The War in Donbass (also called the War in Ukraine or War in Eastern Ukraine) is an armed conflict in the Donbass region of Ukraine. From the beginning of March 2014, demonstrations by pro-Russian and anti-government groups took place in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine, together commonly called the "Donbass", in the aftermath of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution and the Euromaidan movement. These demonstrations, which followed the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, and which were part of a wider group of concurrent pro-Russian protests across southern and eastern Ukraine, escalated into an armed conflict between the separatist forces of the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR respectively), and the Ukrainian government.[90][91] Prior to a change of the top leadership in August,[92] the separatists were largely led by Russian citizens.[6] Russian paramilitaries are reported to make up from 15% to 80% of the combatants

The survey found that in the eastern and southern Ukrainian oblasts of Kharkiv and Odesa, 87 percent of respondents opposed breaking away from Ukraine. Similarly, most said they don't support or understand the so-called Novorossiya movement, and a majority said they held a negative view of Vladimir Putin. We have heard and read a lot about volunteers providing food, medical supplies, and other essentials for the Ukrainian soldiers at the front. At the same time the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and government officials have claimed that the government is doing its job in supplying the soldiers with everything they need. EMPR has decided to see for ourselves how things stand in regard to how well the soldiers in the battle zone in eastern Ukraine are being taken care of. In our search for the truth and to bring our readers a firsthand account our correspondent spent two days with a volunteer group in the Donetsk oblast. We want to share with our readers the remarkable, unique system the volunteers have worked out to provide aid to the patriots of Ukraine who with their strength of spirit, desire for justice and often with their own lives are defending our land from the Russian invaders. =============================================== Join EMPR at http://empr.media/ & stay with #1 independent citizen media about Ukraine EMPR focuses on developing the capacity of Ukrainian citizens to engage with the international community and disseminate news on actual events in Ukraine as a window into conflict areas in times of crisis, and as a guide in times of reforms EMPR also initiates, contributes and promotes various projects aiming socio-economic growth of Ukraine http://empr.media/about-empr EMPR provides access to Ukrainian information sources for the international press, international readers and the Ukrainian community abroad http://empr.media/news EMPR doesn’t have any sponsor or donor, and is not paid by CIA, FSB, SBU or any other internal Ukrainian state or private organization as well as international ones http://empr.media/fundraising Your donation to support young independent citizen media EMPR is critical for our further development https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted;_button_id=K6S8ZBPWSGHU2 EMPR team expresses deep and sincere gratitude to followers from all over the World, who have been supporting our initiative EMPR available now: EN - http://empr.media/ PL - http://empr.media/pl/ RU - http://empr.media/ru/ FR - http://empr.media/fr/ EMPR appreciates your trust and goes on in searching for the truth 24/7! ============================================== With credits to EMPR =============================================== The present material selected, adapted & published by EMPR #1 independent citizen media about Ukraine | Aid Delivery To Ukrainian Battalions In Donetsk Oblast | | 關於烏克蘭#1獨立的公民媒體 | # 1 los medios ciudadanos independientes sobre Ucrania | # 1 إعلام المواطن مستقلة عن أوكرانيا | # 1 mídia cidadã independentes sobre a Ucrânia | ウクライナ約#1の独立した市民メディア | # 1 unabhängige Bürgermedien über die Ukraine | # 1 médias citoyens indépendants sur l'Ukraine | Ukrayna hakkında # 1 bağımsız vatandaş medyası | # 1 citizen media indipendenti su Ucraina | # 1 niezależne media obywatelskie na temat Ukrainy | # 1 herritarren media independente Ukraina buruz | # 1 незалежных грамадзян СМІ пра Украіну | # 1 nezavisni mediji građana o Ukrajini | # 1 nezávislá občanská média o Ukrajině | # 1 uafhængige borger medier om Ukraine | # 1 onafhankelijke burger media over Oekraïne | # 1 sõltumatu kodanik meediat Ukraina | # 1 itsenäinen kansalainen tiedotusvälineille Ukraina | # 1 დამოუკიდებელი მოქალაქე მედიის შესახებ უკრაინის | # 1 ανεξάρτητων μέσων ενημέρωσης των πολιτών σχετικά με την Ουκρανία | # 1 független civil média Ukrajnáról | 우크라이나에 대한 # 1 독립적 인 시민 미디어 | Citizen # I independens media de Ucraina | # 1 neatkarīgie pilsonis mediji par Ukrainu | # 1 nepriklausomi pilietis žiniasklaida apie Ukrainos | # 1 uavhengige statsborger media om Ukraina | # 1 mass-media independente cetățenilor cu privire la Ucraina | # 1 nezávislá občianska médiá o Ukrajine

Our Ukraine Cruise is a real gem. This once hidden and unknown country is now open to tourists. History dates back over 1000 years and you can see wonderful landmarks in the capital city of Kiev. The Dnieper River offers you an up close and personal view of the culture and people that call the Ukaine home. Read more Information about our Ukraine River Cruise: http://www.rivercruises.net/europe/ukraine/ Welcome to Ukraine, one of Europe's last hidden treasures. Long in the shadow of the Soviet Empire, this lovely country, rich in history, culture and natural beauty, regained its independence in 1991 and opened its doors to the world. From gorgeous Odessa, the gateway to the Black Sea, to Yalta and its world-class beaches, to Zaporozhye, the home of the fearless Cossack warriors, and to cosmopolitan Kiev, with its wide, tree-lined boulevards and a thousand-year-old history, Ukraine is a true treasure chest of natural and man-made attractions waiting to be explored. We are pleased to introduce to you this new and exciting travel destination in the hopes that we may one day share in the pleasure of your company as you discover Ukraine with us. One of the best ways to explore this diverse country is by cruising the magnificent Dnieper River. At 1,420 miles in length, it is the third longest river in Europe, after the Volga and the Danube. The benefits of a river cruise are many. No packing and unpacking, as our floating hotel will take you from one exciting destination to the next. All your meals are included, as are most of your shore excursions. Our on-board staff of guides, cruise directors, and talented entertainers will delight you with their lectures, music, and hospitality. Sit back and enjoy an unforgettable journey from Odessa to Kiev, and all of the unique Ukrainian stops in between. As either a starting or ending point for our cruises, Odessa is sure to delight you. A mild climate and a youthful, vibrant population have drawn the rich and the famous to this Black Sea port for centuries. Its most famous citizen, the French Duke De Richelieu, transformed the city into a thriving center of commerce and culture. Its Opera House, and the Potemkin Stairs, are world-renowned, while its tree-lined promenades and classical buildings painted in pastel hues invoke another era. Life on board our floating hotel will be as exciting as the ports you will be visiting. Our first stop, Sevastopol, is home to the Russian Navy's feared Black Sea Fleet. Closed to foreign visitors until the early 1990s, Sevastopol today is a city of clean and orderly boulevards, neo-classical Russian buildings, and the unique Panorama Museum. As our ship sails from Sevastopol to Yalta, the optional bus excursion across the Crimean peninsula will take you to see the unique cliff-side fortress of Swallow's Nest. The historic Livadia Palace, the location where Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill decided the fate of post-war Europe, will be equally impressive. Stunningly situated between the Crimean mountains and the Black Sea, Yalta has been a major destination for poets, politicians, artists, writers, and the Russian Czar's family. Kherson is the gateway to the Dnieper delta. Here, you will board smaller boats that will take you to an authentic Ukrainian fishing village. A local family will host an al fresco lunch, accompanied with some improvised entertainment. Zaporozhye, a name that conjures up images of fierce, pony-tailed warriors, is also the home of the first independence movements of Ukraine. Here you will enjoy a tour of the city, and a visit to the unique Zaporozhye Cossack museum. The optional Cossack show will feature their horsemanship, weapon skills, and music. Home to Ukraine's favorite son, Taras Shevchenko, Kanev is both his birthplace and burial ground. After a tour of his museum, you will enjoy a special shashlik barbecue. There will be wine, entertainment, and a selection of songs performed by our enthusiastic flower girls. Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, is also recognized as the birthplace of Kievan Rus, or Russia. It came to be in 988, when Prince Vladmir the Great baptized the whole country and introduced Christianity to this part of the world. Today, it's a city of wide boulevards, giant chestnut trees, and a smiling and youthful population. The people are friendly, the city is beautiful. We hope you have enjoyed our short intro to Ukraine. we also hope we will have the pleasure of your company in the nearest future, as we sail along the beautiful Black Sea and the romantic Dnieper River. http://www.TravelBookMix.com This is the summary of Ukraine (Culture Shock! A Survival Guide to Customs & Etiquette) by Meredith Dalton.
Russian paramilitaries are reported to make up from 15% to 80% of the combatants. Starting with the 2014 CRIMEAN CRISIS, soldiers of ambiguous affiliation began to take control of strategic positions and infrastructure within the Ukrainian territory of Crimea, which Russia then annexed. PUTIN initially denied Russian troops interfered but then admitted in April that Russian troops had been active in Crimea and said this had laid the ground for the Crimean status referendum. After the annexation of Crimea, demonstrations by pro-Russian groups in the Donbass area of Ukraine escalated into an armed conflict between the separatist forces of the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics and the Ukrainian government. Between 22 and 25 August, Russian artillery, personnel, and what Russia called a "humanitarian convoy" were reported to have crossed the border into Ukrainian territory without the permission of the Ukrainian government. In August, Russian military vehicles crossed the border in several locations of Donetsk Oblast, massing over 40,000 army units near the Ukrainian border. Russia denied it sent military personnel and equipment leading Western and Ukrainian military officials to term Russia's involvement a 'stealth invasion'. The incursion by the Russian military was seen as responsible for the defeat of Ukrainian forces in early September. In November 2014 the Ukrainian military reported intensive movement of troops and equipment from Russia into the separatist controlled parts of eastern Ukraine. The Associated Press reported 80 unmarked military vehicles on the move in rebel-controlled areas. An OSCE Special Monitoring Mission observed convoys of heavy weapons and tanks in DPR-controlled territory without insignia. According to an independent assessment provided to The Daily Beast, there were as many as 7,000 Russian troops inside Ukraine in early November 2014, with between 40,000 and 50,000 at the country’s eastern border. OSCE monitors further observed vehicles apparently used to transport soldiers' dead bodies crossing the Russian-Ukrainian border on Ukraine on 11 November 2014. Russian soldiers captured in Ukraine, comments made by rebel leaders such as Zakharchenko, and statements from human rights groups indicated that Russian service personnel were fighting in Ukraine. Russia has denied allegations of its involvement in eastern Ukraine. In February 2015, the leading independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported that it obtained documents which showed that Russia's government developed a strategy for invading and breaking up Ukraine even before Viktor Yanukovych was removed from power. The documents outline plans for annexation of Crimea and the southeastern portions of the country, including Donetsk and Luhansk, and also areas in the Kharkiv region, very closely describing the events that actually followed after Yanukovych's fall. The documents also describe plans for a public relations campaign which would seek to justify Russian aggression. Several members of the international community and organizations such as Amnesty International have criticized Russia for its actions in post-revolutionary Ukraine, and condemned Russia, accusing it of breaking international law and violating Ukrainian sovereignty. Many countries implemented economic sanctions against Russia or Russian individuals or companies, to which Russia responded in kind. The Kremlin has tried to systematically intimidate and silence human rights workers who have raised questions about Russian soldiers' deaths in the conflict. Prior to a change of the top leadership in August, the separatists were largely led by Russian citizens. Russian paramilitaries are reported to make up from 15% to 80% of the combatants.

Chernobyl or Chornobyl (IPA /tʃɜrˈnoʊbɨl/; Ukrainian: Чорнобиль, pronounced [tʃɔrˈnɔbɪlʲ]; Russian: Чернобыль, pronounced [tɕɪrˈnobɨlʲ], Polish Czarnobyl, Yiddish: טשערנאבל) is a city in the restricted Chernobyl Exclusion Zone situated in northern Kiev Oblast, Ukraine near the border with Belarus. The city was the administrative center of the Chernobyl Raion (district) from 1923 until it was liquidated in 1988. The city was evacuated in 1986 owing to the Chernobyl disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, located 14.5 kilometres (9.0 mi) north-northwest, the most disastrous single nuclear event in history (followed by the Fukushima Daiichi plant meltdown in 2011). The power plant was within Chernobyl Raion, but the city was not the residence of the power plant workers. When the power plant was under construction, Pripyat, a city larger and closer to the power plant, had been built as home for the power plant workers. After the accident the Chernobyl Raion administration was transferred to the neighboring Ivankiv Raion. Though the city today is mostly a ghost town, a small number of people reside in houses marked with signs stating that the "Owner of this house lives here".[1] Workers on watch and administrative personnel of the Zone of Alienation are stationed in the city on a long-term basis. Before its evacuation, the city had about 14,000 residents.[2] The city of Slavutych was built specifically for the evacuated population of Chernobyl. This video is for educational purposes only. You'll love our website: Keywords: TDC TheDailyConversation The Daily Conversation 2014–15 Russian military intervention in Ukraine In late February 2014, Russia began to send troops and military equipment into Ukraine (beginning with the appearance of "little green men") in what has been termed a stealth invasion, following the February 2014 Ukrainian revolution and Euromaidan movement, including the contentious ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych. Starting with the 2014 Crimean crisis, soldiers of ambiguous affiliation began to take control of strategic positions and infrastructure within the Ukrainian territory of Crimea, which Russia then annexed.Russian journalists often used the phrase "polite men". Describing them as Russian troops in the Russian media was not done, and dangerous. London-based military experts and the US State Department said the soldiers were likely Russian special forces (possibly including Spetsnaz commandos) and airborne units. Putin initially dismissed awkward questions about the presence of Russian troops but then admitted in April that Russian troops had been active in Crimea and said this had laid the ground for the Crimean status referendum. After the annexation of Crimea, demonstrations by pro-Russian and anti-government groups, which were taking place in the Donbass area of Ukraine since early March, escalated by mid-April into an armed conflict between the separatist forces of the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR respectively) and the Ukrainian government. As this armed insurgency spread across the Donbass, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down over the conflict zone on 17 July near Torez in Donetsk Oblast. Evidence from open sources indicated that separatists in Ukraine were in control of a Russian-supplied Buk missile launcher on 17 July and transported it from Donetsk to Snizhne. In August, Russian military vehicles have openly crossed the border in several locations of Donetsk Oblast (including Mariupol), massing over 40,000 army units near the Ukrainian border. Russia denied allegations of its involvement in eastern Ukraine whilst Russian soldiers captured in Ukraine, comments made by rebel leaders such as Zakharchenko, and statements such as that of the head of the Russian Union of Committees of Soldiers' Mothers, Valentina Melnikova indicated that Russian service personnel were fighting in Ukraine. In August Russia sent dozens of white lorries, green army trucks painted white, into eastern Ukraine, without inspection by Ukraine. The trucks were “almost empty” the BBC’s Steve Rosenberg reported, and the action has been characterized as one of diversion, a distraction, so that at other points equipment and personnel came into Ukraine. Malaysia Airlines flight 17 (MH17) was a scheduled international flight between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur that crashed 17 July 2014 in the Donetsk region in the east of Ukraine . No survivors are found among the 283 passengers and 15 crew members of the Boeing 777-200ER . The Ukrainian army and pro-Russian separatist , while opposed in the war of Donbass , accuse each other of having shot the device . This is the second disaster of 2014 for the Malaysian company , less than five months after the disappearance of flight 370 carrying 239 people on board. The plane takes off from the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on 17 July 2014 at 12 h 14 local (10 h 14 UTC ). His arrival is the day for 6 h 9 local (22 h 9 UTC on the day) at the international airport in Kuala Lumpur . The route of flight MH17 July 17 differs from those taken in previous days that were designed to avoid overflying conflict areas : the plane via an air corridor farther north than that used in previous days, and for some reason the investigation has not yet been explained, is driven to fly over the area where the fighters clash People's Republic of Donetsk and the army of Ukraine . The company Malaysia Airlines , charterer principal of the flight, said in a statement posted on the social networks have lost contact at 16 h 15 local time Ukraine (13 h 15 UTC ) while the plane was flying over the East Ukraine, approximately 50 kilometers from the border with Russia "Romeo November Delta, Malaysian one seven" (that is to say:. received air control Rostov-na-Donou , the Malaysia Airlines flight 17) was the last communication device with air traffic controllers at 1:19 p.m. ET 56 seconds GMT . Flightradar24 reports that a Boeing 777 belonging to the company Singapore Airlines and Boeing 787 of Air India were only 25 kilometers from where the plane had disappeared from Ukrainian radars . Map of the plane ride. The plane s' crashed near the town of Hrabové (east of the Donetsk region ), near the border between the two secessionist oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk , near the city of Shakhtarsk . Photographs of the accident site show the scattered pieces of fuselage and pieces of broken engines and dozens of charred bodies and passports , . Part of the wreckage was found near the houses in the village of Hrabové . Body fell into dozens of fields, some on rooftops . The ruins are spread over an area of more than 10 kilometers around the town Hrabové . The fact that the debris are scattered on such a surface, suggesting that the plane broke apart at high altitude . The MH17 flight was provided by a Boeing 777-200ER (specifically referred to as an 777-2H6 / ER ), an airliner registered tractor 9M-MRD with serial number 28411/84 . The device performs its first flight on 17 July 1997 and comes with Malaysia Airlines on 29 July 1997 . The aircraft is powered by two reactors Rolls-Royce Trent 892 and has accumulated more than 43,000 flight hours in 6950 cycles , .
Ukraine (Listeni/juːˈkreɪn/ yew-krayn; Ukrainian: Україна, transliterated: Ukrayina, [ukrɑˈjinɑ]) is a country in Eastern Europe. Ukraine borders the Russian Federation to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, Romania and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast, respectively. It has an area of 603,628 km2 (233,062 sq mi), making it the largest country entirely within Europe. According to a popular and well established theory, the medieval state of Kievan Rus was established by the Varangians in the 9th century as the first historically recorded East Slavic state. It emerged as a powerful nation in the Middle Ages but disintegrated in the 12th century. By the middle of the 14th century, present Ukrainian territories were under the rule of three external powers: the Golden Horde, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and the Kingdom of Poland, during the 15th century these lands came under the rule Crown of the Kingdom of Poland, Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth (since 1569), and Crimean Khanate. After After the Partitions of Poland (1772--1795) and conquest of Crimean Khanate, Ukraine was divided between Russia and Austria, thus the largest part of Ukraine was integrated into the Russian Empire, with the rest under Austrian (known as Austro-Hungarian since 1849) control. A chaotic period of incessant warfare ensued, with internationally recognized establishment of independent Ukrainian People's Republic. Independent Ukraine emerged from its own civil war. Then Soviet aggression and the Ukrainian--Soviet War followed, which resulted in Soviet victory. Ukrainian People's Republic was occupied and a puppet state called Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was created. On December 30, 1922 it became one of the founding republics of the Soviet Union. The Soviet government was hostile to Ukrainian language and Ukrainian culture; there were mass repressions of Ukrainian poets, historians and linguists. Then there was a genocide of Ukrainians: millions of people starved to death in 1932 and 1933 in the Holodomor. After the 1939 invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany and Soviet Union, the Ukrainian SSR's territory was enlarged westward. During World War II the Ukrainian Insurgent Army tried to reestablish Ukrainian independence and fought against both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. But in 1941 Ukraine was occupied by Nazi Germany, being liberated in 1944. In 1945, the Ukrainian SSR became one of the founding members of the United Nations. In 1954 it expanded to the south with the transfer of the Crimean Peninsula. Ukraine became independent again when the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991. This dissolution started a period of transition to a market economy, in which Ukraine suffered an eight-year recession. Since then, however, the economy has experienced a high increase in GDP growth. Ukraine was caught up in the worldwide economic crisis in 2008 and the economy plunged. GDP fell 20% from spring 2008 to spring 2009, then leveled off as analysts compared the magnitude of the downturn to the worst years of economic depression during the early 1990s. Throughout its history, Ukraine has been one of the powerhouses of world agriculture due to its fertile conditions. The country, as of 2011, was the world's third-largest grain exporter[15] and is one of ten most attractive agricultural land acquisition regions.[16] Ukraine is a unitary state composed of 24 oblasts (provinces), one autonomous republic (Crimea), and two cities with special status: Kiev, its capital and largest city, and Sevastopol, which houses the Russian Black Sea Fleet under a leasing agreement. Ukraine is a republic under a semi-presidential system with separate legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Ukraine continues to maintain the second-largest military in Europe, after that of Russia. The country is home to 46 million people, 77.8 percent of whom are ethnic Ukrainians, with sizable minorities of Russians (17%), Belarusians and Romanians. Ukrainian is the official language of Ukraine. Russian is also widely spoken. The dominant religion in the country is Eastern Orthodox Christianity, which has strongly influenced Ukrainian architecture, literature and music.

War in Ukraine 20.03.2015 / 19.03.2015 The War in Donbass (also called the War in Ukraine or War in Eastern Ukraine) is an armed conflict in the Donbass region of Ukraine. These demonstrations, which followed the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, and which were part of a wider group of concurrent pro-Russian protests across southern and eastern Ukraine, escalated into an armed conflict between the separatist forces of the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR respectively), and the Ukrainian government.[94][95] Prior to a change of the top leadership in August,[96] the separatists were largely led by Russian citizens.[6] Russian paramilitaries are reported to make up from 15% to 80% of the combatants.

These demonstrations, which followed the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, and which were part of a wider group of concurrent pro-Russian protests across southern and eastern Ukraine, escalated into an armed conflict between the separatist forces of the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR respectively), and the Ukrainian government.[94][95] Prior to a change of the top leadership in August,[96] the separatists were largely led by Russian citizens.[6] Russian paramilitaries are reported to make up from 15% to 80% of the combatants.

noodls 2015-04-17Ukraine (i/juːˈkreɪn/ yew-KRAYN; Ukrainian: Україна, transliterated: Ukrayina, [ukrɑˈjinɑ]; Russian: Украина; Crimean Tatar: Ukraina) is a country in Central and Eastern Europe. Ukraine borders the Russian Federation to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, Romania and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast, respectively. It has an area of 603,628 km², making it the second largest contiguous country on the European continent, after the Russian Federation.
According to a popular and well established theory, the medieval state of Kievan Rus was established by the Varangians in the 9th century as the first historically recorded East Slavic state which emerged as a powerful nation in the Middle Ages until it disintegrated in the 12th century. By the middle of the 14th century, Ukrainian territories were under the rule of three external powers—the Golden Horde, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and the Kingdom of Poland. After the Great Northern War (1700–1721) Ukraine was divided between a number of regional powers and, by the 19th century, the largest part of Ukraine was integrated into the Russian Empire with the rest under Austro-Hungarian control. A chaotic period of incessant warfare ensued, with several internationally recognized attempts at independence from 1917 to 1921, following World War I and the Russian Civil War. Ukraine emerged from its own civil war, and on December 30, 1922 Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic became one of the founding republics of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian SSR's territory was enlarged westward during the civil war shortly before, and after World War II, and further south in 1954 with the Crimea transfer. In 1945, the Ukrainian SSR became one of the founding members of the United Nations.
