In Greek mythology, Dorus (Ancient Greek: Δῶρος) is a son of Hellen who was the eponymous founder of the Dorians. Each of Hellen's sons founded a primary tribe of Greece: Aeolus the Aeolians, Dorus the Dorians and Xuthus the Achaeans (from Xuthus's son Achaeus) and Ionians (from Xuthus's adopted son Ion, in truth a son of the god Apollo), aside from his sister Pandora's sons with Zeus. According to the Bibliotheke, "Dorus received the country over against Peloponnese and called the settlers Dorians after himself."
Dorus was killed by Apis when he tried to invade the Peloponnese. According to Karl Kerenyi, the Dorians recalled that three times Heracles had aided their "oldest king", Aigimios, "under whom they had not yet emigrated to the Peleponnesos." Kerenyi's source is the Bibliotheca (II.7.7), who though he is late, was working with ancient materials lost to us.
The eponymous figure of "Dorus" is a back-formation: all tribal groups have myths of an "original', whose name is the eponym of the tribe, even tribal eponyms in Genesis. The oldest are essentially eponyms of extended families, who were worshipped in archaic cults into Roman times. A man's name, Dōrieus, occurs in the Linear B tablets at Pylos, one of the regions invaded and subjected by the Dorians. Whether it had the ethnic meaning of "the Dorian" is unknown. Modern derivations of "Dorians" do not depend on a figure of Dorus: see Name of the Dorians.
Antoon (Tom) Manders was a Dutch artist, comedian and cabaret performer. In later role, he became better known as Dorus.
Although his birth was officially recorded as having happened on October 24, he was actually born on the 23. His father had him registered one day later because, for a child born on Sunday, he would not get a day off work.
Already at a young age, his talent for drawing became apparent. He attended the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Netherlands for 3 years and was active, among other things, as an advertisement painter and designer of posters. Later he also designed decors for theatre and cabaret, regularly for Lou Bandy, Wim Kan and theatre Carré in Amsterdam.
During World War II, Manders had to work in Germany but after half a year, he fled from his job as a painter. Because of Wim Kan, Manders got the idea to start doing cabaret himself, like his older brother Kees.
Starting in 1953, Manders was involved with the design of Carel Kamlag's cafe Saint-Germain-des-Prés at the Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam. Manders performed there himself as a vagabond, a role that would later become famous as Dorus. When VARA offered him an opportunity to perform on television, he had the cafe copied in the studio and started a successful show that would be broadcast for several years.

War in the living room,
We swore we weren't like that.
Once we went down that road,
There was no turning back.
Anger and jealousy
And distorted fact,
Left this pale shadow
of a life we once had.
How could you love and then
Change just like that?
You give your whole heart away
Then take it all back.
This is the end of the line tonight
We can't defend what we know ain't right.
It's over, it's over, it's over,
This love we should let die.
This is the end of the line.
Broken down promises
Linger on in my head.
The scars and the blemishes
that time could not mend.
How can you live losing
All we once had?
Come on now, little girl,
It ain't quite that bad.
This is the end the line Tonight
We can't defend what
we know ain't right
It's over, it's over, it's over
This love we should let die.
This is the end of the line.
Nothing but love gets you
so hypnotized.
Nothing but love brings
them tears to your eyes.
Nothing but love takes
away all your pride.
Nothing but love eats
You away inside.
This is the end of the line Tonight.
We can't defend what we know ain't right.
Two worlds amend, oh ya and
Two worlds collide.
It's over, it's over, it's Over
This love we should let die.
It's been coming for some time.
So goodnight and goodbye.
This is the end
