This summer, the Islamic State invaded the Lebanese border town of Arsal, beheading captured soldiers and unleashing waves of lethal car bombs, destabilizing the country. Hezbollah, one of the world's strongest guerrilla armies, has also become involved — either defending Lebanon, or making things worse, depending on who you ask. English, German & Turkish subtitles now available. People, this video is not anti-Uzbek propoganda. Kyrgyz' & Uzbeks are brother nations. I couldn't get the full version of Karimov's speech. This is what he is speaking of in the end: "Mundaychalik fajiyoga sabap bulgan - Qirg'iz xalqi EMAS, uetta yashoyatgan O'zbek xalqi ham EMAS." On June 16 - Ferghana.ru uploaded the video of a young Kyrgyz "mob" explaining about the Military's involvement in recent Osh clashes. Here is the original link: http://bit.ly/bwzGuQ Please consider very important detail here; Ferghana.ru didn't even mention about the fact that this young boy was a hostage kidnapped by unknown people. The title of the provocative video was - "Раздача оружия бандитам" which means - DISTRIBUTION OF WEAPONS TO GANGS. The description was - "Один из нападавших рассказывает, как ему выдавали оружие" which means - ONE OF THE ATTACKERS TELLS ABOUT HOW HE GOT GUN. I have uploaded the copy of the up to date screenshot image: http://bit.ly/bju6z6 Kyrgyzstan Azattyk reporter, recently, traced this rescued young hostage in a local hospital and took an interview. This video is the evidence of cruel provocation. It looks like, Ferghana.ru just got OWNED! I have also added the video of Islam Karimov commenting about the conflict. "Mundaychalik fojiyoga sabap bulgan - Qirg'iz xalqi EMAS, uetta yashoyatgan O'zbek xalqi ham EMAS" Original link: http://bit.ly/dpvFvY To download original .flv file of the second interview: http://bit.ly/cRA3r3 Great thanks to 1. Beat up Adilet was forced to say what he was told to say under threat on this Youtube video which later was posted by Russian Ferghana.ru news outlet on its Youtube page claiming Adilet is one of the Kyrgyz mob participated in killings of Uzbeks. Adilet was traded on June 14 by Uzbek mob to one of their own. RFERL Kyrgyz branch Azattyk reporter traced Adilet and found him treated at Osh city hospital. "They took me to the Uzbek neighborhood and put a hand grenade in my mouth. Then, they told me to repeat what they were telling me on camera which I did. After that, they were planning to kill me but one of them threw an idea to trade me off. I still can't believe I'm alive." said Adilet to Azattyk. (See report http://www.azattyk.org/content/Kyrgyzstan_Osh_Rights/2076602.html ) As Azattyk reported, more than a dozen of victims (Uzbeks and Kyrgyz) of kidnappings were exchanged between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks with the help of Kyrgyzstan's Police and Military. It is one of the reflections on out of control situation in the Southern Kyrgyzstan with the level of foreign media involvement in the crisis. Here is Ferghana.ru Youtube page in Russian posted on June 16 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my-n9xYlw-o This case brings us to the point where we need to be extremely careful on looking at current crisis in Kyrgyzstan. It is quite known fact, Russian news agencies have been using unreliable sources in the past. It is one of the angles of news reporting from Kyrgyzstan that needs to be addressed by citizens of Kyrgyz Republic and the world media. At the moment when we need the truth and truth only, we have a wide range of information from different directions. As International community and the Interim Government of Kyrgyzstan have reacted to the violence in the affected cities, we urgently need to have an independent investigation to the cause of the erupted crisis. ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------- kyrgyz kirgiz kirghiz kirgis kyrgyzstan kirgisien uzbek ozbek provocation clash osh jalalabat celal abad abat jalal-abat jalal-abad dostuk dostlik tinchtik tinchlik mamleket mamlakat sen men biz islam islom karimov kerimov comment interview hostage captued kidnapped кыргызстан киргизия ош жалал-абад жалалабат джалал-абад киргизстон ислом каримов ислам кыргызы киргизы узбеки озбек провокация доказательство фергана ferghanaru ферганару фергана.ру

RussiaToday: http://www.russiatoday.com/news/news/... February 3, 2009, 20:17 Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev explained the decision with economic considerations and the negative public attitude. Still, Russia and Kyrgyzstan will continue cooperating with the United States on Afghanistan after the closure of the U.S. airbase in the ex-Soviet Central Asian state, the Russian president said on Tuesday. "We could join our efforts to promote regions stability and our countries will help the operations underway in the region. We are ready for coordinated action," said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, adding that the decision to close the Manas base was up to Kyrgyzstan. Manas airport in Bishkek has been home to a thousand-strong American airbase since 2001, the year Kyrgyzstan joined the anti-terror coalition set up after 9/11. The US base used to be the main hub for moving men, equipment and supplies to US and allied forces operating in nearby Afghanistan because of its 90-minute flying time to the war, instead of seven hours from other launching areas. US march towards Asia The September 11 attacks made Central Asia the region of high importance for the US Department of Defense. Straight after these shocking events the United States found Manas base to be useful for Afghan operations. First of all, it is attractive because of its 90-minute flying time to the war, instead of seven hours from other launching areas. The base was named after Chief Peter Ganci Jr. of the New York City Fire Department, who died in the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center carried out by al-Qaida militants. The annual rent paid to the Kyrgyz government was $150 million. In September 2003 three Kyrgyz citizens were convicted for the attempt to organize an attack on the base. On July 8, 2004 the attempt was repeated by the militants that were believed to belong to the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. 2005 Tulip Revolution followed by President Askar Akayev's exile from the country made US Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld visit Bishkek to support the continued US presence at Manas. But new Bakiyev's administration demanded to increase the rent for Pentagon's use of Manas. Due to the December 4, 2001 agreement the price was a little over $2 million a year, and new amount was increased to $100-200 million annually. The sum was clearly drawn out of a hat and after prolonged 12-month negotiations the price was agreed at $17.5 million per year. Back to 2005 US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev signed a joint statement October 11 in Bishkek expressing support for the presence of coalition forces in the Kyrgyz Republic "until the mission of fighting terrorism in Afghanistan is completed." Krygyz Republic "recognizes the important contribution of the international anti-terrorist Coalition, located at the Ganci Airbase, in strengthening regional stability. Kyrgyzstan - U.S.relations chilled after incidents between locals and military personnel occured. In one, a Kyrgyz citizen was shot dead by a US soldier - who escaped prosecution due to immunity enjoyed by US military at the base. Some think that if more soldiers come, there'll be more trouble. I think President Bakiev is concerned that if a conflict starts in Iran, then this base will be used for transporting military personnel, and this may cause social disturbances, says Leonid Gusev, political expert. Around half the Kyrgyz population lives below the poverty line. Political protests flare up sometimes, making the country one of the most politically volatile in Central Asia. Water is the major domestic source of energy for Kyrgyzstan. But the nation doesn't have enough hydro-electric facilities, and the country has to pay market prices for oil and gas from neighbouring Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan, along with China and other members of the Shanghai Co-operation Organization was urging Bishkek to kick the Americans out. Analysts say Russia's view, however, was driven by differing considerations. On the one hand Russia is interested in continuing the operation in Afghanistan, which threatens security in the south. But on the other hand, having the US in Central Asia irritates Moscow, which encourages its Central Asian colleagues to curb this presence, Arkady Dubnov, an international correspondent, says. For the withdrawal of the US forces from the base Kyrgyzstan expects to have its debts (about $180 million) written off by Russia in return. Manas turned out to be a burden for Askar Akayev, the toppled Kyrgyz President.Current President Kurmanbek Bakiyev promised Shanghai Cooperation Organisation members to close the air base; and has now fulfilled his promise. In 2006 Kyrgyzstan pretended to play hardball with its American guests, demanding they pay $50 million more or quit. The Americans did neither.
Russian weapons will arrive in Kyrgyzstan already this year, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and President of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev agreed. Previously, the parties agreed that the Russian military hardware would be delivered to Kyrgyzstan only next year. However, this will happen during the last quarter of the current year. There has been no information released about what kind of deliveries it goes about exactly. Reportedly, Russia will ship small arms, combat vehicles, helicopters, field and stationary hospitals, motorcycles, portable mortars and satellite communications equipment. Apart from this, it was planned to expand the training of Kyrgyz servicemen in Russian military universities. Last November, it was reported that Moscow promised to allocate more than one billion dollars to Bishkek for rearmament purposes within the scope of military support. At present, there is a Russian army base operating on the territory of Kyrgyzstan. It should be noted that reports about the supplies of Russian weapons to the Kyrgyz Republic appeared almost immediately after the decision of Bishkek to close the U.S. Manas transit base. Is it an accidental coincidence? Russia to Start Sending Weapons to Kyrgyzstan This Year Russia's defense minister has said Moscow would begin sending weapons and other military equipment to Kyrgyzstan this year, not in 2014, as previously announced. Supplies as part of a bilateral armed forces assistance program will start in "the fourth quarter of 2013," Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at a meeting with the head of the Central Asian state. Igor Korotchenko, head of the Moscow-based Center for Analysis of Global Arms Trade, previously told that Russia's decision to supply arms to Kyrgyzstan was based in part on a desire to curb the spread of Islamic extremism in the post-Soviet region. He also said arms supplies would most likely include tanks, armored vehicles and personnel carriers, as well as rocket launchers, artillery, small arms, and surveillance and communication systems. In November, Russia's Kommersant newspaper wrote that Moscow had pledged to provide $1.1 billion worth of military assistance to Kyrgyzstan.
July 1996 The old Silk road through Central Asia has become a new narcotics highway. Drug cargoes pass from Afghanistan through Kyrgyzstan's spectacular mountain peaks on their way to Russia and Europe. Despite the best efforts of the UNDCP and the Russian military, the problem gets worse. At a checkpoint 4000 metres above sea level, soldiers search truck engines and petrol tanks. Their trained dogs suffer first from altitude sickness and then addiction. Higher in the mountains, the tracks cannot be policed. Here, destitute villagers haul sacks of opium across the snow to earn money for their families. A young trader in prison for 15 years says quietly, "I feel very bad and I don't think that I will ever get over this mistake." Addiction and drug related crime are also rising rapidly. In Bishkek, an armed police raid exposes a dealer with needle marks up his arm. The local hospital treats a 20 year old addict, pumped full of sedatives. He dreams of "an enormous syringe flying in my head". Report on the devastation drugs can bring to a small, impoverished country. Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Languages like Khakas, Altay, Kyrgyz and Kazakh can be regarded among the most typical Turkic languages, preserving the maximum number of late Proto-Turkic features: http://turkic-languages.scienceontheweb.net/Proto_Bulgaro_Turkic_homeland.jpg http://turkic-languages.scienceontheweb.net/spread_of_turkic_languages_2.jpg The Yenisei Kyrgyz tibes used incinerations thus destroying any buried material artifacts, which is also corroborated by the reports from the Tang Chinese Chronicles (Tang Shu Hezhao) saying that the Kyrgyz tribes burned up their dead and then reburied them under kurgans [Grach, A.D. (1980) (in Russian) According to Radloff, "the Kyrgyz people have used agriculture even more extensively than the Kazakhs [...] They sow wheat, barley and several kinds of millet. They use barley and a special kind of millet as horse food." Proto-Great-Steppe continued to occupy the Kulunda Steppe for a long time and would finally develop into Proto-Kyrgyz-Kazakh-Chagatai in the Tian Shan and Proto-Kimak nomads along the Irtysh, and Proto-Baraba near Lake Chany. It is not really clear when exactly the arrival of Proto-Kyrgyz-Kazakh-Chagatai in the Tian Shan Mountains first occurred — the scanty historical records and considerations by different authors differ significantly on that date. On the other hand, the principle of omnidirectional migration and the archaicness of the modern Kyrgyz language suggest that the earliest Proto-Kyrgyz settlement along the Jeti-Su (Zheti-Su) (the "Seven Waters" area between Lake Balkhash and the Tian Shan) must have been a quite early event, presumably even consistent with the separation of Proto-Central into between Proto-Altay-Sayan and Proto-Great-Steppe circa 200 BCE. This is supported by the fact that Kyrgyz and Altay Turkic presently retain many Proto-Turkic and Proto-Central archaisms and for this reason [as well as because of the secondary migrations during the Dzungarian invasion of the 17th century] were even viewed as related in other classifications. However, from the current perspective, both Kyrgyz and Altay Turkic rather seem to be a sort of refugium areas of an ancient Proto-Central continuum superseded by other tribes in other regions, and their purported relatedness mostly reflects archaic retentions. The position of Proto-Baraba is basically unclear. It has been noted by many researchers that Baraba bears many similarities to Kimak-Kypchak-Tatar, Kyrgyz-Kazakh and even Khakas-Altay. The most likely hypothesis would therefore be that Baraba is a remnant of the early Proto-Central or Proto-Great-Steppe continuum in the interfluvial area between the Ob and Irtysh basins, that was later intermingled with Proto-Kimak-Kypchak-Tatar that moved along the Irtysh after 700 CE. Curiously, one of the lakes in the Depression is named Lake Kyrgyz (Hargas-Nuur or Khirgis-Nur) implying that it was once inhabited by the arrivals from Tuva and Khakassia, usually known as Kyrgyz after about 500 CE. Amanjolov, History of Ancient Türkic Script: Chapter 10: Genesis of Türkic Runic Alpabet, Almaty, Mektep, 2003, p.292) "New epigraphic finds in the territory of Kazakhstan (Irtysh, Ili, Syr-Darya, Yaik) allow to reveal most ancient monuments of written culture of the Türkic-speaking peoples' remote ancestors. On a bone circle with an image of a flying deer from a kurgan of the 5th - 4th centuries BC in the r. Irtysh valley was found and read a most ancient Türkic (proto-Türkic) runic inscription "White Deer". Apparently, this sacral inscription was devoted to a zoomorphic solar deity of the ancient "Scythians" in the Central Asia. This inscription is one of two earliest documentarily confirmed inscriptions in the history of the Türkic runic alphabet. The second proto-Türkic inscription is runic-like inscription on a silver cup from Issyk kurgan of the 5th - 4th centuries BC in the valley of the r. Ili." (A.S. April 2003 The controversial 'Body World' show has offended religious leaders and shocked critics. It has now come to light that many of the bodies displayed did not give their consent. The process of plastination has been hailed as a remarkable new development, aiding medical teaching and informing the public of the intricacies of the human body. However, many consider it to be an immoral and shameless bid for fame and fortune employing age-old shock tactic values. Produced by SBS/Dateline Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Uzbek Massacre (2010): In June 2010 ethnic tensions in Kyrgyzstan overflowed and a conflict ensued which killed hundreds and displaced hundreds of thousands. Now it is emerging that the government may have been behind the attacks. Months after the conflict in June and the Kyrgyz government has yet to respond to calls for an investigation. Kuranda Seyit's report suggests government involvement in attacks on Uzbeks might be why. "although the initial violence was between two groups...the overall violence was much, much, much worse and was perpetrated against Uzbeks. It was clear that it was systematic. It was planned". Seyit brings us footage, smuggled out of Kyrgystan, of the aftermath of attacks on Uzbeks. Kyrgs always claimed the conflict was instigated by Uzbeks, "the Uzbeks started this". However Seyit and Human Rights Watch in their investigations have found evidence that the government may have been at the heart of this ethnic cleansing "there are serious concerns...government forces either actively participated in, or facilitated, attacks on Uzbek neighbourhoods". Kyrgyzstan was once a major trade hub in Central Asia. But weeks after the uprising that led to the ousting of the then president, Kyrgyz business leaders say the country is paying a high price for the revolt, which has been followed by widespread instability. Neighbouring countries have closed their land borders, disabling Kyrgyzstan from exporting anything, and tourists have been warned by numerous governments to stay away from the country. Robin Forestier-Walker reports from Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on how the interim government is struggling to steady the economy. [April 28, 2010]

Kyrgyzstan straddles both Europe and Asia in terms of geographical location, but by May its economy will be doing the same. The country will be joining the Eurasian Economic Union with Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia. While this may boost trade in the region, it may affect its largest investor: China. CCTV's Michal Bardavid filed this report.
The Eurasian Economic Union, the world's newest economic club, is five times larger than the EU, covering 15 percent of the earth's land surface. Members consist of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and soon Kyrgyzstan. But as the economic crisis in Russia grows, some experts have wondered just how close these countries want to get. CCTV America's Owen Fairclough reported this story from Washington, D.C.

http://moneyandtech.com/Aug-4-news-update/ Bitcoin wallet provider Xapo began shipping out its much-anticipated debit cards on Thursday, and immediately began receiving negative backlash from the community, disgruntled with the unexpectedly high accompanying fees and limits. When first announced, Xapo disclosed only a one-time $15 dollar shipping and handling fee. Upon release of the cards, Xapo then updated its fees information to include a monthly $4.95 service fee, plus $1 dollar declined transactions costs, and added fees for domestic and international ATM transactions - which were met with a great degree of frustration from customers who had signed up with the expectation of only the one-time $15 dollar fee. No word has been heard yet on the reason for these additional fees, or what will happen next. But Xapo is expected to publish a blog statement soon addressing these concerns, so we will update you as we know more. Online cryptocurrency platform and wallet MyBigCoin.com announced on Friday plans to go public and seek to file for an IPO, joining a very exclusive club with the few digital currency-centric companies that are publicly held. The company hopes to gain approval for their IPO within the next sixty days, which their consensus statement says ""would help further their operational objectives, while lending further credibility to the company's proprietary digital currency system."" This is a big step forward for the digital currency community, as more and more companies seek to gain legitimacy and respect among consumers, peers, and the more traditional worlds of finance and investment. The Russian Ministry of Finance is reportedly preparing a bill that will officially ban cryptocurrencies, after a draft of the bill was released by major Russian publication Ria Novosti on Friday. According to the report, the new bill will prohibit any money substitutes or ""surrogates"" to the Russian ruble which would “infringe the rights of conscientious people”, and would include digital currencies such as Bitcoin. In addition, the Ria Novosti report revealed that “the Finance Ministry proposes to introduce administrative or criminal responsibility for the production and implementation of monetary surrogates operations with them, and to restrict access to information resources, providing production and operations with surrogates.” If implemented, as suspected, the end of this year or early 2015, this bill could put a serious damper on the digital currency community in Russia, and any progress which could have otherwise had a potentially positive impact on the country’s economic situation. The central bank of Kyrgyzstan has issued new statements reiterating the national law that all use of bitcoin and other digital currencies as a form of payment is currently illegal. The statements specifies that “Under the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic, the sole legal tender on the territory of our country is the national currency of Kyrgyzstan som. The use of ‘virtual currency’, bitcoins, in particular, as a means of payment in the Kyrgyz Republic will be a violation of the law of our state,” then going on to warn of bitcoin's risks, including “the lack of security,” “high risks of exchange rate volatility and loss of value,” and “no guarantee of refund.” The Bitcoin Foundation has filed an amicus brief formally expressing their strong viewpoint in the matter of the Florida state criminal case of LocalBitcoins.com user Pascal Reid, who faces charges of operating an unauthorized money transmission business and money laundering. In their filing, the Foundation requested that Reid's charges as an unauthorized money transmitter be dismissed, given that he was operating as an individual, not as a corporate entity, and a money transmitter is defined as “a corporation, limited liability company, limited liability partnership or foreign entity qualified to do business in the state”. However, the filing was not intended to support the defendant and his actions, but rather to ensure that the broader Florida bitcoin community is not unduly restricted in their ability to transact with the digital currency as a result. As Global Policy Counsel Jim Harper put it, “The case illustrates the need for clarity in bitcoin regulation, both civil and criminal, and that’s a reason why we participated.”

Order nomadic tours online at: http://silkroadexplore.com Kyrgyzstan is an ancient Central Asian country with ties to the Silk Road and nomadic traditions. The traditional foods of the Kyrgyz Republic were born out of the ancient Kyrgyz way of life. The people of Kyrgyzstan were nomads that primarily raised cows, sheep, and goats, so much of the cuisine reflects this by being heavily meat based. Spices aren't used much so as to not detract from the natural flavor of the meat and the most popular meats used to cook with are mutton and beef. Since Islam has influenced the country greatly, meat is prepared in a way that meets the standards of the Islamic faith. This includes killing the animal swiftly and draining the meat of blood. When meat is prepared this way, it is deemed "halal." However, meat isn't the only thing on a Kyrgyz menu. Kyrgyz people are masters when it comes to making homemade breads and pastries. Lipyoshka and borsok are two popular foods in the Kyrgyz Republic. Lipyoska is a circular loaf of bread baked in a large, outdoor clay oven topped with sesame seeds and sometimes onion. No special occasion is needed to indulge in a nice, fresh lipyoshka. Borsok is thinly rolled dough cut into small squares and then fried. They end up puffy and can vary in sweetness depending on the tastes of the cook. People often serve borsok when celebrating holidays. Meat and bread are also accompanied by a variety of organic vegetables, dairy products, and starches. Much of the produce grown inside the country is done so without the aid of chemicals, making Kyrgyz dishes very healthy. Nomadic people also make homemade cream and butter to be served during a meal. Therefore, Kyrgyz chefs and family cooks usually create their menus using organic food, halal meat, a variety of dairy products, and rice, pasta, or potatoes. Food is Kyrgyzstan is not only tasty, but extremely affordable. People looking for a low cost vacation on the Silk Road will appreciate the prices of this Central Asian country along with the variety of flavors it offers.

And 40 percent of that activity is associated with cultural and historic heritage, thanks partly to several European Cultural Routes. But how do you turn culture and history into a thriving business? In September 1944, the Netherlands was the site of Operation Market Garden - the biggest parachute drop in history. Seventy years on and it has become a prominent feature on the Liberation Route - a tourist route that traces the path the allies took to liberate Europe during World War II. Several months ago entrepreneur, Bert Eikelenboom invested 11,000 euros in a 1944 Dodge to ferry visitors on guided tours through the Second World War's battle fields. "For 2014, I expect a turn over about 30 to 40,000 euros," he said. "And when the business develops I will also get a new car, and a new employee with me, to make the tours." To better develop his client base, Bert hooked up with local hotels like Hotel Erica, in front of which is one of the many boulders which line the Liberation Route and act as information mile-stones. Marcel Hoogenboom, who is General Manager of Hotel Erica, explained their usefulness: "For example, this summer three buses stopped, with about 60 people from different generations. And they read the stones and made use of our terraces and our restaurant." The business is not just about turning a profit, but is charged with sentiment. This region in particular was caught in the thick of the fighting during WWII. Marcel Hoogenboom's grandfather was a member of Dutch resistance. "He got betrayed and deported to Dachau concentration camp near Munich. This was my way for filling the promise to my grand mother that his memory would not be forgotten." There are 17 million people employed in tourism in Europe. The sector represents 10 percent of gross domestic product. In the Netherlands several hundred small and medium-sized business derive benefit from being associated with the Liberation Route. The Overloon Museum is the Netherlands war and resistance museum. It is one of the many attractions on the Liberation Route that have resulted in this region attracting around one million visitors a year. Jurriaan J. De Mol, Chairman of Liberation Route Europe, told euronews: "This number of visitors has doubled in the last 10 years. Roughly, the visitors spend between 150 and 250 euros per person per stay." One of the keys to the Liberation Route's success is in attracting a younger public, fired up by well put together museums and exciting exhibits, but also the clever use of new technology. President Vladimir Putin has appeared in public for the first time since 5 March, quelling intense speculation about his health. He was meeting President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, in St Petersburg. Commenting on the rumours about his health, Mr Putin said "things would be boring without gossip", RIA Novosti news agency reported. Earlier, Mr Putin ordered Russia's navy on to a state of full combat readiness in the Arctic. Russia says the navy drills involve 56 warships, planes and 38,000 personnel. Max Hunt is back and he's brought a friend, Swedish professional hunter Ragnhild. They're exploring the wilds of Kyrgyzstan in his pimped-up Land Rover. He's there to meet up with one of the best eagle falconers in the country. Surrounded by mountains and ice they learn how the golden eagle is used for hunting to feed the family and for protecting the sheep. We're also looking at the health of the London Gun Trade as they show off their hardware at the Dorchester Hotel. Then there's a stalking stick test with the So Solid Crew - Tim Pilbeam and Matt Marples. They're seeing just how accurate you can be with two, three and four legs. Kyrgyzstan, or the Kyrgyz Republic to give it its official name, is quite simply one of the most interesting, pristine and beautiful countries in Asia, offering the adventurous traveller a rich and rewarding destination. My name is Jonny Bealby, I founded Wild Frontiers, and in this short film I am going to talk about tourism in Kyrgyzstan. Although small, Kyrgyzstan is perfectly formed. The Tien Shan – or Mountains of Heaven – that stretch across its length and breadth are lush and green, high and wild, dissected by sweeping steppe lands, primal forests, crystal streams, turquoise lakes and lofty snow-capped peaks. I first rode through here on horseback in 1999 while writing a book and making a Discovery Channel film, and I thought then it really was one of the most beautiful countries I had ever visited. The country is primarily a mountainous land rising in altitude from 400 metres in the Ferghana Valley to over 7,400 metre on the summit of Peak Pobeda. More than half of the country is over 3,000 metres high, while a third is permanently covered in snow. But despite the immense natural beauty of this landlocked Central Asian, Silk Road republic, it is the people themselves that bring Kyrgyzstan to life, and on many of our tours to the country you will stay with local families with whom we have developed special friendships. So to the country and the main sites you’ll see. Heading east out of the leafy, tree-lined streets of the capital Bishkek – a place renowned for its markets, monuments and excellent museum – you’ll first pass the imposing 11th century Borana Tower, before skirting the edge of Lake Izzy Kul. Here, in the far northeast of the country, you can spend a couple of days on the lake, visit the interesting town of Karakol or head to Karkara Mountain Camp for a bit of helicopter assisted glacier trekking, available every year on our Celestial Mountain Action Adventure. From here you’ll probably move on around the southern shores of the lake, visiting one of the famous eagle hunters, and possibly trek over the one of the many magnificent passes, before hitting the main road south towards China, and one of the last remaining ancient Silk Road caravanserais at Tash Rabat. Here you can go for walks, or ride one of the local’s horses, all the while staying in one of the traditional yurts while Nazira and her family look after you. People often ask me, where is my favourite place in the world – well, this is right up there; sitting on the hills above the valley is one of the most peaceful settings I know. From here most will either head over the border to China and the famous Silk Road crossroads town of Kashgar or west across the mountains to another jewel in the Kyrgyz crown, Lake Son Kul. A 3,000 metre high glacial lake, some 40 kilometres in length, again it offers a great place to walk or ride among the hills and meet more of the locals. As you head further west so you can cross the sensational Ferghana range and visit the region around the Tajik border – particularly travelling up to Peak Lenin base camp – or head down into the Ferghana Valley and the ancient Silk Road town of Osh. Many of our trips come this way as they head into neighbouring Uzbekistan, but continuing on the circuit back round towards Bishkek and you come to yet another wonderful region of natural beauty, Sary Chelek National Park. At Wild Frontiers we run both small group tours and tailor-made holidays to Kyrgyzstan. While some trips focus solely on this country, others take in Kyrgyzstan on longer journeys through this Silk Road region. It’s also the place that we run one of our best horse riding adventures; loosely following the route I took back in 1999, for those interested in equine holidays, this trip is simply sensational. As you can see, as far as natural mountain beauty is concerned Kyrgyzstan is unrivalled in the region. It is a country with few political issues, a place with good tourist infrastructure and yet relatively few tourist. It’s a place where you can walk, ride, mountain bike, raft or heli-trek – with us, all on a single trip! – and as of 2012 there are no visa requirements for British and many other nationalities. As I say when I rode through the country 15 years ago, I knew I had discovered a gem…and so it is today. Kyrgyzstan really is one of adventure travels best kept secrets.

A Travel Guide to Uzbekistan If Kyrgyzstan is renowned for its natural beauty, so neighbouring Uzbekistan is famous for its spectacular Silk Road architecture. From Samarkand to Khiva the legacy of the Silk Road and the rule of Emperor Timur is evident in the magnificent mosques, madrassas and caravanserais. My names is Jonny Bealby, I run Wild Frontiers, and in this short film I am going to explain about tourism in Uzbekistan. As the world’s only landlocked country, surrounded by landlocked countries, Uzbekistan needs things other than traditional beaches to attract the visitor; and it does, in abundance. From Iran to India Islam has given the world some of the most spectacular architecture there is, and nowhere is this more evident than here in Uzbekistan. The mosques and madrassas of Samarkand are as exquisite as any buildings anywhere on earth. The old walled town of Khiva, a veritable living museum, is an entire town of imposing buildings echoing history, and in Bukhara – probably the most important of all Silk Road towns – the soft, earth-coloured forts, squares, domes and towers are all guaranteed to carry the visitor back to a very different time. The capital of Uzbekistan is Tashkent. Formerly the Soviet Union’s fifth largest city, Tashkent is a surprisingly quiet place, with large leafy parks, cafes and some excellent hotel options. But Tashkent is usually only a start or end point on a journey through Uzbekistan. And if you’re travelling overland from Kyrgyzstan and the Ferghana Valley you’ll likely as not first visit Kokand, a former royal khanate, or kingdom, and home to an impressive palace. But according to Robert Byron, author of The Road to Oxiana, all travellers that venture through Central Asia have one goal in mind, to see the splendours of Samarkand. Centre of the Universe, Mirror of the world, Garden of the soul, Jewel of the east, Pearl of Islam, Samarkand has had writers and poets waxing lyrical for over two millennia. And for god reason. The Registan, a public square used to hear royal proclamations, is surrounded on three sides by magnificent mosques and madrassas. The huge Bibi Khanym mosques was the largest in the world when built at the end of the 14th century. Emperor Timor’s tomb has exquisite carvings and delicate gold inlay. Ulam Beg’s observatory is fascinating and impressive. And the shar-i-zindar, also known as the street of the dead, is another atmospheric site. Moving along the Royal Road, perhaps travelling through Shakrizabs and the birth place of Timur, you’ll come to Bukhara. Personally my favourite town in the country, if not the whole region, Bukhara is a sleepy place, easy to walk around and just brimming over with magnificent sites. Probably the most famous is the 150-foot high Kolan minaret, allegedly used in the 19th century by the then ruler, Nazarullah Khan, as a means of execution, and the adjacent mosques and madrassas. Other sites include the Arc, or impregnable citadel, the char minar mosque and the mosque of 40 pillars. Here in Bukhara there is also great shopping, often in the old caravanserais, where carpets, shawls, spice and trinkets of all types can be found. And finally after another 7 hour drive across the Kyzyl Kum Desert lies Khiva. As one of the most powerful khanates in the 19th century, Khiva grew into a sumptuous walled city much of which has been lovingly restored for the benefit of today’s modern visitor. To watch sunrise over the old town is one of travel’s great experiences. But it’s not all about ancient monuments. Uzbekistan has some beautiful hills and mountains, the quite extraordinary and fascinating Aral Sea and the famous modern art collection at Nukus. The ancient towns through which you’ll pass also have bustling markets, some great open air restaurants, and some of the best boutique hotels anyway in the region. Although you might find more tourists here than you will in some of the neighbouring countries, for anyone interested in culture and history Uzbekistan is simply a must.

http://silkroadexplore.com/ Central Asia Travels: Travelling to Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzstan, also referred to as the Kyrgyz Republic, is a country that is situated in Central Asia. It is landlocked and bordered by four other countries: Kazakhstan to the north, Tajikistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, and China to the east. The capital of Kyrgyzstan is Bishkek, which is located at the northern part of the country. Aside from being the largest and most populated city, you may also notice that many of Bishkek's buildings bear some Soviet influence. The country's official languages are Kyrgyz and Russian. The Kyrgyz ethnic group makes up more than 60% of Kyrgyzstan's population, followed by the Uzbeks, Russians, and Germans. Kyrgyzstan Tourism People who are looking for Central Asia travel places should consider putting Kyrgyzstan on their list of countries to visit. Seeing the nature of Kyrgyzstan is highly recommended as it boasts of mountain ranges, rapid-flowing rivers, highland lakes, forests, deserts, and glaciers. One of the most popular reasons people visit Kyrgyzstan is because of Lake Issyk-Kul and the Tian Shan mountains. Lake Issyk-Kul is actually the tenth biggest lake in the world in terms of volume, measuring 182 kilometers in length, 60 kilometers in width, and it covers an area of more than 6,000 square kilometers. The Tian Shan mountain range, on the other hand, is located across the border between Kyrgyzstan and China. Its highest peak is called the Victory Peaks which stands at approximately 7,400 meters above sea level. Kyrgyzstan Culture The Kyrgyz people have a rich history and cultural traditions. They started out as nomads living in the south-central part of Russia, between Lake Baikal and Yenesei River, approximately 2,000 years ago. Their language, Kyrgyz, is a Turkic language with traces of Mongolian. Many of them also speak Russian, which is the second language of the country. The Kyrgyz also consider the horse as an important part of their culture. They are considered as the "wings of the Kyrgyz", and were believed to carry the spirit of a dead person to another world. They also have national horse games, like Kyrgyz horse wrestling, "Ulak tariysh", "Kyz kuumai", and "Upai". Kyrgyzstan music can be described as "nomadic" and "rural". The main feature of their folk music includes long and sustained pitches, with influences of Russian elements. As for relationships, beautiful Kyrgyz women usually greet each other with hugs and handshakes. Relationships between males and females are also less rigid among Kyrgyzstanis compared to Uzbeks and Tajiks. Household tasks are commonly shared among men and women. The Kyrgyz are very hospitable people, and they usually serve cooked sheep's head to honor their guests. Traditionally, Kyrgyz people live in a "yurt". Today, most of them live in permanent homes in the city. Travel to Kyrgyzstan Those who have gone to Kyrgyzstan certainly recommend going back. Travel in Kyrgyzstan is friendly on the budget, but the flights can get really expensive. Plan out your trip carefully to get the most out of your stay in Kyrgyzstan. Going to Kyrgyzstan also gives travellers a feeling of excitement about discovering the unknown. Other popular places like China, Japan, Australia, Brazil, etc. have already been featured in a lot of travel magazines and even in online travel sites, and Kyrgyzstan is relatively untouched compared to these places. Kyrgyzstan is a country that has many things to offer the adventurous kind of traveller. If you are looking for places to visit in Central Asia, make sure you put Kyrgyzstan at the top of your list.

In rural Kyrgyzstan men still marry their women the old-fashioned way: by abducting them off the street and forcing them to be their wife. Bride kidnapping is a supposedly ancient custom that's made a major comeback since the fall of Communism and now accounts for nearly half of all marriages in some parts. We traveled to the Kyrgyz countryside to follow/aid and abet a young groom named Kubanti as he surprised his teenage girlfriend Nazgul with the gift of marriage/kidnapping. Traveler Ian Wright's journey begins in the smallest of these oasis towns, Khiva. Khiva is a strange time capsule in the middle of the Kara-Kum Desert. The city grew up around one small well and the old inner town with its mud streets and squares has been perfectly preserved as a museum. Ian wanders the streets and attends an Uzbek wedding. Later that evening he takes part in a wrestling contest. Ian drives to Bukhara and swims in the sacred pool in the centre of town called Lyab-i-Haus. He visits a holy Imam at the tomb of Sheikh Bakhautdin just outside Bukhara and joins some old men discussing Islamic and Soviet history. Tashkent is Ian's next destination and he arrives in time for the Independence Day celebrations. From Tashkent he flies to Bishkek, the capital of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan is a mountain paradise surrounded by deserts and populated mostly by nomads who were never quite tamed by the Soviet regime. Ian makes his way into the Tian Shan mountains, where he meets an eagle trainer and watches his eagle hunt a badger. He climbs to a higher plateau where some local villagers have gathered to celebrate the festival for 'Manas', a mythical folk hero. Karakol serves as a base for horse trekking, climbing and skiing expeditions to the Tian Shan mountain range. Impossibly remote, they are seldom visited, with jagged peaks stretching to 7000 meters. From Karakol, Ian hitches a ride in an old Red Army helicopter and goes heli-skiing with them. Ian travels to the remote and stunning Arshane Valley in a bumpy wagon. He goes on a horse trek and meets nomadic shepherds who live in an oval-shaped tent called a 'yurt'. On special occasion they prepare a feast called a beshparmak, where they kill and cook a sheep. They have so few Western visitors that they prepare a feast especially for Ian. Ian has to plait the intestines and cook the sheep's head in the fire. He then shares a meal with the nomads and has to eat the sheep's eye, which is offered only to the honored guest and to refuse is an insult.
