Keep in mind that you cannot lean your head against windows (and sleep). #2 Carry an empty plastic bottle and ask the crew to fill it up with water. To land fresh you must drink a lot of water and the small glasses that serve you are not enough and you'll end up pissing the crew off by constantly asking for water. Ideally start hydrating a week before your trip! #3 As you plan your trip, start working out or walking 30 mins a day... in other words, the fitter you are the less of a strain upon arrival. #4 Remember, you are going to have a long line at the Immigration counters with over 450 passengers on this plane. And add to the number of bags that you'll find on the belt, its going to take some time to get out - so if you have connecting flights make sure its at least 3-5 hours in hand to catch that flight. #5 Always ask for special meals. Those meals come first and you will be done before the folks next to you get their food. You wont be jousting elbows over that piece of respective chicken. Plus, the food is piping hot. #6 If its a all day flight, try get a little nap but if its an overnight flight, try getting sleep by popping a pill. Maybe a over the counter sleeping aid. #7 Dont drink beer etc. You are only going to dehydrate yourself. #8 Always take your contact lenses off. If you dont wear lenses, always carry eyedrops..your eyes will get dry on these ultra long distant flights #9 Always carry lip balm/chapstick, extra pair of pants and t-shirt. U saw what happened to me, luckily the seatbelt saved my day or else I would have changed. If I didnt have a change - disaster lol. #10 Sit on any first row of seats in the respective four section of economy. Plenty of legspace and easy to move about. #11 This aircraft has no lounge area in economy, so taking a walk for circulation is tough call. If you really have to stretch then go right in front (where you saw me putting on my shoes). It quiet there too #12 Carry a book, just in case you cant find anything good to watch (which I highly doubt cos there are tons of movies etc). Or, just in case your screen does not work!! #13 DO NOT keep an ink pen in your pocket. It will leak and ruin your shirt/pant (due to the air pressure) #14 Make sure you get your USB cable with you so you can keep your phone charged (peace of mind). #15 No point zipping out your state of the art laptop in economy - you wont have room to really enjoy! #16 Jetlag. Remember, when you fly West - you are going to feel sleepy early and you'll wake up early for a few days upon arrival. Flying East - you will goto bed later and wake up later (which is a problem). That is why, flying east is bad in terms of jetlag because not everyone can sleep in late, so you tend to get tired easy as the day goes by....so try adjust accordingly. #17 When you check in - ask them to put FRAGILE sticker on ur bags. Those bags are loaded at the end (on top) and taken off first. However, with the A380 - there are just too many bags for this strategy to work #18 Dont eat Indian curry etc day before or during the flight. It may give you bad case of gas! That is why you will always see me eat the bland seafood! #19 Wear loose shoes #20 Finally, just enjoy the ride, you wont be doing this everyday! Cheers....and hope this helped. Happy flying!

Qantas Flight 32 was a Qantas scheduled passenger flight which suffered an uncontained engine failure on 4 November 2010 and made an emergency landing at Singapore Changi Airport. The failure was the first of its kind for the Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft. It marked the first aviation occurrence involving an Airbus A380. On inspection it was found that a turbine disc in the aircraft's No.2 Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine (on the port side nearest the fuselage) had disintegrated. The aircraft had also suffered damage to the nacelle, wing, fuel system, landing gear, flight controls, the controls for engine No.1 and an undetected fire in the left inner wing fuel tank that eventually self-extinguished. The aircraft was registered in Australia as VH-OQA, and named Nancy Bird-Walton, Qantas' first A380. The failure occurred over Batam Island, Indonesia, on Flight 32 from London Heathrow Airport to Sydney Airport, four minutes after taking off from Changi for the second leg of the flight. After holding to determine aircraft status, the aircraft returned to Changi nearly two hours after take-off. There were no injuries to the passengers, crew or people on the ground; debris from the accident fell onto the Indonesian island of Batam. At the time of the accident a total of 39 A380s were operating with five airlines; Air France, Emirates, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Qantas. The accident led to the temporary grounding of the rest of the five-plane Qantas A380 fleet. It also led to groundings, inspections and engine replacements on some other Rolls-Royce powered A380s in service with Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, but not in the A380 fleets of Air France or Emirates, which are powered by Engine Alliance engines. The accident, at 10:01 am Singapore Standard Time (02:01 UTC), was caused by an uncontained failure of the port inboard (Number 2) engine, while en route over Batam Island, Indonesia. Shrapnel from the exploding engine punctured part of the wing and damaged the fuel system causing leaks and a fuel tank fire, disabled one hydraulic system and the anti-lock brakes and caused No.1 and No.4 engines to go into a ‘degraded’ mode, damaged landing flaps and the controls for the outer left No.1 engine. The crew, after finding the plane controllable, decided to fly a racetrack holding pattern close to Changi airport while assessing the status of the aircraft. It took 50 minutes to complete this initial assessment. The First Officer (FO) and Supervising Check Captain (SCC) then input the plane's status to the landing distance performance application (LDPA) for a landing 50 tonnes over maximum landing weight at Changi.[10] Based on these inputs the LDPA could not calculate a landing distance. After discussion the crew elected to remove inputs related to a wet runway, in the knowledge that the runway was dry. The LDPA then returned the information that the landing was feasible with 100 metres of runway remaining. The flight then returned to Singapore Changi Airport, landing safely after the crew extended the landing gear by a gravity drop emergency extension system, at 11:45 am Singapore time. As a result of the aircraft landing 35 knots faster than normal, four tyres were blown. Upon landing, the crew were unable to shut down the No.1 engine, which had to be doused by emergency crews 3 hours after landing until flameout. The pilots considered whether to evacuate the plane immediately after landing as fuel was leaking from the left wing onto the brakes, which were extremely hot from maximum braking. The SCC pilot, David Evans, noted in an interview, "We’ve got a situation where there is fuel, hot brakes and an engine that we can’t shut down. And really the safest place was on board the aircraft until such time as things changed. So we had the cabin crew with an alert phase the whole time through ready to evacuate, open doors, inflate slides at any moment. As time went by, that danger abated and, thankfully, we were lucky enough to get everybody off very calmly and very methodically through one set of stairs." The plane was on battery power and had to contend with only one VHF radio to coordinate emergency procedure with the local fire crew. There were no injuries reported among the 440 passengers and 29 crew on board the plane. Debris also fell on a school and houses, causing structural damage, and on a car. The investigation by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau indicated that "fatigue cracking" in a stub pipe within the engine resulted in oil leakage followed by an oil fire in the engine. The fire led to the release of the Intermediate Pressure Turbine (IPT) disc. It also said the issue is specific to the Trent 900. Rolls-Royce determined that the direct cause of the oil fire and resulting engine failure was a misaligned counter bore within a stub oil pipe leading to a fatigue fracture. The ATSB's preliminary investigation report confirmed Rolls-Royce's findings.

It is the world's largest passenger airliner and due to its size, many airports have had to expand their facilities to properly accommodate it. Designed to challenge Boeing's monopoly in the large-aircraft market, the A380 made its maiden flight on 27 April 2005 and entered initial commercial service in October 2007 with Singapore Airlines. The aircraft was known as the Airbus A3XX during much of its development, before receiving the A380 designation.
The A380's upper deck extends along the entire length of the fuselage, with a width equivalent to a wide-body aircraft. This allows for an A380-800's cabin with 478 square metres (5,145.1 sq ft) of floor space; 49% more floor space than the next-largest airliner, the Boeing 747-400 with 321 square metres (3,455.2 sq ft), and provides seating for 525 people in a typical three-class configuration or up to 853 people in all-economy class configurations. The A380-800 has a design range of 15,400 kilometres (8,300 nmi; 9,600 mi), sufficient to fly from New York to Hong Kong, and a cruising speed of Mach 0.85 (about 900 km/h or 560 mph at cruising altitude).
