GA Dept of KKKorrections new Tier program has taken steps to destroy a prisoner's family bonds, now stopping prisoners from receiving any pictures or letters with pictures in them. GA Dept of KKKorrections administrators have enacted a policy that clearly violates a prisoner's 1st Amendment right to freedom of association and their right to freedom of speech. The 1st Amendment exists to protect the citizens' right to read books, magazines, newspapers, etc. The right to call or write to your family and friends, the right to criticize government or state officials, and much more.

Thoughts from a Reidsville prison hunger striker

Inmates in Georgia State Prison in Reidsville have been hunger striking for over a month in protest of the abuses they are suffering in the Tier Program. The program, described in this document http://167.192.44.227/Research/Fact_Sheets/Info_Sheets_TierSegregationSy... , is supposed to be for people who are a threat to safety, but is really used as a punishment for people who speak our for their rights. Reidsville Tier II prisoner speaks out against inhumane conditions

Another prisoner has come forward to speak out against the abusive conditions in Georgia State Prison in Reidsville. At least four men in the prison have been on hunger strike since February 26 in protest of the conditions in the Tier Program. Here is the content of his letter, unchanged:

I have been corresponding for a few years with several prisoners who took part in the 2012 hunger strike in Jackson State prison, including the author of this piece. He and three others are now on a hunger strike in Reidsville since February 26. Woman Arrested for "Contempt of Cop" While Feeding Homeless

Caroline Croland was arrested while volunteering with Atlanta Food Not Bombs, a group which serves food to homeless people. Her supposed crime was questioning why the cops were harassing Food Not Bombs.

APD Officer S. Camille was harrassing and detaining another volunteer, and seemed to be targetting the group. Angered by this, Caroline shouted at the officer "Why can't we share a meal every sunday without state harassment? Why? Answer me!"

Officer Camille then illegally arrested Caroline for "disorderly conduct". Questioning or criticizing the police is protected by the first amendment. Cops don't have the right to arrest someone just because they feel disrespected. Caroline is suing the Atlanta Police Department and filing complaints against the officer involved.

I have been correspondng with several prisoners in Georgia prisons since the 2012 prisoner hunger strike in Jackson. They have repeatedly tried to get redress for their grievances about mistreatment, and when those attempts have failed they have been forced to resort to hunger strike. Here is a letter from one prisoner who has been refusing food since February 23. It is all in his own words.

On Monday, 9 March 2015, Dekalb County police responded to a call about a reportedly “deranged” naked man crawling around, knocking on doors. The man, Anthony Hill — who was clearly unarmed — was shot to death by a Dekalb police officer. Hill is the latest in a long line of unarmed black men killed by police. He also reportedly suffered from bipolar disorder, following another troubling pattern of police killing those with mental illness.

In the spirit of renewed conflict in St. Louis and Ferguson, MO, following the police murder of 18 year old Vonderitt “Drew” Myers, we are posting a very brief round up of events which transpired in solidarity with the first wave of rioting in Ferguson in response to the killing of Mike Brown. In the event of no indictment for Darren Wilson, who killed Mike Brown, we hope to see disorder spread to every square inch of this country. In that spirit, we'd like to catalogue what has transpired so far.
