January Kristen Jones (born January 5, 1978) is an American actress. She is best known for playing Betty Draper-Francis on Mad Men.
Jones was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Karen, who manages a sporting goods store, and Marvin Jones, a coach, gym teacher, and fitness director. She is named after January Wayne, a character in Jacqueline Susann's Once Is Not Enough. She has two sisters – Jacey and Jina.
Jones has had supporting roles in Anger Management (2003), Love Actually, and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. In 2005, she appeared as a U.S. border guard's frustrated wife in the film The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada directed by and starring Tommy Lee Jones. In We Are Marshall (2006), she played the role of Carol Dawson, wife of football coach William "Red" Dawson.
She had the lead female role in the movie Love's Enduring Promise as a pioneer family's oldest child. Her character falls in love with a mysterious man who saves her father's life. She currently appears in the AMC original television drama series Mad Men as young suburban housewife and mother Betty Draper Francis. She is also known for her role as Cadence Flaherty in the 2003 comedy American Wedding, the third installment of the American Pie film series.
Grace Patricia Kelly (November 12, 1929 – September 14, 1982) was an American actress who, in April 1956, married Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, to become Princess consort of Monaco, styled as Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco, and commonly referred to as Princess Grace.
After embarking on an acting career in 1950, at the age of 20, Grace Kelly appeared in New York City theatrical productions as well as in more than forty episodes of live drama productions broadcast during the early 1950s Golden Age of Television. In October 1953, with the release of Mogambo, she became a movie star, a status confirmed in 1954 with a Golden Globe Award and Academy Award nomination as well as leading roles in five films, including The Country Girl, in which she gave a deglamorized, Academy Award-winning performance. She retired from acting at 26 to enter upon her duties in Monaco. She and Prince Rainier had three children: Caroline, Albert, and Stéphanie. She also retained her American roots, maintaining dual US and Monégasque citizenships.
Matthew Weiner (pronounced /,winer/; born 29 June 1965) is an American writer, director and producer of television drama. He is the creator, executive producer, head writer, and show runner of the AMC television series Mad Men. He is also noted for his work on the HBO series The Sopranos, on which he served as a writer and producer during the show's fifth and sixth seasons. Weiner has received nine Emmy Awards for his work on Mad Men and The Sopranos as well as three Golden Globe Awards for Mad Men.Mad Men has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series four consecutive years (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011); the Sopranos (with Weiner as executive producer) won the same award twice (2004, 2007). Weiner was named one of the 2011 Time 100 Most Influential People In The World. In November 2011, The Atlantic named him one of 21 "Brave Thinkers."
Weiner was born in 1965 in Baltimore to a Jewish family, attended The Park School of Baltimore and grew up in Los Angeles where he attended Harvard School for Boys. His father was a medical researcher and chair of the neurology department at USC. His mother was a lawyer. He enrolled in the College of Letters at Wesleyan University, studying literature, philosophy, and history and earned an MFA from the University of Southern California School of Cinema and Television.
Donald "Don" Draper is a fictional character and the protagonist of AMC's television series Mad Men. He is portrayed by 2008 Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm. Until the third season finale, Draper was Creative Director of Manhattan advertising firm Sterling Cooper. He became a founding partner at a new firm, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, after he and his superiors abandoned their old agency in advance of an unwanted acquisition.
Draper's character is partially based on Draper Daniels, the creative head of the Leo Burnett advertising agency in Chicago in the 1950s who created the Marlboro Man campaign. However, some of the advertising techniques and the professional accomplishments of Don Draper are based on those of Rosser Reeves, who rose to chairman of the Ted Bates agency.
In 2009, the fictional Draper was named the most influential man in the world by Ask Men, ahead of real-life figures.
Most of the characters in the series know little, if anything, of Draper’s history and true identity; Harry Crane remarks in the third episode of the series, "Draper? Who knows anything about that guy? No one’s ever lifted that rock. He could be Batman for all we know." Clues are given through flashbacks, confessions, and clandestine visits to figures from his past.
Jessica Paré (born December 5, 1980) is a Canadian film and television actress. She has appeared in the films Stardom (2000), Lost and Delirious (2001), Wicker Park (2004), Hot Tub Time Machine (2010), and co-starred in the vampire horror-comedy Suck (2009). She plays Megan on the fourth and fifth seasons of the American TV series Mad Men.
Paré was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Anthony Paré, the head of the education department at McGill University, and Louise Mercier, a conference interpreter. She grew up in the Montreal neighbourhood of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and has three brothers. Paré is bilingual, speaking both English and French. Her family is Catholic.
Paré's parents were both actors; her father was a drama teacher and toured with a theatre company. Her mother acted in amateur productions. Paré would watch her father at rehearsals as a child, and became interested in acting herself when helping him learn his lines for The Tempest. She attended Villa Maria, a private Catholic girl's high school in Montreal. Paré studied drama at TheatreWorks, and appeared in over half a dozen amateur theatre productions as a teenager, including roles as Maid Marian in Robin Hood and Lucy in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.
