TV9 News: PM Narendra Modi Arrives in Bhutan; Gets a Red Carpet Welcome..., Follow us on : DAILYMOTON: http://www.dailymotion.com/TV9Kannadanews YOUTUBE : http://www.youtube.com/user/tv9kannadanews FACEBOOK : https://www.facebook.com/Tv9Karnatakanews TWITTER : https://twitter.com/tv9kannada PINTEREST : http://pinterest.com/tv9karnataka Embarking on his first foreign visit since taking over, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Sunday to cement India's 'unique and special relationship' with Bhutan and his thrust to make the ties more effective. A grand welcome was accorded to him by the Bhutanese government which rolled out a red carpet and gave a ceremonial guard of honour to him. Modi, accompanied by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, NSA Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh, was received at the Paro airport by Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and several of his Cabinet colleagues. The Prime Minister drove down from Paro to Thimphu, a distance of about 50 kms, traversing through the picturesque mountainous ranges. Common people, including children, in colourful attire lined up most of the road between Paro and Thimphu, waving Indian and Bhutanese flags. Big hoardings carrying Modi's photographs also could be seen en route. Soon after his arrival, Modi called on Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk. Before embarking on the two-day visit, Modi said Bhutan was a 'natural choice' as his first foreign destination because of the 'unique and special relationship'. The fact that the Prime Minister chose Bhutan as his first foreign destination assumes significance since China has lately intensified efforts to woo it and establish full- fledged diplomatic ties with Thimphu. In his pre-departure statement, Modi said relations with Bhutan will be a key foreign policy priority of his government. "I am looking forward to my first-ever visit to Bhutan and to nurturing and further strengthening India's special relations with Bhutan," said Modi before undertaking the trip at the invitation of Bhutan's King and the Prime Minister. "Our relations with Bhutan are unique and especially warm. Our historical and cultural linkages make us natural friends and partners," Foreign Secretary Singh told a press conference in Delhi. "Bhutan is one of our most important strategic partners ....It is a very good country to show our policy of good neighbourliness in South Asia and special token of our friendship," she said explaining why Bhutan was chosen as the first foreign destination of Modi. Modi will hold talks with Prime Minister Tobgay during his visit which will see the two sides exploring ways to boost their ties, particularly in trade and hydro-electricity. He will also address the joint session of the Parliament of Bhutan. He will also inaugurate one of India's assistance projects -- the building of the Supreme Court of Bhutan. Traditional Bhutanese are generally made of earth rammed walls and each house accommodates a small temple inside the house itself. Woods are extensively used and bizarre it may seem the houses are protected by a wooden phallus, which are hung on the main door of the house to ward off evil spirits. The Driglam Namzha codifies the traditional rules for the construction of the dzongs as well as ordinary buildings. The Driglam Namzha is the official behaviour and dress code of the Kingdom of Bhutan. It governs how citizens should dress in public and how they should behave in formal settings. It also regulates a number of cultural assets such as art and architecture. In English, driglam means "order, discipline, custom, rules, regimen" and namzha means "system," though the term may be styled "The Rules for Disciplined Behaviour." Traditional Bhutanese house have a distinct character from those of other Himalayan countries. Due to the steep terrain, they are usually built as scattered houses of in clusters, rather than in rows. Traditional houses are built without the use of a single nail and all houses follow the same architectural pattern. They are normally three-storeyed with room for livestock on the ground floor, storage and sometimes living quarters on the second floor, while the third floor houses living quarters and the shrine-room. Between the third floor and the roof an open space is usually kept for open-air storage. Stones are used to hold down wood-en shingles on the roof. The typical construction materials used in traditional Bhutanese houses are timber, stone, clay and bricks. source - www.adventurebhutantravel.com/traditional-house-in-bhutan This footage is part of the professionally-shot broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of HD imagery from South Asia. A Dhamma discourse by Phra Ajahn Jayasaro given at Royal Thimphu College, Thimphu, Bhutan, on 28 October 2011.
Although the Thimphu Valley has supported small settlements for many centuries and a dzong has existed there since 1216, the city didn't really develop until the king declared Thimphu the new capital in 1961. Vehicles first appeared on the streets a year later, and slowly the city began to adapt to its role as the nation's capital. Currently the town is undergoing massive development. Thimphu, also in the past spelled as Thimpu, is the capital and largest city of Bhutan. It is situated in the western central part of Bhutan and the surrounding valley is one of Bhutan's dzongkhags, the Thimphu District. This is a time lapse video (8x faster than real time) of driving from Thimphu to Paro, and then on to our hotel just beyound Paro.
The distance between Phuentsholing and Thimphu is about 175 kms. The condition of this highway is excellent. However there are hundreds of hairpin bends and many people may suffer from vertigo and vomiting. Only taxis and small toyota coaster buses travel on this route. Bigger buses are not allowed on this route. It takes about 6 hours to reach Thimphu from Phuentsholing. All the way we had river Wang chu flowing on our left side. The views of river, trees, mountains and cloud were creating a dream environment. There is a huge gate near Chuzm where the road bifurcates to Thimphu and Paro. Near the gate, there is a large prayer wheel at the left and large picture of the King and queen on the right side. We could see another gate "Welcome to Thimphu City" before entering Thimphu city. Gradually the number of buildings increased when we entered into the township. It was a magnificent journey on Himalayan mountains. Hope this video will help people intending to travel Thimphu and other parts of Bhutan.

See the Punakha chhu river flowing and splashing against the rocks, on its course below Punakha in Bhutan. Close-up of Himalayan blue-green clean river waters, at their best. Sankosh (also Gadadhar and Svarnakosha) is a river that rises in northern Bhutan and empties into the Brahmaputra in the state of Assam in India. In Bhutan, it is known as the Puna Tsang Chu below the confluences of several tributaries near the town of Wangdue Phodrang. The two largest tributaries are the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu, which flow together at Punakha. The Punakha dzong, which is situated immediately above the confluence of the two rivers, is one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan and the winter residence of the Central Monk Body. The upper reaches of the Pho Chhu are susceptible to ice blockages, and the dzong has been damaged on several occasions by glacial outburst floods (GLOF). At Wangdue Phodrang, (altitude 1364 m), the river is joined by the west flowing Dang Chhu and it enters a precipitous gorge. The highway running south from Wangdue Phodrang to Dagana follows the river for much of its course. Near the town of Takshay is the confluence with the west flowing Hara Chhu. The last major Bhutanese tributary is the Daga Chhu. Dragon Kingdom - Bhutan has an unusual king, who is beginning to share power and improve education voluntarily. He's determined to put his country first. For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/18603/short-films/dragon-kingdom.html In a world where despots cling to power by any means, Bhutan's much loved King is voluntarily relinquishing control. It's part of a plan to engage with the wider world. This tiny mountain kingdom is one of the least disturbed places on earth. Here, emphasis is placed on 'Gross National Happiness', and schools teach children to live in harmony. "We are an independent kingdom with a very strong policy that preserves our environment," explains author Tshewang Dhendup. The king is widely revered across the country. "He's a very humble man," explains one friend. "No Swiss bank accounts, no Lear jets. Lives in a log cabin." His subjects are still coming to terms with his decision to share power. The Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, in recent years, has gained international attention for its concept of Gross National Happiness. That was a term coined by Bhutan's fourth king in 1972 and was meant to be an alternative to the traditional measure of development: gross national product. The small country is now taking GNH beyond an intellectual discourse and incorporating its values into its educational curriculum. VOA Correspondent Steve Herman, reporting from Bhutan, discovered that stressing happiness actually has deep historical roots in the remote nation.

The remote, isolated Kingdom of Bhutan measures its economy on Gross National Happiness. In Bhutan butter is important for both cooking and ceremonial purposes. Will visits a small farm to see how the locals churn butter by hand and samples the local cuisine before being invited to visit one of the oldest monasteries in this devoutly Buddhist country, where he lights candles to guide the souls of the dead. After sampling a cheese and chilli dish, Will travels high into the Himalayas for a lesson in how to milk a yak. He makes cheese the traditional way, in a smoky mountain hut, before enjoying a game of archery with his hosts.

Bhutan (Dzongkha: འབྲུག་ཡུལ་, tr ʼbrug-yul, "Druk Yul"; Devanagari भूटान, Bhūṭān), officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked state in South Asia, located at the eastern end of the Himalayas and bordered to the south, east and west by the Republic of India and to the north by the People's Republic of China. Bhutan is separated from the nearby country of Nepal to the west by the Indian state of Sikkim, and from Bangladesh to the south by the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal.
Bhutan existed as a patchwork of minor warring fiefdoms until the early 17th century, when the area was unified by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who fled religious persecution in Tibet and cultivated a separate Bhutanese identity. In the early 20th century, Bhutan came into contact with the British Empire, after which Bhutan continued strong bilateral relations with India upon its independence. In 2006, Business Week rated Bhutan the happiest country in Asia and the eighth-happiest in the world, based on a global survey.
Is it time to accept
Is it time to smile and rest
Is that all there is
Is it time to believe
In a theory of destinies
If it's true that the end
is nothing but
"this"
I trust it
Time to say "I'm only human"
You think it might be too late
But it's never even been time
Realize now that the ice
is meant to melt
And no one feels sorry
For the good times
Is it time to accept
Shall we smile and rest
Is it meant to be like this
If it's meant to be like this
Where has it gone again?
There was something beautiful
That I can't spot
Anymore
You say "everything's the same"
Guess I must have been shadowboxing
I hope you don't mind if I fade out here
For a little while
The music will not end
Before my pain has stopped
So I'll keep dancing
Keep dancing on my own
I'll keep dancing
All alone
Untill you notice
Something's lost in us
And the music will not end
Before your pain has stopped!
So we'll keep dancing
Keep dancing by ourselves
I'll keep dancing
Keep dancing
You'll keep dancing
Keep dancing
Uncernerned
Untill you notice
Land of dust
I have slept with your lullaby
Dreaming of hope and trust
Oh how meaningless even the thought of it
How absurd the idea of the pain of longing
When the whole world is struggling
We trade our times
We're selling minds
That's the newest trend
To survive
(Will you survive?)
Do you have something to complain?
Do you dare to mention your personal pain?
Don't you see that the whole world's gone insane?
Ain't it nice to suffer a comfortable pain!
Centuries of thoughts
Medecines for any of your moods
From "upset" to "regret"
Everthing is set
To serve you comfortable pain
Do you have something to complain?
Do you dare to mention your personal pain?
Don't you see that the whole world's gone in-
Do you have something to complain?
Do you dare to mention your personal pain?
Don't you see that the whole world's gone in-
Do you have something to complain?
Do you dare to mention your personal pain?
Dont't you see that the whole world's gone insane?
