Robin Mark Ventura (/vɛnˈtɜːrə/ ven-TURR-ə; born July 14, 1967) is an American manager of the Chicago White Sox and a former Major League Baseball (MLB) third baseman. Prior to becoming a manager, Ventura played 16 seasons in MLB, primarily for the White Sox, who selected him with the tenth overall pick in the 1988 amateur draft from Oklahoma State University (OSU). He is a six-time Rawlings Gold Glove winner, two-time MLB All-Star selection and a National College Baseball Hall of Fame inductee. He also played for the New York Mets, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers in his MLB career.
While playing college baseball for the Cowboys at OSU, Ventura was a three-time All-American who authored a Division I-record 58-game hitting streak. In 1988, he won the Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award and played for the gold medal-winning Olympic baseball team. While playing MLB, he hit 18 grand slams, ranking fifth all-time. In Game 5 of the 1999 National League Championship Series, Ventura hit the "Grand Slam Single" that won the game but did not actually become a home run because he was unable to complete the circuit around the base paths. Later in his playing career, cartilage and arthritis issues in his ankle hampered his abilities in the field. After the 2011 season, the White Sox hired him to be manager, making him the 17th former White Sox player to manage the club.

So I've decided to upload one video with both the Gary Thorne and Bob Costas calls of this unforgettable moment in Game 5 of the 1999 NLCS. I know there are people out there who prefer the Thorne call and others the Costas call. Personally, I don't think you can say one was better than the other, both were pretty legendary calls, but that's just my opinion. Enjoy and please subscribe.

White Sox Promote Renteria to Replace Ventura as Manager Rick Renteria is getting a second chance to manage in Chicago — this time on the South Side. The White Sox promoted Renteria from bench coach to replace Robin Ventura on Monday, hoping he can help turn around a struggling franchise. Renteria takes over a team with one playoff appearance since the 2005 championship year. And he gets a second chance after the Cubs unceremoniously let him go after the 2014 season so they could hire Joe Maddon. "I appreciate this tremendous opportunity," Renteria said in a statement released by the team. "We want to field a team that plays smart baseball, takes advantage of any opportunity within the game and competes hard each and every day in a way that makes White Sox fans proud of our team's effor...

A special look back at the Gary Ward era of Oklahoma State Cowboy Baseball, and the "Decade of Dominance" for the Cowboys in the 1980's. Gary Ward was Oklahoma State's head baseball coach from 1978 through 1996 and guided the Cowboys to an unprecedented 16 straight conference titles, 17 NCAA regional appearances and 10 trips to the College World Series. Seven of OSU's World Series appearances (1981-87) were in consecutive years, an NCAA record. The Cowboys also appeared in the NCAA championship game three times under Ward. He compiled a record of 953-313-1 in 19 seasons in Stillwater, before retiring prior to the 1997 campaign. Ward's career record of 1,022-361-1 (.739) is 13th best all-time in win percentage and 24th in the NCAA record books in wins. Gary Ward helped Oklahoma Sta...
Good Talk with Ryan Ventura #4 - Kris Blade & Scope Disclaimer: I ran into some technical difficulties recording this podcast with Kris Blade and Scope.
