The Moon Rats Have Landed for London Bus-Tops HD
Synopsis:
Space Rats do exist. They live on the dark side of the Moon hidden away from view until the invasion of Earth. Their journey through outer space is complete but at a great cost. Thousands did not make the trip, now an endangered species only the strongest of the Moon Rats survive. They lurk in the shadows, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The sound of city life disguises their presence like calm before a storm. Side by side the Space Rat army stand in formation, salivating over the massacre to come. Gleaming fangs sharpened for war piece through the darkness, creeping ever so closer. Now it’s only a matter of time!
The video promotes animation work I created for London Bus-Tops, a collaborative public art installation on the roofs of bus shelters across 20 London boroughs to the build up of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The piece is on show around London boroughs Barnet, Croydon, Harrow, Bromley, Camden and Hillingdon.
Watch my contribution - http://bus-tops.com/work/4666/
The LED screens are limited to 256 x 80 pixel displays in red only but the result is pretty cool
as imitated here in High Definition.
I conceived the idea while walking home one night in the filthy West London suburb of Southall, listening to track 7 'Action Radar' from The Prodigy album 'Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned', looking up to the moon lit sky.
Promo soundtrack: sample from Action Radar by The Prodigy.

Overview of Exhibition and Multimedia Project, Crossing the BLVD: strangers, neighbors, aliens in a new America
At a time when immigration issues and policy are being hotly debated throughout the nation, Crossing the BLVD: strangers, neighbors, aliens in a new America shares the stories, sounds, and images that reveal the human toll of a cold- and post-cold war-world, and pre- and post-9/11 world. Created by documentary artists Warren Lehrer and Judith Sloan, Crossing the BLVD forms a portrait of a paradoxical and ever-shifting America. It intimately portrays the lives of new immigrants and refugees living in Queens, NY, a modern-day Ellis Island where cultures overlap in a choreography of chaotic co-existence. For three years Lehrer/Sloan traveled the world by trekking the streets of their home borough in search of migration stories and a deeper connection to their diverse community. They began their project in 1999 by conducting storytelling workshops in libraries, high schools and community centers throughout Queens. Their journey continued through 2002 via photographic portraits and extended interviews in bodegas, family-owned restaurants, places of worship, public housing projects and private homes. The result is an extraordinary book of photographs and stories, an audio CD, a series of public radio documentaries, a reading/performance tour, a website, and a traveling exhibition of photographic prints, sound stations, and a Mobile Story Booth, allowing one to add one’s own portrait and story to the Crossing repository.

Brent Homeless User Group (B.HUG) and the West London Partnership – Mystery Shopping project
Jointly commissioned as a sub regional initiative by seven west London boroughs (Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow, Hounslow, Hillingdon and Kensington and Chelsea) the project involved five former homeless ‘mystery shoppers’ putting each of the boroughs’ homeless services to the test across a range of housing scenarios. Using mystery shopping techniques allowed the project to identify weaknesses and best practice across all of the providers.
The resultant report’s findings and recommendations highlighted a number of areas where boroughs could improve their services to homeless people; from simple physical changes to housing receptions to more detailed analysis of training needs to deliver consistent and effective services across the sub region.
