One of the world's largest toads!!! This is Cookie the monster toad weighing in at an enormous 4 pounds!
This is one of the American toads we have in our backyard, and this one weighs in at about one ounce and is around 2.5 inches in length, and he likes to eat insects and other things he can find in the backyard.
Over here we have one of our largest pet toads. This is Cookie the monster toad. She is 4 pounds and about 10 inches in length and she likes to eat toads like this one as well as crickets. So let's see if we can compare them here. See if we can put her down and put this guy close to her. Cookie, actually, is a poisonous cane toad with the poison glands on the back of the neck.

Mark Lewis's short film from 1988 about the introduction of cane toads to Australia in the 1930s. His latest film - 'Cane Toads: The Conquest' - was released in 2010.
The cane toad was introduced to Queensland in an attempt to control the cane beetle grub which ravaged sugar cane planatations. Since this program was made, the toad has spread much further and has now reached the northern area of Western Australia.
Attempts are still being made to control the spread of the toads, so far without success. It has never shown the slightest interest in preying on the grubs.

Cane toad
The cane toad (Rhinella marina), also known as the giant neotropical toad or marine toad, is a large, terrestrial true toad which is native to South and mainland Middle America, but has been introduced to various islands throughout Oceania and the Caribbean, as well as northern Australia. It is a member of the genus Rhinella, but was formerly in the genus Bufo, which includes many different true toad species found throughout Central and South America. The cane toad is a prolific breeder; females lay single-clump spawns with thousands of eggs. Its reproductive success is partly because of opportunistic feeding: it has a diet, unusual among anurans, of both dead and living matter. Adults average 10–15 cm (3.9–5.9 in) in length; the largest recorded specimen weighed 2.65 kg (5.8 lb) with a length of 38 cm (15 in) from snout to vent.
The cane toad is an old species. A fossil toad (specimen UCMP 41159) from the La Venta fauna of the late Miocene of Colombia is indistinguishable from modern cane toads from northern South America. It was discovered in a floodplain deposit, which suggests the R. marina habitat preferences have always been for open areas.

Mark Lewis's short film from 1988 about the introduction of cane toads to Australia in the 1930s. His latest film - 'Cane Toads: The Conquest' - was released in 2010.
The cane toad was introduced to Queensland in an attempt to control the cane beetle grub which ravaged sugar cane planatations. Since this program was made, the toad has spread much further and has now reached the northern area of Western Australia.
Attempts are still being made to control the spread of the toads, so far without success. It has never shown the slightest interest in preying on the grubs.
