Broadcast over two nights on ITV in 2000, this drama was set in Stoke-on-Trent. It concerns the return of Trina to her home town, where a murder of many years ago is repeated. Keep an eye out for a street near you, if u live in stoke-on-Trent that is! This is the international sales version, combined into a single film of around 2 hours. The original was four hours, with adverts. It was released on VHS at WHSMITHS only, and never on DVD, and never repeated.

It's winter gala time ! Which means, we head to our first preserved railway event of the year, which is, the East Lancs Railway, for their superb winter steam gala. We opted to visit on the Saturday (17-01-15) and to say the conditions were wintry, would be a understatement. With the late withdrawal of BR 92212, the ELR, managed to get a late replacement, in the form of Great Western Railway 0-6-2T Number 5643. As usual the homefleet were all available, and put on some great performances, not forgetting to mention, Hughes LMS design Class 5MT 'Crab, that put in a storming run to, Walmersley Brook, with double banked, black fives on the rear. Ian Riley's Black Fives, were also paired together, for a run up the bank, to Heywood, climbing up the 1/85 climb past heap bridge. A big thanks to the ELR, for another great event, with trains running to time, plenty of people travelling, and top performances from locos & crews. Hope you enjoy the video. Blackpool. Travel - Sights. Blackpool is a major seaside town and borough of Lancashire, North West England. The town is a unitary authority area, noted for its political autonomy, independent of Lancashire County Council. It is situated along England's northwest coast located by the Irish Sea, between the Ribble and Wyre estuaries, 17.5 miles (28.2 km) northwest of Preston, 27 miles (43 km) north of Liverpool, 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Bolton and 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Manchester. It has an estimated population of 142,100, and a population density that makes it the fourth most densely populated borough of England and Wales outside Greater London. Blackpool is heavily dependent on tourism. In what is often regarded as its heyday (1900–1950), Blackpool thrived as the factory workers of Northern England took their annual holidays there en masse. Any photograph from that era shows crowds of tourists on the beach and promenade. Blackpool was also a preferred destination of visitors from Glasgow and remains so to this day. The town went into decline when cheap air travel arrived in the 1960s and the same workers decamped to the Mediterranean coastal resorts due to competitive prices and the more reliable weather. Today Blackpool remains the most popular seaside resort in the UK; however, the town has suffered a serious drop in numbers of visitors which have fallen from 17 million in 1992 to 10 million today. Similarly Pleasure Beach Blackpool was the country's most popular free attraction with 6 million visitors a year but has lost over a million visitors since 1998 and has recently introduced a £5 entrance fee. Today, many visitors stay for the weekend rather than for a week at a time. In July 2010, an independent survey of 4,500 members of the general public by consumer magazine Which? Holiday (now Which? Travel) found that Blackpool was the UK's favourite seaside resort, followed by Brighton, Whitby, Bournemouth and Scarborough. Blackpool has now improved the seawall and promenade, and Blackpool Tower has been revamped. In February 2012, a number of tourist attractions in Blackpool collaborated to produce the Blackpool Resort Pass which allows for discounted access in one ticket. The original pass included visits to Merlin Entertainments attractions and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. In February 2013, Marketing Blackpool, formerly the Tourism division of Blackpool Council, led the relaunch of the Blackpool Resort Pass which includes additional attractions including Blackpool Zoo, Sandcastle Waterpark and Blackpool Model Village and Gardens. Blackpool has a pioneering publicly owned Municipal wireless network Wi-Fi, which covers the entire town centre, promenade and beach front. Visitors can take a virtual tour of Blackpool, and full internet access is available. All images are either in the Public Domain or on Google images labeled for reuse. The naked bodies of two British tourists who had apparently been attacked with a hoe have been found on a beach in Thailand. The pair were found with head wounds on Koh Tao, an island in Surat Thani province known for its diving sites and stunning beaches. The victims' clothes and a hoe with blood stains were found nearby, Colonel Prachum Ruangthong from Thailand's police force said. Police suspect the victims - a 23-year-old woman from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and 24-year-old man from Jersey - were killed with the hoe, leaving deep wounds on their heads.Images from the scene show the woman's body sprawled metres from the sea in an area of the beach hidden by rocks and the suspected murder weapon discarded nearby. Col Prachum said: "The man was chopped in the back and on the side of his head, while the woman was chopped in her face. It's very gruesome." The pair had been staying in a bungalow 100 metres from where their bodies were found on Sairee beach and had been at a party there on Sunday night, according to Sky News sources. Investigators are probing whether there was a sexual motive for the attack and have been checking CCTV footage from nearby restaurants, hotels and shops for clues. Footage from the scene showed shocked tourists and locals gathered behind a cordon on the beach on Monday while dozens of police carried out investigations. The victims' bodies were removed from the beach in blue body bags. British travellers Kath Patel and Helen Bradbrook, who have been staying 100 metres from where the bodies were found, said they were shocked by the murders and had decided not to go out for their final night on the island. They said many people on the island have been carrying on with their holidays as normal. Ms Patel, 23, from Lancashire, told Sky News: "We have been in Vietnam and Cambodia, and out of everywhere we have been I have felt most safe here on Koh Tao. "We have not noticed anything between the locals, they have seemed really friendly." Ms Bradbrook, from Guildford, Surrey, added: "It is so small, like a really friendly atmosphere, and because it is just that one beach then you feel really safe when you are out." Sky News Asia Correspondent Mark Stone said police have shut down ferry routes to and from the mainland. He said: "It was a particularly gruesome attack. Eyewitnesses have said the two victims sustained incredibly serious head wounds." The Foreign Office (FCO) has sent a representative to the Thai island to assist with the investigation. According to the Lonely Planet travel guide, Koh Tao welcomes thousands of visitors who "come to worship the turquoise waters offshore". The guides say its coral, sharks and rays attract divers, while hikers enjoy jungle walks and the bar scene "rages on until dawn". Tourism in Thailand has been badly affected by the country's deep political crisis and the introduction of martial law.

The Independent 2015-03-30Lancashire ( /ˈlæŋkəʃər/ or, less commonly, /ˈlæŋkəʃɪər/) is a non-metropolitan county of historic origin in the North West of England. It takes its name from the city of Lancaster, and is sometimes known as the County of Lancaster. Although Lancaster is still considered to be the county town, Lancashire County Council is based in Preston. Lancashire is sometimes referred to by the abbreviation Lancs, as originally used by the Royal Mail. The population of the county is 1,449,700. People from the county are known as Lancastrians.
The history of Lancashire is thought to have begun with its founding in the 12th century. In the Domesday Book (1086), some of its lands had been treated as part of Yorkshire. The land that lay Inter Ripam et Mersam, "between the Ribble and Mersey", formed part of the returns for Cheshire. Once its initial boundaries were established, it bordered Cumberland, Westmorland, Yorkshire and Cheshire.
Lancashire emerged during the Industrial Revolution as a major commercial and industrial region. The county encompassed several hundred mill towns and collieries. By the 1830s, approximately 85% of all cotton manufactured worldwide was processed in Lancashire.Preston, Accrington, Blackburn, Bolton, Rochdale, Oldham, Chorley, Darwen, Nelson, Colne and Burnley were major cotton mill towns during this time. Blackpool was a major centre for tourism for the inhabitants of Lancashire's mill towns, particularly during wakes week.
