Bush) on previous channels; but this is the first upload of all of what I have of the final night of the 1992 Republican National Convention at the Houston Astrodome. The video picks up with NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw and commentator John Chancellor finishing their discussion of the speech by Vice President Dan Quayle before the first commercial break. After a sponsor billboard for Ford; our first break includes ads for Ford Probe; Color Tile (Storewide Summer Clearance winding down that Monday) and AT&T; we return to the Astrodome where Tom mentions the lead by Democratic nominee Bill Clinton narrowing (no Ross Perot at this point). Then (following a brief clip of then-President George H.W. Bush walking in with Jeb Bush); Tom tosses to Meet the Press moderator Tim Russert -- who mentions the need for the President to focus more on domestic issues (something generally considered Bush's Achilles heel) and mentions some of the talking points. Then comes the Maria Shriver interview with Texas Rangers co-owner and future Texas Governor (and ultimately future President) George W. Bush. Brokaw then mentions the younger Bush's time in the National Guard during Vietnam and his role as his father's top adviser and something of a troubleshooter (using as an example the ouster of White House Chief of Staff John Sununu early that year). Commercials in this next break include Ford Explorer; a repeat of the Color Tile spot; Carnation Instant Breakfast; a promo for a special live edition of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno (roughly 3 months into his time as Johnny Carson's heir); a WAVY spot for Designing Women (Meshach Taylor proves real men love Designing Women) and a tease for the weather update with WAVY meteorologist Don Slater. Back in Houston; Brokaw reviews the recent Presidential elections (all GOP blowouts; all running as unabashed conservatives {today's GOP; take note}) before focusing on the Midwest that had been badly beaten up by the early 1990s recession. We then go to NBC reporter Lisa Myers; who would interview Bush campaign pollster Bob Teeter and Andrea Mitchell (interviewing Michigan Governor John Engler; the footage ends just as Andrea gets a last minute suggestion by Tom to ask Engler about the NAFTA proposal).
