Welcome
Since it was first published in 1817, The Scotsman has been at the heart of the debate about issues that really matter. Almost 200 years later, it is still the national forum for discussion on the topics of the moment, and is right at the heart of the debate on Scotland's constitutional future.
The newspaper - and its successful website - www.scotsman.com - offer an authoritative space for all shades of opinion to have their say on the challenges and opportunities facing Scotland. Now Scotsman Conferences is bringing the debate alive with high-quality, modern conferences for a modern world.
We continue to deliver a programme of informative and lively debates featuring expert speakers, with a focus on big issues which affect both the public and private sector - most held at our superb venue, The Scottish National Gallery.
Speakers at Scotsman Conferences events over the last few years have included leading politicians (Alistair Darling, Nicola Sturgeon, Ed Davey, John Swinney and many more) and leading figures from business such as Katherine Garrett-Cox (Alliance Trust), Rupert Soames (Aggreko), Jim McColl (Clyde Blowers), Dave Tudor (GlaxoSmithKline) and Robin Barr & Roger White (AG Barr)
Respected academics have come from across the UK to participate in our events, including Prof John Kay (London School of Economics), Prof Hew Strachan (Oxford University) alongside Scottish-based experts Profs David Bell, John Curtice and William Walker.
Our events are chaired by experts, too - Peter Jones, Sheena McDonald, Bill Jamieson and Stephen Jardine - while many large business organisations have supported our events. Without exception, they have been delighted by the results. They include : Bank of Scotland, Alliance Trust, Pinsent Masons, Brodies, Investec, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership, Spirit Aerosystems, HBJ Gateley, and many more.
Scotsman Conference Format
Unlike traditional conferences, our events run for half a day - because delegates can no longer afford the luxury of a full day away from their desk. They need to keep up-to-date with policy developments and build professional networks, so our sharply-focussed events allow delegates to do both without eating into valuable working time.
Our agendas may be shorter but thanks to The Scotsman’s unrivalled access to a national and UK network of experts, each event attracts the best possible speakers and we build in time for discussion and networking.
The delegate fee is affordable and offers excellent value for money.
Each event is supported by editorial opportunities in The Scotsman as well as online, widening the scope of the debate and offering speakers a national platform.
