More snow overnight, so an early start & drive towards the St. Johns Chapel area of County Durham. Firstly, I travel up Harthope Moss or Chapel Fell, as it is more familiarly known. The road is one of the highest 'B' roads in England, cutting across the North Pennines from Weardale to Teesdale for around six miles. Always a nice ride anytime of the year, weather permitting? Then a few shots around St. Johns Chapel & then a further five miles up Weardale to Killhope Lead Mining Museum.

Durham Cathedral, in the city of Durham in northeast England is the greatest Norman building in England and perhaps even in Europe. It is cherished not only for its architecture but also for its incomparable setting. The foundation stone of Durham Cathedral was laid on August 12, 1093. Since that time, there have been major additions and reconstructions of some parts of the building, but the greater part of the structure remains true to the Norman design. In a nationwide BBC poll held in 2001 Durham Cathedral was voted England’s best-loved building. Duke University is a private research university located in Durham, North Carolina, United States. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892. In 1924, tobacco and electric power industrialist James B. Duke established The Duke Endowment, at which time the institution changed its name to honor his deceased father, Washington Duke. The university has "historical, formal, on-going, and symbolic ties" with the United Methodist Church, but is a nonsectarian and independent institution. Duke's research expenditures in the 2010 fiscal year topped $983 million, the fifth largest figure in the nation. Competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Duke's athletic teams—known as the Blue Devils—have captured twelve national championships, including four by its high profile men's basketball team. The university's campus spans over 8,600 acres (35 km2) on three contiguous campuses in Durham as well as a marine lab in Beaufort. Duke's main campus—designed largely by the prominent African American architect Julian Abele—incorporates Gothic architecture with the 210-foot (64 m) Duke Chapel at the campus' epicenter and highest point of elevation. The forest environs surrounding parts of the campus belie the University's proximity to downtown Durham. Construction projects have updated both the freshmen-populated Georgian-style East Campus and the main Gothic-style West Campus, as well as the adjacent Medical Center over the past five years.

Wynyard Hall Hotel was chosen by Natasha and Matthew to host their wedding reception. The couple also hired County Durham Wedding DJ to provide part of the entertainment package for the second half of their wedding day. As well as the wide range of music provided by us, the happy couple also has a singer to provide a short spell of live music. The rest of the evening was down to us to use our knowledge and experience to entertain the various ages in attendance - something that we always do at the various events we do throughout the North East each year. County Durham Wedding DJ has been to Wynyard Hall Hotel many times and it's always great to perform in such a lovely venue and it's refreshing to see that not all couples go for the Resident DJ option and it's great to know that couples looking for their wedding DJ can and will research who they feel is the best company to provide the mobile disco and music that they want. Natasha and Matthew liaised closely with us on the run up to their special day and they provided a list of their favourite songs to incorporate into the evening wedding reception. Their selections included the first dance, John Legend - All Of Me, which was sung by a singer who also performed Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud and Kiesza - Hideaway. Wedding Reception Venue: Wynyard Hall Hotel, Billingham in Cleveland For more information, please visit the County Durham Wedding DJ website: http://www.countydurhamweddingdj.co.uk Alternatively, you can contact us on our Freephone number 0800 118 2811 or on our mobile number 07857 922004.

A partial 'Solar Eclipse' occurred on the 20th of march 2015. Here are my some highlights of my footage filmed at Spennymoor, County Durham, England. The 90% partial eclipse occurred at around 9.30am GMT and I was there to capture whatever footage I could? The main thing that I noticed during the eclipse, was a drop in temperature, whilst birds seemed confused & began to roost for a few minutes as at dusk.

Durham ( /ˈdʌrəm/, locally /ˈdɜrəm/) is a city in north east England. It is within the County Durham local government district, and is the county town of the larger ceremonial county. It lies to the south of Newcastle upon Tyne, Chester-le-Street and Sunderland and to the north of Darlington.
Durham is well known for its Norman cathedral and 11th-century castle, both designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. The castle has been the home of Durham University since 1832. HM Prison Durham is also located close to the city centre.
The name "Durham" comes from the Old English "dun", meaning hill, and the Old Norse "holme", which translates to island. The Lord Bishop of Durham takes a Latin variation of the city's name in his official signature, which is signed "N. Dunelm." Some attribute the city's name to the legend of the Dun Cow and the milkmaid who in legend guided the monks of Lindisfarne carrying the body of Saint Cuthbert to the site of the present city in 995 AD. Dun Cow Lane is said to be one of the first streets in Durham, being directly to the east of Durham Cathedral and taking its name from a depiction of the city's founding etched in masonry on the south side of the cathedral. The city has been known by a number of names throughout history. The original Nordic Dun Holm was changed to Duresme by the Normans and was known in Latin as Dunelm. The modern form Durham came into use later in the city's history. The north eastern historian, Robert Surtees chronicled the name changes in his History and Antiquities of the County Palatine of Durham but states that it is an "impossibility" to tell when the city's modern name came into being.
County Durham /ˈdʌrəm/ is a ceremonial county and (smaller) unitary district in north east England. The county town is Durham. The largest settlement in the ceremonial county (in its own unitary Borough) is the town of Darlington. The county has a mixture of mining and farming heritage, as well as a heavy railway industry, particularity in the southwest of the county in Darlington, Shildon and Stockton. Its economy was historically based on coal and iron mining. It is an area of regeneration and promoted as a tourist destination.
The ceremonial county borders Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire and Northumberland forms part of the North East England region.
Many counties are named after their principal town, and the expected form here would be Durhamshire. The county is commonly known as County Durham but was officially named Durham until at least 1997. The structural change legislation in 2009, however, referred to the county of County Durham. The former postal county was known as "County Durham" to distinguish it from the post town of Durham. Durham is the only English county name to be prefixed with "County" in common usage - a practice more common in Ireland.
