From there, it quickly spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. Cases also appeared in Senegal and Nigeria, and a separate outbreak appeared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Today, Liberia lies is at the center of the epidemic, with more than 3,000 cases of infection. About half of them have been fatal. As President Barack Obama announced that he would be sending American military personnel to West Africa to help combat the epidemic, VICE News traveled to the Liberian capital of Monrovia to spend time with those on the front lines of the outbreak. In Part 1, we meet confused and distressed people trying to receive treatment in the increasingly chaotic city, and speak to an ambulance driver doing his best to aid the sick. Ebola Outbreak Liberia President lifts State of Emergency | BREAKING NEWS 14 NOV 2014 For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has lifted the state of emergency imposed to control an Ebola outbreak that has ravaged the country. She said the move did not mean "the fight is over", although numbers of new infections were no longer increasing. The confirmed death toll from the virus is now 5,160 people, almost all of them from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. Meanwhile, clinical trials to find an effective treatment for Ebola are due to start in West Africa next month. The medical charity Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF), which has been helping lead the fight against the virus, says three of its treatment centres will host three separate research projects. 'New hotspots' In nationwide address, President Johnson Sirleaf said that night curfews would be reduced and weekly markets could take place across Liberia. She added that preparations were being made for the re-opening of schools. The state of emergency imposed in August had allowed the local authorities to curb movement in the worst-hit areas of the country, including the capital Monrovia. The lifting of the emergency comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) said "there is some evidence that case incidence is no longer increasing nationally in Guinea and Liberia". However, some reports suggest that new fresh hotspots have emerged in Liberia, the Associated Press reports. VICE News Exclusive: Part 1 of "The Fight Against Ebola" - http://bit.ly/Ebola-Part-1 West Africa is being plagued by a new outbreak of Ebola — a terrifying disease that causes its victims to bleed to death from the inside out. Ebola has no cure, and the latest epidemic is spreading fast. VICE News visited Liberia, where many feel the new outbreak began, borne from the bushmeat markets of Lofa. Western scientists feel that the consumption and preparation of meat from monkeys, fruit bats, and other forest animals is behind the transmission of Ebola, and possibly a new supervirus, which if left uncontrolled could kill a third of the world's population. Conventional methods to control the outbreak were "not having an adequate impact", the UN's health agency added. At least 2,100 people have died of the virus in the West African states of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria this year. The WHO says 79 health workers have died from the virus. Organisations combating the outbreak needed to scale-up efforts "three-to-four fold", the WHO said. It highlighted Liberia's Montserrado county, where 1,000 beds were needed for infected Ebola patients but only 240 were available, leading to people being turned away from treatment centres. Taxis being used to transport infected patients appeared to be "a hot source of potential virus transmission", the WHO said. The Ebola disease spreads between humans by direct contact with infected blood, bodily fluids or organs, or indirectly through contact with contaminated environments. The current outbreak has mortality rate of about 55%. Liberia has the highest number of reported cases and deaths, with more than 1,000 casualties so far.
Ebola crisis: Infections 'slowing in Liberia' | BREAKING NEWS 30 OCT 2014 For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS The World Health Organization (WHO) says there has been a decline in the spread of Ebola in Liberia, the country hardest hit in the outbreak. The WHO's Bruce Aylward said it was confident the response to the virus was now gaining the upper hand. But he warned against any suggestion that the crisis was over. The WHO later said the number of cases globally had risen more than 3,000 to 13,703 since its last report, but that this was due to reporting reasons. The number of deaths was put at 4,920, roughly the same as the last report four days ago. All but 10 of the deaths have been in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. The latest WHO figure of 13,703 cases is a significant leap on its previous situation report on Saturday, which showed cases rising above 10,000 for the first time - to 10,141. But Dr Aylward, the WHO's assistant director general, said that this increase was due to data being updated with old cases, rather than new cases being reported. Saturday's situation report put the death toll at 4,922. The similar death toll in the latest report was mainly a result of a revision of the Liberian statistics. Cases there rose from 4,655 to 6,535 but reported deaths dropped from 2,705 to 2,413. Deaths in Guinea rose from 926 to 997 and in Sierra Leone from 1,281 to 1,500. Liberia's Red Cross said its teams collected 117 bodies last week, down from a high of 315 in September. Treatment centres also have empty beds available for patients. Dr Aylward said : "It appears that the trend is real in Liberia and there may indeed be a slowing." A patient suspected of suffering from the deadly Ebola virus left quarantine in Monrovia to search for food at a local market. The video shows him being chased and finally being caught by doctors. He is forced back into an ambulance while scared and angry crowds watched on. One local woman said care for Ebola patients was so inadequate they were not even being fed. “The patients are hungry, they are starving. No food, no water. The government need to do more,” she said. More than 1,550 people in four West African countries have died from the virus since the outbreak was first recorded in March. Liberia has the highest infection rate with around 700 deaths out of 1,327 suspected and confirmed cases. What is in the news today? Bernice Dahn, a deputy health minister, said she had no symptoms but wanted to take every precaution. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says more than 3,000 people have died from Ebola in West Africa. Liberia has been the worst hit by the disease, accounting for 1,830 deaths - 150 in the last two days alone. Health workers have been particularly vulnerable to the virus, which is spread by the infected bodily fluids of patients. Health organisations recommend isolating people for at least 21 days, which is the maximum incubation period for the virus. 'Every precaution' Ms Dahn told the BBC on Saturday that she herself had decided to go into quarantine and wanted to abide by that rule. She said she had not come into contact with any other infected people, apart from the office assistant who died this week, but wanted to take every precaution. Ebola Liberian Health Workers Plan Strike For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS Liberian health officials are appealing to nurses and medical assistants not to go ahead with a national strike, as the Ebola epidemic continues. The National Health Workers Association wants an increase in the monthly risk fee paid to those treating Ebola cases. In the US, President Barack Obama has directed more steps to be taken to ensure high safety procedures when dealing with suspected Ebola patients. A health worker treating an Ebola victim has herself caught the virus. Liberia's Assistant Health Minister Tolbert Nyenswah said a strike would have negative consequences on those suffering from Ebola and would adversely affect progress made so far in the fight against the disease. The government says the scale of the epidemic means it now cannot afford the risk fee originally agreed. The risk fee is currently less than $500 a month, on top of basic salaries of between $200-$300. Staff are now seeking a risk fee of $700 a month. he health workers also want personal protective equipment and insurance. Ninety-five of their colleagues have so far died from Ebola. Liberia is one of the countries worst affected by the epidemic. More than 4,000 people have so far died in the outbreak. Africa: War is Business reveals how war economies come into being in Africa, and how they are maintained. The film investigates the causes and effects of these economies, and where we as Western consumers fit into the equation. The film follows Prince Jaime de Bourbon de Parme, son of Princess Irene of the Netherlands, as he travels through Sierra Leone, Liberia and Congo looking for the cause of these wars in Africa and the role the continent's natural resources play in creating conflict. He wonders how countries so rich in these resources could be so overwhelmed by poverty. Accountability Group Sierra Leone)

In this video, I go over some reasons and examples of how Ebola is destroying the Liberian economy in South Africa. The disease is seriously wrecking an economy that has already had a ton of turmoil and is on life support. The stress that it is causing is ensuring that Liberia remains one of the poorest nations on earth. Liberia is one of the largest recipients of American aid and is our ally in Africa, we have some obligation to help the nation, but alas, most of the help goes to swindling natural resources for the small political class there and here, same story, different day SSDD.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Liberia's president on Tuesday called for an international aid plan to help rebuild economies in West Africa once Ebola is under control. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said Tuesday that "we need our international partners to remain committed to us," as the number of deaths from the disease approaches 10,000. Sirleaf told fellow regional leaders and delegates at a major international conference on Ebola in Brussels that rebuilding economies devastated by the outbreak is a long-term and costly task. She said that "the most important long-term response to Ebola rests on plans and strategies for economic recovery," adding that "this will require significant resources, perhaps even a Marshall Plan." The outbreak is focused in an area of West Africa about the size of France, with a population of about 20 million people, and where infrastructure is limited. Even if the number of new Ebola cases in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone has dropped significantly, bringing it down to zero will still take a significant effort. Ebola has hurt the three countries' already fragile economies, shifting resources resulting in other health care problems and hurting business as people grew scared to leave their homes or go to markets. Some $4.9 billion has been pledged internationally to the Ebola effort, but less than half, some $2.4 billion, has actually been disbursed.

The First Liberian Civil War was an internal conflict in Liberia from 1989 until 1997. The conflict killed over 200,000 people and eventually led to the involvement of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and of the United Nations. The peace did not last long, and in 1999 the Second Liberian Civil War broke out. Samuel Doe had led a coup d'état that overthrew the elected government in 1980, and in 1985 held elections that were widely considered fraudulent. There had been one unsuccessful coup by a former military leader. In December 1989, former government minister Charles Taylor moved into the country from neighboring Côte d'Ivoire to start an uprising meant to topple the Doe government. AFRICA NEWS : A call to strike largely ignored by Liberian health workers, this despite some calls for 'danger money' to treat Ebola-infected patients. We cross to Monrovia for the latest. Also, Madagascar's ex-president Marc Ravalomanana is back on the Indian Ocean island, for the first time since he was deposed in a 2009 coup. And as campaigning for Mozambique's presidential elections draws to a close would-be voters call for key issues such as social inequality and unemployment to be adressed.
Health workers across Liberia went on strike Monday to demand danger money to care for the sick at the heart of a raging Ebola epidemic that has already killed dozens of their colleagues. Duration: 01:11
As of 22 October 2014, a delegation of 53 Cuban health workers arrived in Liberia to help fight the Ebola outbreak. The Cuban team consists of nurses, doctors, epidemiologists and intensive care specialists. Having received an initial Ebola training in Cuba, all team members received a second training in Liberia on how to work in an Ebola treatment unit. Being one of the first foreign medical teams to respond to the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, the Cuban delegation will stay in the country for 6 months. They will work in shifts in smaller teams mainly in the newly opened Ebola treatment unit located at the former Ministry of Defence compound in Monrovia.

Soon there will be 700 beds for treating Ebola patients in Monrovia. But medical staff are among the first victims, and in the Liberian capital, half of the health centers are shut and just one hospital is functioning. Many of the city’s inhabitants—pregnant women, children suffering from malnutrition or malaria and road casualties—are without access to medical care. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is concerned with protecting health workers providing all kinds of medical care.
One key reason ebola has spread so quickly is that local health services just can't cope. In Liberia many public hospitals have closed because staff and patients are too scared. For many people, that's meant making some desperate choices.CCTV's Katerina Vittozzi is in the capital, Monrovia reports.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is doing all it can to fight the Ebola outbreak in Monrovia, Liberia, including rapid scaling up of its facilities in order to treat the growing number of patients. The health care system is overwhelmed in Monrovia - some health workers have died and some have fled. Medical facilities are far too overstretched and people are suffering from a lack of health care, not just for Ebola, but also for all other medical needs.
Major General Darryl Williams, commander of the joint task force assigned to fight the Ebola epidemic in Liberia, says the mission is "moving forward on all fronts," despite a challenging physical environment. "It rains a lot here," he told reporters on Thursday. "I think we didn't realize how wet it would be here, and that's become somewhat of a challenge." A Pentagon spokesman also mentioned weather as a complicating factor: "I think we need to all be mindful of the fact that it's very hard to get infrastructure established down there in Liberia. First of all, it's rainy season, it's monsoon season. There are hours and hours every day where our troops simply can't get to work because of the rain," Rear Admiral John Kirby said in an interview on Thursday with al Jazeera. "There's also, in some of the places where we're putting these emergency treatment units, they're in real remote locations. There's not only no road, but roads that do exist are dirt and therefore are often mud. So it's very, very hard to get stuff established. It's going to take a little time. The Climate Prediction Center, an agency of the National Weather Service, said on Thursday the El Nino weather phenomenon is favored to occur in the next 1-2 months and last into next spring in the Northern Hemisphere. The forecast marks the strongest prediction yet from the U.S. weather forecaster after CPC went on El Nino watch earlier this year. The CPC said in its monthly forecast "This El Nino will likely remain weak throughout its duration." El Nino, the warming of sea surface temperatures in the Pacific, can cause flooding and heavy rains in the United States and South America and can trigger drought conditions in Southeast Asia and Australia. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/environment/~3/K-AZXVwXBP8/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

U.S. military from Fort Bragg, North Carolina trained on Friday (October 10 ) in safety procedures to avoid exposure to the deadly Ebola virus ahead their deployment in West Africa. U.S. troops are scheduled to deploy to Monrovia, Liberia, by the end of October as part of the Joint Force Command for "Operation United Assistance," the Department of Defense announced in September. A group of soldiers carefully listened to instructors from the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, who spelled out the dangerous of Ebola: It kills nearly half of the people it infects. "We're taking every measure that we can to ensure that the soldiers understand you know how to operate in an environment that may have that may become exposed to Ebola," said Mike Talley, U.S. Commander, 44th Medical Brigade. Military officials said soldiers will not be working with Ebola victims, but will be setting up infrastructure that support other agencies. With the previously announced unit deployments, this will bring the total Army commitment to about 3,200 soldiers. The Ebola virus has killed nearly 4,000 people in West Africa since March in the largest outbreak on record. It causes haemorrhagic fever and is spread through direct contact with body fluids from an infected person. The World Health Organization has said it sees no evidence of the disease being brought under control in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. For this year World Malaria Day, I have decided to highlight an organization who works in the field to fight malaria in emergency situations. I have worked with them and witnessed the great job they are doing in the field, so these few images will show you some of their activities. The MENTOR Initiative is a unique international NGO, registered in the UK. This specialist group is dedicated to providing essential disease control and technical and operational support in emergencies and recovering crises. MENTOR directly assists national and international humanitarian groups and authorities working in the most fragile states to improve the way in which they can respond to crises that befall them. MENTOR has established and delivers large-scale and effective malaria, and related, disease control directly through to the affected communities and, where possible, utilising the existing health delivery system. The unique operational relief model developed by The MENTOR Initiative has proved highly effective in three core areas: •Conflict-based crises such as eastern Chad •Rapidly onset natural disasters such as flooding in eastern Kenya, the Asian tsunami, and the Yogyakarta earthquake •Recovery stages that follow these crises such as Angola and Liberia Fragile states present the greatest challenge to achieving the World Millennium Goals. These states are home to just 14% of the worlds population but these represent the poorest communities on earth who suffer the greatest burden of disease and malnutrition. Fragile states are those most affected by conflict or natural disasters. In sub-Saharan Africa today over 25% of the total population are living in countries severely affected by conflict or population displacement. These countries include the most malaria-endemic regions in the world. Malaria is the number one cause of morbidity and mortality in these countries and constitutes the major part of the patient-load on the health system. Over 30% of the worlds annual malaria deaths occur in these few countries as a direct result of poor access to effective malaria prevention and case management services. Some fragile states in Africa, Asia and South America are increasingly at risk of malaria outbreaks, as well as the gradual re-emergence of malaria and related diseases. This is in part due to global warming and the resultant changes in the world's weather patterns, which is enlarging the environment in which the malaria vector, the anopheles mosquito, can thrive. Natural crises such as the regular flooding in the horn of Africa, the current Asia floods, the tsunami and the recent earthquake in Yogyakarta are dramatic examples of how the malaria burden and risk to highly vulnerable populations can suddenly increase. New, highly effective malaria control tools and approaches have been developed in recent years and the WHO has made recommendations that malaria endemic countries incorporate these new protocols in their National Malaria Control Programme (or equivalent). However, this is far from simple to achieve and requires considerable support from the international community. To establish effective malaria control in these challenging settings demands high levels of co-ordination and standardization across humanitarian agencies and agreement and buy-in from relevant country authorities.

The creators of a light powered purely by gravity hope it will provide an alternative to toxic kerosene in the developing world. Almost a fifth of the world's population has no access to electricity so have to use other means to heat and light their homes - which are often expensive, dangerous and unhealthy. But the team at Deciwatt have created the Gravity Light, which they hope will get millions of people in the developing world away from kerosene and out of the poverty-fuel trap. Kerosene consumes between 10% and 20% of the income of the very poor and a single kerosene lamp burning for four hours a day emits 100kg of carbon dioxide a year. Quaqua installs the trial Gravity Light in his home in Liberia The World Bank estimates 780 million women and children breathe kerosene fumes equivalent to inhaling 40 cigarettes a day and these fumes kill an estimated 1.5 million in Africa every year. Deciwatt was asked by the charity, Solar Aid, to develop a viable alternative to kerosene lanterns for under $10 (£6). "We found very quickly that the target price that they wanted to achieve was impractical based on current technology with solar panels and batteries combined," says Jim Reeves, who developed Gravity Light with fellow designer Martin Riddiford. "It got us thinking about how to tackle the problem in a way that could achieve the objective within the target price." Janitor Lorenzo Garneo fills a Gravity Light bag in Liberia Wind-up lights can take two or three minutes to charge but Gravity Light takes three seconds to lift for 30 minutes of light. It uses a mechanism similar to a grandfather-clock. A bag is filled with 10kg of material, found in the local environment. This could be soil, rocks or rubble. The bag is suspended from a riveted plastic cord which is suspended below the light. Once the bag is lifted, a series of gears turn powering a plastic generator, which turns the light on. The generator can be used to recharge other devices including radios and batteries. Through a successful fundraising campaign, a prototype of Gravity Light is now being trialled in 26 countries through 55 partner organisations. Mr Reeves says the product has taken more than four years to get to this stage and had many iterations - but that the feedback from the user trials was essential. A young girl helps one of the village elders construct Gravity Light "We've had amazing feedback from Liberia, the Philippines, Guatemala," he said. "They're just the first indication. In essence the product is delivering what people need." Lorenzo Garneo, head janitor at Our School, Liberia voluntarily broke a panel in his false ceiling to install the light. He struggled at first with the hooks but was particularly excited at the prospect of having light for his children's room. There are seven in his household. Taking the product to scale and making it affordable is one of the many challenges the company now faces. "They need to figure out a service package that will get this in the hands of the target users and allow them to pay for it over a period of time," says Rob Law, the founder of Trunki, the children's luggage firm which has grown across the world. Lorenzo Garneo installs Gravity Light in his children's bedroom in Liberia Gravity Light say they are looking in the medium term at introducing in-country assembly and then ultimately in-country manufacture, which would strip out import duties. "The end cost for the user will be reduced and you can build a local supply chain that is built on a local business, which is all good for the local economy," says Mr Reeves. To achieve the target retail price of between $5 (£3) and $10 (£6), the team is planning to launch Gravity Light in both high-income and low-income economies in parallel. They will then use profits and donations from the high-income markets to initially subsidise distribution and associated costs in low income markets. For now, the main focus for the team is raising investment and seeking partners to move the project forward, in order to achieve their goal of bringing safe and efficient light to the developing world.
WHO: 21,000 Ebola cases by November if no changes WARNING: OVER 1 MILLION EBOLA CASES BY END OF JANUARY http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/09/22/world-health-organization-ebola/16076067/ LONDON (AP) — New estimates from the World Health Organization warn the number of Ebola cases could hit 21,000 in six weeks unless efforts to curb the outbreak are ramped up. Since the first cases were reported six months ago, the tally of cases in West Africa has reached an estimated 5,800 illnesses. WHO officials say cases are continuing to increase exponentially and Ebola could sicken people for years to come without better control measures. In recent weeks, health officials worldwide have stepped up efforts to provide aid but the virus is still spreading. There aren't enough hospital beds, health workers or even soap and water in the hardest-hit West African countries: Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. EBOLA: Doctor says border controls critical Last week, the U.S. announced it would build more than a dozen medical centers in Liberia and send 3,000 troops to help. Britain and France have also pledged to build treatment centers in Sierra Leone and Guinea and the World Bank and UNICEF have sent more than $1 million worth of supplies to the region. "We're beginning to see some signs in the response that gives us hope this increase in cases won't happen," said Christopher Dye, WHO's director of strategy and study co-author, who acknowledged the predictions come with a lot of uncertainties. "This is a bit like weather forecasting. We can do it a few days in advance, but looking a few weeks or months ahead is very difficult." They also calculated the death rate to be about 70 percent among hospitalized patients but noted many Ebola cases were only identified after they died. So far, about 2,800 deaths have been attributed to Ebola. Dye said there was no proof Ebola was more infectious or deadly than in previous outbreaks. GALLERY: Battling the Ebola outbreak The new analysis was published online Tuesday by the New England Journal of Medicine — six months after the first infections were reported on March 23. WHO is just one of the groups that have attempted to calculate the epidemic's future toll. On Tuesday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to release its own predictions for only Liberia and Sierra Leone — the two West African countries that recently have shown the steadiest and most alarming spread of cases. The CDC calculations are based, in part, on assumptions that cases have been dramatically underreported. Other projections haven't made the same kind of attempt to quantify illnesses that may have been missed in official counts. CDC scientists conclude there may be as many as 21,000 reported and unreported cases in just those two countries as soon as the end of this month, according to a draft version of the report obtained by The Associated Press. They also predict that the two countries could have a staggering 550,000 to 1.4 million cases by late January. The agency's numbers seem "somewhat pessimistic" and do not account for infection control efforts already underway, said Dr. Richard Wenzel, a Virginia Commonwealth University scientist who formerly led the International Society for Infectious Diseases. Other outside experts questioned WHO's projections and said Ebola's spread would ultimately be slowed not only by containment measures but by changes in people's behavior. "It's a big assumption that nothing will change in the current outbreak response," said Dr. Armand Sprecher, an infectious diseases specialist at Doctors Without Borders. "Ebola outbreaks usually end when people stop touching the sick," he said. "The outbreak is not going to end tomorrow but there are things we can do to reduce the case count." Local health officials have launched campaigns to educate people about the symptoms of Ebola and not to touch the sick or the dead. Previous Ebola outbreaks have been in other areas of Africa; this is the first to hit West Africa. Sprecher was also unconvinced Ebola could continue causing cases for years and said diseases that persist in the environment usually undergo significant changes to become less deadly or transmissible. Dye and colleagues wrote they expected the numbers of cases and deaths from Ebola to continue rising from hundreds to thousands of cases per week in the coming months — and reach 21,000 by early November. He said it was worrisome that new cases were popping up in areas that hadn't previously reported Ebola, like in parts of Guinea. "The picture is too unclear at the moment," he said, noting the outbreak is continuing to double in size about every three weeks. Scientists said the response to Ebola in the next few months would be crucial. "The window for controlling this outbreak is closing," said Adam Kucharski, a research fellow in infectious disease epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

http://www.learning-englishonline.com/ Children Mining Diamonds in Liberia From VOA Learning English, this is the Education Report in Special English.More and more children in Liberia are leaving school to work in diamond mines. Fifteen-year-old Mike Coleman dropped out of school several months ago. He left to search for diamonds in western Liberia to help his parents. The country's Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy says that Liberian diamond mines employ at least 1,500 children. Nora Quae is the head of a Junior High School in western Liberia. She says that more than 200 students, half of the school, dropped out this year to work in the mines. Liberia's unemployment rate is nearly 85 percent. The World Bank estimates that 95 percent of the country's population lives on less than $2 a day. Work in the diamond mines is difficult and dangerous. But the possibility of earning $50 for each diamond is too good for many people to turn down. Employing anyone under the age of 18 in diamond mines is illegal. But many mine operators are willing to hire children who are small enough to fit into the narrow tunnels and tight spaces of mines. Thomas Wleh heads the Liberia Mining Entity in western Liberia. He says a worker's age does not matter to mine owners. And he says the operators do not force children to work for them. But Mr. Wleh says the Ministry of Education should put measures in place to keep students in school. The United Nations Security Council helped ban the mining and export of so-called blood diamonds in Liberia in 2001 during the country's civil war. But the United Nations ended the ban in 2007. The diamond mines are again operating, increasing the demand for young workers. For VOA Learning English, I'm Carolyn Presutti. OUT NOW - http://www.vbs.tv/watch/the-vice-guide-to-travel/the-vice-guide-to-liberia-1-of-8 In the summer of 2009, Smith, along with VICE UK Editor Andy Capper, traveled to Liberias capital, Monrovia, to assess whether the war-ravaged country had moved past a decade of brutal violence. What they discovered is that despite the United Nations eventual intervention, most of Liberias young people still live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. The former child soldiers who were forced into war have been left to fend for themselves, the murderous warlords who once led them in cannibalistic rampages have taken up as so-called community leaders, and new militias lie in wait for the opportunity to reclaim their country from a government they rightly mistrust. Americas one and only foray into African colonialism is keeping a very uneasy peace indeed.

Liberia, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country in West Africa bordered by Sierra Leone to its west, Guinea to its north and Cote d'Ivoire to its east. It covers an area of 111,369 km sq and is home to about 3.7 million people. Liberia is a country with historical ties to the United States. It was founded by freed black slaves during the pre-Civil War antebellum era of the nineteenth century. The capital, Monrovia, was named after James Monroe. Liberia's flag closely resembles the American flag, reflecting the historical ties of Liberia to the United States. History Anthropological research shows the region of Liberia was inhabited at least as far back as the 12th century, perhaps earlier. Between 1461 and the late 17th century, Portuguese, Dutch and British traders had contacts and trading posts in Liberia. The Portuguese had named the area Costa da Pimenta, later translated as Grain Coast, because of the abundance of grains of melegueta pepper. In 1822, the American Colonization Society which was the primary vehicle for returning black Americans to greater freedom in Africa, established Liberia as a place to send people who were formerly enslaved. This movement of black people by the A.C.S. had broad support nationwide among white people in America. While the institution of slavery in America grew, reaching almost four million slaves by the mid 1800s, a growing population in the U.S. chose to emigrate to Liberia as well. African-Americans gradually migrated to the colony and became known as Americo-Liberians, from whom many present day Liberians trace their ancestry. On July 26, 1847, Americo-Liberian settlers declared independence of the Republic of Liberia. Liberia retained its independence during the Scramble for Africa, but lost its claim to extensive territories that were annexed by Britain and France. Economic development was hindered by the decline of markets for Liberian goods in the late 19th century and by indebtedness on a series of loans, payments on which drained the economy. On April 12, 1980, a successful military coup was staged by a group of noncommissioned army officers led by Master Sergeant Samuel Kanyon Doe. The soldiers were a mixture of the various ethnic groups that claimed marginalization at the hands of the minority Americo-Liberian settlers. In late 1989, the First Liberian Civil War began and the country was in state of war to varying degrees until 2003. Liberia is recovering from a devastating civil war that ended with a ceasefire in August 2003. While the country is now on the mend, it has not yet redeveloped the necessary infrastructure to sustain a large increase in tourism, with little for the average visitor outside Monrovia. Towns like Buchanan, Ganta etc are little more than a collection of shanty houses with no decent hotels or food. Monrovia in general is calmer than the more far-flung areas although the situation countrywide is improving with the presence of UN Peacekeepers. Fear should not stop you enjoying your visit but act with caution. Travel outside Monrovia is very difficult and not advisable on your own. Climate The equatorial climate is hot year-round with heavy rainfall from May to October with a short interlude in mid-July to August. During the winter months of November to March dry dust-laden harmattan winds blow inland causing many problems for residents. Angela Merkel, Pratibha Patil, Nancy Pelosi and of course Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf are just a few of the women that have been voted into power in recent years. But does gender really make a difference in politics? As more women enter politics, will the political system change? Will the world become better? Are women more democratic than men? After fourteen years of civil war, Liberia is a nation ready for change. On January 16, 2006, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf was inaugurated President, following a hotly contested election which she won with the overwhelming support of women across Liberia. She is the first elected female head of state in Africa. Since taking office she has appointed other extraordinary women to leadership positions in all areas of government, including the Police Chief and the ministers of Justice, Commerce and Finance. Can the first female Liberian president, backed by other powerful women, bring sustainable democracy and peace to such a devastated country? Iron Ladies of Liberia gives behind-the-scenes access to President Sirleaf's first year in government, providing a unique insight into the workings of a newly elected African cabinet. The Center for Global Development is pleased to host a discussion on Liberia after Ebola, featuring Senator Jeff Flake and Liberian Minster of Public Works, Gyude Moore. The 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa continues to have an extraordinary human cost. But as the outbreak in Liberia appears to diminish, the international community should be preparing for a post-Ebola economic recovery, including building a strengthened health system. Following the keynote addresses, a panel will discuss the role of the international community in helping Liberia and West Africa rebuild in the aftermath of Ebola.

As Liberia looks forward to an Ebola-free future, one of the serious challenges that remains is how to dispose of Ebola waste safely. In this video we see how the ICRC is helping to ensure liquid Ebola waste is safely treated. We also see how community members monitor the process and reassure people living around the site about the safety procedures that are in place. AV287

Club A is a non-profit, after-school program for underprivaleged kids in Liberia, Costa Rica, whose mission is to help children in improvished neighborhoods by giving them a form of education to brighten their futures. Their parents cannot financially support their children through school. Most of the parnets do not have any form of education, but yearn for a better future for their kids. Club A is a free, two-day per week, afterschool program. At Club A, the kids are fed a snack, helped with their school work and taught english in a stable enviroment. Our mission is to collect thirty-five backpacks filled with school supplies and to send them to the Club A program. The money we raise here would cover the expensive shipping costs (Costa Rica is a long ways away). Big News Network 2015-04-18Liberia i/laɪˈbɪəriə/, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Sierra Leone on the west, Guinea on the north and Ivory Coast on the east. Liberia's coastline is composed of mostly mangrove forests while the more sparsely populated inland consists of forests that open to a plateau of drier grasslands. The country possesses 40% of the remaining Upper Guinean rainforest. Liberia has a hot equatorial climate, with significant rainfall during the May to October rainy season and harsh harmattan winds the remainder of the year. Liberia covers an area of 111,369 km2 (43,000 sq mi) and is home to about 3.7 million people. English is the official language, while over 30 indigenous languages are spoken within the country.
Along with Ethiopia, Liberia is one of the two modern countries in Sub-Saharan Africa without roots in the European colonization of Africa. Beginning in 1820, the region was colonized by freed American slaves with the help of the American Colonization Society, a private organization that believed ex-slaves would have greater freedom and equality in Africa. Slaves freed from slave ships were also sent there instead of being repatriated to their countries of origin. In 1847, these colonists founded the Republic of Liberia, establishing a government modeled on that of the United States and naming the capital city Monrovia after James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States and a prominent supporter of the colonization. The colonists, known as Americo-Liberians, led the political and economic sectors of the country.
Good night, my angel
Time to close your eyes
And save these questions for another day
I think I know what you've been asking me
I think you know what I've been trying to say
I promise I would never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away
Good night, my angel
Now it's time to sleep
And still so many things I want to say
Remember all the songs you sang for me
When we went sailing on an emerald bay
And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep
The water's dark and deep
Inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me
[Harmonizing]
Good night, my angel
Now it's time to dream
And dream how wonderful your life will be
Someday your child may cry
And if you sing this lullabye
Then in your heart
There will always be a part of me
Someday we'll all be gone
But lullabyes go on and on
They never die
Glory to thee my God this night
For all the blessings of the light
Keep me, O keep me, King of Kings
Beneath thine own almighty wings
Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear son
The ill that I this day have done
That with the world, myself and thee
I e'er I sleep at peace may be
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above angelic host
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost
New Day
I will love you more than me and more than yesterday
If you can but prove to me you are the new day
Send the sun in time for dawn, let the birds all hail the
morning
Love of life will let me say you are the new day
When I lay me down at night, knowing we must pay
Thoughts occur that this night might stay yesterday
Thoughts that we as humans swore, could slow worlds and
end it all
lie around me where they fall, before the new day
One more day when time is running out for everyone
Like a breath I knew would come, I reach for the new day
Hope is my philosophy, just needs days in which to be
Love of life means hope for me, born on a new day
Mysterium
Let all mortal flesh keep silence
And with fear and trembling stand
As the Light of light descendeth
From the realms of endless day,
That the powers of hell may vanish
As the darkness clears away
My life flows on in endless song
Above earth's lamentation.
I hear the real though far-off hymn
That hails a new creation.
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that rock I'm clinging
It sounds an echo in my soul,
How can I keep from singing?
What though the tempest round me roars,
I know the truth, it liveth,
What though the darkness round me close,
Songs in the night it giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that rock I'm clinging
Since love is lord of heaven and earth
How can I keep from singing?
I lift my eyes, the cloud grows thin;
I see the blue above it;
And day by day this pathway smoothes,
Since first I learned to love it.
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
A fountain ever springing;
All things are mine since I am his,
How can I keep from singing?
Singing?
I was sitting in a crummy movie
with my hands on my chin
all that violence that occurs
seems like we never win
Love and mercy are
what you need tonight
Oh, love and mercy to
you and your friends tonight
I was lying in my room
and the news came on TV
There's a lot of people out there hurting
and it really scares me
Love and mercy are
what you need tonight
Oh, love and mercy to
you and your friends tonight
I was standing in the bar
and watching all the people there
All the loneliness in this world
It's just not fair
Oohh, oohh.
Oh, love and mercy are
what you need tonight
Oh, love and mercy to
you and your friends tonight
Oh, Love and mercy are
what you need tonight
Oh, love and mercy to
you and your friends tonight
dooh, dooh.
If I had wings of a dove,
Far, far away would I fly and hide away
To be at rest
If I could wing above,
So far on high and be free to steal away
And be at rest
Dona nobis Domine perpetua in saecula
Dona nobis pacem
For everything above
Acroos the sky, can be free to soar on high,
And be at rest
Exaudi orationem dona Domine
Let me sail, let me sail, let the Orinoco flow
Let me reach, let me beach on the shores of Tripoli
Let me sail, let me sail, let me crash upon your shore
Let me reach, let me beach far beyond the yellow sea
Sail away
From Bissau to Palau in the shade of Avalon
From Fiji to Tiree and the Isles of Ebony
From Peru to Cebu, feel the power of Babylon
From Bali to Cali far beneath the Coral Sea
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, up - Adieu
From the North to the South, Ebudae unto Khartoum
From the deep Sea of Clouds to the Island of the Moon
Carry me on the waves to the lands I've never been
We are the lost who lived and loved
We felt the dawn saw sunset glow
for now we lie in row on row
in Flanders fields
O lux beata lumina
The larks fly high where guns destroyed
Now poppies grow and crosses show
where now we lie in Flanders fields
in row on row
Time like an ever rolling stream
bears all its sons away
They fly forgotten as a dream
dies at the break of day
We shall not sleep who lived and loved
who felt the dawn saw sunset glow
If you break faith with us who lie
in Flanders fields
From failing hands we throw the torch
Our light be yours to hold it high
For now we lie in Flanders fields
A whisper in heaven re-echoes around
the songs of the angels resound
Their music of light chases darkness away
The voices uplifted to say -
You’ll never be alone
Though their music is lost in the noise of the storm
and the whispers are drowned in the flood
Their message of hope is not fading away
The echoes will never decay -

I am the day, soon to be born
I am the light before the morning
I am the night, that will be dawn
I am the end and the beginning
[Chorus]
I am the alpha and omega
The night and day, the first and last
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
In aeterna
I am the life, soon to begin
I am the new hope in the morning
I am the darkness, soon to be light
I am the rising and the falling
[Chorus]
I am the alpha and omega
The night and day, the first and last
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
Illuminosa, immortalis
Sancta gloriosa
In aeterna
I am the day, soon to be born
I am the light before the morning

Going home going home
I am going home
Quiet light, some still day
I am going home
It's not far, just close by,
through an open door
Work all done, care laid by
never fear no more
Mother's there expecting me
Father's waiting too
Lots of faces gathered there
All the friends I knew
I'm just going home
No more fear No more pain
No more stumbling by the way
No more longing for the day
Going to run no more
Morning star lights the way
Restless dreams all gone
Shadows gone, break of day
real life has begun
There's no break, there's no end
Just living on
Wide awake, with a smile
Going on and on
Going home Going home
I am going home
shadows gone break of day
real life has begun
Silence and sleep
Like fields
Of amaranth lie
Very old are the woods
And the buds that break
Out of the brier’s boughs
When March winds wake
So old with their beauty are
Oh no man knows
Through what wild centuries
Roves back the rose
Very old are the brooks
And the rills that rise
Where snow sleeps cold
Beneath the azure skies
Sing such a history of come and gone
Sing such a history of come and gone
Of come and gone
Silence and sleep
Like fields
Of amaranth lie
Very old are the woods
And the buds that break
Out of the brier’s boughs
When March winds wake
Very old are we men
Our dreams are tales
Told in dim Eden
By Eve’s nightingales
Very old are the brooks
And the rills that rise
Where snow sleeps cold
Beneath the azure skies
Sing such a history of come and gone
Sing such a history of come and gone
Come and gone, come and gone
Sing such a history of come and gone
Sing such a history of come and gone
Sing such a history of come and gone
Of come and gone
We wake and whisper a while
But the day gone by
Silence and sleep
Like fields
Of amaranth lie
You were there
In everything I knew
From the moment I began
Always there
In every way I go
Saved me falling
Held my hand
You are shelter from the storm
The shadows fade away
All cares pass away
Hosanna, day by day
Your love lightens up the sky
As it shines across the night
Ave, regina caelorum decora
Virgo gloriosa, ave!
And when the end of day is come
Stay with me through the dark
And bring me home
You are there
Whichever way I go
Keep me safely night and day
Always there
Whenever I'm alone
Hear me calling
Show the way
You are shelter from the storm
The shadows fade away
All cares pass away
Hosanna, day by day
Your love lightens up the sky
As it shines across the night
Ave, regina caelorum decora
Virgo gloriosa, ave!
And when the end of day is come
Stay with me through the dark
And bring me home
Stay with me through the dark
Twilight
Twilight is stealing over hill and sea
Vesper bells pealing call us to thee
Lowly confessing trespass and shame
Bravely expressing faith in thy name
Low at thy mercy seat
Father thy children meet
Craving thy guidance sweet
Call to thee
Call us to thee o’er hill and sea
Call us to thee
Praising with one accord
Hearing thy holy word
Here let our service Lord
Domine deus miserere mei
Carry me away
From the dark I fear
When the storm is near
From the endless night
From my blinded sight
To a sky of light
Free me to fly away
Salva me
Carry me away
From the things that harm
On the sea of calm
From the endless night
From my blinded sight
When at night I go to sleep,
Fourteen angels watch do keep
Two my head are guarding,
Two my feet are guiding
Two are on my right hand,
Two are on my left hand
Two who warmly hold me,
Two with love enfold me
Two who show me when I rise
Be still my soul the Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy God to order and provide
In every change He faithful will remain
Be still my soul thy best, thy heavenly friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end
Be still my soul when dearest friends depart
And all is darkened in the vale of tears
Then shalt thou better know His love His heart
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears
Be still my soul the waves and winds shall know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below
Be still my soul the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord
When disappointment grief and fear are gone
Sorrow forgot love's purest joys restored
Be still my soul when change and tears are past
Attendite
Attende Domine
Et misere
Quia peccavimus tibi
Deep peace of the wave to you
Of the flowing water
Deep peace of the air to you
Ever breathing still bringing peace
Deep peace of the stars to you
Of the shining heavens
Deep peace of the earth to you
Ever sleeping still bringing peace
Exaudi Christe, Domine, miserere mei.
Ad te Rex summe, omnium redemptor, oculos nostros
sublevamus flentes:
exaudi, Christe, supplicantum preces.
Do you know me, who I am?
I am always with you
I am near you every day,
Always share what you do
Follow the path to anywhere,
A stranger in the world without you
Forever I will be there,
The shadow you always knew
Beati quorum via, integra est
If you think I've gone away,
And am never with you
A am not so far away,
When a knight won his spurs in the stories of old
He was gentle and brave he was gallant and bold
With a shield on his arm and a lance in his hand
For God and for valor he rode through the land
No charger have I, and no sword by my side
Yet still to adventure and battle I ride
Though back into storyland giants have fled
And the knights are no more and the dragons are dead
Let faith be my shield and let joy be my steed
It's the dragons of anger the ogres of greed
And let me set free with the sword of my youth
I wish the dawn may know nothing of the name that I told
the night
I wish like mist in the morning it drifts away silently
to hide away
So carry away to never see light of day
keep hidden away for eternity - a secret song
I dream the day could proclaim the love of the name that
I told the night
I dream that glorious daylight uncovers the mystery I
hide away
I pray to hide from the sunset the secret I told the day
I pray to carry away the love and drift away silently and

You are the music that plays
You are the voice
You are the light
And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England's
mountains green
and was the holy Lamb of God on England's pleasant
pastures seen
and did the countenance divine shine forth upon our
clouded hills
and was Jerusalem builded here among those dark satanic
mills
Bring me my bow of burning gold, bring me my arrows of
desire
Bring me my spear, O clouds unfold, bring me my chariots
of fire
I will not cease from mental fight, nor shall my sword
sleep in my hand
'til we have built Jerusalem in England's green and
I vow to thee my country
All earthly things above
Entire and whole and perfect
The service of my love
The love that asks no question
The love that stands the test
That lays upon the altar
The dearest and the best
The love that never falters
The love that pays the price
The love that makes undaunted
The final sacrifice
And there's another country
I've heard of long ago
Most dear to them that love her
Most great to them that know
We may not count her armies
We may not see her King
Her fortress is a faithful heart
Her pride is suffering
And soul by soul and silently
Her shining bounds increase
And her ways are ways of gentleness
And all her paths are peace
Sing for ever
I will sing for you at the start of each day,
I’ll sing for ever, sing for you
In all things I do in the dawn of' my life,
I'll sing for ever, sing for you
Shutting out night my life renewed,
Happy for love that is to come
Opening eyes I’ll follow you
Glad to see, glad to be yours
Echoing what you say,
Shining out what you are,
Out of dark, into your light
I will sing for you in the light of each day
I’ll sing for ever, sing for you
In all things I do at the noon of my life,
I'll sing for ever, sing for you
I will sing for you at the end of each day,
I’ll sing for ever, sing for you
In all things I do in the eve of my life,
I’ll sing for ever, sing for you
I will sing for you each and every day,
I'll sing for ever, sing for you
In all things I do to the end of my life
Semele
Where'er you walk
Cool gales shall fan the glade
Trees where you sit
shall crowd into a shade
Trees where you sit
shall crowd into a shade
Where'er you tread
the blushing flowers shall rise
and all things flourish
and all things flourish
Silent night, Holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night Holy night,
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluis;
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born.
Silent night, Holy night,
Son of God Love's pure ligth
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
with the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Vespera
Te lucis ante terminum
Rerum creator poscimus
Ut solita clementia
Sis praesul ad custodium
Before the ending of the day
Creator of the world we pray
That with thy wonted favour thou
Would be our guard and keeper now
Keep me as the apple of an eye
Hide me under the shadow of thy wings
Keep me as the apple of an eye
Hide me, hide me, hide me
Hide me, hide me, hide me
The heaven soars with voices above
The skies resound the power of your love
The stars shine out your glorious light
Shine through our gloom and take us on high
Keep me as the apple of an eye
Hide me under the shadow of thy wings
Keep me as the apple of an eye
Hide me, hide me, hide me

From the dark of this day

Something Sings
Let me go where I will,
I hear a sky born music still
It sounds from all things old,
It sounds from all things young
From all that’s fair, from all that’s dark,
Peals out an everlasting song
Not only in the rose,
It is not only in the bird
Not only rainbow glows,
Nor in it’s music heard
But in the dark and cold of things,
There always, always something sings
‘ Tis not in stars alone,
Nor in the bloom of spring born flowers
Nor in the robin’s song,
Nor in the glint of showers
But in the dark and cold of things,
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
Veni Sancte
Veni Sancte Spiritu
O Lux creator optime
You are everywhere, anywhere I go
You are everything, anything I know
Sancte Spiritu
Veni Sancte Spiritu
I am everywhere, anywhere you go
emite coelitus lucis cordium,
Sancte Spiritu
Veni Sante Spiritu
For the wonder of who I am
In every moment of life
You are with me
Sancte, Sancte, veni Spiritu
Sancte veni, Sancte
Sancte, Sancte, veni Spiritu
Sancte veni, Sancte
If I take to the wings of the morning
or climb to the heavens
or fall to the darkness
or fly to the sunrise
you are there
O Lux Creator optime
You are everywhere, anywhere I go.
I am everything, anything you know.
Sancte Spiritu. Veni Sancte Spiritu
O Lux Creator optime.
[Dator munerum]
Emite coelitus lucis cordium
Sancte Spiritu Veni Sancte Spiritu
O Lux Creator Optime
For the wonder of who I am
In every moment of life and death
A song of enchantment
A song of enchantment I sang me there
In a green green wood by waters fair
Just as the words came up to me
I sang it under a wild wood tree
Widdershins turned I singing it low
Watching the wild birds come and go
No cloud in the deep dark blue to be seen
Under the thick thatch branches green
Twilight came, silence came
The planet of evening’s silver flame
By darkning paths I wandered through
Thickets trembling with drops of dew
But the music is lost and the words are gone
Of the song I sang as I sat along
Ages and ages have fallen on me
As secret as a dream you call
As silent as the night for all you cry
Lacrymosa
Lacrymosa dies illa
Dolorosa Domine
Voca
Voca Me
You whisper in my silent sleep
You answer to my call when lost I cry
Lacrymosa
Lacrymosa dies illa
Dolorosa Domine
Voca
A new heaven
And I saw a new heaven
For the first earth, and the first earth
Are passed away
Illumina, perpetua
And there shall be no more death
No crying
For all who need comfort for all those who mourn
all those whom we cherished will be reborn
All those whom we love but see no more
they are not perished, but gone before
and lie in the tender arms of he who died for us all to
set us free
from hatred and anger and cruel tyranny
may they rest in peace - and rise in glory
All suffering and sorrow will be no more
they'll vanish like shadows at heaven’s door
All anguish and grieving will one day be healed
when all of God's purpose will be revealed.
Though now for a season lost from sight
the innocent slain in the blindness of 'right'
are now in the warmth of God's glorious light
where they rest in peace - and rise in glory
Lord give me wisdom to comprehend why I survive and not
my friend
and teach me compassion so I may live, all my enemies
to forgive
For all who need comfort for all those who mourn
all those whom we cherished will be reborn
All those whom we love but see no more
they are not perished but gone before
And Lord keep them safe in your embrace
and fill their souls with your good grace
for now they see you face to face
May the road rise up to meet you
may the wind be always at your back
May the rains fall soft upon you
and the sun shine warm upon your face
And true be the hearts that love you
peace ever with you and until we meet again -
May the path light up before you
and the clouds forsake the skies above
May the warmth of sun surround you
and the stars shine bright to guide you home
And true be the hearts that love you
peace ever with you and until we meet again -
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
Wherever I go
Far away and anywhere
Time after time you always shine
through dark of night calling after me
And wherever I climb
Far away and anywhere
You raise me high beyond the sky
through stormy night lifting me above
Venite Spiritu et emitte caelitus
Venite Spiritu et emitte caelitus
Venite Spiritu Venite Spiri tus
Whenever I cry
Far away and anywhere
You hear me call when shadows fall
Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints in snow,
I am the sunlight and ripened grain.
I am the gentle Autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning hush,
I am the swift upflinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle, gentle autumn rain
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
When you awake in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft, soft starlight, starlight at night
Do not stand at my grave and weep
Dies Irae
Rex tremendae majestatis salva me
Confutatis maledictis voca me
Kyrie eleison
Can you tell me if there'll be
One day when we'll wake and see
How to right the things gone by
Kyrie eleison
Dies irae, dies illa
solvet saeclum in favilla
cum resurget creatura
judex est venturus
Kyrie eleison
Through the dark and fearful night
Help us bring a healing light
Reaching out to those who cry
Kyrie eleison
Dies irae, dies illa
solvet saeclum in favilla
cum resurget creatura
judex est venturus
Rex tremendae majestatis salva me
Confutatis maledictis voca me
Finally we can see the way how to make a brighter day
You can turn the darkness round
Kyrie eleison
Dies irae, dies illa
solvet saeclum in favilla
cum resurget creatura
Hark how the bells
Sweet silver bells
All seem to say
Throw cares away
Christmas is here
Bringing good cheer
To young and old
Meek and the bold
Ding dong ding
That is their song
With joyful ring
All caroling
One seems to hear
Words of good cheer
From everywhere
Filling the air
Oh how they pound
Raising the sound
O'er hill and dale
Telling their tale
Gaily they ring
While people sing
Songs of good cheer
Christmas is here
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas
On on they send
On without end
Their joyful tone to every home
Beata Lux
Let dust in dust and silence lay
For there the heaven is but who am I
How shall I sing that majesty
Which angels so admire in ecstasy
O Lux beata trinita
Fulget crucis mysterium
Lucis creator optime
Aeterna Lux caelestia
I shall on earth be dark and cold
Black skies surrounding me with fears untold
But there's a sea without a shore
A sun without a sphere eternally
I am the hours and moments of your yesterday
I am your time gone by
Oer days and ages fleeting, long since passed away
As endless years roll by.
Ill rise in the spark of life the dawn of all time.
Ill call to the world still yet to be.
The music is everywhere,
In life, in the sea and air
To join in the perfect song of all eternity.
I am the hours, the days and moments yet to come
Until the end of time
All the centuries and seasons that are still to run
As endless years roll by.
Ill rise in the spark of life the dawn of all time
Ill call to the world still yet to be
The music is everywhere
In life, in the sea and air
To join in the perfect song of all eternity
The noon of creation rings
And all in the heavens sing
The glorious song through all eternity.
Little Lamb who made thee
dost thou know who made thee?
Gave thee life and bid thee feed
by the stream and o'er the mead
Gave thee clothing of delight
softest clothing wooly bright
Gave thee such a tender voice
making all the vales rejoice, rejoice
Little Lamb who made thee
dost thou know who made thee?
Little Lamb I'll tell thee
Little Lamb I'll tell thee
He is called by thy name
for he calls himself a Lamb
He is meek and he is mild
he became a little child
I a child and thou a lamb
we are called by his name
Little Lamb God bless thee
Still, still, still,
Let all the earth be still.
For Mary in her arms enfolding
Hope of all the world is holding.
Still, still, still,
Let all the earth be still.
Sing, sing, sing,
Sweet angel voices sing.
While Jesus lies in manger dreaming
Seraph choirs from heaven are streaming.
Sing, sing, sing,
Sweet angel voices sing.
Light, light, light
Let all the earth be light.
The holy star its news ablazing
Sign of hope for nations raising.
Light, light, light,
Let all the earth be light.
Sleep, holy Jesus, sleep.
You are everything I know
Whichever way I go
Forever stay with me (2x)
Chorus:
Venite Angeli
Cantate Domino
Laudate
You see me through whenever I'm afraid
However far away
Forever comfort me..
Chorus
You're on my side whichever way I choose
In everythin' I do
Forever stay with me
