Electronic music producer and composer Dan Deacon is one of the ringleaders of the burgeoning Baltimore art scene, serving as the musical director for a progressive group of fellow artists and filmmakers. But he's also made a name for himself as a dynamic live performer – he spent the past year opening for Arcade Fire on their North American arena tour -- successfully breaking the boundaries between the artist and an often-jaded audience. Cleverly mixing high-minded concepts with low-brow pop sensibilities, Deacon has carved a niche for himself as one of the more unique performers around. Watch / Listen to the full session here:

Ben Howard earned critical praise early on for his compelling live shows in and around London and his native Devonshire. The ever-growing word of mouth goodwill caught the attention of Island Records, which won over Howard due to the legacy there forged by a couple of his musical heroes - John Martyn and Nick Drake. His debut release, Every Kingdom, has achieved gold status in the UK and is gaining ground in the US, as evidenced by his back-to-back sold out shows this week at the Troubadour, his first appearances ever on the West Coast. Ben's appearance on KCRW marks his LA radio performance debut. Watch / Listen to the full session here: http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/gz/gz120609ben_howard

Sometime years from now I may be asked: What was your favorite day at NPR? I am likely to say it's the day Dan Deacon got the NPR staff worked up into a giant dance party! It's also the day Deacon and staff wheeled in an upright piano and connected it to his computer — a magical mix of old player piano and electronic avant-garde. Yes, Deacon makes electronic music and dance music, but it's not the thump thump thump stuff you'd go to a club for. It's a mix of Brian Eno, Philip Glass and your kids' birthday party (if you were the cool parents your kids wished they had). Dan came toting songs and that piano from his new record (which is quickly becoming my favorite of his), Gliss Riffer. The party really kicked into gear with the second song. And by the end you'll find me and my All Songs Considered co-host doing wild dance moves with 100 people. There'd never been a day at NPR quite like this! Set List "Feel the Lightning" 1:46 "Sheathed Wings" 9:00 "Learning to Relax" 16:32 Credits Producers: Bob Boilen, Maggie Starbard; Audio Engineer: Al Schatz; Videographers: Colin Marshall, Morgan McCloy, Nick Michael, Maggie Starbard; Assistant Producer: Michaela Gugliotta; photo by Colin Marshall/NPR

Hear the entire session and interview: http://soundcheck.wnyc.org/story/dan-deacon-in-studio/ Since his 2007 breakthrough album, Spiderman Of The Rings, Dan Deacon has assumed numerous roles. He’s a staple of Baltimore's Wham City art collective -- and a classically-trained composer and film scorer. On stage, he’s a mad scientist tinkering with colorful electronics -- and a ringleader encouraging his wild fans in absurdist dance-offs. Likewise, his music delivers both exquisite bliss and full-on beat-heavy cacophony. But no matter the setting, Deacon's unfettered sense of humor and his masterful ear for sonic textures unify his various music sides in endlessly exciting ways. Now, after several records written for larger ensembles, Deacon has gone solo once again with his latest, Gliss Riffer. In some ways, it's a return to what he’s best known for: exuberant and densely-stuffed electronic dance music. And while singing has always played some part Deacon's songs, Gliss Riffer showcases his voice more fully. You can hear that immediately in the lead single, "Feel The Lightning," and in "Learning To Relax" -- where Deacon changes the pitch or timbre of his voice to sometimes sound female -- like a duet with himself. It's a big pop-infused sound that will easily get fans flailing with awkward abandon on the dance floor. Watch Dan Deacon perform "Feel The Lightning" in the Soundcheck studio. Join us for a interview with Dan Decon. This Baltimore-based musician and composer hooks listeners with strong melodic lines, immersed in a sea of competing rhythmic structures, distorted sound samples, and synthesized and acoustic textures. Dan was with us at the Exploratorium on December 12, 2014, for this conversation with Resonance curator Wayne Grim, and a fantastic music performance. To see more videos from our Resonance series, go to: exploratorium.edu/resonance
Dan Deacon is back in Australia, showcasing his new album, Gliss Riffer, at festivals across the country including the Sydney Festival, Tasmania’s MONA FOMA and today’s Sugar Mountain Festival. He spoke to Music Feeds about his artistic process, and how moving out from the mainstream can lead to inspiration. “It’s been a while since I produced and engineered a record, so it was a big mental shift to go back to composing and then knowing that I would be the one finalising the sounds,” explains Deacon on his decision to self-produce his latest record. Deacon also talked us through all the equipment he experimented with on Gliss Riffer and the process of creating those layered sounds. “It’s like cooking. I want it to have as complex of a flavour as possible but the flavours need to compliment each other and you need to be able to hear them at different stages.” Speaking about his influences, Deacon explains that it was breaking out and listening to things outside mainstream pop culture that first sparked his interest in exploring and creating music. “You grow up and you hear music on the radio and you know you like music but you know there’s something else out there. You have no idea what it is. Imaging living in a world of black and white and then a little bit of dark green emerges and you’re like, ‘Oh there’s more’,” he explains. “People who only listen to what’s on the radio or television are only getting a greyscale version of what’s happening.” Dan Deacon plays as part of Melbourne’s Sugar Mountain festival today and The Brightside’s Australia Day eve party on Sunday 25th January.

noodls 2015-03-24Dan Deacon (born August 28, 1981) is an American composer and electronic musician based out of Baltimore, Maryland. Since 2003, Deacon has released eight albums under several different labels. Deacon also has a renowned reputation for his live shows, where large scale audience participation and interaction is often a major element of the performance.
Dan was born and raised in the suburban Long Island, New York community of West Babylon. He graduated from Babylon High School in 1999 where he was a member of the local ska band Channel 59. He later attended the Conservatory of Music at State University of New York at Purchase in Purchase, New York where, in addition to performing his solo material, he played in many bands, including tuba for Langhorne Slim and guitar in the improvisational grindcore band Rated R, and had a small mixed chamber ensemble. He completed his graduate studies in electro-acoustic and computer music composition. He studied under composer and conductor Joel Thome and Dary John Mizelle.
Damien Rice (born 7 December 1973) is an Irish singer-songwriter, musician and record producer who plays guitar, piano, clarinet and percussion.
Rice was raised in Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland and began his musical career as a member of the 1990s rock group Juniper. After leaving the band he worked as a farmer in Tuscany and busked throughout Europe before returning to Ireland in 2001 and beginning a solo musical career.
In 2002 his debut album O reached #8 on the UK albums chart, won the Shortlist music prize and generated three top-30 singles in the UK. Rice released his second album 9 in 2006 and his songs have appeared in numerous films and television episodes.
Rice's personal activities include musical contributions to charitable projects such as the Songs for Tibet, Freedom Campaign and the Enough Project.
Rice was born to George and Maureen Rice and raised in Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.
Rice began his music career using the stage name "Dodima" Rice[citation needed] and formed the rock band Juniper along with Paul Noonan, Dominic Philips, David Geraghty and Brian Crosby in 1991. The band met whilst they were attending Salesian College secondary school in Celbridge, Co. Kildare as students. After touring throughout Ireland the band released their debut EP Manna in 1995.
Based in Straffan, Kildare the band continued touring and signed a six album record deal with Polygram. Their recording projects generated the singles “Weatherman” and “Single of the Fortnight” which received favorable reviews.
Paolo Giovanni Nutini (born 9 January 1987) is a Scottish singer, songwriter and musician from Paisley.
Paolo Nutini's debut album, These Streets, was released by Atlantic Records in the United Kingdom in July 2006 and included the singles "Last Request", "Jenny Don't Be Hasty", "Rewind" and "New Shoes". "Last Request", the most successful, reached number five on the UK Singles Chart. The album peaked at number three on the UK Album Chart and was certified 4× platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). It has been in the album charts for a record-breaking 196 weeks.
In May 2009 Nutini released his second album, Sunny Side Up, which debuted at number one in the UK and has produced four singles; "Candy", "Coming Up Easy", "Pencil Full of Lead" and "10/10". It has so far been certified 4x platinum by the BPI. On 19 February 2010, it scooped "Best International Album" at the 2010 Meteor Awards.
Nutini's father is of Italian descent, from Barga, Tuscany, although both his parents are third-generation Scottish.

Pero esa bruta disputa de razas sin nacer.
Gente; sin mente,
Espacio, latente,
Visiones; castigos,
Canciones; paganas.
Viejos linajes de clases te quieren absorber,
// Si el color de tu corazón,
Se ennegrece sin razón,
Y el color de esta canción,
Te levanta y da noción //
Si no vuelves a partir,
Puedo estar en tu jardín??,
Para asi poder crecer,
Y llegar a enloquecer.
No dejes que el miedo te coma,
No dejes que el miedo te coma,
No dejes de dar un paso un mas.
En la calle se oye una voz,
Perdida inocencia al estar junto a ti,
Ellos me gritan, déjala en paz,
Yo les sonrío, en un tiempo mas.
Para asi poder reir,
Y poder llegar a al fin,
Una sola indicación,
No vengas en luna-sol.
luna-sol luna-sol luna-sol luna-sol
luna-sol luna-sol luna-sol luna-sol
luna-sol luna-sol luna-sol luna-sol
Sólo yo,
Sin el sol,
Despertando,
Sin razón,
Una bruma matinal,
Enceguece mi final.
Quítame los ojos,
Llévate mi lengua,
Rasga mis oídos,
Y traga mi corazón.
Sólo el alma queda,
Nada importa más,
Me deshago entre los ruidos,
Salir a pasear,
Sin destino original,
Quemando aceras sin parar,
Para llegar a algún lugar.
Lluvias, vientos, nubes, sol,
5to patio, desolación,
un martíni por favor,
larga espera en la estación.
// Los tiempos van mas lento,
El frío embriaga la ciudad,
Encerrado en el vagón,
Para estar mucho mejor.//
Lluvias, vientos, nubes, sol,
5to patio, desolación,
12 días de terror,
y aun no encuentro el perdón.
// Los tiempos... //
