History Documentary - Forgotten Empires | Ancient Babylon - The Bible's Buried Secrets History Channel "The Bible's Buried Secrets" is the title of a NOVA program that stirred controversy even before its first airing on PBS, on November 18, 2008.[1] According to the program's official website: "The film presents the latest archeological scholarship from the Holy Land to explore the beginnings of modern religion and the origins of the Hebrew Bible, also known as the Old Testament. This archeological detective story tackles some of the biggest questions in biblical studies: Where did the ancient Israelites come from? Who wrote the Bible, when, and why? How did the worship of one God—the foundation of modern Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—emerge?" The Biblical Archaeology Review wrote: "The producers have done a magnificent job summarizing over a century of biblical archaeology and biblical scholarship in two hours. The film strikes a balance between the old-fashioned biblical archaeology approach, which tried to prove the Bible’s historicity, and the extreme skepticism of some minimalists, for whom the Bible contains little factual history."[3] According to Rabbi Wesley Gardenswartz: "Conservative Judaism is fully accepting of the type of scholarship featured in this documentary."[4] Reverend Kenneth Himes says: "For some, the ideas presented may seem novel or surprising, but this is material that is being discussed in the theology courses found at many Catholic universities."[5] The conservative American Family Association has issued an online petition urging Congress to cut off federal funding for PBS.[6] "PBS is knowingly choosing to insult and attack Christianity by airing a program that declares the Bible ‘isn't true and a bunch of stories that never happened,’" signers of the petition are encouraged to declare to members of Congress.[7] Apologetics Press, a young earth creationist organization affiliated with the Churches of Christ, has written a response to this program that is summarised with the concluding paragraph: "... if Christians are to change their minds about the historicity of the events recorded in the Hebrew Bible, a better case, supported by adequate evidence, would have to be made than the one presented in The Bible’s Buried Secrets."[8]

In February of 2002, a Jewish beit din (court) made up of 5 rabbis from the United States and Israel flew to a remote area in Uganda to conduct a formal conversion of over 300 Abayudaya (the Lugandan term for “Jews”), welcoming them into the community of world Jewry. The Abayudaya are a Baganda (Bantu ethnic group) community in eastern Uganda near the town of Mbale who practice Judaism. They are devout in their practice, keeping their version of kashrut, and observing Shabbat. There are several different villages where the Ugandan Jews live. Most of these are recognized by the Reform and Conservative movements of Judaism. However, the villagers of Putti are still seeking an Orthodox conversion and practice strict Rabbinical Judaism.

In this lecture/discussion video from my Spring 2014 Religion in America class at Marist college, we explore the themes discussed in the textbook for the class (America's Religions: From Their Origins to the Twenty-first Century 3rd. ed., by Peter Williams), focusing on Chapter 46, "Traditions and Structures in the American Jewish Community" and Chapter 47, "Jewish Identity and Jewish Culture in 20th Century America" Having discussed Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox Judaism as denominations, we now bring in the smaller groups of Reconstructionist Judaism and Hasidic Judaism, discussing the distinctive beliefs, practices, and emphases of both of these. We then examine some important demographic trends in American Judaism which, if continued, will change the balance between these denominations significantly, as numbers of Reconstructionist,, Reform, and Conservative Jews decline and numbers of Hasidic and other Orthodox Jews increase. Then we turn to Jewish involvement and contributions in American culture in the 20th century, beginning from the problematic situation many Jews found themselves in, where they were effectively barred from participation in many organizations, colleges, and firms. The response was, on the one hand, to create a parallel set of Jewish organizations and industries, and on the other hand, to move into areas of new development, where these barriers did not exist, like the motion picture industry. We finish by discussing Jewish contributions in literature, intellectual life, and politics in America. Since videos discussing religion tend to get a number of polemical, poorly informed, and off-topic comments, I've set comments to require review and approval before they'll be publicly posted. The textbook used for this class can be purchased from Amazon here: http://amzn.to/LS32U4
This sermon was preached on 1-11-15 by Pastor Sam Adams at Independence Baptist Church in Belleview, Florida. This message is Part 7 of a 7-part series of messages on Bible prophecy promoting the thesis that the seven seal judgments of the book of Revelation were NOT fulfilled in history, but are about to be loosed; that the time of great tribulation that Christ spoke will likely commence in just a few short years. No sermon series on Bible prophecy would be complete without a topical exposition of the (soon to be rebuilt) Temple in Jerusalem, the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, and the Millennial Reign of Christ on this earth. In this message we show (1) why the Temple must be rebuilt; that a rebuilt Temple on Mt. Moriah in Jerusalem is not only central to the beliefs and aspirations of both orthodox and conservative Judaism, but also comprises the core foundation upon which all of Luciferian Freemasonry is built, and which drives the globalists' (and the Vatican's) fundamental goal to control Jerusalem. It is this "controversy of Zion" that will ultimately spark World War III and bring all the nations of the earth to battle against Jerusalem (Zechariah 14). This message then explains, (2) when the "marriage supper of the Lamb" occurs, and (3) why it is, that despite the skeptical doubts of the preterists and amillennialists, there MUST be a literal thousand year reign of Christ on this earth. In the end, Christ has NOT surrendered this planet to the devil; He WILL get the victory, He WILL execute judgment and righteousness "in the earth" as Jeremiah and other prophets declare, and the earth WILL be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, as waters cover the sea.

Marcus and David answer open-line questions from the Journey Home audience. David grew up in a Conservative Jewish family in the Bronx. By the age of 15 he had lost his faith. He became involved in the left wing politics of the 1960′s. His first conversion was from liberal to conservative politics and becoming pro-life. For the children, David and his gentile wife began to attend a Baptist church, but David still didn’t believe in God. A pro-life friend suggested that he begin visiting the Blessed Sacrament and to pray the doubter’s prayer. After God’s intervention, David’s heart was converted. He repented accepted Christ and was baptized in the Baptist church. About four weeks later he realized he must become a Catholic. David is the President of the Association of Hebrew Catholics. The reform movement in Judaism has historically started in the 19th century in Germany Over time, it has given rise to a set of Jewish beliefs and practices separate from Orthodox Judaism. The term Reform Judaism is today used for a confessional division within Judaism especially in North America and in the United Kingdom. "Reform Judaism" used as a proper name specifically refers to two denominations, American Reform Judaism and British Reform Judaism. For historical reasons, there is a disparity between British and American terminology. British "Reform Judiasm" is more conservative than American "Reform Judaism"; American "Reform Judaism" approximately corresponds to what in Britain is known as "Liberal Judaism", and British "Reform Judaism" approximately corresponds to what in America is known as "Conservative Judaism" ("conservative" is here used relative to positions within the reform movement, and still less conservative than Orthodox Judaism). "Reconstructionist Judaism" is an offshoot of "Conservative Judaism". A World Union for Progressive Judaism was formed in 1926 with the aim of providing an umbrella organization for the "Reform", "Liberal", "Progressive" and "Reconstructionist" movements, now summarized under the term "Progressive Judaism".
