful, the ones I never get to use
No frills, no fuss
Perfectly us, unglamorous
Frozen dinner, chilly glass of wine
Tastes just fine
Two bread winners, five kids in short time
With eyes just like mine
How wonderful, crowded dinners at the kitchen table
How beautiful, once he reached there, no cable
No frills, no fuss
Perfectly us, unglamorous
No diamonds in our bathtub rings
Peanut butter on every's face
No frills, no fuss
Unglamorous, unglamorous
How wonderful, travel road leading to a front door
How beautiful, old worn socks on a bedroom floor
No frills, no fuss
Perfectly us, unglamorous
Well, Forget about Paris or the Pacific Ocean,
the honeymoon lasted 24 hours
and was a town away....
Then it was you and me
in that little apartment
eight months before the baby came....
Well, some people’s blessings come in disguise
oh, but yours and mine came
with curly hair and blue eyes....
One looks like your mother and one like my dad
we can’t give them everything
but we’re not doin’ so bad....
[Chorus]
You still want me,
You still love me,
You still lie there every night beside me.
Every time you walk away from me
you come running back....
How romantic is that?
How romantic is that.........?
Well, I might meet you at the door with someone’s math homework
or you’ll work a double shift
so we can get some bills paid....
When you get home tonight,
there’ll be someone else sleeping there beside me
with "You Are My Sunshine" in a sweet serenade....
[Chorus]
You still want me,
You still love me,
You still lie there everynight beside me.
Every time you walk away from me
you come running back....
How romantic is that?
How romantic is that.........?
You left a Hallmark card that morning on my bureau
you didn’t know what to write
so you just signed your name....
And that boy that I loved may not have been my hero
but the same is not true
of the man he became......
Well, forget about Paris or even Niagara Falls
we’re lucky to steal a few hours
alone when we can....
But I won’t regret, I won’t regret anything at all
if the only world we see is
outside the windows of our minivan....
[Chorus - modified]
Cause I still want you,
I still love you,
I still lie there every night beside you....
Every time I walk away from you
I come running back...
How romantic is that???
How romantic is that.......?
How romantic......
You still want me,
You still love me,
You still lie there every night beside me...
You still want me,
You still love me,
You still lie there every night, every night, every night.....
How romantic is that?
I spend my whole life climbing ladders
Playing catch with the stars
A million miles away from disaster
And invincible unbreakable hearts
I spend my life floating backwards
And not because I want to be free
I have no choice I must surrender
Close my eyes and Jump from the dream
Cuz the world is full of ups and downs
Highs and lows ain't that the truth
But don't you know that's why
God made ladders & parachutes
I've had love so perfect
Even Heaven looked up to see me there
And I have been so damn broken
Crashing hopelessly through thin air
Cuz the world is made up of ups and downs
Highs and lows ain't that the truth
But don't you know that's why
God made ladders & parachutes
Repeat 1st chorus
Oh don't you know that's why
Praise the neon lights
The store's not closed up yet
Now everything's alright
so get your cigarettes
Leave me with the house
Leave me with the kids
Leave me to myself
that's what you always did

You threaten every day

Freight train in your head, poison in your blood

I'm sleeping with the cowardly lion
I am sleeping with the cowardly lion
Freight train in your head, poison in your blood
Someone's looking for a fight,
Somone's looking for some love...
For some love...
Saturday felt like October
Red on the ground, blue in the sky
We are on fire for the wrong reasons
Fists in my hands, tears in my eyes
But I should be off somewhere feeding the angels
Who will take care of them while I'm away
It's not that they can't live without me
I know that, but they seem to appreciate it
When I stay...
I don't cry very easy
Truth be told, I don't, I don't bruise at all
It's not that my skin isn't fragile
Sometimes I do, I do hit the wall
Tell him I'm off somewhere feeding the angels
The angels still love me even when I am bad
And my shame is like coal and
They're making him diamonds
I don't make them cry out,
And I don't make them feel sad...
Saturday felt like a threshold
I walked through now,
And now I can't turn around
I should be off somewhere feeding the angels
The angels still love me even when I am bad
And my shame is like coal and
They're making him diamonds
I don't make them cry out,
I don't make them feel sad...
No one has to tell me that you're a good man.
He might be about as damn good as they come.
No one has to tell me to be thankful for what I have.
I'm as thankful as anyone.
I can live forever in this house,
forever in your heart.
I still shiver in your arms.
I can live with everything but what you've become
Justify the damage done,
If you were a happy drunk...
That bottle always changes the way you look at me.
So it's the only friend that you've got tonight.
You're like a stranger half-skinned for sympathy.
You don't mind taking it with a fight.
I can live forever in this house,
forever in your heart.
I still shiver in your arms.
I can live with everything but what you've become
justify the damage done
if you were a happy drunk...
It's who you are, it's in your blood,
Aint' nothin' gonna change that part of you
The part that's so damn hard to love...
I still shiver in your arms.
I can live with everything but what you've become
Justify the damage
All the geeks from high school
go on to become rock stars
All the others reach their peak
and then don't know who they are
You can always find them at
the bar downtown talkin' 'bout the old days
You bully boys would chase him
down the halls of that school
The teachers didn't care
'cause they all wished they were cool
You know you'd beat him senseless
if you could, and you always could
Kill the weak, lone star
We all want to be popular
Run him down and by some miracle
We will all become beautiful...
Then the day comes when you hear
his song on the radio
You realize he never made it to the
five-year reunion a few years ago
Where you sat back and drank a beer
to the old class geek who's probably queer
And the fat girl at the prom
the one who had her mother's dress on
She's smiling on the video
and you're the cashier down at the old Texaco
Kill the weak, lone star
We all want to be popular
Run him down and by some miracle
We will all become beautiful...
So you got the day off today from that job that you hate
Your ex-wife is leaving messages on your machine
about how your alimony payment is late
But the big arena's filling up for the show
and you and the boys are gonna go
Kill the weak, lone star
We all want to be popular
Run him down and by some miracle
We will all become beautiful...
Tell all the pretty girls in the beer line
I know jealousy is a terrible roommate
I know judgement's a hard friend
I have seen the look of anger
again and again and again.
I want to be warm and happy,
Don't want to find myself cold.
I want to feel so young and pretty,
But I feel so old.
Preacher says to love thy neighbor.
Listen to the sound of the prophecy
Should others reap the fruit of your labor
you won't find yourself tormented by jealousy...
Well I love my sister, I love my brothers too
Don't want to feel myself
holding resentment towards you.
Preacher says to love thy neighbor.
Listen to the sound of the prophecy
Should others reap the fruit of your labor
you won't find yourself tormented by jealousy,
Sweet jealousy...
Loneliness makes a horrible lover
and hatred can't fill your soul
but it creates for you this illusion that you are whole.
And greed is a good ambition
but passion will treat you right.
I want to live my life by love and appetite.
Preacher says to love thy neighbor.
Listen to the sound of the prophecy
Should others reap the fruit of your labor
you won't find yourself...
Tormented by jealousy...
Jealousy is a terrible roommate,
Judgement is a hard hard hard hard hard friend...
It's a hard friend,
Forget the promises,
Swallow the pain,
give ourselves our sins
and learn to love again.
To look into new eyes is
as hard as it gets.
Everybody lives with a little regret.
What will you say about me
when she asks how'd you know
about the color of the sun
going down to Mexico?
And when she starts to fall
will it scare you at all?
Are you gonna tell the truth
or hide it like a thief?
What will you say about me?
When you look over your shoulder,
will you see my mistakes
or will you see the love
that brought you to a better place?
What will you say about me
when she gets to your heart?
Do you tell her I'm still holding
on to a little part?
And when she starts to fall
will it scare you at all?
Are you gonna tell the truth
or hide it like a thief?
What will you say about me?
What will you say about me
when she gets to your heart?
Will you tell her that I'm still holdin',
holdin' on....
And when she starts to fall
will it scare you at all?
Are you gonna tell the truth
or hide it like a thief?
What will you say, what will you say about me......?
What will you say about me?
There must be something in there
and it's just stuck...
Sometimes I wish I didn't care half as much.
I stare and look at you
and watch you close
Your lips change position and then it shows.
[Chorus]
I just go on and on around in circles
til finally I just cry it out in bed
Everything you think and feel is left
Unsaid.
Sometimes I think you love me and sometimes I don't.
I imagine you'll pour your heart out to me
but I know you won't.
I hate the sound of my voice,
I hate myself,
I try like hell to just figure you out.
[Chorus]
I just go on and on around in circles
til finally I just cry it out in bed
Everything you think and feel is left
Unsaid.
[Bridge]
No words to tell me
the worst thing you could ever say...
No words to tell me
you can't live without me another day,
Another day...
No words to make it better
or tear it all down.
No words, No expression,
No sound...
I just go on and on around in circles
til finally I just cry it out in bed.
Everything I think and feel......
Everything you think and feel
is left
What am I to do with my afternoons
What am I to do with my evenings
Without you, without you
I've never gotten used to these endings
You must have thought it better for us both
You thought it would be fair to let me choke
What am I to do with my afternoons
What am I to have for dinner
I turn my head for you and extend my hand, oh
If only I could touch you, I would feel better
And this loneliness can be such a curse
I never thought you'd be the one to go first
What am I to do now that I wait for you
And you are the one who's off somewhere
Wait for me, wait for me
What if I can't find you when I get up there
This loneliness, it - it is such a curse
Who ever thought you'd be the one to go first
What am I to do..
I turn the lights on in the hallway
Walk down the stairs without a bit of grace
TVs on and the weather man says
It's just another sunny day
Open the curtains in the bay window
Look at the neighbors we don't get to know
All the cars are in the turning lane
And everybody waves
All I ever do is work
All I ever do is pray
But I do know that I have for you
A love that never fades
And it's ok
If it's all I ever do
You and I were gonna leave our little town
Find a bigger city go and settle down
And finally have the chance to see our dreams
Come springing into life
You sold your guitar when the baby came
We gave her Joni as her middle name
And cluttered up the house with fisher price
Never sleeping through the night
All I ever do is work
All I ever do is pray
But I do know that I have for you
A love that never fades
And it's ok
If it's all I ever do
You finally pull into the drive way
We're both exhausted from a long day
You wrap your arms around me with a kiss
You look at me and say
All we ever do is work
All we ever do is pray
But I do know that I have for you
A love that never fades
And it's ok
If it's all I ever do
Well, they ain't gonna make a movie
About a couple of fools like us
No one's gonna write a book
About our little love
You don't get your picture on the local front page
For falling in love at a reckless age,
No, no...
For saying I do when you're 19
In a hand-me-down dress with a pawn shop ring
For having no money for a honeymoon
Cuz you're saving it up for the baby boom
For knowing a love dies hard when it starts this young
Well, you don't get much - no no
But you get a love song...
Well, this Sunday's sermon won't mention
All the work we put into this love
They ain't gonna hang a billboard
Congratulating us
For surviving every rise and fall
For being more hard headed than a wrecking ball, no no
For letting me chase a hopeless dream
For giving up on trying to change me
For drinking your way so far down
I almost thought I couldn't pull you out
But knowing the only thing harder than letting go is holding on
Well, you don't get much - no no
But you get a love song...
Next time a hurricane comes through
They won't name it after us
And how could you paint a picture
That looked anything like love
The 6 o'clock news don't give a damn
That by the grace of God we worked it out again
For working overtime and living week to week
For letting your dreams fall into me
For being a man with a damn true heart
I'm gonna hold you through the hardest parts
For being a love that will last - even after life is gone
You don't get much - no no
When I woke up late,
I overslept into my life
So now it's 5pm
But to me it feels like noon time
I gotta get up, gotta go out
Like some weird dream
I just can't figure out
No one wants to see
A grown woman have to cry
But it's not far to fall
When on the dirt looking at the sky
But I lucked out because he didn't lie
When he told me he loved me, yeah...
You know I shutter when I hear your angry voice
You know me better than I know myself
You told me you'd love me forever, whatever that is
You better -
Cause you love me better than I love myself
I could have wrote that movie
About the teenage marriage that went bad one day
If we broke up, it would suck
But it'd make a good screenplay
But it's a love song because you're in my bed
I got the soundtrack and it's playing in my head,
It's playing in my head and it says...
You know I shatter when I see that look in your eye
Cause you know me better than I know myself
You told me you'd show me the ocean and give me the sky
You better -
Cause you love me better than I love myself
I don't know all the names
For the useless burdens in my soul
But I will lay them down and lay with you and let them go
Feel comfortable underneath my skin
Can't afford to lose this love we are in, this love we are in
I said.......
Cause you know I shatter when I see that look in your eye
You know me better than I know myself
You told me you'd show me the ocean and give me the sky
I said you better -
Cause you love me better than I love myself...yeah..
You better, yeah....
I said now...
I'll find you on a better day
When wings of yours can fly away
Sometime when my smile can say
All a heart need say
I can find you anywhere
In every life I'll find you there
Just give me time to make it clear
To steal a soul away
Well I can see the sun in wintertime
And I know that you can not be mine
Things left alone are never fine
The world and God above
Well I wish you all of happiness
And I know someday you'll find success
But find yourself as nothing less
And know that you are loved
Well the moon and stars sometimes collide
So we can see the brighter side
And in giving what we've been denied
Is all a seed need sow
All a heart need know
Well I can see the sun in wintertime
And I know that you can not be mine
Things left alone are never fine
The world and God above
Well I wish you all of happiness
And I know someday you'll find success
But find yourself as nothing less
And know that you are loved
All of heaven's goals
Is all a heart need know
Well I'll find you on a better day
When wings of yours can fly away
Sometime when my smile can say
Well, I left your life by the side of the road
I got a clear conscience, decoded the code
Your bags are packed, you're already gone
That's the last you'll hear of me
Move on, Move on...
I got a 'For Sale' sign and a brain in my head
I have paid my dues, I'm not crazy or dead
I know life is hard, well so am I
Don't cry for me
Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye...
Cause I have laid down my guns and ammunition
You can go now, you can go now, you can leave now
This is my written permission...
I've been fighting for you for most of my life
I fought as a girlfriend, I fought as a wife
Oh, prisoners they say are no one to love
I am throwing in the towel,
I'm taking of these gloves...
Cause I have laid down my guns and ammunition
You can go now, you can go now, you can leave now
This is my written permission...
So you can tell Susan that you love her
When you look her in the eye...
And you can tell Gina when you look her in the eye.
You can sleep with yourself, you can sleep
With your lies, your lies, your lies, your lies....
I'm OK now - goodbye......
Cause I have laid down my guns and ammunition
You can go now, you can go now, you can leave me now
Someone was cryin? and the bells rang
Then I don?t remember a thing
You were talkin? but the words came
From somebody else
Someone said kiss her and so you did
I was smilin? like a little kid
You kissed my teeth and then we both hid
Inside each other?s arms
All you really need is someone to be here
Someone who?ll never let you disappear
And I will be that witness to your life
This maybe just a softer place to fall
But somebody will answer when you call
And I will be that witness to your life
You got that job and join the union
Fought every urge, I told you to run
Stared down the barrel of an empty gun
And wandered a bit
Stopped listenin? to all your friends
They think this is where life begins and ends
No one reaches, no one transcends
They just learn to live with it
All you really need is someone to be here
Someone who?ll never let you disappear
And I will be that witness to your life
You should never have to be alone
Someone will always call you home
And I will be that witness to your life
All you really need is someone to be here
Someone who?ll never let you disappear
And I will be that witness to your life
Baby, I will be that witness to your life
Up the road, your car comes into view
And from a furlong I just smile at you
Another day I thank the Lord that you
I have been a poet all my life
With really not too much to say
So you can push me anywhere you like
But you can't push me away
My life is written down on papers in my room
And yours is bottled up somewhere
So I'll send you letters from half across the moon
And it will cross your mind but you won't dare
Pieces of me can't help you
Pieces of me can't let you fall down
Where you want to be
I can hold you like water in my hands
Yet you say that you can't leave
But I am dripping wet with things to understand
And you are trying to believe
Pieces of me can't help you
Pieces of me can't let you fall down
Where you want to be
Tired arms can't pull the sun back in the sky
Angry hearts can't remember why they even try
I have been a poet all my life
With really not too much to say
You can push me anywhere you like
But I won't let you push me
Down, where you want to be
Colors confuse you
Light in your eyes will abuse you
You are weak and hollow
Blinded by beliefs that I cannot swallow
The world will condemn you
Your beliefs will release but never defend you
You are cold but you boil
You are lower than dirt but not worth the soil
So believe in yourself
Because far behind the bars you'll have nobody else
And the hall to a dead man's cell is long
But I'll be the one in the pink sweater
Dancing around when you're gone
So tell me what were you thinking?
Can't blame it on drugs, can't blame it on drinking
Can't say we'll forgive it
Cross burning and blazes for the worst kind of bigot
So believe in yourself
Because far behind the bars you'll have nobody else
And the hall to a dead man's cell is long
And I'll be the one in the pink sweater
Dancing around when you're gone
Yeah I'll be the one in the pink sweater
Dancing around when you're gone
And the martyrs run like thieves
While hang men dangle from trees
But you won't feel a thing
I can't believe that your last name is King
But I heard God
I heard God's black
So what you gonna do when you're up against that?
Think He's got a noose ready for you?
Think He's got a chain and a truck and He's bullshit at you?
So believe in yourself
Because far behind the bars you'll have nobody else
And the hall to a dead man's cell is long
But I'll be the one in the pink sweater
Dancing around when you're gone
Yeah I'll be the one in the pink sweater
Dancing around
The space between stars,
A dark place that sometimes heavies a heart,
I let it hold mine.
I didn't know what I would do
But now I know you...
I put it behind me
And learned to be happy
I busied my life
Found someone to hold me
It was the best love my heart ever knew,
But now I know you...
Now I know how the leaves feel
The moment it rains,
Now I know the moon's pride
Every time the days change,
And now I know how beautiful
The sound of one name can be...
I won't say it's not cold,
I won't say it's all easy.
The troubles that're just no match
For the strength that you give me.
I used to think love could be cruel,
But now I know you...
Now I know how the leaves feel
The moment it rains,
Now I know the moon's pride
Every time the days change,
And now I know how beautiful
The sound of one name can be...
Now I know,
Now I know,
Now I know the reasons we're put on this earth...
Now I know how every prayer needs to be heard...
Now I know a love that I couldn't possibly ever deserve...
'Cause now I know you...
I used to think love could be cruel,
But now I know you...
Now I know you.
Now I know, now I know you...
Now I know you.
Now I know,
Once you saw the sun following me
you knew I'd never be the one to fulfill your prophecy
How dare I love you, what gives me the right
Baby give me one kiss goodnight...
We lie on our backs and the sun is fleeting
You never promised me the world
and if you did I mistook your meaning
So you can speak to me in metaphors and lies
Baby it's okay to give me one kiss goodnight...
We've been through this all before
We're just pushing along and searching for more
But I'm telling you to open up your eyes
and close them again and give me one kiss goodnight...
We'll never make it this way day after day
When "I love you" just becomes another phrase to say
Still there's something when you look me in the eye
Really look at me and give me one kiss goodnight...
Yeah, one kiss goodnight...
Look at how we've captured ourselves here
We're holding on to something that's mostly fear
But I'm telling you to open up your eyes
and close them again and give me one kiss goodnight...
Yeah, one kiss goodnight...
One kiss goodnight...
One kiss goodnight....
One kiss goodnight, one kiss goodnight, one kiss goodnight...
Laundry hangs by a wire
in our yard but I've no desire
to go and pick it off one shoulder at time
But I must, how it calls me
Broomed out the rugs in the hallway
Another day again, not a moment goes by
But I've left my head in your jacket
Could you check there, I think you must have it
Because I have no,
no desire to leave...
The TV must be the devil
You see me staring, I'm able
to fetch next great silver bus out of town
But I've left my head in your jacket
Could you check there, I think you must have it
Because I have no,
no desire to leave...
To leave, No...
Well I've chopped the wood for the fire
and I should be, but I do not tire
The kindling sparks and up the fire goes
And I've left my head in your jacket
Could you check there, I think you must have it
Because I have no,
no desire to leave...
Leave....
Leave....
It?s late enough, all your kids should be home
The policeman says as he takes your beer for his own
You remember, wondering what his wife thought
About his occupation
He knows that you were just chasing a dream
To the town line and back and over again
So he winks at your girls
And he tells you all, I'll see you later
I was stealing kisses from a boy
Now I'm begging affection from a man in my house dress
Don't you know who I am? Don't you know who I am?
Standing in your kitchen
It's late enough, your husband's dinner is cold
So you wrap it up and leave it for him on the stove
It's probably the traffic again
Or another important meeting
You haven't talked to an adult all day
Except your neighbor, who drives you crazy
When he finally gets in
He's sure not in the mood for talkin'
I was stealing kisses from a boy
And now I'm, I'm begging affection from a man in my house dress
Don't you know who I am? Don't you know who I am?
I'm standing in your kitchen
And hours become days, and days become years
And you could burn down this town, if they made matches from fear
'Cause you're no worse off than anybody else
Hey, don't you even know, don't you even know yourself
So you're standing outside your high school doors
The ones you walked out of twenty years before
And you whisper to all of the girls
Oh run, run, run
I was stealing kisses from a boy
Now I'm, I'm begging affection from a man in my house dress
Don't you know who I am? Don't you know who I am?
Take a look at who I am, take a look at who I am
In the depths of the deep blue sea
There's a blue as blue as me
Where a quiet symphony
Plays for the lonely
I could just let it all go
Sink down to the world below
Where I don't breathe but I don't know
'Cause I'm breathless
When it's love
It will rain sometimes
When it's love, it will pour
Pour
I don't know where my lover went
But I know that he took the rent
And I know that he went
And spent all my loving
And I'm not rich but I don't care
I'll find that boy anywhere
I'll walk the land, fly the air
And tread water
When it's love
It will rain sometimes
When it's love, it will pour
Pour
If the moon could sing a song
With the symphony in the blue beyond
They'd tell me
He was really gone forever
When it's love
It will rain sometimes
When it's love, it will pour
When it's love
It will rain sometimes
When it's love, it will pour
Pour, pour, pour
It will pour
It will pour
They say it ain't complicated
Any fool can understand
Until the fuse is lit and
It blows up in your hand
It all looks good on paper
Step by step, you follow the plan
In the sky watch the desperate vapor
Til It blows up in your hand
Love is rocket science
What comes up it must come down
In burning pieces on the ground
We watch it fall
Maybe love is rocket science after all
Not if, but when, you crash and burn
Somehow you survive
But you've touched the hem of heaven
For a time you felt alive
CHORUS
From the distance in the twilight
Love is such a beautiful thing
Dry your eyes beneath the night sky
And I'll hold you, I'll hold you
I'll hold you like your dream
Love is rocket science
What comes up it must come down
In tragic pieces on the ground
It's worth it all
It’s a big mean world.
How many times I’ve told you
That if you don’t believe in magic
The meaner it will seem.
May my mistakes
Be the biggest ones you’ve shouldered.
Make your dreams triumph
My dreams…
You still never cease to amaze me.
You’ve made yourself some plans
And you’ve got somewhere to go.
Our time together these days is (?)engaging(?)
I just wish we could all age slow…
But you’re a grown up now,
Grown up now.
Grown up now,
And your future looks so bright.
Every now and then
You still look like a baby.
Most of the time you’re still
the best damn thing in my whole life.
And I’ll never give you half
of what you gave me.
I think it’s fair to say
“Kid, you taught me right”…
Cause you’re a grown up now,
Grown up now.
Grown up now,
And the future looks so bright.
So bright,
so bright…
And there’s a picture of me when I was younger
Sittin’ on a picnic table
With the same eyes that you have now.
And then I had you and your brothers
And we were just babies.
So I sure don’t know how
You’re a grown up now.
That you’re a grown up now,
Grown up now.
You’re a grown up now,
And your future looks so bright.
Oh so bright, so bright.
So bright, so bright.
So bright, so bright…...
You know when I'm coming home
You know when I'm coming to bed
You know when I tell you that I love you
I mean every word I said
You know I'm a bit too proud
You know that I know how to pray
You know I won't give this up unless I have to give it up
You know I won't walk away
But baby you're like a diesel truck
Shifting gears and the pedals stuck
Headed straight to the edge and showing no signs of slowing
And I don't have the luxury of knowing
You know that I like to dance
But only when I'm dancing with you
You know I must be bad at lying
Cuz I've only ever told you the truth
But just when I think you're a hurricane
You freeze right over and all that rain
Turns to ice and your whole world just starts snowing
And I don't have the luxury of knowing
Damn it must be easy
Being in love with someone so blind
Cuz - I'll tell you right now the only thing I really know
Is that you might change your mind
Any day you could change your mind
You know when I'm coming home
You know when I'm coming to bed
Repeat chorus
And I don't have the luxury of knowing
You know that I'm a bit too proud
I don't deserve anything I get
Things just come easy to me
Like the sun in the morning on a blanket of clouds
And other things that you don't see
And I don't deserve my family
I am the youngest and they all love me
And I don't feel pain
But I don't feel free sometimes
And I will shatter because I don't bounce
Feel weight on my shoulder
From something that weighs just an ounce
Like life since the moment that we met
But I don't deserve anything I get
I don't deserve anything I get
I am self-centered and weak
And I don't feel your pain or your emptiness
Or feel sorry for you when you bleed
And I don't deserve my body
It may not be perfect but it works for me
And I can walk and I can see the sky
But I will shatter because I don't bend
And all that I know is that you are my friend
And I love you more than any record ever set
But I don't deserve anything I get
Well I don't deserve anything I get
People just take care of me
And I'll never be sorry for the way I see you
Or just sorry for the way you see me
Because I will shatter and I will break
And I'm usually the first one to make a mistake
Oh but God only gives us as much as we can take I bet
But I don't deserve anything I get
When the angels came down did they give you a choice
Would they have let you stay where you were?
Not to live here in pain, should not bring you shame
And the light is so hard to deter
Did the gates of Heaven look just as you thought?
Did sister Mary describe them quite well?
Years of Catholic school were all good to you because
You were the angel who fell.
I am the one who will never die young
I am a martyr and I can not hide
But I'm not a winner, I'm just brilliantly bitter
I'm sealed by my skin, but broken inside
Angels are fragile and devils are hot
And life is a masquerade
Colors will blend and hearts will all mend
Just tell me you were never afraid
I am the one who will never die young
I am a martyr and I can not hide
But I'm not a winner, I'm just brilliantly bitter
I'm sealed by my skin, but broken inside
And there are babies laughing and children running
Saying "read me a book, sing me a song"
And I was the one who I felt so so sorry for
But you are the one who is gone
So will you save me a seat if I make it that far?
Will you even know that I am the one?
I will be old for the angels have told me
That I will never die young.
Cause I am the one who will never die young
I am a martyr and I can not hide
But I'm not a winner, I'm just brilliantly bitter
I'm sealed by my skin, but broken inside...
And I will be old for the angels have told me that I -
Will never die young...
Don't judge me,
I will judge myself.
I will lie in my bed at night
wide awake or asleep.
I will feel pain
when I know I have given it.
Everything I put out to the world
I know comes back to me.
But when angels hear the devils callin'
and my vision's unclear I got no sense at all
I'm just hoping I will obey my conscience
I want to learn
how to be righteous...
I saw it on a TV show
I bought the book you know
Paid attention when I thought
the teacher was talking to me
But it's not easy no
to get over, let it go
All these feelings that are burning
and building up inside of me
But when angels hear the devils callin'
and my vision's unclear I got no sense at all
I'm just hoping I will obey my conscience
I want to learn
how to be righteous...
So I'll look at all I have and I will claim it.
Won't let anybody else ever tell me who I should be.
I'll look in the mirror and gaze in my children's eyes,
and I will not give a damn about
what anybody else thinks of me.
And when questions come, I will answer right.
Be true to myself, need be put up a fight.
Will not heed to greed, I will obey my conscience.
I want to learn,
I need to learn,
How to be righteous...
So when angels hear the devils callin'
and my vision's unclear I got no sense at all
I'm just hoping I will obey my conscience.
I want to learn,
I need to learn,
It's finally breaking me down
To my credit I feel like I held on as long as I could
I barely recognize myself now
I'd teach my heart to lie if I thought that it would
I don't need the whole world to think I'm special
I don't need him to hang the stars in the sky
Pay for all my sins or save me from drowning
But wouldn't it be nice - If he tried
It's finally tearing me apart
An impossible mending you can't see from the outside
No one knows where all the pieces are
Do you love me I say, "sure" he replied
I don't need the whole world to think I'm special
I don't need him to hang the stars in the sky
Pay for all my sins or save me from drowning
But wouldn't it be nice
Oh wouldn't it be nice
If his eyes would light up - when he spoke my name
If he'd run to catch me in his arms
At the end of the day
I don't need the whole world to think I'm special
I don't need him to pull the stars from the sky
Just to string up my name in tiny sparkling lights
But wouldn't it be nice
Wouldn't it be nice,
There's a hole wearing through this couch of mine
And all the cushions are falling out
One little piece at a time
You might see yourself in me
But I don't see nobody I know
This isn't the way I figured it would be
When I figured it a long time ago
There's a rule me and my little boy have
You've got to say 'I love you' before you close your eyes
Then he can dream himself to sleep and I can pray or cry
One thing I have taught him well is to never wonder why
why wonder why
I see Mars, reflecting in my little boy's brown eyes
And he says "Mama, I'm going to get there someday"
And I say "Fly."
Well, you can hold the whole entire world in your hands
Or you can borrow all of your lessons from me
Life is not a lesson son, I tell him life is just a dream
And it's not as bad as it looks right now, but nothing's as
bad as it seems, not as it seems...
I see Mars, reflecting in my little boy's brown eyes
And he says "Mama, I'm going to get there some-
Mama, I'm going to get there someday"
And I say "Fly."
Well, there's a hole wearing through this heart of mine
And all of the filling is falling out
one piece at a time, but...
I see Mars, reflecting in my little boy's brown eyes
And he says "Mama, I'm going to get there some -
Mama I'm going to get there someday"
