the global market for its economic recovery. We must discourage North Korea from being obsessed with relations, its relations with the United

STORYLINE:
North Korea must give up its nuclear weapons development while the US should guarantee the security of the North, former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs in Seoul, Kim said North Korea was in serious violation of the agreement made between the two Koreas in 1992 not to have any nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula.
The former President and Nobel Peace Prize winner was referring to the nuclear arms control pact that the two Koreas signed.
UN nuclear watchdog, Mohamed ElBaradei also attended the Pugwash conference, which discusses global security.
ElBaradei, who is director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) met with South Korean Unification Minister Chung on Tuesday afternoon.
ElBaradei said he hopes the six-party talks will be resumed soon.

"North Korea's development not only goes against the agreement between the South and the North but also is a huge threat to peace on the Korean
Peninsula. The United States, on the other hand, should guarantee North Korea's security and help open the way for North Korea to advance into
the global market for its economic recovery. We must discourage North Korea from being obsessed with relations, its relations with the United
States and feeling the need to develop weapons of mass destruction such as nuclear weapons".

"It is very important to have Korean peninsula free from nuclear weapons as you have agreed in 1991 and it is unfortunate that it took so long
before we are able to resolve that issue. I would hope again that six party talks would be resumed soon and a comprehensive settlement will be
reached whereby North Korea renounce any nuclear ambitions, accept full international verification and receive also the security assurance they
deserve and open the way for normalisation between North Korea and the international community".

"I think it was wrong that there was undeclared activities. That was a wrong thing. But to make it right, we are cooperating with the international community - part of our effort to make it right. And the South Korean government will fully cooperate with the IAEA to come absolutely clean on this matter".

again, that these were simply tests that will not be continued and everything here is declared under international verification".
