Britain said on Thursday it had summoned Argentina's ambassador to explain a threat to take legal action against British energy companies drilling for oil in the Falklands, just days after the 33rd anniversary of the Falklands Conflict. The threat comes a week after Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and ambassador Alicia Castro criticized Britain's plan to beef up defences on the islands amid reports of an increased risk of invasion from Argentina. Some British 1,200 troops are based at the British garrison on the Falklands at Mount Pleasant, about 35 miles from the capital, Stanley. Last month, Britain announced it would send two Chinook helicopters to the islands as well as a new air defense missile system, as part of a £180 million upgrade to the islands' defenses. The announcement was made amid reports that Argentina was in talks to lease 12 Sukhoi Su-24 bombers from Russia. Argentina has intensified its claims to the islands in recent years. Britain and Argentina fought a brief war over the islands in 1982 after Argentina invaded the islands. More than 600 Argentine and 225 British servicemen were killed in the conflict. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is an agency of the United States Department of Defense responsible for the development of new technologies for use by the military. DARPA has been responsible for funding the development of many technologies which have had a major effect on the world, including computer networking, as well as NLS, which was both the first hypertext system, and an important precursor to the contemporary ubiquitous graphical user interface. DARPA began as the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) created in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower for the purpose of forming and executing research and development projects to expand the frontiers of technology and science and able to reach far beyond immediate military requirements.[3] The administration was responding to the Soviet launching of Sputnik 1 in 1957, and ARPA's mission was to ensure U.S. military technology be more sophisticated than that of the nation's potential enemies. From DARPA's own introduction:[4] DARPA’s original mission, established in 1958, was to prevent technological surprise like the launch of Sputnik, which signaled that the Soviets had beaten the U.S. into space. The mission statement has evolved over time. Today, DARPA’s mission is still to prevent technological surprise to the US, but also to create technological surprise for our enemies. ARPA was renamed to "DARPA" (for Defense) in March 1972, then renamed "ARPA" in February 1993, and then renamed "DARPA" again in March 1996. DARPA is independent from other more conventional military research and development and reports directly to senior Department of Defense management. DARPA has around 240 personnel (about 140 technical) directly managing a $3 billion budget. These figures are "on average" since DARPA focuses on short-term (two to four year) projects run by small, purpose-built teams. The vast majority of them are trying to make their way to Britain. Their existence in Calais has become so desperate that approximately 80 migrants recently stormed the major port there, attempting to stowaway on a ferry to Britain. The following weekend, with an underlying anger toward the migrants, many locals attended a protest organized by a far-right group called Sauvons Calais. VICE News was at the demonstration, which featured neo-Nazi affiliated speakers, talk of extermination, and even a Nazi salute. We also went to a new migrant camp set up in an old recycling yard, where many people flocked to after police destroyed other camps in July. While the site has become a main source of anger for the far-right, its residents are hoping for a brighter future.

Eisenhower for the purpose of forming and executing research and development projects to expand the frontiers of technology and science and able to reach far beyond immediate military requirements.[3] The administration was responding to the Soviet launching of Sputnik 1 in 1957, and ARPA\'s mission was to ensure U.S. military technology be more sophisticated than that of the nation\'s potential enemies. In Calais, France, there are reportedly more than 1,000 migrants and refugees living in squats and makeshift camps around the city.
