Norfolk Island spearfishing update yellow fin tuna

14 N/Miles WNW of Norfolk island there's a sea mount which comes up from 1800 metres in depth to 60m of water where big fish patrol this area we where heading there when we came across a huge amount of birds working the surface as we watched the birds we seen splashes under them then followed by a huge yellow fin getting air Bourne we boated straight towards the birds the sound of the motor scared the fish away we killed the engine and waited and watched then the fish where on the surface again few hundred metres from where we where we moved a little close then jumped in and swam towards them like silence hunters as I got close fish came into view amazing seeing theses fish doing there thing as I kept swimming close a big shape was heading towards me I held my gun in front of me knowing it was a shark I seen how big the nose was I thought it was a tiger as it came closer I released it was a whale shark it swam straight up to me biggest thing iv ever seen its tail was thick as my wrists and it was long as the boat about 8 metres couldn't believe the size I still cant get over it, later on Jamie was able to dive down and catch a ride from it ! anyway back to the tuna which had moved up again they were feeding on small bait fish they where a fair way ahead by now so we got picked up on the boat once we where up in front again I jumped in and swam straight into them as they smashed bait straight in front of my eyes I lined the first one up that came close and pulled the trigger I took off going deep I watched it for a 2nd then went and put my gun on my 2nd float and started working the fish up once I had it up I asked Jamie to go put in another shot to be sure we land it he dived and took the shot then pulled the fish to the surface we thought it was done once it was on the surface it did laps around us tangling our gear wrapping mono around jamies go pro this is a scarey moment a fish with this power can easily drown you like this lucky for us it didn't go deep and i was able to get the mono off Jamie I then decided a 3rd shot was a need be ! I went to the boat and got another gun I loaded it and the fish came straight to me and I put another spear straight in its head and Jamie was able to get it by the gills and then we celebrated !! after some hi 5s and a photo we pulled it in the boat and sorted out the messy gear. once we were ready we were off for the next one. same thing found the birds and jumped into them this time they where deeper not very deep though 10m below the surface I dived down and wait for the first one to come past again smash hit it in-between the anal and dorsal fin and it took of fast bending my shaft right back to its tail I hit the surface and worked the fish up as normal Jamie came over and couldn't believe my luck with these fish swimming right up to me like im not a threat guess it pays to look small and weak in the water ! the fish were still feeding so Jamie asked if I was okay i said yeh sure I grabbed the 2nd gun from the boat and went down and put in another shot Jamie stuck around to make sure nothing went wrong I worked the fish up and tried to gill grab it but it would let me pulling me down as I held on to it so Jamie put his spear in its head and then I was able to have it by the gills :) two of the biggest fish iv ever seen and I got to spear them so stocked cant wait to do it again !!!
