From there, it quickly spread to Liberia and Sierra Leone. Cases also appeared in Senegal and Nigeria, and a separate outbreak appeared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Today, Liberia lies is at the center of the epidemic, with more than 3,000 cases of infection — about half of which have been fatal. Just as President Obama announced that he would be sending American troops to help combat the epidemic, VICE News traveled to Monrovia, Liberia's capital, to spend time with those on the front lines of the outbreak. In Part 2, through the lens of an Ebola awareness team leader named Archie, we learn one of the main issues that is perpetuating the outbreak — confusion about the virus itself. People are always trying to conjure up a magic formula for getting young people interested in the news, but two Senegalese rappers may have cracked it. Keyti and Xuman - both veterans of Dakar's huge hip-hop scene - present the Journal Rappe, a short TV show that covers the week's news in a hip-hop format. The show was launched in April as a new way for the duo to combine their music with news, politics and entertainment. Journal Rappe takes a humourous approach to current affairs but the rappers take their mission seriously, regularly criticising politicians and encouraging people to register to vote. "I think that the only way to draw people in and capture their attention is to make the product interesting," said Keyti. "That they see we are having a good time making it, because whether it's Xuman or me, we have been perceived as engaged and serious artists and all, and all that allows us to break the ice." Keyti and Xuman are no strangers to Senegalese politics; they have been involved in campaigning for more than a decade. They used their music to encourage residents to register to vote ahead of the country's 2000 elections, and that ultimately helped former opposition figure Abdoulaye Wade get elected. They were also involved in the Y'en a Marre campaign to oust him when he fell out of favour after two terms, and now Macky Sall is President. Their political influence aside, Keyti and Xuman are good musicians who have a legion of loyal fans who attend their gigs and watch their content on YouTube.

The deadly Ebola outbreak gripping West Africa has now registered a case in Senegal. A young man from Guinea has become the country's first official victim of the virus. He has since been placed in quarantine, but the case will further worry international observers who fear the contagion of this crisis. Originating in Guinea- Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria have also seen the virus cross their borders. Over 1,500 people been killed by the current outbreak, but the World Health Organisation … READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2014/08/29/first-ebola-case-in-senegal-as-regional-fears-grow What is in the news today? Ebola crisis Mali confirms second Death For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS A Malian nurse has died of Ebola, the second confirmed death from the disease in the country. Officials say the nurse had treated a man who arrived from Guinea at the Pasteur Clinic in Bamako, and the clinic was now in quarantine. The latest case is unrelated to the first, when a two-year-old girl died from the disease in late October. Nearly 5,000 people have been killed in the West African outbreak, mostly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the outbreak a global health emergency. The new case in Mali comes a day after the WHO confirmed the release from quarantine of 25 of 100 people who were thought to have come into contact with the two-year-old girl who died on 24 October. The toddler's case alarmed the authorities in Mali after it was found she had displayed symptoms whilst travelling through the country by bus, including the capital Bamako, on her return from neighbouring Guinea. Ebola was first identified in Guinea in March, before it spread to neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone. The WHO says there are now more than 13,240 confirmed, suspected and probable cases, almost all in these countries. Cases have also emerged, though on a much smaller scale, in Nigeria, Senegal, Spain and the US, as well as in Mali. I want to thank the lead on the Ministry’s reform package, Mr. Randall Karim, Director, Policy and Strategy and his hard working team in the Policy and Strategy Directorate for their fortuitous contribution in positioning Trinidad and Tobago as making business easier’. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Trade, Industry, Investment and Communication, Director of the World Bank’s Caribbean Country Management Unit – Latin America and the Caribbean Region, Mrs. Sophie Sirtaine said ‘I would like to convey my sincere congratulations to Trinidad and Tobago on its ranking in the 2015 Doing Business Report … which places your country once more in a leadership position in the region.’ As the only economy from Latin America and the Caribbean who is ranked among the top ten improvers worldwide, she noted that ‘the reforms your country engaged on span across the highest number of indicators in the Caribbean’. If the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa has exposed anything, it is the poor health facilities often stagnated due to poor governance in the region. However, in Senegal the government is going the extra mile to improve its innoculation programme for children to reduce the number of fatalities from preventable diseases. Among the challenges is the design of the vaccination coolers which, although specifically made for the task, are not suitable for travel accross the irregular terrain, according to some nurses. Al Jazeera's Nicolas Haque reports from Nioro, Senegal.

Dakar is the capital and largest city of Senegal. It is located on the Cap-Vert Peninsula on the Atlantic coast and is the westernmost city in the Old World and on the African mainland. Its position, on the western edge of Africa, is an advantageous departure point for trans-Atlantic and European trade; this fact aided its growth into a major regional port.More info visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakar Image source : Under Commercial Use Allowed Slide 1: https://www.flickr.com/photos/attawayjl/5562333854 Slide 2 : https://www.flickr.com/photos/diagne/3431324638 Slide 3 : https://www.flickr.com/photos/attawayjl/4584304523 Slide 4: https://www.flickr.com/photos/attawayjl/5274051599 Slide 5: https://www.flickr.com/photos/attawayjl/5316580750 Slide 6: https://www.flickr.com/photos/attawayjl/5557101948 Slide 7: https://www.flickr.com/photos/attawayjl/5651584098 dakar senegal refugee camp dakar senegal refugee camp names list dakar senegal facts dakar senegal tourism dakar senegal map dakar senegal africa dakar senegal travel dakar senegal language

Women Travel for Peace brought five intrepid women to Senegal to work with local farming women. Together we built a well for the women's farming plot. As a result of our contribution, the local women now have water year-round to farm their crops, and they are able to work a shorter workday. When you work 365 days a year under the African sun, a shorter workday makes a vast difference.

noodls 2015-04-10Senegal i/ˌsɛnɨˈɡɔːl/ (French: le Sénégal), officially the Republic of Senegal (République du Sénégal, IPA: [ʁepyblik dy seneɡal]), is a country in western Africa. It owes its name to the Sénégal River that borders it to the east and north. Senegal is externally bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, and Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south; internally it almost completely surrounds The Gambia, namely on the north, east and south, exempting Gambia's short Atlantic Ocean coastline. Senegal covers a land area of almost 197,000 square kilometres (76,000 sq mi), and has an estimated population of about 13 million. The climate is tropical with two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season.
Dakar, the capital city of Senegal, is located at the westernmost tip of the country on the Cap-Vert peninsula. About 500 kilometres (300 mi) off the coast, in the Atlantic Ocean, lie the Cape Verde Islands. During the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous trading posts, belonging to various colonial empires, were established along the coast. The town of St. Louis became the capital of French West Africa (Afrique occidentale française, or AOF) before it was moved to Dakar in 1902. Dakar later became its capital in 1960 at the time of independence from France.
