Mr Cholmondeley-Warner An early 20th century television presenter (played by Jon Glover) who, with his manservant Greyson (Enfield), would attempt to uphold the British Empire's values by advising, amongst other things, that women refrain from participating in complex conversations (as this would lead to insanity) or that babies be given gin (to ensure a good night's sleep). The characters also appeared in a series of TV adverts for Mercury Communications.

Man City v Man Utd FA Cup Manchester United survived a stirring fightback from Manchester City to win a thrilling FA Cup third-round derby at the Etihad Stadium. The drama started before kick-off when United announced Paul Scholes was coming out of retirement to play until the end of the season and was named on the bench. And it did not let up for a pulsating 90 minutes which threatened a United rout as they established a three-goal lead by half-time, but ended with Sir Alex Ferguson's side hanging on as City tried to complete the most unlikely comeback. City were also fuelled by a burning sense of injustice after losing influential defender and captain Vincent Kompany to a contentious early red card from referee Chris Foy after a two-footed challenge on Nani. United were already ahead courtesy of Wayne Rooney's header - and with City suffering a numerical disadvantage the visitors punished their neighbours in a style that, at one point, threatened complete revenge for their 6-1 thrashing at Old Trafford in October. Danny Welbeck added a second before Rooney was on target again from a rebound after his penalty was saved by City's stand-in goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, who was in for the rested Joe Hart. Roberto Mancini's side refused to capitulate in adversity, mounting a response that ultimately failed to rescue the game but did great credit to their resilience and determination. Aleksandar Kolarov's free-kick reduced the deficit and, when Sergio Aguero took advantage of Anders Lindegaard's handling error with 25 minutes left, City had real hopes of forcing a replay. United held on, but boss Ferguson was clearly unhappy with the carelessness demonstrated by his team that threatened to allow a comfortable situation and a place in the fourth round slip from their grasp. Scholes was introduced just before the hour but, understandably, looked very short of match sharpness. He spread some trademark passes and had a low shot saved, but the 37-year-old also tired rapidly and gave the ball away for City's second goal. When the rumoured return of Scholes became a reality he was afforded a rapturous reception from United's supporters as he came out to warm up. And, after the visitors survived early pressure from City, their fans were celebrating again when Rooney soared to meet Antonio Valencia's cross and direct a fine header beyond Pantilimon via the underside of the bar. Matters were made considerably worse for City two minutes later when Kompany was sent off for his challenge on Nani, which referee Foy deemed worthy of a red card despite the Belgian appearing to get the ball. This twin setback left City unsettled and United took advantage to add two further goals and assume total control by the interval. The game looked to have been pushed beyond City's reach when Rooney got his second when referee Foy correctly pointed to the spot following Kolarov's late tackle on Welbeck. Rooney's spot-kick was saved by Pantilimon but rebounded kindly to allow the former Everton man to head home and leave City's players and supporters stunned. And yet Mancini's men gathered themselves during the break to mount a stirring recovery. Mancini made a double change, taking off David Silva and Adam Johnson for Stefan Savic and Pablo Zabaleta. City were back in the game within three minutes of the restart as Kolarov sent a fine free-kick into the corner from 20 yards to offer hope of an unlikely comeback. This was the signal for Ferguson to reintroduce Scholes in place of Nani - but he was to quickly play an undistinguished part as City further cut the arrears. The veteran lost possession and when Lindegaard failed to hold Aguero's shot, the Argentine followed up to score with ease. The momentum was with City and as the game entered its closing stages another ex-England player hit the comeback trail once more as Owen Hargreaves replaced the disappointing Nasri. City had a penalty appeal turned down when Phil Jones handled, but United should also have been awarded a second spot-kick earlier when Kolarov fouled Valencia. There was still time for Kolarov to sting Lindegaard's palms with a free-kick in the dying seconds, but the parried effort was cleared by some frantic United defending. The final whistle brought a standing ovation from both sets of supporters - United's for the victory and a measure of revenge and City's for a show of strength from their side. Arsenal 3-0 Manchester City, FATV brings you the official highlights as Arsenal beat Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield 2014 with goals from Cazorla, Ramsey and Giroud. Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal could be about to enjoy a successful season after defeating Manchester City 3-0 to win The FA Community Shield. Strikes from Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud ensured Arsenal followed up May's FA Cup Final triumph with another Wembley win to clinch the first silverware of the campaign. Captain Arteta played alongside summer recruits Alexis Sanchez and Calum Chambers and agreed that his side are looking in good shape after an “outstanding” spell in the opening period. "In the first half we had 20 or 25 minutes where we were outstanding and we passed the ball around very quickly and looked a threat every time,” the Spaniard told BT Sport. "We've got pace up front now and it makes a big difference so we're really happy to get another trophy." Having lifted The Shield, Arteta is now eyeing further glory this season. “I think we're looking very good with some very good signings so that's only going to strengthen the team,” he said. "When you look at the bench and all the options we have to change the game, as I said, I hope it's going to be a good season. We ended last season well with The FA Cup so hopefully we'll continue well.” Arteta’s manager, Arsene Wenger, also added his praise of his side’s first-half performance - and acknowledged the fact that his squad is looking stronger than it has for some time. "I would say overall it was a united team performance and it was a first half of quality, togetherness and good movement," said the Gunners boss. "It's very difficult to compare [with past squads] but yes, in the last two years I've been speaking about big transfers. In the years before that we always lost big transfers so [the current policy] has now strengthened the squad." Captain Tsubasa (キャプテン翼 Kyaputen Tsubasa?), also known as Flash Kicker,[1] is a popular long-running Japanese manga, animation, and video game series, originally created by Yōichi Takahashi in 1981. The series mainly revolves around the sport of Association football. The story focuses on the adventures of a Japanese youth soccer team and its football captain Tsubasa Oozora[2] (大空 翼 Ōzora Tsubasa?), whose name literally translates to "Big Sky Wings". The series is characterized by dynamic football moves, often stylish and implausible. The plot focuses on Tsubasa's relationship with his friends, rivalry with his opponents, training, competition, and the action and outcome of each football match. The Captain Tsubasa manga series was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump comic book magazine between 1981 and 1988, spanning a total of 37-tankōbon volumes. It was continued onto a sequel, Captain Tsubasa: "World Youth" Saga, which was serialized between 1994 and 1997 in Shōnen Jump, spanning 18 volumes, and another sequel, titled Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002, which was serialized between 2001 and 2004 in Weekly Young Jump, which spanned 15 volumes. The latest sequel, Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun, was serialized in Grand Jump from December 2013. This first series tells only the synopsis of the first 25 volumes. Four animated movies followed soon, between 1985 and 1986, continuing the storyline. In 1989 a new animation series, Shin Captain Tsubasa, was produced by Shueisha and CBS Sony Group, Inc. and spanned 13 original video animations (OVAs). Shin Captain Tsubasa tells the comic book's synopsis from volume 25 to volume 36. The animation series was followed soon after into a second sequel, entitled Captain Tsubasa J, produced by Studio Comet, which aired between October 21, 1994 and December 22, 1995 in Japan on the Fuji Television network and spanned 47 episodes, as well an OVA series, Captain Tsubasa: Holland Youth, which was published in 1994. Captain Tsubasa (Japanese: キャプテン翼 Hepburn: Kyaputen Tsubasa?), also known as Flash Kicker,[1] is a popular long-running Japanese manga, animation, and video game series, originally created by Yōichi Takahashi in 1981. The series mainly revolves around the sport of Association football. The story focuses on the adventures of a Japanese youth soccer team and its football/soccer captain Tsubasa Oozora[2] (大空 翼 Ōzora Tsubasa?), whose name literally translates to "Big Sky Wings". The Captain Tsubasa manga has sold over 70 million copies in Japan making it one of Shonen Jump's most popular series ever. The original Captain Tsubasa comic series was adapted soon into an TV animation series, produced by Tsuchida Production, whose first season premiered in Japan on the TV Tokyo network between 10 October 1983 and 27 March 1986. The animated series was continued on further into a third sequel, Captain Tsubasa: Road to Dream, also known as Captain Tsubasa ~ Road to 2002, the latest animated adaptation of the series, animated by Group TAC, which aired in Japan between October 7, 2001 and October 6, 2002. All of the versions of the Captain Tsubasa animated series has been broadcast by the animation satellite television network Animax across its original network in Japan and later across its respective networks worldwide, including East Asia, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and other regions. It has been broadcast across several other regions over the world, including South America, Europe and the Middle East. The success of the series spurred several Nintendo Super Famicom video game adaptations. Enoki Films holds the United States license to Captain Tsubasa, under the title Flash Kicker. In a poll conducted by TV Asahi in 2005, the Captain Tsubasa anime series ranked 41 in a list of top 100 anime series.

noodls 2015-04-15The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team: it is often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game. The team captain is usually identified by the wearing of an armband.
The only official responsibility of a captain specified by the Laws of the Game is to participate in the coin toss prior to kick-off (for choice of ends) and prior to a penalty shootout. Contrary to what is sometimes claimed, captains have no special authority under the Laws to challenge a decision by the referee. However, referees will sometimes talk to the captain of a side about the side's general behaviour. Also, any trophy won by a team will be received by the captain at the award-giving ceremony.
In youth or recreational football, the captain often takes on duties, that would, at a higher level, be delegated to the manager. The captain generally provides a rallying point for the team: if morale is low, it is the captain who will be looked upon to boost their team's spirits.
Captain may refer to:
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. At the turn of the 21st century, the game was played by over 250 million players in over 200 countries, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field of grass or green artificial turf, with a goal in the middle of each of the short ends. The object of the game is to score by driving the ball into the opposing goal.
In general play, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with their hands or arms (unless the ball is carried out of play, where the field players are required to re-start by a throw-in of the game ball), while the field players typically use their feet to kick the ball into position, occasionally using their torso or head to intercept a ball in midair. The team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is tied at the end of the game, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time and/or a penalty shootout, depending on the format of the competition. The Laws of the Game were originally codified in England by the Football Association in 1863 and have evolved since then. Association football is governed internationally by FIFA - Fédération Internationale de Football Association (English: International Federation of Association Football), which organises the FIFA World Cup every four years.
