Viaggio in Cina - Shanxi - II Parte

The Qiao Family Compound (simplified Chinese: 乔家大院; traditional Chinese: 喬家大院; pinyin: Qiáojiā Dàyuàn) is located 30 kilometers northeast of the historic Pingyao city, China. It is famous for being the chief location in the film Raise the Red Lantern. Begun during the reign of the Qing Dynasty's Emperor Qianlong (in 1756) and finished in the 18th century, it is a courtyard estate covering 9000 square meters and having 313 rooms with 4000 square meters within 6 large courtyards and 19 smaller courtyards. Its original Chinese name was Zai Zhong Tang (在中堂). Architects consider it to be one of the finest remaining examples of imposing private residences in northern China. It has been converted into a museum and has many period furnishings. And a big Thank You to Shanxi China....- published: 02 Nov 2013

Charming Shanxi, China

Ancient Chinese Treasure of Grottoes Sculpture
It is located 10 miles (16 km) west of Datong in Shanxi province, the Yungang Grottoes. The statues covering the cliff will catch your eyes upon entering. The most representative grotto is No 6 which features the story of the spreading of Buddhism, together with Buddha, Bodhisattvas, arhats and flying Apsaras. It is also known as the" Grotto of Sakyamuni". With a history of 1500 years, the Yungang Grottoes were first built in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534 AD). The whole area extends about two-third of a mile (1 km) from East to West. The existing 53 grottoes are the home to an amazing total of more than 5100 stone statues. In other word, the Yungang Grottoes are both a scenic spot and a valuable historical resource.- published: 23 Dec 2013
