THE DARK AGES - Full Documentary
The Mysterious Dark Ages (HD Ancient Middle Ages History Documentary) At its height in the second century A.D., the Roman Empire was the beacon of learning, trade, power and prosperity in the western world. But the once-powerful Rome--rotten to the core by the fifth century--lay open to barbarian warriors who came in wave after wave of invasion, slaughtering, stealing, and ultimately, settling. As chaos replaced culture, Europe was beset by famine, plague, persecutions, and a state of war that was so persistent it was only rarely interrupted by peace. THE DARK AGES profiles those who battled to shape the future, from the warlords whose armies threatened to case the demise of European society, like Alaric, Charles the Hammer, and Clovis; to the men and women who valiantly tended the flames of justice, knowledge, and innovation including Charlemagne, St. Benedict, Empress Theodora, and other brave souls who fought for peace and enlightenment. It was in the shadows of this turbulent millennium that the seeds of modern civilization were sown.

THE REAL DARK AGES: OFFA (ANCIENT MIDDLE AGES HISTORY DOCUMENTARY) Offa, (died July 796), one of the most powerful kings in early Anglo-Saxon England. As ruler of Mercia from 757 to 796, Offa brought southern England to the highest level of political unification it had yet achieved in the Anglo-Saxon period (5th–11th century ad). He also formed ties with rulers on the European continent. A member of an ancient Mercian ruling family, Offa seized power in the civil war that followed the murder of his cousin, King Aethelbald (reigned 716–757). By ruthlessly suppressing resistance from several small kingdoms in and around Mercia, he created a single state covering most of England south of modern Yorkshire. The lesser kings of this region paid him homage, and he married his daughters to the rulers of Wessex and Northumbria. Offa appears to have aspired to be accepted as an equal by continental monarchs. Charlemagne, king of the Franks, quarreled with Offa, but the two rulers concluded a commercial treaty in 796. In addition, Offa maintained a friendly relationship with Pope Adrian I, who was allowed to increase his control over the English church, while acceding to Offa’s request for the creation of an archbishopric of Lichfield. This remarkable, if temporary, change in church organization freed the Mercian church from the authority of the archbishop of Canterbury, who was seated among Offa’s enemies in the kingdom of Kent. An impressive memorial to Offa’s power survives in the great earthwork known as Offa’s Dyke, which he had constructed between Mercia and the Welsh settlements to the west. Perhaps the most enduring achievement of his reign was the establishment of a new form of coinage bearing the king’s name and title and the name of the moneyer responsible for the quality of the coins. The principles governing his coinage were employed in England for centuries afterward.

The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210) Professor Freedman outlines the problems facing the Roman Empire in the third century. The Persian Sassanid dynasty in the East and various Germanic tribes in the West threatened the Empire as never before. Internally, the Empire struggled with the problem of succession, an economy wracked by inflation, and the decline of the local elite which had once held it together. Having considered these issues, Professor Freedman then moves on to the reforms enacted under Diocletian to stabilize the Empire. He attempted to solve the problem of succession by setting up a system of joint rule called the Tetrarchy, to stabilize the economy through tax reform, and to protect the frontiers through militarization. Although many of his policies failed--some within his lifetime--Diocletian nevertheless saved the Roman Empire from collapse. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Introduction and Logistics 01:35 - Chapter 2. The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210) The Roman Empire in the West collapsed as a political entity in the fifth century although the Eastern part survived the crisis.. Professor Freedman considers this transformation through three main questions: Why did the West fall apart -- because of the external pressure of invasions or the internal problems of institutional decline? Who were these invading barbarians? Finally, does this transformation mark a gradual shift or is it right to regard it as a cataclysmic end of civilization? Professor Freedman, as a moderate catastrophist, argues that this period marked the end of a particular civilization rather than the end of civilization in general. 00:00 - Chapter 1. The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210) Professor Freedman opens by discussing why historians use the writings of Procopius and Gregory of Tours, a sixth century bishop whose history of the Merovingian kings is discussed the following week. Procopius's three works -- The Wars, the adulatory Buildings, and the invective Secret History -- are the best sources on the reign of the Emperor Justinian. Under Justinian and his wife Theodora, the Roman Empire reached its height as it reclaimed territories in North Africa and Europe previously lost to the Vandals, Visigoths and Ostrogoths.. However, defeats in war accompanied by heavy taxation led to civil unrest. In addition to the wars, Justinian commissioned a number of large projects like the building of the Hagia Sophia and the organization of Roman law in the Corpus Iuris Civilis. 00:00 - Chapter 1. The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210) In this lecture, Professor Freedman considers the importance of the British Isles in the early Middle Ages, both in their own right and as an example of a post-Roman frontier society. In the wake of the fifth century Roman withdrawal, England experienced "radical economic simplification." However, England's conversion to Christianity beginning at the end of the sixth century brought about a flourishing written culture and Latin learning. Ireland experienced a similar cultural flowering, although it had converted to Christianity centuries earlier. It had never been colonized by the Romans, and the Irish Church was less hierarchical, more decentralized, and placed less importance on bishops than did the Roman. The conversion of England under the competeing influences of Rome and ireland was thus not just a conflict between Christianity and paganism, but also between two administrative styles of Christianity. Professor Freedman ends the lecture with a few remarks on the cultural accomplishments of the British Isles. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Introduction to the British Isles 22:32 - Chapter 2. The Conversion of England 36:30 - Chapter 3. The Conversion of Ireland and the Irish Church 45:34 - Chapter 4. The Monastery of Selja People have traveled here for over 1000 years, to experience Norway's first pilgrimage place, with unique cultural heritage from the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. The first pilgrimage in Norway On the island of Selja, 15 min. from Selje, lie the ruins of Selja monastery, perhaps the oldest monastery in Norway. The monastery tower is still intact. The monastery was built by Benedictine monks in the early 1100s, in memory of St. Sunniva. You can explore this part of Norwegian history on a guided tour during the summer season. Selja was in 996 the first pilgrimage in the country when King Olav Tryggvason found relics in a cave on the island. Norway has two male saints, (St.Olav and St.Hallvard) and one female, St.Sunniva, the patron saint of Western Norway. She came ashore on the island of Selja. The St.Sunniva cave, where Sunniva died, is a large cave with traces of the first church, consecrated to the Archangel Michael. From 1068 to 1170 Selja was the diocese for the entire West Coast. "Acta Sanctorum in Selio" - The story about the saints of Selja The story tells that the Irish princess Sunniva escaped when her country was overrun by heathens and the new king wanted to marry her. Wind and currents led them north. The boat Sunniva was in stranded in the harbor at the end of the island of Selja. Here they lived in caves. The earl Håkon, who had previously conquered all of Norway, was now on his way to the island after hearing rumors about the uninvited guests. When they saw that Hakon Jarl and his companions were on their way, they went into the cave and prayed to God that he had to "give their souls the everlasting rest and let his angels break down the mountain and bury them under it." The prayers were heard, and the rock came down. A little while later the earl was killed, and the christian king Olav Tryggvason took over. Unexplained things happened at Selja, and more and more stories reached the new king. Finally the king and the bishop went to the the island. They examined the place, and found remnants of the Irish people. After this, they built a church on the island, and the story says that "God has made signs and great deeds to this day" on the island of Selja. In 996, they found the body of Saint Sunniva, whole and unharmed. In 1170 they moved Sunniva to Bjørgvin and put the casket in Kirstkyrkja church. On the island you will also find: • The remains of the first parish church, which was later moved to the mainland. • Ruins of the St.Sunniva church, on the same spot where King Olav Tryggvason built one of the first churches in the country. • Ruins of the St.Albanus church - a monastery church consecrated to the English saint St.Albanus. Monastery ruins are currently being used for church ceremonies, for example fairs and weddings. On the south side of the island there have been found several Viking graves and remains of a longhouse (farm building) from the Iron Age.

LONDON: Losing weight in middle age may mean losing not just unwanted fat, but also precious bone density, at least for women, a new U.S. study suggests. Regardless of the types of foods or amount of calcium in their diets, middle aged women who lost a moderate amount of weight over a two-year period also lost more bone density than men or younger women. Changes in bone density following moderate weight loss may be sex-specific and influenced by hormones, the study team writes in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. “Weight loss has been associated with beneficial effects on cardiovascular risk factors like diabetes. However, extremes of weight loss have been associated with bone loss, and according to some studies, increased risk of fracture,” senior author Dr. Meryl LeBoff of Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston told Reuters Health. “Osteoporosis is a major public health problem and 40 percent of women and 20 percent of men ages 50 years and older will develop an osteoporotic fracture in their remaining lifetime,” LeBoff said. “So there's a real concern about skeletal health particularly among the population 50 years and older.” LeBoff’s team analyzed data gathered during a large weight loss study in which 424 participants were randomly assigned to follow one of four low-calorie diets. (Two diets were considered to be high-protein, and two contained an average amount of protein.) Participants were 30 to 70 years old and overweight or obese at the start of the study. About 60 percent were women. Bone density measurements of the spine and hip were taken at the outset, six months into the diets and again after two years, at which point 236 men and women completed the study. By the end of two years, men lost an average of eight percent of their original body weight, and women lost an average of 6.4 percent. With comparable amounts of weight loss, "the women lost bone density at the spine and the hip in the postmenopausal group and the men actually gained bone density at the spine and had a stable bone density of the hip,” LeBoff said. Premenopausal women only lost bone density at the hip, the study team noted. And among menopausal women, loss of abdominal fat – the kind linked with heart disease and diabetes risk – was particularly linked to bone loss. Differences in bone loss were also tied to the amount of muscle – known as lean mass - a person lost. Men lost more weight, and more fat mass than lean mass, compared to the women, LeBoff said. “There have been associations between lean mass and bone mass because lean mass has important effects on the skeleton.” In postmenopausal women, losses of lean mass and fat mass both correlated with bone density loss in the spine and hip, LeBoff said. “So . . . while weight loss can have beneficial effects on a number of cardiovascular and other health outcomes, it's important to consider skeletal health, particularly in women in whom weight loss can result in bone loss and since women are at a markedly increased risk for fractures,” she said. LeBoff said more research is needed to try to understand the sex differences in bone loss. Dr. Kathryn Diemer, director of the Bone Health Program at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, said the loss of bone density in all the dieters looked to be quite small, about a one to two percent decrease. “So while statistically significant, in terms of fracture risk, it isn’t much,” Diemer, who wasn’t involved in the study, told Reuters Health. Diemer said it’s important for obese patients to lose weight, and there are ways to prevent bone density loss. “Walking is very important for these patients,” for example, she said. In addition, Diemer suggests taking calcium, getting vitamin D levels checked and monitoring bone density. “As long as they're doing that with their primary care physician, or seeing somebody like me, we’ll follow them and make sure they don't increase the risk of fracture,” she said. --Reuters

Jamaica Observer 2015-04-19The Middle Ages (adjectival form: medieval, mediaeval or mediæval) is a period of European history encompassing the 5th to the 15th centuries. It is normally marked from the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, accepted as the end of Classical Antiquity, until the beginning of the Renaissance and Age of Discovery, which ushered in the Modern Era. It is thus the middle period of the traditional division of Western history into Classical, Medieval, and Modern. The Middle Ages is often split into two or three sub-divisions.
In the Early Middle Ages, depopulation, deurbanization, and barbarian invasion, all of which had begun in Late Antiquity, continued apace. The barbarian invaders formed their own new kingdoms in the remains of the Western Roman Empire. In the 7th century North Africa and the Middle East, once part of the eastern empire, became an Islamic Empire after conquest by Muhammad's successors. Although there were substantial changes in society and political structures, the break was not as extreme as once put forth by historians, with most of the new kingdoms incorporating as many of the existing Roman institutions as they could. Christianity expanded in western Europe and monasteries were founded. In the 7th and 8th centuries the Franks, under the Carolingian dynasty, established an empire covering much of western Europe; it lasted until the 9th century, when it succumbed to pressure from new invaders – the Vikings, Magyars, and Saracens.
The Limbourg brothers, or in Dutch Gebroeders van Limburg (Herman, Paul, and Johan; fl. 1385 – 1416), were famous Dutch miniature painters from the city of Nijmegen. They were active in the early 15th century in France and Burgundy, working in the style known as International Gothic. They created what is certainly the best known late medieval illuminated manuscript, the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry.
The brothers' grandfather, Johannes de Lymborgh probably came from Limbourg on the Vesdre to Nijmegen, then the capital of the duchy of Gelre. Johannes' son, Arnold, was a wood carver who worked for the ducal court. Around 1385 Arnold married Mechteld Maelwael or Maloeul, the daughter of a well-to-do family of heraldic painters. Herman (Hermant in French sources) was the eldest child (born about 1385), followed by Paul (Polleke; or Polequin in French sources: 1386 or 1387), and Johan (Johanneke; or Jacquemin, Gillequin, or Jehanequin in French sources: probably 1388). There were two younger brothers, Rutger and Arnold, and a sister, Greta.
Darl tales of middle ages, scent blood and hate; injustices with theft.
Voices from torture dungeon, guardians with black mask, irontongs on fire.
Diabolical looks of tormentors, fearness dreams of imprisoners.
Pain and agony, killers of shouts, suffocaters of cries, satisfy shouting revenge dungeon.
Servitude abases the human conscience, confiscates the conniving slaves.
Aggrogance of carcass remains show their anger with a strong congeal.
Taste the cold but ardent carver can easily chop you in two in a minute then easily be commemorated.

Became turbid with her breasts then klitoris consequently.

Toilsome torture goes on and the last and the worst mistake she has ever done,
Misfortunate of others, agonizing bodies of minority.
Maltreat of the mankind, first push the tongue into the maidens pussy then bite hardly with a gorment.
Listen her last cries as a hymn
As a satisfactory orgasm makes it wargasm consequently on your mind,
