Essex ( /ˈɛsɨks/) is a ceremonial and non-metropolitan county in the East of England, and one of the home counties. It is located to the northeast of Greater London. It borders with Cambridgeshire and Suffolk to the north, Hertfordshire to the west, Kent to the South and London to the south west. Essex County Council is the principal local authority for much of the county, sharing functions with twelve district councils. The county town is Chelmsford. The southern Essex boroughs of Thurrock and Southend-on-Sea are governed separately as unitary authorities. It was established in antiquity and formed the eastern portion of the Kingdom of Essex. Sections of the county closer to London are part of the Metropolitan Green Belt, which prohibits development. It is the location of the regionally significant Lakeside Shopping Centre and London Stansted Airport; and the new towns of Basildon and Harlow.
The name Essex originates in the Anglo-Saxon period of the Early Middle Ages and has its root in the Old English Ēastseaxe (i.e. the "East Saxons"), the eastern kingdom of the Saxons. Originally (in 527 AD) it occupied territory to the north of the River Thames, incorporating all of what later became Middlesex and most of what later became Hertfordshire, though its territory was later restricted to lands east of the River Lea.Colchester in the north east of the county is Britain's oldest recorded town, dating back to before the Roman conquest, when it was known as Camulodunum and was sufficiently well-developed to have its own mint. Subsequently the Kingdom of Essex was subsumed into the Kingdom of England and Essex eventually became a county.
Plot
Have you ever wondered what your life may have been like if you took that other path or chose another career? Tangential Lives explores two lives the same man could have led. One as a former hedge fund manager living in a San Diego high-rise, and the other as a writer finding his way to Tahoe to finish a novel. Playing with elements of science fiction and live theater the film is a character study of the resulting decisions, and the relationships that grow out of them.
Plot
An untold chapter in the Mass Effect saga, following the early career of Alliance Marine, James Vega, as he leads a squad of elite special forces into battle against a mysterious alien threat known as The Collectors. Stationed at a colony in a remote star system, Vega and his troops must protect the inhabitants from an invasion of the deadly insectoid warriors determined to collect the population for unknown purposes. Soon after the attack, Vega's commanding officer falls in battle, forcing the young officer to embrace the responsibility of leadership for the colony's survival. Having idolized Earth's greatest hero and warrior, Commander Shepard (the central character in the Mass Effect video games), the young and idealistic Vega must now make life and the death decisions that will effect not only the lives of his squad, but the lives of every person in the colony - all of whom he has sworn to protect. Fighting valiantly for every life in his hands, Vega soon discovers the path of heroism is not as glamorous as he envisioned, and that victory in war always comes with a heavy price; the end of innocence, the sacrifice of one's ideals and ultimately, the loss of those closest to him.

Plot
In the distant future the world is in the grip of another ice age. A city originally built to house five million people is now in its death throes as the relentlessly advancing glacier is slowly crushing the metropolis's steel infrastructure. The relatively few surviving fur-clad inhabitants, perhaps thousands, perhaps only hundreds, drift aimlessly in their grim, drab world, awaiting their inevitable fate as they try to survive from day to day with scavenged firewood and minimal diet. Their only solaces are booza, an alcoholic drink distilled from moss, and Quintet, a seemingly innocuous board game for six players. The only other surviving mammals are roving packs of hungry mastiffs which roam the city's corridors and quickly dispose of the remains of the dead. Newly arrived from the south is Essex with his pregnant wife Vivia, seeking shelter in the doomed city only to find it populated by people middle-aged or older. They had supported themselves by hunting seals, but now that the last of the aquatic mammals has been killed off, they seek shelter in the apartment of Essex's brother, a renowned Quintet player. The new arrivals quickly learn that the game has a more sinister side.

One man against the world.
Essex: Tell me, is Saint Christopher as good a player as they say he is?::Grigor: He is good, but too serious::Essex: and not very talkative.::Grigor: Talk? Oh, if it is talk you want, come with me Redstone [Essex is passing as Redstone] ; I know a place. We can have drinks, and talk...
Grigor: ...and talk about life.::Essex: The only thing I've seen is death, or the prospect of it.::Grigor: But that's what makes life worthwhile; every time you cheat death, you feel the pure thrill of life
Grigor: And that is what my job is; that is why I'm so content in this frozen world.::Essex: Tell me, exactly what is your job?::Grigor: to keep the game alive. The game is all that's important. The only intelligent expression left is the game of Quintet. All the elements of life are contained in it; our art, our philosophy, all things of value fit the game. The game is the only thing of value
Saint Christopher: You'll never understand the scheme until you're part of the scheme.::Essex: Are you telling me I will be?::Saint Christopher: Yes, at the exact moment it will be too late.
Goldstar: I find you despicable. I despise your arrogance.::Grigor: It is as planned.
Essex: It's not common for people to smile.
Saint Christopher: Hope is an obsolete word.
Vivia, Essex's Wife: [Passing a motionless body] Shouldn't we help him? He's going to freeze to death.::Essex: [Examining the body] He already has.
Ambrosia: Trying to find a meaning where there is none? Death is arbitrary.

Mr. Chips Is Back In A New Thrilling Romance!
My friends all tell me
Go to him, run to him
Say sweet lovely things to him
And tell him - he's the one
Deep in my heart I know it
But it's so hard to show it
'Cause it's easier - easier said than done
My buddies tell me
Fly to him, sigh to him
Tell him I would die for him
And tell him - he's the one
Although he gives me a feeling
That sets my heart a-reeling
Yet it's easier - easier said than done
Well, I know (I know) that I love him so
But I'm afraid that he'll never know
Because I (I-I) I get so timid and shy
Each time that I look him in the eye
They all tell me
Sing to him, swing with him
And just do anything for him
And tell him - he's the one
I've got a love so true and
Yet I'm sad and blue
'Cause it's easier - easier said than done
Well I know (I know) I love him so
But I'm afraid that he'll never know
Because I (I-I)I get so timid and shy
Each time that I look him in the eye
They all tell me
Sing to him, swing with him

I'm getting into something
You got me into something good
Like I knew you would
I'm moving into something
You move me into something easy
And it pleases me
Took me by surprise
Never saw the light
Until you turned it on
You got me into something
God knows I'm hitton on life
And I wonder why the sun ain't shinin' where you are
You know it's alright baby
It ain't over
Oh it's only ours to lose
What is gone well we can't use together
So it's alright baby, it ain't over
I didn't mean to hurt you
I'm gettin' into something
You got me into something wild
And I'm getting high
I'm pulling into something
You pull me into something deeper
Oh it's deeper now
Took me by surprise
I never thought that I would give it out again
You got me into something
God knows I wanna be as close as I'll ever be
Something's getting into me
You know it's alright baby it ain't over
It was only ours to lose
What is gone, well we can't use together
So it's alright baby it ain't over
I dind't mean to hurt you
It was nothing, I was dreaming
But I'd rather live believing
The time you got addictive
I was somewhere getting used
When you were self abusive
I put out and got abused
With you I don't feel the need to qualify my life
Let's get it on before it's gone
Just meet me at the corner
Cos it's alright
My friends all tell me
Go to him, run to him,
Say sweet lovely things to him,
And tell him - he's the one.
Deep in my heart I know it,
But it's so hard to show it
'Cause it's easier - easier said than done.
