Arthur Ira "Art" Garfunkel (born November 5, 1941) is a Grammy-award winning American singer-songwriter, a poet, and a Golden Globe winning actor. He was also half of the folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, which split in 1970, at the height of their popularity.
Highlights of his solo music career include a top 10 hit, three top 20 hits, six top 40 hits, 14 Adult Contemporary top 30 singles, five Adult Contemporary number ones, two UK number ones and a People's Choice Award. Through his solo and collaborative work, Garfunkel has earned six Grammys, including the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1990, he and former musical partner Paul Simon were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Art Garfunkel was born in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City, the son of housewife Rose and traveling salesman Jacob "Jack" Garfunkel on November 5, 1941. Art has two siblings; the older one named Jules and the younger one named Jerome, who was an actor in his earlier years in Dayton, Ohio, before becoming a travelling menswear salesman. He is Jewish. His paternal grandparents emigrated from Iași in Romania. His cousin on his mother's side is founder of 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys, Lou Pearlman. Garfunkel attended the Forest Hills High School. According to the Across America DVD, Garfunkel's love for singing "came in the first grade. When we were lined up in size order, and after everyone else had left, I'd stay behind and enjoy the echo sound of the stairwell tiles and sing 'Unchained Melody' and 'You'll Never Walk Alone', learning to love this goose-bumps song from the tender age of five." Later, Garfunkel's father bought him a wire recorder and from then on, Garfunkel spent his afternoons singing, recording and playing it back, so he could listen for flaws and learn how to improve.
Miles to go but how could you know
How far we've gone, how far we've gone
All it would take to keep me awake
Is a different song or someone to sing along
The radio promised to take me through the night
Its intentions are good but I doubt that it can
As far as I know there's no rule of the road
The wheel has to feel the same two hands
Chorus
So why don't you drive for awhile
I've been crossing lines for miles
Why don't you drive for awhile
If I had only known
I'd be traveling alone
I would've stayed home
So why don't you drive for awhile
Sooner than later I could drift away
With the lights in my eyes and the hum at my feet
I think that we're lost but just of reach
Is a handfull of maps folded under your seat
Repeat chorus
It's my turn to ride
I took a walk around the yard
Dug the flowers til it got too hard
I smoked my first pack of cigarettes today
And I watched the children play
And then I went down, down to Lucy's old Cafe
Put a half a case away
I took a sleeping pill and tried to watch TV
But you know baby the leading lady looked too much like you for the likes of me
And I woke up crying in my sleep
I was talking to your pillow
And I reached out to touch your hand
And knocked the phone off the nightstand
And the operator said, "May I help you please?"
No thanks baby there's nothing you can really do for me
I just had a bad dream, that's all that's wrong with me
I just had a bad dream
Went out to loosen up the car
Some how I wound up at the rainbow bar
I had a scotch and soda on the run
But I didn't get too far
And then I ran down, down some friends I used to know
Dragged them out to see the show
I drew myself a bath and I tried to read your book
But you know baby this time it just didn't seem quite worth the time it took
And I woke up crying in my sleep
I was talking to your pillow
And I reached out to touch your hand
And knocked the phone off the nightstand
And the operator said, "May I help you please?"
No thanks baby there's nothing you can really do for me
I just had a bad dream, that's all that's wrong with me
I just had a bad dream, that's all that's wrong with me
Crying in my sleep
Crying in my sleep (I woke up crying)
Crying in my sleep (Crying trying to find her)
Crying in my sleep (I woke up crying)
Crying in my sleep (Crying trying to find her)
Clearing skies and drying eyes, now I see your smile.
Darkness goes and softness shows a changing style.
Just in time, words that rhyme, well bless your soul.
Now I'll fill your hands with kisses and a Tootsie Roll.
Reality, it's not for me and it makes me laugh.
But fantasy world and Disney Girls, I'm coming back.
Patti Page and summer days on old Cape Cod.
Happy times and making wine in my garage.
Country shade and lemonade, guess I'm slowing down.
It's a turn-back world with a local girl in a smaller town.
Open cars, and clearer stars, that's what I lack.
But fantasy world and Disney Girls, I'm coming back.
Mom, hi, Rick and Dave, hi, Pop, well good morning, Mom!
Love, get up! Guess what? I'm in love with a girl I found.
She's really swell cause she likes church bingo chances and old time dances.
All my life I spent the nights with dreams of you.
The warmth I missed for the things I wished are coming true.
I got my love to give and a place to live, guess I'm gonna stay.
It'd be a peaceful life with a forever wife and a kid some day.
It's early nights and pillow fights and your soft laugh.
(C. Monroe)
Down in the willow garden
Where me and my love did meet,
As we set there a courtin',
My love fell off to sleep.
I had a bottle of burgundy wine,
My love she did not know.
So I poisoned that dear little girl
On the banks below.
I drew a saber through her,
It was a bloody knife,
I threw her in the river,
Which was a dreadful sight.
My father oft had told me
That money would set me free
If I would murder that dear little girl
Whose name was Rose Connelly.
My father sits at his cabin door,
Wiping his tear dimmed eyes,
For his only son soon shall walk
To yonder scaffold high.
My race is run beneath the sun,
The scaffold now waits for me,
For I did murder that dear little girl
Living for you is easy living
It's easy to live when you're in love
And I'm so in love
There's nothing in life but you
I'll never regret the things I'm giving
They're easy to give when you're in love
I'm happy to do whatever I do for you
For you maybe I'm a fool, but it's fun
People say you rule me with one wave of your hand
Darling, it's grand, they just don't understand
Living for you is easy living
It's easy to live when you're in love
And I'm so in love
There's nothing in life but you
For you maybe I'm a fool, but it's fun
People say you rule me with one wave of your hand
Baby, it's grand, they just don't understand
Living for you is easy living
It's easy to live when you're in love
And I'm so in love
Baby, I see this world has made you sad,
Some people can be bad
The things they do, the things they say.
But, baby, I'll wipe away those bitter tears.
I'll chase away those restless fears
That turn your blue skies into gray.
Why Worry?
There should be laughter after pain,
There should be sunshine after rain,
These things have always been the same,
So Why Worry, now?
Why Worry, now?
Baby, when I get down I turn to you,
And you make sense of what I do
And, no, it isn't hard to say.
But, baby, just when this world
Seems mean and cold
Our love comes shining red and gold
And all the rest is by the way.
Why Worry?
There should be laughter after pain,
There should be sunshine after rain,
These things have always been the same,
So Why Worry, now?
Why Worry, now?
Why Worry?
There should be laughter after pain,
There should be sunshine after rain,
These things have always been the same,
So Why Worry, now?
There should be laughter after pain,
There should be sunshine after rain,
These things have always been the same,
So Why Worry, now?
Why Worry, now?
(Why Worry? Why Worry, now?)
You stepped out of a dream
You are too wonderful, to be what you seem
Should there be eyes like yours?
Should there be lips like yours?
Should there be smiles like yours?
Honest and truly
You stepped out of a cloud
I wanna take you away, away from the crowd
And have you all to myself
Alone and apart out of a dream
Safe in my heart
You stepped out of a dream
You are too wonderful, to be what you seem
Should there be eyes like yours?
Should there be lips like yours?
Should there be smiles like yours?
Honest and truly
You stepped out of a cloud
I wanna take you away, away from the crowd
And have you all to myself
Alone and apart out of a dream
Safe in my heart
You stepped out of a cloud
I wanna take you away, away from the crowd
And have you all to myself
Alone and apart out of a dream
Safe in my heart
Out of a dream
We are going, heaven knows where we are going,
We'll know we're there.
We will get there, heaven knows how we will get there,
We know we will.
It will be hard we know
And the road will be muddy and rough,
But we'll get there, heaven knows how we will get there,
We know we will.
We are going, heaven knows where we are going,

Who's gonna shoe your pretty little feet
Who's gonna glove your little hand
Who's gonna kiss your ruby red lips
Who-oo-oo-a
Papa's gonna shoe your pretty little feet
Mama's gonna glove your little hand
And I'm gonna kiss your ruby red lips

She doesn't want me, she doesn't care,
I've tried so hard to let her know, but she doesn't see me there.
What else can I do When Someone Doesn't Want You?
The picture's painted, I've been denied,
The artist couldn't fit me in, there wasn't room for me inside.
What else can I do When Someone Doesn't Want You?
When the day is over, the stars are in the sky,
I'll be going, I know that this is good-bye.
No tears will ever take her place,
They'll disappear, but will the memory linger on
After the pain is gone?
On a river, in my boat,
I'll save this sinking heart of mine,
Somehow I will stay afloat.
What else can I do When Someone Doesn't Want You?
When Someone Doesn't Want You, When Someone Doesn't Want You,
(When that someone
When she doesn't want you.)
When Someone Doesn't Want You,
(When that someone
When she doesn't want you.)
When Someone Doesn't Want You.
(John Jarvis, Eric Kaz)
I know you've run out of time for a fool like me.
It's all over now, you can't disguise,
All these constant good-byes.
I can't see, but I close my eyes and I walk away.
And try not to hear the words you say,
But I can't seem to turn my heart away.
There's a feeling out tonight, you're beside me everywhere.
Anyone would say, "It's over," but I just don't seem to care,
'Cause I could never turn my heart away,
I just can't seem to turn my heart away.
I can hear the music play, well I'm the only one who knows.
Maybe I'm a fool for listenin', but it takes me where it goes,
'Cause I can never turn my heart away,
I just can't seem to turn my heart away.
Something inside me needs to know
I can live to love again.
What is now has always been.
I need to let you know.
But I just can't turn away, and I can't stop loving you.
I can feel the end is near, but I can't admit it's true,
'Cause I could never turn my heart away,
I just can't seem to turn my heart away.
You go
I'll stay,
Celia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Celia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Come on home
Making love in the afternoon with Cecilia
Up in my bedroom (making love)
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone's taken my place
Celia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Come on home
Jubilation,
She loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I laughing,
Jubilation,
She loves me again,
Wooden Planes,
Propeller's spinning in the
West Texas wind,
We ran behind
You know we laughed, we thought
our little flight would never end
You were my brother and I,
I knew you were my friend
I wish we
were chasing after wooden
airplanes....once again
The road's been long
You know I've done some good, and
yes, I guess I've done some bad,
I've sung my song
You know sometimes I swear I think
I've gone completely mad.
If the story of my life ever makes
you sad
Remember when
we were a chasing after wooden
airplanes
I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail.
Yes I would.
If I could,
I surely would.
I'd rather be a hammer than a nail.
Yes I would.
If I could,
I surely would.
Away, I'd rather sail away
Like a swan that's here and gone.
Its saddest sound.
I'd rather be a forest than a street.
Yes I would.
If I could,
I surely would.
I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feet.
Yes I would.
If I could,
How delicate the tracery of her fine lines
Like the moonlight lacetops of the evening pines
Like a song half heard through a closed door
Like an old book when you cannot read the writing anymore
How innocent her visage as my child lover lies
Pressed against the rainswept windy windows of my eyes
Like an antique etching glass design
That somehow turned out wrong
I keep looking through old varnish
At my late lover's body
Caught on ancient canvas
And decaying...disappearing
Even as I sing this song
How secretly and silently my sorrow disappears
You can't see it with your eyes or hear it with your ears
It's like a Watermark that's never there and never really gone
I keep looking through old varnish
At my late lover's body
Caught on ancient canvas
And decaying...disappearing
Even as I sing this song
Even as I sing this song
EVERYTHING WAITS TO BE NOTICED
Everything waits to be noticed
A tree falls with no one there
The full potential of a love affair
Everything waits to be noticed
Twenty-eight geese in sudden flight
The last star on the edge of the night
A single button come undone
The middle child, the prodigal son
Everything waits to be noticed
A trickle underneath a dam
The missing line from the telegram
Everything waits to be noticed
The whispering pains that say you're living
The slow burn of not forgiving
The quiet room, the unlikely pair
The full potential of a love affair
Everything waits to be noticed
Longing for braver days
Cautiously turning a phrase
Going unnoticed
But everything waits to be noticed
The changing light in the upper air
The full potential of a love affair
(M. Sembello, D. Batteau, R. Bell, C. Bickhardt)
Finally Found A Reason to live,
No words can fill my head.
Finally, here at ease, I'm within
The light that fills my head.
And I Finally Found A Reason to live,
And I never knew the way to begin.
Waiting on a wish in a well,
That day may never come.
I've been known to follow my mind,
Those days are far behind.
And I Finally Found A Reason to live,
And I never knew the way to begin.
But now that I see your face,
My world is a better place.
For how can I ever leave you from my world,
Your world?
Finally found a feeling that's real,
In you, in me, I feel.
Time is just a turn of the wheel,
The way to love revealed.
And I Finally Found A Reason to live,
And I never knew the way to begin.
But now that I see your face,
My world is a better place.
For how can I ever leave you from my world,
All my love's laughter all my love's faces
She comes in the morning her cloak in her arms
She's following after the king of all places
And your tenderest warnin', could bruise all her charm
But don't lose your heart to that beautiful sinner
Who walks without shining a light
She stands in the shade and the sun is there in her
But you'll never know 'til it's night
All my love's softness, all my love's graces
She carries all things in her tiny white glove
She hides all her lostness in satins and laces
And everyone say she's searching for true love
But don't try to hold on to Satan's proud lady
Who stands with her flock all alone on the hill
Her stockings are hung and her eyes are so shady
Funny, how we're all so blind
Love is gentle, love is kind in the nighttime
Funny we can be so sad
It doesn't have to be so bad in the daytime
You want to know, where do the songs all go in your lifetime
One of these days, we'll go and find out where they stay
Once upon a lover's song
There was a boy, who sang along in the nighttime
Once upon a lover's dream
There was a tale of broken wings in the daytime
You want to know, where do the songs all go in your lifetime
One of these days, we'll go and find out where they stay
And I know
Love will come someday
And I know
Love will find a way
And I know
Love will come some way
And I know
Love will change your day
The songs that I bring, the songs that I sing, yea
Catch a piece of falling star
Try to keep it in a jar till the morning
Catch a summer firefly
Pray that it'll stay alive till the dawning
You want to know, where do the songs all go in your lifetime
One of these days, we'll go and find out where they stay
And I know
Love will come someday
And I know
Love will find a way
And I know
Love will come some way
And I know
Love will change your day
The songs that I bring, the songs that I sing
Love will come some day
And I know
Love will find a way
And I know
Love will come some way
And I know
Love will change your day
And I know
Love will come some day
And I know
Love will find a way
And I know
Love will come some way
And I know
Love will change your day
New York, to that tall skyline I come
Flyin' in from London to your door
New York, lookin' down on Central Park
Where they say you should not wander after dark
New York, like a scene from all those movies
But you're real enough to me, but there's a heart
A heart that lives in New York
A heart in New York, a rose on the street
I write my song to that city heartbeat
A heart in New York, love in her eye
An open door and a friend for the night
New York, you got money on your mind
And my own words won't make a dime's worth a difference
So here's to you New York
New York, now my plane is touching down
I bruise you, you bruise me
We both bruise too easily
Too easily to let it show
I love you and that's all I know
All my plans have fallen through
All my plans depend on you
Depend on you to help them grow
I love you and that's all I know
When the singer's gone
Let the song go on
But the ending always comes at last
Endings always come too fast
They come too fast but they pass to slow
I love you and that's all I know
When the singer's gone
Let the song go on
It's a fine line between the darkness and the dawn
They say in the darkest night, there's a light beyond
But the ending always comes at last
Endings always come too fast
They come too fast but they pass to slow
I love you and that's all I know
That's all I know
What'll I do when you are far away
and I am blue, what'll I do?
What'll I do when I am wondering who
is kissing you, what'll I do?
What'll I do with just a photograph
to tell my troubles true?
When I'm alone with only dreams of you
that won't come true, what'll I do?
What'll I do when I am wondering who
is kissing you, what'll I do?
What'll I do with just a photograph
to tell my troubles true?
When I'm alone with only dreams of you
that won't come true,
When A Man Loves A Woman,
Can't keep his mind on nothin' else,
He'd trade the world for the good thing he's found.
If she is bad, he can't see it,
She can do no wrong.
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down.
When A Man Loves A Woman,
Spend his very last dime, tryin' to hold on to what he needs.
He'd give up all his comforts,
Sleep out in the rain, if she said it ought to be.
When A Man Loves A Woman,
Deep down in his soul, she can bring him such misery.
If she is playing him for the fool,
He'd be the last one to know,
Lovin' eyes can never see.
When A Man Loves A Woman,
There's a somebody I'm longing to see
I hope that she turns out to be
Someone who'll watch over me
I'm a little lamb who's lost in the wood
I know I could always be good
To one who'll watch over me
Although I may not be the man some girls think of as handsome
To her heart I carry the key
Won't you tell her please to put on some speed, follow my lead
Oh, how I need someone who'll watch over me
Although I may not be the man some girls think of as handsome
To her heart I carry the key
Won't you tell her please to put on some speed, follow my lead
As we stroll along together
Holding hands, walking all alone
So in love are we two
That we don't know what to do
So in love
In a world of our own
As we stroll by the sea together
Under stars twinkling high above
So in love are we two
No one else but me and you
So in love
So much in love
So in love
So much in love
We stroll along together
I tell you I need you oh so much
I love, love you my darling
Can you tell it in my touch
When we walk down the aisle together
We will vow to be together 'til we die
So much love have we two
Just can't wait to say "I do"
So in love
Are you and I
So in love
My young love said to me:
"My father won't mind
And my mother won't cite you
for your lack of kind."
Then she drew closer to me
and this she did say:
"It will not be long, long, love
'till our wedding day."
She stepped away from me,
and She Moved Through the Fair
And fondly I watched her
move here and move there
And then she went homeward
with one star awake
As the swan in the evening, the evening
moves over the lake
Last night she came to me
she came softly in,
So softly she came
that her feet made no din
And she laid her hand on me,
and this she did say"
"It will not be long, long, love
The secret of life
Is enjoying the passage of time
Any fool can do it
There ain't nothin' to it
Nobody knows how we got to the top
of the hill
Since we're on our way down
We might as well enjoy the ride
The secret of love
Is in opening up your heart
It's okay to feel afraid
But don't let that stand in your way
'Cause anyone knows
That love is the only road
Since we' re only here for awhile
Might as well show some style
Give us a smile
Isn't it a lovely ride
Slidin' down, I'll be glidin' down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride
Now the thing about time is that time
Isn't really real
It's just your point of view
How does it feel for you
Einstein said he could never
Understand it all
Planets spinning through space
The smile upon your face
Welcome to the human race
Some kind of lovely ride
I'll be slidin' down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride
Isn't it a lovely ride
See me slidin' down, glidin' down
Try not to try too hard
It's just a lovely ride
The secret of life
I don't have plans and schemes
And I don't have hopes and dreams
I don't have anything
Since I don't have you
I don't have fond desires
And I don't have happy hours
I don't have anything
Since I don't have you
I don't have happiness
And I guess, I never will ever again
When you walked out on me, in walked on misery
And he's been here since then
I don't have love to share
And I don't have one who cares
I don't have anything
Since I don't have you
I don't have love to share
And I don't have one who cares
I don't have anything
Since I don't have you
You're still the best person I ever knew
There were a thousand little things
that I was always just about to
say to you
But now the time it grows shorter
for the speeches;
Let me leave you with a line-
Might help you pass the time...
sometime.
You might as well smile
Ain't no tears gonna drown the rain
Keeps on falling
You might as well smile
Ain't no pain gonna change what
still remains
You might as well maintain, babe,
Protect your sanity, your sanity, and
Shine it on, babe. Shine It On Me.
I remember times when you'd touch me
And you'd, you'd freeze my spine.
We were looking in the mirror at the time
I got confused and thought your eyes were mine
Might help you pass the time... sometime.
You might as well smile
Ain't no tears gonna drown the rain
Keeps on falling
You might as well smile
Ain't no pain gonna change what
still remains
You might as well regain, babe
Your lost serenity, serenity, and
She said, "What went wrong?"
I said, "I loved you all along."
She said, "How could you love me and hurt me like you do?"
Oh, no. I said, "Don't say good-bye. Don't go. Please don't let us die."
This Is The Moment we could close the door,
Or hold on and fight for the chance at something more.
This Is The Moment, and if we hang in,
It's when we'll really begin.
She said, "I'm so scared."
I said, "Just think of what we've had."
She said, "That was then, how can I feel that again?"
Oh, no. I said, "Don't walk away. Don't go, it's hard as hell to stay,
But I know, you'll understand someday, in times like this
We find out what we're about."
This Is The Moment we could close the door
Or hold on and fight for a chance at something more.
This Is The Moment we've got to hang in,
That's when love really begins.
Oh, help me, please help me, hold us together.
I promise that we can still have forever.
Oh, no. I said, "Don't say good-bye. Don't go. Please don't let us die."
This Is The Moment we could close the door,
Or hold on and fight for the chance at something more.
This Is The Moment we've got to hang in,
It's when we really begin.
This Is The Moment we could close the door,
Or hold on and fight for the chance at something more.
This Is The Moment we've got to hang in,
It's when we really begin.
This Is The Moment we could close the door,
Or hold on and fight for the chance at something more.
This Is The Moment we've got to hang in,
It's when we really begin.
Wake up my love beneath the midday sun
Alone once more alone
This traveling boy was only passing through
But he will always think of you
One night of love beside a strange young smile
As warm as I have known
A traveling boy and only passing through
But one who'll always think of you
Take my place out on the road again
I must do what I must do
Yes I know we were lovers
But a drifter discovers
A traveling boy and only passing through
But one who'll always think of you
Take my place out on the road again, I must do what I must do
Yes I know we were lovers but a drifter discovers
That a perfect love won't always last forever
I won't say that I'll be back again 'cause time alone will tell
So no goodbyes for one just passing through
Since we can no longer make it, girl,
I found a new place to live my life.
It's really no place at all,
Just a hole in the wall, you see.
It's cold and dusty but I let it be,
Livin' here without you,
On Second Avenue.
And since our stars took different paths,
I guess I won't be shavin' in your looking glass.
Guess my old friendly grin,
Must have started to dim, somehow,
And I certainly don't need it now,
Still, I keep smiling through,
On Second Avenue.
I can still see you standing
There on the third-floor landing.
The day you visited we hardly said a word.
Outside it was rainin',
You said you couldn't be stayin,
And you went back to your flowers and your birds.
Since we can no longer see the light
The way we did when we kissed that night,
Then all the things that we felt,
Must eventually melt and fade,
Like the frost on my window pane
Where I wrote, "I Am You,"
"If they ever drop the bomb," you said
"I'll find you in the flames"
But now we act like people
Who don't know each other's names
Well, sometimes it makes me sad, you know
Sometimes it makes me smile
'Cause you know how the game goes, honey
We all eat it once in awhile
Scissors cut, paper covers rock
Breaks the shining scissor
You hurt me, I hurt her
And she goes and he will miss her
Now I look around at people
Playing children's games
And I wonder if you're still thinking
You might find me somewhere in the flames
Scissors cut, paper covers rock
Breaks the shining scissor
You hurt me, I hurt her
And she goes and we will miss her
Scissors cut, paper covers rock
Breaks the shining scissor
You hurt me, I hurt her
And she, she goes and he will miss her
Scissors cut, paper covers rock
Breaks the shining scissor
You hurt me, I hurt her
And she goes and he will miss her
Scissors cut, paper covers rock
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.
"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls."
Don't know much about you
Don't know who you are
We've been doin' fine without
But we could only go so far
Don't know why you chose us
Were you watching from above
Is there someone there that knows us
Said we'd give you all our love.
Will you laugh just like your mother
Will you sigh like your old man
Will some things skip a generation
Like I've heard they often can.
Are you a poet or a dancer
A devil or a clown
Or a strange new combination of
The things we've handed down.
I wonder who you'll look like
Will your hair fall down and curl
Will you be a Mama's boy
Or Daddy's little girl
Will you be a sad reminder
Of what's been lost along the way
Maybe you can help me find her
In the things you do and say
And these things that we have given you
They are not so easily found
Oh, but you can thank us later for
The things we've handed down
The things we've handed down
down,down,down,down,down
You may not always be so grateful
For the way that you were made
Maybe some feature of your father's
That you'd gladly sell or trade
And one day you may look at us
And say that you were cursed
But over time that line has been
Extremely well rehearsed.
By our fathers and their fathers
In some old and distant town
From places no one here remebers
come
The things we've handed down
The things we've handed down, down
You were told to wait there for love,
Love said it's waiting for you.
It told me I could say?
I know, it's never easy getting all dressed up
With no place to go.
Helpful, that's what we're here for
All one together.
Harmony gets melody,
The orchestra gets its symphony,
The continents get seven seas,
Boy gets girl, and all you got was me
With The Promise I'd try to be honest,
I'd like to give you nothing to fear.
Lovers get, "I'm sorry."
Music gets to keep a key,
Children get to ride for free,
Mind and body is all you get of me
And The Promise I'd try to be honest,
I'd like to give you nothing to fear,
It's the same old tears on a new background
Seeing you as a fading photograph
It hurts too much to laugh these days
Alright, yes, alright, alright
It's the same old song with a new melody
But this old candle's lingering flame is almost gone
To see you again is all that keeps me hanging on
But I'm alright, yes, alright, alright
Remembering, remembering
The familiar heartache
No one but you
It's the same old me crying the same old tears
And I walk away like I always do
Still in love with you
Then Gabriel came and said to Joseph alone
"Do not be afraid to make Mary your own
But go to your betrothed and then be married
The child is Heaven sent"
And it came to pass
That there went out a decree
From Caesar Augustus
That all the world would be taxed
And each went to be taxed to his own city
So Joseph also went
With his lady innocent
With his lady innocent
The lions in the mountains
Let them pass and followed
Close by night to guard them
From Galilee to Bethlehem
She journeyed with only a donkey to ride
With Joseph walking beside
Came to David's city
While she was great with child
Through a country dark and wild
Through a country dark and wild
And on the far horizon
Rose a strange and brilliant
Well there won't be no stars
Coming out in the sky
Tonight when my baby walks by
Oh they know that they can't hold a
Candle to the look in her eye
Now I know that I'm not
The wisest of men
I guess mines the look of a fool
But somewhere inside I feel everything
Looking at you
Quand je vois ton visage
Dans n'importe quel langage
La, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da
Je dis je t'aime, je dis je t'aime, je t'aime, Marie
When the old people look out their window
I know they'll be happy to see
By the look in our eyes
True love hasn't died in Paris
Quand je vois ton visage
Dans n'importe quel langage
La, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da
Quand je vois ton visage
Dans n'importe quel langage
La, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da
Quand je vois ton visage
Dans n'importe quel langage
I've had time to write a book about
The way you act and look,
But I haven't got a paragraph.
Words are always getting in my way.
Anyway, I love you.
That's all I have to tell you,
Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.
Hello lamppost, What cha knowing?
I've come to watch your flowers growing.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo, Feelin' groovy.
Got no deeds to do, No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
All the friends I belived in
I believed in for a while
They had their flair
They had their style
But nobody quite got it right
Nobody knew just how it feels to be
me...
But sometimes when I'm dreaming
And I dream a lot these days
I need someone who understands
Who leads me through the haze
It's only when I'm dreaming
That I fall in love for real
But I wake up screaming
Sometimes when I'm dreaming
And it's now that I need a friend
I reach out for the phone
Nobody's there, nobody's home
Though it may not be right to give up the fight
I'm sailing away
Now I'm on my own
Alone...
But sometimes when I'm dreaming
And I dream a lot these days
I need someone who understands
Who leads me through the haze
It's only when I'm dreaming
That I fall in love for real
But I wake up screaming
Sometimes when I'm dreaming
But I wake up screaming
Far away when the day is raining
Far away when the sky is blue
Anytime at all
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Long ago, where the western breezes
Used to blow here into my heart
I would hear you call
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Love is like a melody
We simply can't forget
A sad and happy memory
We never shall regret
The magical duet
Far away when the day is sleeping
Far away where a starry sky
Waits for you to call
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Take me away from it all
The sun goes down and says goodnight
Pull your covers up real tight
By your bed we'll leave a light
To guide you off to dreamland
Your pillow's soft, your bed is warm
Your eyes are tired when day is done
One more kiss and you'll be gone
On your way to dreamland
Every sleepy boy and girl
In every bed around the world
Can hear the stars up in the sky
Whispering a lullaby
Who knows where you'll fly away
Winging past the light of day
The Man-in-the-Moon and the
Milky Way
Welcome you to dreamland
Every sleepy boy and girl
In every bed around the world
Can hear the stars up in the sky
Whispering a lullaby
Who knows where you'll fly away
Winging past the light of day
The Man-in-the-Moon and the
Milky Way
What a wonderful
wonderful world this could be.
What a wonderful
wonderful
wonderful
wonderful world.
Don't know much about history.
Don't know much biology.
Don't know much about science books.
Don't know much about the french I took.
But I do know that I love you.
And I know that if you love me too.
What a wonderful
wonderful world this would be.
Don't know much about geography.
Don't know much trigonometry.
Don't know much about algebra.
Don't know what a slide rule is for.
But I do know one and one is two.
And if this one could be with you.
What a wonderful
wonderful world this would be.
What a wonderful
wonderful
wonderful world.
Now I don't claim to be an "A"-student
But I'm try'n' to be.
I think that maybe by bein' an "A"-student baby
baby
I could win your love for me
Don't know much about the middle ages
I saw the pictures and I turned the pages
Don't know nothin' 'bout no rise and fall
Don't know nothin' 'bout nothin' at all.
Girl it's you that I've been thinkin' of
And if I could only win your love.
What a wonderful
wonderful world this would be.
What a wonderful
wonderful
wonderful world
this would be
What a wonderful
wonderful
wonderful
You are so wonderful
Being near you is all
That I'm living for
You've shown me more kindness
In little ways
Then I've ever known
In all my days
Tell me we'll stay together
Let me love your forever
'Cause you're a wonderful one
You're a wonderful one
In you, there is a rare quality
Your love baby
It means the world to me
For me, you're always concerned
And you ask nothing in return
You're really more than I deserve
From my heart I mean these words
You're a wonderful one
You're a wonderful one
You're really more than I deserve
From my heart I mean these words
You're a wonderful one
You're a wonderful one
Sometimes I'm up
Oh, sometimes I'm down
But your love
You're always around
Words of confidence
You speak to me
Baby, then you place a tender kiss
on my cheek
It makes my burden
A little bit lighter
It makes my life
A little bit brighter
'Cause you're a wonderful one
Let's fall in love
Why shouldn't we fall in love
Our hearts are made of it, let's take a chance
Why be afraid of it
Let's close our eyes
And make our own paradise
Little we know of it, still we can try
To make a go of it
We might have been meant for each other
To be or not to be, let our hearts discover
Let's fall in love
Why shouldn't we fall in love
Now is the time for it, while we are young
Let's fall in love
We might have been meant for each other
To be or not to be, let our hearts discover
Let's fall in love
Why shouldn't we fall in love
Now is the time for it, while we are young
Let's fall in love
If I were a carpenter
I'd build a world of love
Where we would always be together
If I were the captain of
A ship of happiness
I'd sail away with you forever
Close your eyes
And know you are safe with me
If I had a lariat
Made of dreams come true
I would lasso the moon for you
If I were a rocketeer
I'd scale the universe
To bring your heart a star each
morning
If I were an angel in
Heaven's Holy host
I'd sing to you a verse of glory
Close your eyes
And know you are safe with me
If I had a lariat
Made of dreams come true
Mary was an only child
Nobody held her, nobody smiled
She was born in a trailer, wretched and poor
And she shone like a gem in a five and dime store
Mary had no friends at all
Just famous faces pinned to the wall
All of them watched her, none of them saw
That she shone like a gem in a five and dime store
And if you watch the stars at night
And find them shining equally bright
You might have seen Jesus and not have known what you saw
Marionette, your dress is all wet
Did someone leave you outside in the rain,
Or is it the pain
that makes all the puppet tears
roll down your cheek
Or does the roof leak?
Marionette, how could you forget?
I told you your bright shining varnish
would peel
And how does it feel
with the bright rouge all faded and
the smile almost cracked
Now that you've come back?
Back to the toy shop by Brandenburg Gate
I hope not too late
'Cause my hands are much stiffer
Than they were when first I
painted your eyes.
Marionette, no you're not finished yet;
I'll mend you and make you like new,
Paint your eyes blue,
and make you as young as I was myself,
And there on the shelf...
You'll sit till the Puppet Man
I've been so unlucky, I'm no good at playing games
I remember their facesforget their names
Thought I'd found the right one, but she hasn't found me
So I bundle up my emotions and start
Looking For The Right One
But will the right one ever come along?
Oh, I'm Looking For The Right One
When will the right one come along?
They say there's no use runnin' after something you'll never get
But my heart says, "Don't say no."
Somewhere in this lonesome city is the woman for me
But would I wait another lifetime just to keep on
Looking For The Right One
But will the right one ever come along?
Oh, I'm Looking For The Right One
When will the right one come along?
They say love always comes and goes
Well, that I already know. Yes, I really know
Looking For The Right One
But will the right one ever come along?
Looking For The Right One
Will you take part in
My Life, My Love
That is my dream
Life is but a dream
Its what you make it
Always like to give
Don't never take it
Life has it's music
Life has it's song of love
Life is but a dream
And I dream of you
Strange as it seems
All night I see you
I'm trying to tell you
Just what you mean to me
I love you with all my heart
Adore you and all your charm
I want you to do your part
Come her to my open arms
Life is but a dream
And we can live it
We can make our love
None to compare with
Will you take part in
My Life, My Love
And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know.
God bless you, please Mrs. Robinson.
Heaven holds a place for those who pray,
Hey, hey, hey
We'd like to know a little bit about your for our files
We'd like to help you learn to help yourself.
Look around you all you see are sympathetic eyes,
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home.
And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know.
God bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson.
Heaven holds a place for those who pray,
Hey, hey, hey
Hide in the hiding place where no one ever goes.
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes.
It's a little secret just the Robinsons' affair.
Most of all you've got to hide it from the kids.
Koo-koo-ka-choo, Mrs. Robinson,
Jesus loves you more than you will know.
God bless you, please, Mrs. Robinson.
Heaven holds a place for those who pray,
Hey, hey, hey
Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon.
Going to the candidate's debate.
Laugh about it, shout about it
When you've got to choose
Every way you look at this you lose.
Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio,
Our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you.
What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson.
Jotting Joe has left and gone away,
Tell us once again this morning, old friend
how did you win the war?
Everybody loves a hero,
it won't matter if we've heard your
tale before
Tell us of the time when almost
everybody knew you were a star
And how intelligent you are
Prove that you're alive
Mr. Shuck 'n Jive
Tell us of the man who stole your for-
tune and nearly ruined your life.
Or better still-the one about the t.v. and
the couch and your best friends' wife
Tell us of grand projects never finished
with somebody else to blame
And all the reasons that your fame
never did arrive
Mr. Shuck 'n Jive
If you can get yourself together
kindly write a criticism of this song
How it's exquisitely constructed, yet
mechanical, and somehow slightly
wrong
Put it in your book about the enemy
you never even met
You know, you just might make it yet-
But I don't think you'll survive
Mr. Shuck 'n Jive
You know, you just might make it yet-
Morning has broken
Like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken
Like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing
Fresh from the world
Sweet, the rain's new fall
Sunlit from heaven
Like the first dew fall
On the first grass
Praise for the sweetness
Of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness
Where His feet pass
Mine is the sunlight
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light
Eden say play
Praise with elation
Praise ev'ry morning
God's recreation of the new day
Morning has broken
Like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken
Like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing
I've had many times I can tell you,
Times when innocence I'd trade for company.
And children saw me cryin',
I thought I'd had my share of that.
But these Miss You Nights...
Midnight diamonds stud my heaven,
Southward burning like the jewels that line her place.
And the warm winds that embrace me,
Just as surely kissed your face,
Yet these Miss You Nights,
Are the longest.
(How I miss you) How I miss you
I'm not likely to tell,
I'm a man, and the cold daylight
Buys the pride I'd rather sell.
(All my secrets) All my secrets
Are a wasted affair,
You know them well.
Thinkin' of my goin',
How to cut the thread and leave it all behind.
Looking moonward for my compass
I take each day as it arrives.
(Lay down) Lay down all thoughts of your surrender,
It's only me who's killin' time.
(Play down) Play down all dreams once remembered.
It's just the same, this miss-you game.
These Miss You Nights

Sometimes when I'm dreaming
When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry
them all;
I'm on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can't be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
When you're down and out,
When you're on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
I'll take your part.
When darkness comes
And pain is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Sail on silvergirl,
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
In this world of ordinary people
Extraordinary people
I'm glad there is you
In this world of over-rated pleasures
Of under-rated treasures
I'm so glad there is you
I live to love, I love to
live with you beside me
This role so new, I'll muddle
through with you to guide me
In this world where many, many play at love
And hardly any stay in love
I'm glad there is you
In this world where many, many play at love
And hardly any stay in love
I'm glad there is you

Whispering a lullaby
Who knows where you'll fly away
Winging past the light of day
The Man-in-the-Moon and the
Milky Way
Welcome you to dreamland
I met you once before the first time
Cinema 1 or 2, I noticed you
Standing in line, your eyes met mine
And I could not look away
There we were in a perfect moment
A perfect moment in time
For a moment, you were mine
So later on I knew the first time
That it would be alright for us that night
Trust in our eyes, we made a bridge of sighs
When we crossed over it was day
There we were in a perfect moment
A perfect moment in time
For a moment, you were mine
I wasn't ready for the last time
But wasn't I supposed to let you go into the blue?
But still I'm holding you
Though you're a million miles away
There we are in a perfect moment
A perfect moment in time
For a moment, you were mine
In a perfect moment
A perfect moment in time
For a moment, you are mine
For a moment, you are mine
Just for a moment, you were mine
Since we can no longer make it, girl,
I found a new place to live my life.
It's really no place at all,
Just a hole in the wall, you see.
It's cold and dusty but I let it be,
Livin' here without you,
On Second Avenue.
And since our stars took different paths,
I guess I won't be shavin' in your looking glass.
Guess my old friendly grin,
Must have started to dim, somehow,
And I certainly don't need it now,
Still, I keep smiling through,
On Second Avenue.
I can still see you standing
There on the third-floor landing.
The day you visited we hardly said a word.
Outside it was rainin',
You said you couldn't be stayin,
And you went back to your flowers and your birds.
Since we can no longer see the light
The way we did when we kissed that night,
Then all the things that we felt,
Must eventually melt and fade,
Like the frost on my window pane
Where I wrote, "I Am You,"
On Second Avenue.
Far away when the day is raining
Far away when the sky is blue
Anytime at all
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Long ago, where the western breezes
Used to blow here into my heart
I would hear you call
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Love is like a melody
We simply can't forget
A sad and happy memory
We never shall regret
The magical duet
Far away when the day is sleeping
Far away where a starry sky
Waits for you to call
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Take me away from it all
Take me away
Take me away from it all
Take me away

Through a country dark and wild

Rose a strange and brilliant
Star as though to guide them
Are you goin' to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.
Remember me to one who lives there,
she once was a true love of mine.
Tell her to make me a cambric shirt
(On the side of a hill in the deep forest green).
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Tracing a sparrow on snow-crested ground).
Without no seams nor needlework
(Blankets and bedclothes the child of the mountain).
Then she'll be a true love of mine
(Sleeps unaware of the clarion call).
Tell her to find me an acre of land
(On the side of a hill, a sprinkling of leaves).
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Washes the grave with silvery tears).
Between salt water and the sea strands
(A soldier cleans and polishes a gun).
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Tell her to reap it in a sickle of leather
(War bellows, blazing in scarlet battalions).
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme
(Generals order their soldiers to kill).
And gather it all in a bunch of heather
(And to fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten).
Then she'll be a true love of mine.
Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme.
Remember me to one who lives there,
she once was a true love of mine.
O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Oh How Happy you have made me,
Oh How Happy you have made me.
I have kissed your lips a thousand times,
And more times than I can count,
I have called you mine.
You have stood by me in my darkest hour.
Oh How Happy you have made me,
Oh How Happy you have made me.
Oh How Happy you have made me,
Oh How Happy you have made me.
Through our years together
We have had stormy weather,
But our love has been so strong,
That's, love, how we carry on.
Oh How Happy you have made me,
Oh How Happy you have made me.
You brought joy in my empty life,
All that was wrong, you made it right.
My love, my love, my love
Oh How Happy you have made me,
Oh How Happy you have made me.
Oh How Happy, Oh How Happy,
Oh How Happy
Oh How Happy you have made me,
Oh How Happy you have made me.
She walks in the field that's just across the way
And picks all the flowers that brighten up a day.
And the blue velvet cape that she wore around her neck,
And the red in her cheeks gave a Rag Doll effect.
The wind in the trees sings a sad, sad, sad song,
I lie in my bed listenin' all night long.
A wind in the trees sing a song just for me,
And bring back the Rag Doll to me.
Oh, how I long to have her back here by my side.
The happiness of yesterday, it damn near cost my pride.
There ain't nothin' worse than losin' when you've everything to gain.
I've just got to get that woman back or nothing will be the same.
The wind in the trees sings a sad, sad, sad, sad song,
I lie in my bed listenin' all night long.
A wind in the trees sing a song just for me,
And bring back the Rag Doll to me.
I heard a nightingale croon last night in town.
I smiled up at the moon, had another round.
You've got to be the prettiest girl I've found,
And I'm gonna Sail On A Rainbow.
I'm gonna dance all night in the rain.
I'll keep on sailin' on a rainbow,
Till I hold you in my arms again.
In sunny spring we were sweethearts
Sleeping in the sand.
Our love was an endless dream,
No one could understand.
Just like pennies from heaven,
I know I cannot fail,
And I'm gonna Sail On A Rainbow.
I'm gonna dance all night in the rain.
I'll keep on sailin' on a rainbow
Till I hold you in my arms again.
So, I'm gonna Sail On A Rainbow.
I'm gonna dance all night in the rain.
I'll keep on sailin' on a rainbow
Till I hold you in my arms, till I hold you in my arms,
Till I hold you in my arms again, till I hold you in my arms again.
All week long we've been looking at
horizons and it's hard on the brain
Sometimes I wonder is it the car or the
highway that rolls through the rain.
This day has no number
This day has no name
But it's time for the weekend all the same
Why don't you put on your Saturday Suit,
Let's fly away,
We can find ourselves a little cafe
Where the street people come to play
And let the wine and the sunshine
blow our minds away
Saturday Suit me fine...today
All week long we've been sitting on our
islands looking within
Sometimes I know it must seem like
we'll never be happy again
Put on your makeup
And I'll shine my shoes
I know that it's Monday, but I'm
bored with the blues
Why don't you put on your Saturday Suit,
Let's fly away,
We can find ourselves a little cafe
Where the street people come to play
And let the wine and the sunshine
blow our minds away
Remember me to one who lives there,
Everyone has gone away
Can you hear me? Can you hear me?
No one cared enough to stay
Can you hear me?
You must remember me, old man
I know that you can if you try
So just open up your eyes, old man
Look who's come to say, "Goodbye"
The sun has left the sky, old man
The birds have flown away
And no one came to cry, old man
Goodbye, old man, goodbye
You wanna stay, I know you do
But it ain't no use to try
'Cause I'll be here and I'm just like you
Goodbye, old man, goodbye
Won't be no God to comfort you
You taught me not to believe that lie
You don't need anybody, nobody needs you
Don't cry, old man, don't cry
Don't know what to do,
Someone that I knew
Never strayed from home
When I'd leave her alone.
Now I watch the people on the street,
Fix myself a drink,
Try not to think
Of the someone I knew.
One Less Holiday
As time slips away.
And all that's left is
You can't erase the Paper Chase
She'll make you play it
In the bright merry morning
She'll run and hide
And leave you the paper promises
Behind her as she runs across the square
You can't win the race, She'll set the pace
You will hear her laughing
Just behind the foolish fences
Throw back the gate and find the
Piece of paper lying on the curbstone,
But the lady won't be there.
Later in the day,
You'll be searching for a way
To let her know you're ready
For her little game to end
Cause it's getting dark, and then-
You'll see her face, a glimpse of lace
And you'll go running
Through the last sweet dying daydream
Calling her name, but she's been home an hour,
Laughing at the mirror
I met you once before the first time
Cinema 1 or 2, I noticed you
Standing in line, your eyes met mine
And I could not look away
There we were in a perfect moment
A perfect moment in time
For a moment, you were mine
So later on I knew the first time
That it would be alright for us that night
Trust in our eyes, we made a bridge of sighs
When we crossed over it was day
There we were in a perfect moment
A perfect moment in time
For a moment, you were mine
I wasn't ready for the last time
But wasn't I supposed to let you go into the blue?
But still I'm holding you
Though you're a million miles away
There we are in a perfect moment
A perfect moment in time
For a moment, you were mine
In a perfect moment
A perfect moment in time
For a moment, you are mine
For a moment, you are mine
(George Motolo - John S.Marascalco)
Good night, my love.
Pleasant dreams and sleep tight my love.
May tomorrow be sunny and bright,
and bring you closer to me.
Before you go, there's just one thing I'd like to know.
Is your love still strong for me,
Or has it grown old?
If you should awake, in the still of the night.
Please have no fear, for I'll be there.
(Aaron Schroeder & Wally Gold)
I don't want a four leaf clover
I don't want a old horseshoe
I want your kiss
'Cause I just can't miss
With a good luck charm like you
C'mon and be my little good luck
charm uh huh huh
You sweet delight
I got a good luck charm
Hanging on my arm
To have, to hold
Tonight
I don't want a silver dollar
A rabbit's foot on a string
Happiness and your warm caress
No rabbit's foot can bring
C'mon and be my little good luck
charm, uh huh huh
You sweet delight
I got a good luck charm
Hanging on my arm
To have, to hold
Tonight
Uh huh huh, uh huh huh, uh huh huh,
oh yeah
Uh huh huh, uh huh huh, uh huh huh,
oh yeah
If I found a lucky penny
I'd toss it across the bay
Your love is worth all the gold on earth
No wonder that I say
C'mon and be my little good luck
charm, uh huh huh
You sweet delight
I got a good luck charm
Hanging on my arm
To have, to hold
Tonight
Uh huh huh, uh huh huh, uh huh huh,
oh yeah
Uh huh huh, uh huh huh, uh huh huh,
oh yeah
Uh huh huh, uh huh huh, uh huh huh,
Well, the rain's fallin' down around you
So you cry yourself to sleep
I know love hurts when one doesn't love as deep
You're feelin' lost and empty
'Cause you gave yourself away
But don't be ashamed to cry, it's okay
But you've gotta hang on in
Baby, be strong
Love will always find a way
No, you can't give up
You've just gotta go on
Tomorrow's gonna be a brighter day
Hang on
You keep searchin' for the reasons
As you walk the lonely halls
You wait by a telephone but he never calls
Time's the only healer
For the broken hearts of glass
Love is like the wind it too shall pass
But you've gotta hang on in
Baby, be strong
Love will always find a way
No, you can't give up
You've just gotta go on
Tomorrow's gonna be a brighter day
Hang on
I know what you're goin' through
Every time you see his face
And I don't know where or when
But I know that you'll love again
Hang on in
Baby, be strong
Love will always find a way
No, you can't give up
You've just gotta go on
Tomorrow's gonna be a brighter day
(John Bucchino)
I've got a roof over my head
I've got a warm place to sleep
Some nights I lie awake counting gifts
Instead of counting sheep
I've got a heart that can hold love
I've got a mind that can think
There may be times when I lose the light
And let my spirits sink
But I can't stay depressed
When I remember how I'm blessed
Grateful, grateful
Truly grateful I am
Grateful, grateful
Truly blessed
And duly grateful
In a city of strangers
I got a family of friends
No matter what rocks and brambles fill the way
I know that they will stay until the end
I feel a hand holding my hand
It's not a hand you can see
But on the road to the promised land
This hand will shepherd me
Through delight and despair
Holding tight and always there
Grateful, grateful
Truly grateful I am
Grateful, grateful
Truly blessed
And duly grateful
It's not that I don't want a lot
Or hope for more, or dream of more
But giving thanks for what I've got
Makes me happier than keeping score
In a world that can bring pain
I will still take each chance
For I believe that whatever the terrain
Our feet can learn to dance
Whatever stone life may sling
We can moan or we can sing
Grateful, grateful
Truly grateful I am
Grateful, grateful
Truly blessed
And duly grateful
Truly blessed
Shattered dreams, worthless years
Here am I encased inside a hollow shell.
Life began, then was done
Now I stare into a cold and empty well.
The many sounds that meet our ears,
The sights our eyes behold,
Will open up our merging hearts
And feed our empty souls.
I Believe When I Fall In Love With You It Will Be Forever.
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever.
Without despair we will share
And the joys of caring will not be replaced.
What has been must never end
And with the strength we have won't be erased.
When the truths of love are planted firm they're only hard to find,
And the words of love I speak to you will echo in my mind.
I Believe When I Fall In Love With You It Will Be Forever.
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever.
I Believe When I Fall In Love With You It Will Be Forever.
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever.
I Believe When I Fall In Love With You It Will Be Forever.
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever.
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever.
I Believe When I Fall In Love With You It Will Be Forever.
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever.
(P. Simon)
I'm sitting in the railway station.
Got a ticket to my destination.
On a tour of one-night stands my suitcase and guitar in hand.
And ev'ry stop is neatly planned for a poet and a one-man band.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Ev'ry day's an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines.
And each town looks the same to me, the movies and the factories
And ev'ry stranger's face I see reminds me that I long to be,
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Tonight I'll sing my songs again,
I'll play the game and pretend.
But all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony I need someone to comfort me.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
I remember you
You're the one who made my dreams come true
A few kisses ago
I remember you
You're the one, who said, "I love you too"
Didn't you know?
I remember too
A distant bell and stars that fell
Like rain out of the blue
When my life is through
And the angels ask me to recall the thrill of them all
Then I will tell them, I remember you
I remember too
A distant bell and stars that fell
Like rain out of the blue, I miss you, darling
When my life is through
And the angels ask me to recall the thrill of them all
I love him, I'm his,
And everything he is, I am, too.
I love her, we're one,
There's nothing to be done.
I Have A Love
And it's all that I need.
Not a thing I can do (Not a thing I can do).
When love comes so strong,
There is no right or wrong.
Your love is so strong (When love comes so strong,
There is no right or wrong.)
Your love is so strong. (I love him, I'm his.)
Be with her now forever. (And everything he is.)
And love her. (Your love?)
My love?(My life?)
I Have A Love
And there's nothing to be done
Right or wrong.
(I love him, with a love) I Have A Love
And there's nothing to be done,
Right or wrong.
(I love him, with a love) I Have A Love
And there's nothing to be done,
Who knows how long I've loved you
D'you know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to, I will
For if I ever saw you
I didn't catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same
Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we're together
Love you when we're apart
And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
'Cause the things you do endear you
to me
I shall sing, sing my song
Be it right, be it wrong
In the night, in the day
Anyhow, anyway
I shall sing
La la la
La la la
La la la
With my heart, with my soul
For the young, for the old
When I'm high, when I'm low
When I'm first, when I'm slow
I shall sing
La la la
La la la
La la la
I shall sing, sing my song
Be it right, be it wrong
In the night, in the day
Anyhow, anyway
I shall sing
La la la
La la la
La la la
La la la
La la la
La la la
I've been so far away from you while standing by your side.
There were nights we were so in love, that lovin' made us blind.
But that time is so far below us now, the memory's so thin.
It's So Easy To Begin, but it's so hard to stop, this love,
It's just so hard to stop.
When a heart that's lookin' for lovin' leads you in,
It's So Easy To Begin.
I know I've saved some lessons from the time I fell apart.
And I know you've been wondering why I look at you so hard.
It's 'cause I never want to wake up some day and wonder where we've been.
It's So Easy To Begin, but it's so hard to stop, this love,
It's just so hard to stop.
When a heart that's lookin' for lovin' leads you in,
It's So Easy To Begin.
It's So Easy To Begin.
I'm tired of tracing vapor trail, ghost letters in the sky
Living life in daydreams, watching precious time get by
Circle around this great big world, just chasing smoke
And never touching ground
Like a skywriter, rebel without a cause, drifting without an aim
But I can't seem to give up this flying game
I'm a wing walker, working without a net
That's all I've ever been
And I wonder if I'm ever coming down again
Some people say, I'm losing touch with harsh reality
Because I can't accept the way it is with you and me
Stop living in the past, like some old pilot from
A war that wouldn't end
Like a barnstormer
Safe with my heart and wings
How could I ever fall
So serenely do I glide above it all
I'm a skywriter
I can't forget you yet
For whatever that it's worth
And then sometimes I think
I'm never coming back
Skywriter
I can't forget you yet
For whatever that it's worth
And then sometimes I think
What a wonderful, wonderful world this would be
What a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful world
Don't know much about history
Don't know much biology
Don't know much about a science fic
Don't know much about the French I took
(But I do know)
But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you love me, too
What a wonderful, wonderful world this would be
Don't know much about geography
Don't know much trigonometry
Don't know much about algebra
I don't know what a slide rule is for
(But I do know)
But I do know one and one is two
And if this one could be with you
A wonderful world
What a wonderful, wonderful world this would be
What a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful world
Now I don't claim to be an 'A' student
But I'm tryin' to be
I think that maybe by bein' an 'A' student, baby baby
I could win your love for me
Don't know much about the Middle Ages
Looked at the pictures then I turned the pages
Don't know nothin' 'bout no rise and fall
Don't know nothin' 'bout nothin' at all
(But I do know)
Girl it's you that I've been thinkin' of
And if I could only win your love, oh girl
What a wonderful, what a wonderful world this would be
What a wonderful, wonderful world this would be
What a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful world
What a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful world
What a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful world
I love the rain
Love the way it falls on everything
Its way of turning brown to green
And gray to blue
That's what I love about rain
That's what I love about you
I love the sun
Love the way it shines on everyone
The way it makes the morning come
And colours true
That's what I love about the sun
That's what I love about you
CHORUS
I don't know why mountains crumble
Or what could hold the stars apart
And I may never know but still I wonder
Why you let me in your heart
I love the rain
Love the rain it washes something clean
And pushes rivers to the sea
To fall anew
That's what I love about the rain
That's what I love about you
Repeat Chorus
I love the rain
Love the way it washes something clean
And pushes rivers to the sea
To fall anew
That's what I love about the rain
That's what I love about you
That's what I love about the rain
I Wonder Why it is the sky's so quiet tonight,
There's not a cloud in sight,
Just burning stars.
It seems strange to me, the way the waves obey
The moon that shines above
And draws them to eternity.
I Wonder Why it is that you are here with me,
I Wonder Why.
I Wonder Why it is the sea's so calm tonight,
The sands are ghostly (fantasmal)white
Beneath (Debajo de) the moon.
It seems strange to me to stand in endless space,
And know that in this place
I'm held within its timeless sway (s=dominio; v= tambalearse).
I Wonder Why it is that you are here with me.
I Wonder Why.
The wisdom of the world with all its mystery
Is strangely haunting (Fascinante) me on this great shore (orilla).
I know no book can teach, but I can feel tonight,
The sky above, the sea below (debajo de),
And you my love.
Tonight the world is mine, we're on the edge (acercarse despacio) of time.
I Wonder Why.
I Wonder Why it is the sky's so quiet tonight,
There's not a cloud in sight,
Just burning stars.
It seems strange to me, that breeze (brisa)in holy (santo) light,
We soar in wingless (ala) flight (incapaz de volar),
Amidst this vast eternity.
Tonight this world of mine is on the edge of time,
I Wonder Why.
I Wonder Why.
I Wonder Why.
In this world of ordinary people
Extraordinary people
I'm glad there is you
In this world of over-rated pleasures
Of under-rated treasures
I'm so glad there is you
I live to love, I love to
live with you beside me
This role so new, I'll muddle
through with you to guide me
In this world where many, many play at love
And hardly any stay in love
I'm glad there is you
In this world where many, many play at love
And hardly any stay in love
Time's on your hands, on your hands
But you never had so much to do.
She's got your heart, got your heart
She'll never give it back to you.
You know love takes time,
But it's well worth the wait.
Tell her today, boy, tomorrow's way too late.
If Love Takes You Away,
It can take you where you want to go.
If Love Takes You Away,
Let it take you where you'll never go.
Wait for tonight, for tonight,
Tonight is always on its way.
Talk with a beat, with a beat,
You never had so much to say.
Put your heart down as a bet,
Winner gets a kiss.
If you're playing the first time,
You can't miss.
If Love Takes You Away,
It can take you where you want to go.
If Love Takes You Away…
(Love takes you away, away)
It's all in the way, all in the way,
All in the way you show,
You're not afraid to climb,
'Cause it may be the first time,
Yes, it may be the last time,
You never really know.
If Love Takes You Away,
It can take you where you want to go.
If Love Takes You Away,
(Love'll take you, it'll take you)
If Love Takes You Away,
(Oh, love takes you away, away)
If Love Takes You Away,
(Oh, Love Takes You Away, away)
I know it's late but I can't sleep tonight,
'Cause I got something on my mind.
I could try one more time to turn out the light,
But I just can't make myself unwind.
'Cause every time I close my eyes I see your face,
And I find my eyes wide open, and I'm starin' into space.
Some think it's been too long this time,
I can hardly stand another day.
With all the miles and miles between us
Can it be that tomorrow holds a promise
Of joy for you and me?
In A Little While I'll Be On My Way,
So hold on, baby, just-a one more day,
In A Little While I'll Be On My Way, to you.
Oh, yeah.
Come tomorrow I'll be home, and you can be satisfied,
'Cause we can leave this lonely life behind.
In the mornin' I can wake up with a smile
'Cause I'll be on my way back home to you,
Feelin' better by the mile.
In A Little While I'll Be On My Way,
So hold on, baby, just-a one more day,
In A Little While I'll Be On My Way, to you.
In A Little While I'll Be On My Way,
So hold on, baby, just-a one more day.
In A Little While I'll Be On My Way,
I've grown accustomed to her face,
she almost makes the day begin
I've grown accustomed to the tune
she whistles night an' noon
Her smiles, her frowns,
her ups, her downs
are second nature to me now
like breathing out and breathing in
I was serenely independent
and content, before we met
surely I could always be that way again, and yet,
I've grown accustomed to her looks
accustomed to her voice
If I loved you
Time and again I would try to say
All I'd want you to know!
If I loved you
Words wouldn't come in an easy way
'Round in circles I'd go!
Longing to tell you
But afraid an' shy
I'd let my golden chances pass me by!
Soon you'd leave me
Off you would go in the mist of day
Never, never to know
How I loved you
If I loved you!
Soon you'd leave me
Off you would go in the mist of day
Never, never to know
How I loved you
A world of its own,
The streets where we played,
The friends on every corner were the best we ever made.
The backyards, and the school yards
And the trees that watched us grow,
The days of love when dinner time was all you had to know.
Whenever I think of yesterday,
I close my eyes and see,
That place Just Over The Brooklyn Bridge
That will always be home to me.
She was bronzing in the sun drinking a cool rum punch
When a guy named D' Gatoni said, "Wow! Let me take
Your picture. You could be a model, girl. There's a guy
I know to show you how."
Now a model waves good-bye as on the plane she flies
Off to meet the king, the King of Tonga,
King of Tonga.
Now the girl gets to the palace dressed in black silk lace,
She says, "Well, my king of fashion and fame?"
And the king swings down and he fall on his face,
Said, "I'm so really, really glad you came."
Now the girl tries to resist, running from his kiss.
Now she's callin' the cops on the King of Tonga,
King of Tonga.
Daddy still doesn't momma night,
Tells her son, "Son, you squeeze her tight."
His daddy taught him everything he knows,
So the king steals the daddy's clothes.
Now the police knew the king, they knew him very well.
They said, "King, king what's the matter now?"
He said, "Boys, you've got to talk to this bride-to-be,
'Cause this crazy girl won't take my vow."
They said, "Give her romance."
And the king takes a chance,
And soon there'll be a new Queen
For the King of Tonga,
King of Tonga.
King of Tonga.
Went to school in cars, in our cars, pretty girls
Cruisin' after the game, watchin' radio
Let your baby know in cars, restaurant mobile
Two behind the wheel like double-neck guitars
In our cars
We fell in love in cars, in a car at the show
Silhouettes on the glass, memories in chrome
Take your baby home in cars, everything was warm
What a perfect form underneath the stars
In our cars
I remember you, everything was new
Talking in the dark, everything was true
If you go when the snowflakes storm
When the rivers freeze and summer ends
Please see she has a coat so warm
To keep her from the howling winds
If you're travelin' in the North Country fair
Where the winds get heavy on the border line
Remember me to one who lives there
A stick, a stone, it's the end of the road,
It's the rest of a stump, it's a little alone,
It's a sliver of glass, it is life, it's the sun,
It is night, it is death, it's a trap, it's a gun.
The oak when it blooms, a fox in the brush,
The nod of the wood, the song of a thrush,
The wood of the wing, a cliff, a fall,
A scratch, a lump, it is nothing at all.
It's the wind blowing free, it's the end of a slope,
It's a bean, it's a void, it's a hunch, it's a hope.
And the riverbank talks of the Waters of March,
It's the end of the strain, it's the joy in your heart.
The foot, the ground, the flesh and the bone,
The beat of the road, a sling-shot stone,
A truckload of bricks in the soft morning light,
The shot of a gun in the dead of the night.
A mile, a must, a thrust, a bump,
It's a girl, it's a rhyme, it's a cold, it's the mumps.
The plan of the house, the body in bed,
And the car that got stuck, it's the mud, it's the mud.
Afloat, adrift, a flight, a wing,
A cock, a quail, the promise of spring.
And the riverbank talks of the Waters of March,
It's the promise of life, it's the joy in your heart.
A point, a grain, a bee, a bite,
A blink, a buzzard, a sudden stroke of night,
A pin, a needle, a sting, a pain,
A snail, a riddle, a wasp, a stain.
A snake, a stick, it is John, it is Joe,
A fish, a flash, a silvery glow.
And the riverbank talks of the Waters of March,
It's the promise of life in your heart, in your heart.
A stick, a stone, the end of the load,
The rest of a stump, a lonesome road.
A sliver of glass, a life, the sun,
A night, a death, the end of the run.
And the riverbank talks of the Waters of March,
Here we are, out of cigarettes
Holding hands and yawning
Look how late it gets.
Two Sleepy People
By dawn's early light,
And too much in love
To say, "Good night."
Here we are, in the cozy chair
Pickin' on a wishbone
From the Frigidaire,
Two Sleepy People
With nothing to say,
And too much in love to break away.
Do you remember
The nights we used to linger in the hall?
Your father didn't like me at all.
Do you remember
The reason why we married in the fall?
To rent this little nest
And get a bit of rest, well.
Here we are
Just about the same
Foggy little fella,
Drowsy little dame.
Two Sleepy People
With nothing to say
And too much in love to break away.
Two Sleepy People
By dawn's early light,
And too much in love
To say, "Good night."
Two Sleepy People
With nothing to say
And too much in love to break away.
Do you remember
The nights we used to linger in the hall?
Your father didn't like me at all.
Do you remember
The reasons why we married in the fall?
To rent this little nest
And get a bit of rest, well.
Here we are
Just about the same
Foggy little fella,
Drowsy little dame.
Two Sleepy People
By dawn's early light,
And too much in love
You've come Up In The World,
And it's all to your credit.
You made something of your life
Like you always said you would.
But what ever happened to the girl
I used to know and all those halcyon days of love?
You've come Up In The World,
And it's such a shame.
You made success of a dream,
But it seems so empty now
With your weak excuses and your
Condescending ways and
Many a tear has to fall
But It's All In The Game.
All in the wonderful game
That we know as love.
You have words with him
And your future's looking dim,
But these things your hearts can rise above.
Once in a while he won't call,
But It's All In The Game.
Soon he'll be there at your side
With a sweet refrain.
And he'll kiss your lips,
And caress your waking fingertips,
And your hearts will fly away.
And he'll kiss your lips,
And caress your waking fingertips,
And your hearts will fly away,
And your hearts will fly away.
And your hearts will fly
When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry
them all;
I'm on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can't be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
When you're down and out,
When you're on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
I'll take your part.
When darkness comes
And pain is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Sail on silvergirl,
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
(Bob Gundry, Jeffrey Camanor)
Lost again.
I see it in your eyes you feel alone again.
I made it just in time to break your fall again.
You thought you'd come so far, but here we are again.
Down again.
I see it on your face the hope is gone just when,
You thought the pieces fit, but you fell apart again.
And as I was before, here I am again.
But if you could see Beyond The Tears,
You'd know love won't desert you.
To see beyond the tears, you know I'll never hurt you.
To see the sun behind the rain, feel the joy behind the pain.
You know you'll see me standin' right beyond the tears
Once again, I see it in your look, you're feelin' lost again.
And now you are afraid to try your love again,
'Cause this lonely moment feels like the end.
But if you could see Beyond The Tears
You'd know love won't desert you.
To see beyond the tears, you know I'll never hurt you.
To see the sun behind the rain, feel the joy behind the pain.
You know you'll see me standin' right beyond the tears.
When alone turns to lonely, and loneliness to fear,
It's so easy to imagine love will disappear,
But love is always here.
If you could see Beyond The Tears,
You'd know love won't desert you.
To see beyond the tears, you know I'll never hurt you.
To see the sun behind the rain, feel the joy behind the pain.
You know you'll see me standin' right beyond the tears
See me standin' right Beyond The Tears,
See me standin' right Beyond The Tears,
(P. Simon)
April come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain;
May, she will stay,
Resting in my arms again.
June, she'll change her tune,
In restless walks she'll prowl the night;
July, she will fly
And give no warning to her flight.
August, die she must,
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold;
September I'll remember
I thought my searchin' was done when I found you.
So sure that you were the one it was all leading to.
I can't believe that you're walking away
Now no other will do.
You say, to give it time, that I will see,
That you are only doing what is best for me
But I say that my chances now can only be
None to none of finding another only one.
I would so love to believe, it's best for you to go,
Right now, I could use anything to soften the blow.
I can't deny what I know to be to be true,
What you want for me, I just can't be for you.
You say, to give it time, that I will see,
That you are only doing what is best for me
But I say that my chances now can only be
None to none of finding another only one.
Some people never get as far as finding their only true one.
And would they ever go so far as far to say I am lucky.
I don't feel so lucky tonight.... tonight... tonight...
You say, to give it time, that I will see,
That you are only doing what is best for me
But I say that my chances now can only be
None to none of finding another only one.
Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together
I've got some real estate here in my bag
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner's pies
And we walked off to look for America
Cathy I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
Michigan seems like a dream to me now
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've gone to look for America
Laughing on the bus playing games with the faces
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said be careful his bowtie is really a camera
Toss me a cigaret I think there's one in the raincoat
We smoked the last one an hour ago
So I looked at the scenary she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field
Cathy I'm lost I said though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come to look for America
Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.
Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble, give a whistle,
This'll help things turn out for the best.
Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.
Always look on the right side of life.
If life seems jolly-rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing!
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly, chumps,
Just purse your lips and whistle,
That's the thing!
So, always look on the bright side of death,
Just before you draw your terminal breath,
Life's a counterfeit,
And when you look at it,
Life's a laugh, and death's the joke,
It's true!
You see, it's all a show,
Keep them laughing as you go,
Just remember the last laugh is on you!
(Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.)
(P. Simon)
The last train is nearly due,
The underground is closing soon,
And in the dark deserted station,
Restless in anticipation,
A man waits in the shadows.
His restless eyes leap and scratch,
At all that they can touch or catch,
And hidden deep within his pocket,
Safe within its silent socket,
He holds a colored crayon.
Now from the tunnel's stony womb,
The carriage rides to meet the groom,
And opens wide and welcome doors,
But he hesitates, then withdraws
Deeper in the shadows.
And the train is gone suddenly
On wheels clicking silently
Like a gently tapping litany,
And he holds his crayon rosary
Tighter in his hand.
Now from his pocket quick he flashes,
The crayon on the wall he slashes,
Deep upon the advertising,
A single worded poem comprised
Of four letters.
And his heart is laughing, screaming, pounding
The poem across the tracks rebounding
Shadowed by the exit light
His legs take their ascending flight
(H. David, A. Hammond)
Keeping my eyes on the road, I see you.
Keeping my hands on the wheel, I hold you.
99 Miles From L.A., I kiss you, I miss you, please be there.
Passing the white sandy beach, we're sailing.
Turning the radio on, we're dancing.
99 Miles From L.A., I want you, I need you, please be there.
The windshield is covered with rain, I'm cryin'.
Pressing my foot on the gas, I'm flyin'.
Counting the telephone poles, I phone you.
Reading the signs on the road, I write you.
99 Miles From L.A., we're laughing, we're loving, please be there.
Counting the telephone poles, I phone you.
Reading the signs on the road, I write you.
Young and free, young and free
How I feel in your company
If only yesterday I've hesitated to say
What would be come of me
Young and free, young and free
Know too much, know too much
Keeps you old and gray and out of touch
The words are quick to sound
The arms are slow to fall around a knowing touch
Young and free, young and free
The clock alarms, the day begins
The lady charms, the blood it spins
She's trying on the satin shoes
She wants to fly to Baton Rouge
Yeah, the clock alarms, the day begins
The lady charms, the blood it spins
She's wants to buy the satin shoes
She wants to fly to Baton Rouge
I don't know why to Baton Rouge
Oh autumn day, autumn day
Leaves like birds, up and flown away
Used to days I used to wake up dead and moan
Stay in bed, the curtains drawn all day
Young and free
Young and free
Young and free
(Ned Washington/Frank Churchill)
Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part, baby of mine
Little one, when you play
Pay no mind to what they say
Let your eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear, baby of mine
If they knew all about you
They'd end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they'd give for just the right to
hold you
And if they knew all about you
They'd end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they'd give for just the right to
hold you
From your head to your toes
You're not much, heaven knows
But you're so precious to me
Sweet as an be, baby of mine
You're so precious to me, baby of mine
Baby of mine
Close your eyes, my pretty child
Though the night is dark and the wind is wild
I will stand beside your bed
Tonight there is nothing you need fear or dread
You can sleep now, go to sleep
The rain falls and the windows weep
I'm standing by to sing a lullaby
Close your eyes, my sister fair
Though the snow is falling and the trees are bare
And I will hold you by the hand
Tonight there is nothing you need try to understand
You can sleep now, go to sleep
The daytime's dyin' and the night time's so deep
I'm standing by to sing a lullaby
Close your eyes, my mother wise
When the waves are angry and the north train cries
I stop those ghosts outside your door
Mama, don't worry 'bout those ghosts no more
You can sleep now, go to sleep
Tomorrow comes but it will keep
I'm standing by to sing a lullaby
Spin that wheel, just let go
Where she falls, nobody knows
Save your breath
Let those snake eyes roll
We bounce between the devil and the deep blue sea
Bounce between forever and what may never be
Let the light of love keep bouncing off
The diamond in the darker side of me
I never had no education
Just an in articulation of the heart
But burning deep inside me
There is a diamond in the dark
Catch that flame, let it warm your soul
Love's cruel game, is the great unknown
All that fear
Do you know you're not alone
We bounce between the devil and the deep blue sea
Bounce between forever and what may never be
We bounce between decisions, destinations constantly
Let the light of love keep bouncing off
The diamond in the darker side of me
I never had no education
Just an in articulation of the heart
But burning deep inside me
There is a diamond in the dark
A shine, a flash and then it's over
A lightning strike, a chance remark
Am I the only one here
Like a diamond in the dark
(Arranged by Art Garfunkel)
All in the merry month of May,
When green buds all are swellin'.
Sweet William on his deathbed lay for love of Barbara Allen.
He sent his servant to the town,
The place where she did dwell in.
Saying, "Master dear has sent me here if your name be Barbara Allen."
Then slowly, slowly she got up and slowly she went to him,
And all she said when there she came was, "Young man, I think you're dying.
"Don't you remember the other night when we were in the tavern?
You drank a toast to the ladies there and slighted Barbara Allen."
He turned his face unto the wall,
He turned his back upon her.
"Adieu, adieu, to all my friends.
And be kind, be kind to Barbara Allen."
As she was wandering on the fields she heard the death bell knellin'.
And every note, it seemed to say,
"Hard-hearted Barbara Allen!"
The more it tolled the more she grieved,
She bursted out a-crying.
"Oh, pick me up and carry me home.
I fear that I am dying."
They buried Willy in the old church yard and Barbara in the new one,
And from William's grave, there grew a rose, from Barbara's, a green briar.
They grew and grew in the old church yard,
Till they could grow no higher,
And there they tied in a true lover's knot,
Is it a kind of a dream
Floating out on the tide
Following the river of death downstream
Oh, is it a dream?
There's a fog along the horizon
A strange glow in the sky
And nobody seems to know where it goes
And what does it mean?
Oh, is it a dream?
Bright eyes, burning like fire
Bright eyes, how can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes
Is it a kind of a shadow
Reaching into the night
Wandering over the hills unseen
Oh, is it a dream?
There's a high wind in the trees
A cold sound in the air
And nobody ever knows when you go
And where do you start?
Oh, into the dark
Bright eyes, burning like fire
Bright eyes, how can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes
Bright eyes, burning like fire
Bright eyes, how can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly
Suddenly burn so pale?
I watch the distant lights on the runway
Disappear into the evening sky
Oh you know I'm with you on your journey
Never could say, "Goodbye"
It's not the sun you're trying to find
Something else is on your mind
You need a little space and time to break away
It's not the place you're going to
It's just a phase you're going through
Though I won't stop you I don't want you to
Break away, fly across your ocean
Break away, time has come for you
Break away, fly across your ocean
Break away, time has come
For you to awaken in another country
Greet the morning under foreign skies
Leaving me to face another Monday
It's not easy to get by
It's not the sun you're trying to find
Something else is on your mind
You need a little space and time to break away
It's not the place you're going to
It's just a phase you're going through
Though I won't stop you I don't want you to
Break away
Fly across your ocean
Break away
(Break away, break away)
Time has come for you
Break away
(Break away, break away)
Fly across your ocean
Break away
(Break away, break away)
Time has come for you
Break away
(Break away, break away)
Fly across your ocean
Break away
(Carole King, Howard Greenfield)
I'll never let you see
The way my broken heart is hurting me
I've got my pride and I know how to hide
All the sorrow and pain
I'll do my crying in the rain
If I wait for cloudy skies
You won't know the rain from the tears in my eyes
You'll never know that I still love you so
Though the heart aches remain
I'll do my crying in the rain
Raindrops falling from heaven
They could never wash away my memories
Since we're not together
I look for stormy weather
To hide these tears I hope you'll never see
Someday when my crying's done
I'm going to wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool, but till then darling you'll
Never see me complaining
I'll do my crying in the rain
Since we're not together
I look for stormy weather
To hide these tears I hope you'll never see
Someday when my crying's done
I'm going to wear a smile and walk in the sun
I may be a fool but till then darling you'll
Never see me complaining
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I'll do my crying in the rain
I know where to hide my eyes
Crying, crying, crying
I'll do my crying in the rain
Strahlende Augen
My love must be a kind of blind love
I can't see anyone but you
Are the stars out tonight?
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright
I only have eyes for you, dear
The moon may be high
But I can't see a thing in the sky
'Cause I only have eyes for you
I don't know if we're in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue
You are here, so am I
Maybe millions of people go by
But they all disappear from view
(John Sebastian)
What a day for a daydream
What a day for a daydreamin' boy
And I'm lost in a daydream
Dreamin' bout my bundle of joy
And even if time ain't really on my side
It's one of those days for takin' a
walk outside
I'm blowin' the day to take a walk
in the sun
And fall on my face on somebody's
new mowed lawn
I've been havin' a sweet dream
I've been dreamin' since I woke up
today
It's starred me and my sweet dream
'Cause she's the one makes me feel
this way
And even if time is passin' me by a lot
I couldn't care less about the dues you
say I got
Tomorrow I'll pay the dues for droppin'
my load
A pie in the face for bein' a sleepy
bull toad
And you can be sure that if you're
feelin' right
A daydream will last a long into
the night
Tomorrow at breakfast you may pick
up your ears
Or you may be daydreamin' for a
thousand years
What a day for a daydream
Custom made for a daydreamin' boy
And I'm lost in a daydream
